Whilst at UK Tattoo Fest, I had a catch-up with Dean, Big Dino Inc. Now I've known Dean for a long, long time, probably longer than either of us care to remember from back in the days of running around with cones on our heads after too many ciders in Tesco's car park. But what is really, really nice to see is someone who is so genuinely wonderful, someone who is so kind, he's an absolute family man, and he has found a trade and something that he loves. He loves the tattoo industry, and just seeing him thrive and doing so well in the industry is everything. There is something that he says, and it really does hit the nail on the head. He says he takes his tattooing extremely seriously, he doesn't take himself too seriously. And one thing I know you go and sit in his chair, you are gonna end up laughing, but you're also gonna end up feeling like you're in an absolute safe space. He works out of Incredible Tats at Oaks Cross in Stevenage. Okay, if you'd like to introduce yourself. And what tattoos do you specialise in, Dean?

SPEAKER_00

I just have an absolute love for 90s pop culture, bright, colourful, anime, cartoons, comic book, gaming. If it's geeky, I'm down for it.

SPEAKER_01

So if someone came into your chair, what could they expect you to be like?

SPEAKER_00

Um I take my work very seriously, but I don't take myself seriously. We like to get everyone relaxed and comfortable, cozy. Uh in the studio we've got a tele, we've got Netflix, Disney Plus, Crunchyroll for all your anime, we got old school gaming consoles, uh, I've got a shit ton of Lego all over the walls. We're just we're sitting there and we geek out.

SPEAKER_01

So, what made you want to become a tattoo artist?

SPEAKER_00

Um I've always loved the industry. I've got loads of friends in the industry. Uh I came out of a previous job in a fire service and just used it as a coping mechanism, or drawing and painting as a coping mechanism.

SPEAKER_01

So, what is your favourite thing about the alternative um the whole alternative scene? What is your favourite thing about being an M.

SPEAKER_00

Er just I can be myself. So I'm 41 years old, I still watch cartoons, still read comic books, um, dress like I'm a 14-year-old skateboard kid.

SPEAKER_01

No problem.

SPEAKER_00

It's expected.

SPEAKER_01

So I like to know like the people behind like the tiles. So you are Big Dino Inc. And you are the tattoo guy, like it says on your banner. But if you had to say three things that people don't know about you, what would you say they are?

SPEAKER_00

Uh I'll pass my lay. I'm friendlier than I look. You should be. Um, three things. I don't know, I'm a pretty open book, really. There's not much people don't know about me.

SPEAKER_01

Are you afraid of peas? Is there anything you're afraid of?

SPEAKER_00

Frogs.

unknown

Terrible.

SPEAKER_01

Are you why are you afraid of frogs?

SPEAKER_00

So way back when I was growing up, 120 odd years ago in the early 90s. Well we had uh yeah. Uh no such thing as health and safety. We used to play on building sites. I fell down a hole once and it was full of frogs ever since that. Just can't deal with them. From cutting the grass and there's a frog there, I get my I actually pay my son to chase him out of the garden. Can't deal with them.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so if you were to choose one song that would be like the soundtrack of your life, what would that song be? Erm You know now no songs, there is no song that ever existed, and you're not allowed to say the band that's not allowed to be talked about.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we won't talk about it.

SPEAKER_01

There is no last train home.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we definitely don't talk about them anymore. Um to say the refused, and I can't remember the name of the song. New noise.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, thank you so much. Talk to me a big Adenoig. And where can people find you?

SPEAKER_00

Uh Incredible Tats in Oaks Cross in Stevenage.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you. Sorry.
