The Spiritual Weight Of Words
SpeakerHave you ever noticed how the things we say can shape our day, our mood, or even our future? What if I told you that your words carry a spiritual power that can either build you up or hold you back? Today, we're diving into the incredible influence of the words we speak and how aligning them with God's truth can transform your life. Welcome to Awareness Unlocked. I'm Stacy -Ann Carter. This is a space dedicated to awakening souls through spiritual awareness, inspiring transformation, and guiding us to discover our true identity in Christ. Here we explore real stories, biblical truths, and spiritual reflections that remind us of one powerful truth. God is love. My prayer is that every episode draws you closer to God, fills you with hope, and awakens you to the life He created you to live. Today's episode is called "The Power of Your Words". Many people underestimate how powerful their words truly are. We often think words are just sounds we speak, but the Bible teaches that our words carry spiritual influence. Scripture tells us something powerful in Proverbs 18 verse 21. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. That means our words can build, heal, encourage, and bring life. But our words can also create fear, doubt, and limitation.
My Old Patterns With Speech
SpeakerFirst, I want to share a personal part of my journey when it comes to the power of words. For most of my life, I didn't realize that my words carried power. I wasn't rooted in the Word of God the way I should have been, so I didn't fully understand what God required of me in the way that I spoke. Now I was someone who could encourage others. I could speak good things over people, but at the same time, there were moments, especially when I was hurt, where I spoke carelessly and unlovingly. If someone hurt me, I responded out of pain. I justified it by thinking, well, I didn't start it. To me, it felt like a fair reaction, but I didn't realize that God calls us to a higher standard. The Bible says in Matthew 5 verse 44, "but I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you". That wasn't me back then. Instead of speaking love, I spoke from a place of hurt. Instead of praying for people who wronged me, I held on to that pain. And the truth is, that command from Jesus starts with our words. Prayer is spoken. Love is expressed. Grace is communicated. Yet while God was giving me new mercy every single day, I wasn't extending that same mercy to the ones who hurt me. I wasn't reflecting God's nature in the way that I spoke. There was another area in my life where my words were working against me, and I didn't even realize it. During seasons of hardship, I would constantly talk about my problems, but never speak life into them. I would be on the phone with friends, going over the same situations again and again, focusing only on what was wrong, what hurt, and what felt impossible. All I could see was darkness. So that's all I spoke. And because of that, my mindset stayed in a negative place. I didn't realize that the way I was speaking was reinforcing the way I was thinking. I was unknowingly keeping myself in a cycle. If I had spoken life, if I had spoken hope, if I had aligned my words with faith, it could have shifted how I saw the situation and possibly even led me toward a solution. But instead, fear-filled words created more fear. Worry-filled words created more worry. Looking back, I can honestly say, if only I knew then what I know now. Now walking with God, everything has changed. I understand that my words matter, not just to others, but to my own life as well. I've learned that as a child of God, my words should reflect His nature. So, now I make a conscious decision to speak life, even when circumstances don't look good. I choose to speak love even when I feel hurt. And I won't pretend that it's always easy. There are still moments when I feel frustrated. But the difference now is that I don't respond the same way I used to back then. The Holy Spirit has been teaching me to pause, to surrender that moment before I speak. Sometimes that means I don't respond right away. Sometimes, it takes time. But I've learned that taking that time is better than speaking from a place I'll later regret. And what's beautiful is God doesn't shame me in that process. Instead, I can feel His grace. I can feel that He's pleased, that I'm choosing surrender over reaction. Now, in moments where I feel tested, I started to ask myself this one simple question. How would Jesus respond? That question has changed everything for me. Because now I know Him. I know His heart. I know what pleases Him. And that awareness helps me guide my words. I'm not perfect, but I am growing. And I'm so grateful for the transformation the Holy Spirit has already done in me. And at the same time, I know there is still more He is doing. And that's the beauty of walking with God. It's a journey of constant refinement. What I didn't understand back then is that my words were never just words. They were shaping my thoughts, they were influencing my emotions, and they were impacting the direction of my life. And the truth is, this isn't just my story. This is something every single one of us experiences. Whether we realize it or not, whether we're aware of it or not, what we speak is constantly producing something in our lives.
Words Create And Reveal The Heart
SpeakerSo in today's episode, we're going to go deeper into what that really means. We're going to explore what the Word of God says about the power of our words. How they affect our mind, our circumstances, and our spiritual life. And how you can begin to intentionally align your words with God's truth so you can start speaking life. Now let's dive into the truth about the power of our words. The Bible speaks extensively about the power of words, and it starts from the very beginning. God Himself created the world through words. In Genesis 1 verse 3, God said, "Let there be light", and there was light. Think about that. God didn't use His hands, He spoke. That shows us that words carry creative power. As we are made in the image of God, and as children of God, the words we speak matters deeply. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 18 verse 21, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits". That means our words are not empty. They produce something. They either produce life or death. There is no neutral ground. Our words have real consequences, not just emotionally or mentally, but also spiritually. Jesus said in Matthew 12 verse 34, "out of abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks". So if you want to know what's in your heart, start listening to your words. If fear is in your heart, fear will come out. If bitterness is in your heart, bitterness will come out. But when your heart is filled with God's truth, your words begin to reflect faith, peace, and life. And this is why renewing your mind is so important. In Romans 12 verse 2, it says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind". This tells us transformation starts in our minds. But it is revealed and reinforced through your words. What you repeatedly say, you begin to believe, and what you believe, you begin to live. Now here's something we cannot ignore. Our words are powerful, but they can also be dangerous if left unchecked. In James 3 verse 5 through 6, it says, "The tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boast. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark". One word, one sentence, one reaction can create damage that spreads far beyond the moment. But here's the good news. In Proverbs 16 verse 24, it says, "Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and healing to the bones". That means your words have the power to heal people, shift atmospheres, strengthen your mind, and bring peace into situations. Now I want you to think about this for a moment.
Speak Faith Over Your Reality
SpeakerWhat have you been constantly saying about your life? What have you been speaking over your situations? Are your words aligned with fear or are they aligned with faith? Because many times we are asking God to change our situation, but our words are agreeing with the problem. Here's the shift that I recommend you start taking. Instead of saying, "I'll never get through this", begin to say, "God is with me, and He will bring me through this". Instead of saying "nothing is working out", begin to say, "God is working things out, even when I can't see it". This is not about ignoring reality. It's about speaking God's truth over your reality. When you consistently speak God's promises over your life instead of your fears, something begins to shift. Your mindset changes, your emotions begin to align, and your faith begins to grow. And Jesus gives us a very serious reminder in Matthew 12 verse 36 through 37. "Everyone will have to give account for every empty word they have spoken". That means our words matter to God. They are not casual, they are not meaningless, they are spiritually significant. So the question becomes, what are you speaking? Because your words are not just describing your life, they are shaping it.
Journal Prompts For New Language
SpeakerNow instead of just reflecting on your words, I want you to go deeper with God. Here are some journal prompt questions to ask yourself. What is God revealing to me about the way I've been speaking? In what areas of my life is God asking me to trust Him more with my words? What lies have I been agreeing with through my speech? What truth is God inviting me to believe instead? What does God say about a current situation I'm facing right now? What would it look like for my words to fully align with His truth? Because our mind is forgetful, journaling these things can help you go back, review, and see changes. So write down some common words or phrases you use to describe yourself or your circumstances. Reflect on how these words align with God's truth. Consider how you can begin to replace any negative or limiting words with declarations of faith and hope. I'd love to hear what's on your heart. Prayer For Renewed Mind
SpeakerNow let's quiet our hearts and minds as we enter into a moment of meditation and prayer together. Father God, thank you for the power of Your Word and the life it brings. Your scripture reminds us in Proverbs 18 verse 21, "that death and life are in the power of the tongue...". Help us to speak words that build up, heal, and encourage others, words that reflect your truth and love. Renew our minds, as Romans 12 verse 2 teaches us, transforming us by the power of Your Spirit. Guide us to walk in faith, speaking life over ourselves and others. As Psalms 19 verse 14 says, "May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my rock and my redeemer". Fill us with your peace and strength as we continue this journey. In Jesus' name, Amen. It truly means so much to have you with me as we uncover the power behind our words.
Declaration To Speak Life
SpeakerBefore we close, I want to leave you with something powerful you can carry with you throughout this week. This is not just something to listen to. This is something for you to speak because we've learned today that our words carry power. So I want you, wherever you are, if you can, say this out loud with me. And if you can't say it out loud with me right now, come back to this moment later and speak it over your life. Let this be your declaration for the week. "Today I choose to speak life. My words are aligned with God's truth. I declare that only life flows from my tongue. As Your Word says in Proverbs 18 verse 21, I reject every negative, fearful, and limiting word I have spoken over my life. From now on, my words will reflect faith, hope, and truth. I declare that my mind is being renewed daily. According to Philippians 4 verse 8, I choose to focus on whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, everything with excellence and worthy of praise. I speak peace over my life. I speak clarity over my mind. I speak strength over every challenge I face. My words will build and not destroy. They will heal and not harm. They will align with God's will for my life. I choose to speak as a child of God with wisdom, with love, and with authority. From this day forward, my words will produce life in every area of my life, in the powerful mighty name of Jesus Christ. I want you to carry this with you throughout this week. Speak it daily. Because in our next episode, we're going to talk about something that builds directly on this foundation, "Faith". How to truly trust God, walk by faith, and believe even when you can't see. I'm so excited to continue this journey with you.
