When The Battle Ends

This is season 1, episode 9. And today's episode is called "Refined: How the Holy Spirit Transform Us Through the Fire". If you listened to Episode 8, Endurance, we talked about standing firm when the battle rages, about the kind of endurance that keeps you on your feet, even when everything around you is shaken. And if you haven't listened to that one yet, I encourage you to go back and start there. Because this episode picks up right where that one left off. Because here's the truth endurance gets you through the fire. But refinement, refinement is what the fire does inside of you while you're still standing in it. In Malachi 3, verse 3, scripture tells us "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver. He will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver". God doesn't just rescue us from the fire, He uses the fire. He uses it to purify us, to burn off the dross. To shape us into vessels that can carry the anointing, the purpose and the calling He placed on our lives. Today I'm going to share a personal testimony of what refinement looked like in my life - how the Holy Spirit transformed me from the inside out after deliverance. And then we're going to walk through five powerful scriptures that reveal what God is doing when He refines us. So settle in, open your heart, and let the Holy Spirit speak to you through this word. A Testimony After Deliverance

how the process of refinement took place in my life after the fire I endured. A little over a year ago, after my deliverance, I was led into truth. I began to develop a relationship with the Holy Spirit. And I'll be honest with you, I didn't know what that truly meant or what it was supposed to look like. Before my season of spiritual warfare, I didn't even know it was possible to have a personal relationship with Him. But after my awakening, it was the deepest desire of my heart. I somehow knew that He was what I needed to fill the emptiness I had carried for years, an emptiness I had tried to fill with all the wrong things: people, places, habits, sins that kept me separated from God in this cold world. But then, something changed. When I intentionally began to seek God with all my heart, soul, mind, and spirit, I started to sense a shift I couldn't name at the time. It was satisfying in a way nothing else had ever been. Through daily repentance, worship, meditation, fasting, and prayer, I began to sense his presence more and more. I would listen to sermons about hearing the voice of God, and I became consumed with the desire to hear Him speak. I needed guidance. I needed direction. I knew deep in my spirit that the life I was living prior was not the life God intended for me to live. I sensed I had a purpose. And somehow I knew the Holy Spirit was the only one, who could lead me there. So in that season, I had just come through the fire. I had been through the purification. The pain I endured was unlike anything I had ever experienced. But I was not alone through it. And the strength I carried was never my own. It was His. So when I finally regained my weight, my health, when the confusion lifted from my mind, the old desires I once held began to fade. Slowly. Wholeheartedly. All I craved was Him. I remember the humility that came upon me. I felt like a child again. I went from being my own boss, controlling every detail of my life, to surrendering completely to the idea of being led by the Spirit. Not just in one part of my life, but in all areas of my life. I no longer wanted my way, I wanted His. So I first learned patience, waiting to regain my strength, waiting to hear God's voice. And in that chapter, God wasn't saying no. He was saying not yet. There was still more work to be done within me before alignment could take place. And as that season progressed, I started to think differently. I started to speak differently. I didn't recognize who I was becoming, but I loved her. I could feel the old me chipping away, like wood chips falling from a tree being carved by the master's hand. I began to honor the nudges I was receiving. And when the time came, I was ready to take a leap of faith, to detach from what was no longer serving my spiritual growth, not out of hatred for others, but out of love for myself and most importantly, obedience to God. So I moved where I was being led into the unknown, something I once feared, but that fear had been replaced with a quiet excitement. During this time, opposition showed up through familiar faces in multiple ways, all trying to pull me backward. And if I'm honest, I fell for it at least twice. But each time I did, my spirit reminded me, you don't belong there anymore. You've outgrown those things. That's when I knew I was headed in the right direction. Because opposition only stays hidden when you're not yet aligned. And even though I couldn't hear His voice just yet, I still spoke to Him daily, as if He were standing right in front of me. Because scripture tells us, pray without ceasing. [ 1 Thessalonians 5, verse 17 ]. And then came the breakthrough.

Fasting To Hear God’s Voice

For seven days, I felt led to fast and pray with steadfastness, specifically to hear the voice of God. My spirit knew it was time. I didn't just want nudges anymore. I needed to be fully led by the Spirit. - the way a child receives daily guidance from a loving parent. And as I fasted and prayed, I believed that God would grant what I asked for. In Matthew 7, verse 7 to 8, it says, "Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened". I had been asking to be led the entire season. I felt it in my heart, it was time to receive. And at the end of my fast and pray, I did. I received. I remember waking up the next morning, surrendered my day the way I always do. And then I asked the Lord, what should I do today? And for the first time, I heard a clear and quick response, full instructions for my day, all aligned with the things that the Lord had asked me to do. I was so in awe. I was so filled with joy, a joy I cannot even describe. Since that day, I have received daily guidance from the Holy Spirit, who has become my best friend. And though my life hadn't changed outwardly just yet, I knew beyond any doubt that my life had been completely transformed within. The Holy Spirit began to direct my steps. He would tell me where to go, what to do, who to connect with. I had walked through the endurance, the purification, character building, and the removal of obstacles. And now He was leading me out of isolation and into community. He placed me in a new family, a new church, a new season began. And during this time, He was still working in me, cultivating the 9 fruits of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. [ Galatians 5, 22 through 23. ] And in Philippians 1, verse 6 states, "and I am certain that God who began a good work within you will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returned". This means that refinement is a continuous daily act that God continues to perform within us.

Purpose Alignment And First Assignments

Next came my first assignment, which then later on led to many more. However, this was the stage of purpose alignment. And I won't lie to you. It's work. And I say that because my purpose does not entail anything that I had ever done or even thought about doing before. But He equips me for all that He has asked me to do, and it is so worth it. For instance, this podcast was one of the assignments that God gave me. And at first I didn't believe that this is something that I could do. I thought, "me, Lord, speaking"? when I could barely get any words out in my normal daily life. You see, I grew up as a child that stutters and still do at times. But then the Holy Spirit led me to the story of Moses in Exodus 4, verse 10 through 12, where Moses described himself as "slow of speech". And after that, I was like, okay, Lord, I see what you're saying. If you can do what you did for Moses, surely if you're asking me to do this, that means you're going be working with me, working through me, and you're going be helping me. And I originally thought I would have to figure it all out on my own. But that's when the Holy Spirit assured me that I would never do it alone. He would be with me every step of the way. So before I started that first assignment, He taught me something I carry with me to this very day, to invite Him in before I begin anything. Pray for His assistance, His instructions, His corrections, ask for His knowledge and His wisdom, because all the things He was calling me to do were things I had no knowledge of. And here I am being faithful, doing just what was asked of me with His guiding, with His leading, and with His Words. He chose the Podcast name. He chooses what testimony for me to share. This is his podcast, and I am just the vessel He chose to use. And so He has been working through me, and that, that is the best part. So don't be discouraged. If God is calling you to do something that you're clueless about, just know that if He's asking you to do something, if He has placed a call ing on your life - listen and obey and know in your heart He will be with you every step of the way, and that He'll never leave your side. So now what you just heard in that testimony is the process of refinement, and it's not unique to one person, it's a pattern God uses throughout scripture and throughout the lives of his children.

Five Scriptures On The Refiner’s Fire

So let's open up the Word together and look at 5 scriptures that reveal what God is doing when He refines us.

Part one: Malachi 3, verse 2 to 3. "The Refiner's Fire". This scripture states, "but who can endure the day of his coming?

Speaker 1

Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner's fire or a launderer's soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver. He will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver". This is one of the most powerful images in all of Scripture. A silversmith doesn't just throw metal into the fire and walk away. He sits, he watches, he carefully monitors the temperature. Because if the fire is too hot, the silver is destroyed. If it's not hot enough, the impurities remain. Family, God is that silversmith. He is sitting over your life right now as we speak - watching, adjusting, refining. And do you know how a silversmith knows the refining process is complete? When he can see his own reflection in that silver. That's what God did in me, and that's what God is doing in you. He's refining you until He can see himself reflected in your life.

The fire is not punishment, it's preparation. Next we have, Part two: Romans 12 verse 2, "The Renewing of your Mind.

Scripture says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing, and perfect will". You see, refinement starts in the mind. Before God changes your circumstances, He changes your thinking. That's exactly what happened in my testimony. Old desires faded, new thoughts emerged, and a new identity was being formed. The word "transformed" here is the Greek word "metamorphoo". It's where we get the word metamorphosis, like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. You are not just being improved, you are being completely transformed from the inside out. And that transformation begins when you allow the Holy Spirit to renew the way you think. So focus on this particular scripture in the Bible for the renewing of your mind. Philippians 4, verse 8.

It says, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, and if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things". Let that scripture sink in, let it renew your mind, meditate on it. Next we have part three: Isaiah 48, verse 10. Tested in the Furnace. It reads, "See, I have refined you, though not as silver. I have tested you in the furnace of affliction". God is not human that He should lie. God is honest with us here. He doesn't sugarcoat it. The furnace of affliction is real. The pain is real. The stripping is real. But notice what He says "I have refined you".

Not the enemy. Not random chance. God Himself is the one doing the refining. What a joy that is to know.

So your affliction has a purpose.

Speaker 1

Your pain has a destiny. And the God who placed you in the furnace is the same God who will bring you out - purified, strengthened, and ready for what's next.

Let's go to Part four: Philippians 1, verse 6.

He Who Began a Good Work, and I use this in my testimony, and here it is again, because it's so powerful to be reminded of this. It says, "Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus". This is a promise you need to hold on to when the refining process feels endless. When you feel like you're still in the fire and you can't see the finish line, remember this. God doesn't start things He doesn't finish. He began a good work in you, not a random work, not an accidental work, a good work. And He is committed to completing it. Every season of stripping, every moment of waiting, every lesson in the patience. It's all part of His completion process.

He's not done with you yet, and that should give you hope. And last but not least, Part Five: 1st Peter 1, verse 6 through 7. "Faith More Precious Than Gold"

It states, "In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith, of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire, may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed". Peter tells us something extraordinary here. Your faith, the faith that has been tested, tried, and refined, is more valuable than gold. Gold perishes, but your refined faith, it results in praise, glory, and honor.

Trusting God when you can't see, I recommend that you do. I shared a testimony that showed how my faith grew tremendously in a particular chapter of my life this past year, while in isolation with the Lord. Had I not gone through the process of refinement last year, my faith will still be just as stagnant as it was before my supernatural encounter. So just remember this. Every trial you've walked through has been increasing the value of your faith. The enemy meant it for destruction, but God is using it for glory. You are not being destroyed in the fire.

You are being made more valuable than gold.

So take these five parts, take the scriptures that are listed, take it to the Lord, meditate on them, and just remember, remember the process of refining so that when you see and you observe and you're aware of what's going on in your life, whether within you or outside of you, just know that it's all for a purpose.

Five Questions For Reflection

we move into prayer, I want to give you a moment to reflect.

I'm going to ask you five questions. You don't need to answer them out loud.

Speaker

Just let them sit in your spirit. Let the Holy Spirit speak to you through them. Question one: What is God currently burning away in your life? And are you resisting the process or surrendering it? Question two: In what area of your life are you still trying to stay in control instead of letting the Holy Spirit lead? Question three:

Can you identify a desire or habit that has faded since you started walking closer with God?

Speaker

What replaced it? Question four: Is there a not yet from God that you've been treating like a no? What if he's simply preparing you for what's ahead? Question five: If the Holy Spirit asks you to take a leap of faith today, to leave something familiar, and step into the unknown, would you trust Him enough to go? Take a moment, breathe. Let those questions do their work.

A Prayer For Surrender

Now let's pray together. And I want to anchor this prayer in the words of the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah 64, verse 8 says, "Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter. We are all the work of your hand".

Father God, we come before you right now, not as people who have it all figured out, but as clay in the hands of the potter. We acknowledge that you are the one doing the refining. You are the one shaping us. You are the one burning away everything that does not belong. Lord, we surrender our resistance. We surrender our need for control. We surrender the old version of ourselves that we've been holding on to out of comfort or fear. Holy Spirit, we invite you into every area of our lives. Renew our minds. Transform our desires. Give us the patience to wait for your timing and the courage to obey your voice when you speak. We thank you that the fire is not punishment, it is preparation. We thank you that what the enemy meant for our destruction, you are using for our refinement. Like gold and silver purified in the furnace, let our faith come out shining. Let our lives reflect your image. Let our purpose be revealed through the process.

We trust you, Lord. We trust the process.

We trust that He who began a good work in us will be faithful to complete it.
