This week on Two Ginger Gems, James went to Phoenix, took a train to the Grand Canyon with his cousin Lyn, who's joining them in the studio, forgot the sunblock was in his pocket the entire time, and is now essentially a lobster. Kate and Mikki went to see Backrooms and she came out genuinely baffled (she means that as a compliment). There's the Queen Elizabeth fashion exhibition at the King's Gallery that you need to know about, open until April 2027, and apparently the best thing of its kind they've ever done. Legends on Netflix with Steve Coogan is the true story you won't believe actually happened, dinner with chef Nancy Silverton was a delicious experience, and Minnie's Moaning Minute has thoughts on the feedback email situation. Lyn pulls the tarot card. It's Totality. Perfect.

@twogingergems

Coming up on a red hot to ginger gems this week. We have a burnt ginger, burnt cheesecake, and a red hot exhibition. At the palace. Enjoy. Enjoy. From beautiful Hollywood, California. Please welcome to Ginger Gems with Kate and James. Hello, lovely. Hello. I'm laughing already because I'm looking at you. Oh yeah. You're uh you're kind of beaming, babe. I know, I'm just probably not in a good way. Glowing. Glowing, I think, is more than it's more than glowing. Radiating. It's radiating. Yes. Yes, babe. Where have you been? And why did you not wear sample? You're a ginger babe. I know, I know. You'd think I'd know by now. You'd think that after being on this earth for 33 years, you'd think I'd know by no way. So, well, I've been to Phoenix. Oh. I went to flew to Phoenix, and the reason I went is because the young lady over there is my cousin Lynn. Yay! Hello, Lynn. We've got somebody with us today. We have a guest here. We have a guest. Yes. Part of our fan base is here in the uh in the Ginger Gem studio. Yes. Yeah, so my cousin Lynn is over visiting. Beautiful. And uh you may remember my cousin Lynn is the one who doesn't like the posts being left on her. Oh, yeah. You've taken all posts down for your visit. A few times, yeah. So uh we uh decided we were gonna go to Phoenix, drive up to Sedona. Beautiful, and we had a couple of days in Sedona, Sedona, which was very nice, but we took a train out to the Grand Canyon and Lynn had never seen the Grand Canyon before. So we yesterday we took a train out to the Grand Canyon, walked along the rim for three hours, took the train back. This is the three hours, this is what happened. The first thing we did stupidly, not stupidly, the sensibly, the first thing we did when we got there was we bought some sunblock. Yeah, where would it where did the sunblock go? It went in my pocket. And did it ever come out? Off we went. It never came out. We were so uh in awe of the Grand Canyon that off we go, looking at the Grand Canyon, taking photographs and walking along the edge and taking more photos. Well you're not going, it's hot, I'm sweating. And it was warm, but it was not it was a there was a danger right here. Oh, there was a breeze. Oh so off we go and it's light cloud and light breeze, and redhead's absolute nightmare. So off we go, up to walking along, turn around, come back, lovely, great time, nice time, thank you very much. Get back on the train, you know, some block, still in pocket. Oh god, and think, oh, it's starting to sting a bit. Oh no, then you start feeling the heat. Yeah, start feeling the heat on the on the old forehead. I mean, I've got quite a forehead. So yes, I have a five head, somebody say, and um yeah, and then we get back, we get back and we went out for dinner, so I changed my shirt. And when when the shirt came off, it looked like I'd still got a white shirt on. Yes, yes, well, I can see just the arm bit mate. Got a bit of the farmer's tan going on. I've got a complete farmer's tan on. I mean, my neck, I mean it's proper. I mean, Jesus. And it's like, yeah, oh, serious. I'm fascinated by how red you are and how little colour Lynn seems to have gotten. Well, Lynn is a little bit more. I think she was sneaking it in. Sneaking some block on my house and logic. Yeah, so I but you know, this is the difference. This is this is what we have to put up with. This is changes in daylight. You know, you're all okay with that. Yeah, you have to know I think. You should know better. And you saw the Grand Canyon. Saw the Grand Canyon, and it's one of these places that you cannot really describe it. Is no matter what you say, it's going to be like you don't really, you can't really appreciate it until you actually stand there in front of and look at it. And you can say, it's huge, it's massive, it's big, it's deep, it's it's impressive, but until you actually stand there and see it, as Lynn will testify, you don't know what it's like, and you can't appreciate until you're there, and it was at that real kind of it, and even I'd seen it before, but it's still so impressive that I forgot that my sunblock was in my pocket. There you go. It is the number one most impressive thing I've ever seen with my own eyes. Really? Well that number one. Sorry, yeah. Present property excluded. I mean my god. Wasn't even a flicker of anything, wasn't it? He didn't even realise what he was saying. Didn't even realise what he was saying. Karen Dotrice. So that was the other thing is I was going to talk about was the other my friend Karen Dotrice, who's a sweetheart, she's this English woman. She's in fact, she's my favourite English friend. Oh, here we go. My favourite, I can't think of anybody else, uh any of my English female friends over here that uh are any come come even close. Maybe Emma. She is my friend. She was uh as a child, she was a child actor, actress, and she played Jane Banks in the original Mary Poppins. And she is uh she lives in LA, but she also has a house elsewhere, so she's not always in LA. I saw her the other day, the three of us went for lunch. It was lovely, she's adorable, but she was going to Big Bear to see the eaglets. Oh and did you see all there's a lot of press about it where there was the eagle had given birth, the bald eagle had given birth, and then they were and everyone, there was all cameras on it, and they were watching the the nest and they were watching to see if the eggs hatch and all this sort of stuff, and they did. And uh what she was saying was she was going over, you can only get so far, uh so close, obviously, because they're there. But the eagle eaglets, the little babies are in the nest, but you can get to a point where you can see them from binoculars and telescopes and all that sort of shit. So her and her daughter Bella were going to go over there and take a look at that. But one of the nice things she was saying is that they're trying to bring these bald eagles back into that area, and people, rich people, uh bought I can't remember how much she said it was, but they bought all the land around it to preserve it, and they've been buying all this like very expensive land in Big Bear purely so that people can't build on it and put a denis in or something like that. Oh, that's it. Just to try and create this like almost like a habitat or a or a reserve, not a reserve, is it? What do you call them? But like a conservation spot for these eagles. And uh and they were over there, and she said to I texted and said, How was it? And she said it was just like magical that she got to see these little things, but she's really big into like uh animal kind of you know preservation and stuff like that. So that was kind of cute that she'd done that. And it was nice that people are doing nice things. People with money are doing nice things, spending their money on great things, and putting in a yeah, you know, or whatever they're doing. Yeah, you know, parking lab. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, so that was cute. But that was so that was that was the other day before uh when I was still, you know, when you were still looking at uh normal acceptable colour. Yeah. Oh never said I look normal. I just actually go on then. What about you? What have you been up to? Um well we saw backrooms, but let's let's thank our subscribers first. Oh yes, yes, babe. Let's thank our subscribers. Let's ask you. Thank you. So uh as we always do, thank you to everyone that uh that listens to our podcast. And uh like and subscribe if you can, please. It would be we'd appreciate it. But uh, but thanks for listening. Yep, send in your viewers' choice as well. And so we're so we're still we're still babies, really. And people still listening, so that is uh very much appreciated that you listen. Yeah, teenagers. Yeah, at two ginger gems or two ginger gems at gmail.com. Yes, send a comment, send it, make say something. Yeah, let us know that you're there and that you we love that. Uh and send in any requests or whatever. Yeah, perfect. Fantastic. Tell us about your week. Do you know what? This week, um the basically I think did Star Wars come out this week as well. I think so, yeah. So Star Wars came out, the new Star Wars came out, but Backrooms came out and obsession came out, which are two are like indie horror films, and um they both beat Star Wars at the box at the box office. Well, I think this was Star Session's third week, but um Oh, but whatever the money, they've both beat the first week of what Star Wars. But backrooms is over 80 million opening weekend. That's insane, and I've only ever seen believe it or not, Star Wars when we all went to the Hollywood Bowl and so, and that was only a few years ago, really, wasn't it? Yeah, you were a little late to the to the Star Wars stuff. I've been a very late to the Star Wars stuff, but anyway, we went and saw Backrooms last night, right? And it was um, I don't know what to say about it, babe. For me, I didn't know what to say about it. But you'll find you'll think of something. I know I won't, babe, because I was like, what that F, sorry Lynn, is this? Do you know what I mean? I've what is going on here? In a good way, bad way. I mean, I love the actress, babe. What's her name? Renata Renata Reinesva. Oh god, I absolutely adore her. The acting is great, it's all great. I was just like, I don't know. I left. I literally I don't think I've ever left a movie where I've gone, what was it? Yeah, she was like, I don't know what just happened. I don't know what just happened, I don't know what that was about. I'm so confused. But you see, you were better. You you had an idea of something. I mean, I loved it, but it also reminded me You loved it. I was like it reminded me a lot of my own nightmares. Yes. So I said so I could relate to it. Yeah, yeah, no. No, I tell you what it is. I think because I'm one of those people who when I when I I don't know what your dream's like, but when I dream, most boring thing to talk about are your dreams, but when I dream, I have proper dreams. Like it's like I'm in here now. My dreams are like as real as here. Which is my dream. Or or your nightmare. These, but they were what did you say about it after the people behind us were talking on the way out? It's uh it's a lot about the the degradation of memory and perception. Yeah. So that's why everything was so skewed and distorted. Yes. So you kept saying, Well, my dreams are real and realistic, but we remember things differently than they really are. Yeah, babe, I know. And that's what it is. Don't you get confused when you lie? Oh, I thought I'd already done the shopping this week. And it turned out you just dreamt you did. No, no, sometimes sometimes I think I've I did something that I actually did in my dream. No, she does, she does do that. She'll wake up and say, Why did why did you do that? or why did I do this? No, I'd be like, I think it was because it feels because it's I don't know my dreams are weird. They're like and I dreamed by the way. And you know what? I dream and I dream every night. I don't like I could like without failing. I have crazy dreams. Well, they're crazy, but they're not do you know what I mean? It could still happen. It's not like it's not like these this that film. I mean, people are loving this film, Batrooms. I think people should go and see it, but be prepared to be like, what the is going on? Right. Yeah. I think it's you loved it, Mickey, didn't you? I had never seen any of the original YouTube videos from which it spawned. Yes. The um the director, um, what's his name? Kane Parsons started doing these shorts on YouTube uh in high school, and one of them ended up getting like, you know, 70 million views. And so production companies started reaching out to him before that. That's what we need to do. That might guess 70 million, baby. Now how old he is who did this? 21. 21, they gave him all the money to do. And he's and he's but how much was it the first this weekend? You couldn't even get uh you couldn't even, it was so hard to get everywhere. 81 million the first weekend. That's not even 21. 21. And that that's 824's uh highest grossing opening weekend ever. Ever. Anyway, yes, it's worth it to just to walk out and go, well, I've seen many films in my life, but I've never come out of a film going, what the hell was that? It's worth it just for that. That's what I came up with when we watched Cabaret. Cabaret, babe! Anyway, there you go. There you go. What else? Um TV, this is a good one. Lynn, you might know this one already because it's been in England. Um, it's called Legends, and it's a true story. Um, Steve Coogan plays uh the head of customs and exiles, and in like 19, what year was it, babe? Margaret Thatcher years. I can't remember exactly. I think it takes place in 1990. 1990. So right, they end up like that. Right, it is right at the end of the Thatcher Years. Basically, it's what happened in England. There was a real sort of influx of heroin into England. Smack his back. Smack his back, right? Right. And um, she wanted to, you know, she was like steal all Iron Lady, Iron Lady on it all, and she was like, We have to do something about it. So what they did, this sounds so stupid, but it was completely it's completely true. They they advertised inside the Customs and XRs for people who wanted who wanted to do something, you know, um a little different. They didn't say what it was. What were all the signs? Do you have more to offer? Do you have more to offer, right? So all of these people who do yeah, open your case at the airport, were like, oh, I'll have a go at this. So they go in and they basically whittle them down with questions, a bit like Darren Brown, get rid of someone you can't hypnotize, right? But they whittled them down, and in the end they picked four people. So it could have been Lynn, me, you, and Mickey, say, right? They could have picked us for no idea of anything, babe, of customer NXL. That's us for no idea what to do with that. We could have we've been opening suitcases the last ten years, and they basically gave they put them out on the streets. Is that can I say that? They put them on the streets to go undercover, undercover with drug, with the drug lords. It is. Yeah, they basically had to infiltrate. They had to infiltrate the big biggest down, and it was two places, Liverpool. That was they were the one of the heads of it, this lover, Liver Pudley and Bloke, and the other was in London, it was run by the Turkish by Turkish people, so it was a Turkish head of it, and they had to infiltrate it. And it was true, it is so bizarre. It's a series, it's a series, it's called Legends, and it's on Netflix. Just came it came out in England, it's on six episodes. Six episodes, but it's bloody good, all right, and it's a true story the whole time. You're going, What? How is this possible? But you know, whatever they did, they picked the right four people, right? You know, because my god, especially one of them. Yeah, well they yeah, like that other one we talked about. Um yeah, but uh especially one of them who played by Tom Burke. Yeah, oh wow. I mean, he goes really Steve Coogan's good. Steve Coogan and Steve Coogan is great in this as well. He plays like the head bloke and then but it's crazy, and Margaret Thatcher, but babe, they were so close to like you know that how much were how how many millions of uh of heroin was coming in? Two uh two tons. Two tons of heroin were coming into the country, babe, and it was all up to these four to stop them. And it gets so close, babe, that they nearly didn't stop it. And that all what would have all that would have happened with that, all that heroin would have gone all over England. I guess that's episode six. What is where they get to so close to not doing it. You're right, it was. Yes, yes, but you know, it's like oh my god, it's like so how could they have trusted these four people who just like picking us four to do. Yeah, they barely wanted to give budget for them. And they gave them no money, that was the funny thing. They said to me, You're getting no more money than you're getting doing the cases. We haven't got we haven't got any money in this. They won't give us any money to do it, but you've got to do it. And they picked these four people who were like, Yeah, I'll do it. My god, it's brilliant. Legends. Watch it. So, speaking of Her Majesty's service, what about her clothing exhibition? Oh, babe. Queen Queen, Queen Elizabeth. Queen Elizabeth. Yeah. My life in uh my style in life, babe. They've just opened it. Have you heard about this, Lynn? It's supposed to be amazing. They've opened it at the gallery next to Buckingham Palace. The King's Gallery. The King's Gallery, babe, it is all the clothes. Babe, it's no, she has thousands and thousands of clothes. They've put out 400 outfits, starting from her. Well, hold on. James Ashley seems intrigued about this. Well, yeah, and this is fashionable. I mean, yeah. No, well, only because it's Queenie, because uh Queenie was great. I do miss her. Oh, babe. I mean, I like Kingy, but oh Queenie. Yeah, you know, she was the best. Yeah, for sure. But uh, they've got everything, babe, from her baby socks, right, all the way through. So uh the they've got the christening gown that she wore, but it's the same christening gown that uh Queen Victoria wore. Right. And she personally, the Queen, made a list of all the people who wore the gown, so all the children who wore it. It's like the list of the list of everybody who's worn this basically. I think they try and all wear the same christening gown. And then um the coronation uh dress she wore, her wedding dress, everything. And it's like people say you spend hours and hours and hours, and apparently it was so it was only supposed to be open for like a few weeks or something, and now they've extended it to like April 27th. April 18th, 2027. Yeah. I've not even heard a thing about it. Oh, and it's massive. There must be the whole section for the bags, right? Was she famous for like a big thing? No, it's all like all her accessories, and then all the different like when she went to well, you know, where they went on tour, they called it. Yeah, they went to the right. So they went to like when they went to Canada and she's got the dress with all and they'd had embroidered or maple leaves on it, and it just shows all so when you thought she went on tour and she wasn't really. Do you know what I mean? Everything, all her outfits were picked by her, and they have the they have like the outfit and then they have her personal notes on what to change and everything. Yeah, everybody's like crazy, it's so good. And if you go like from in July till September, they also open Buckingham Palace at that time. So you can do the exhibition and do the palace in one go. Fantastic. Yeah. So anybody going to London, anyone in London, or anyone in England? Yes, go and see that because honestly, people are like saying I've not even heard of it. Yeah, and they've had like they had the McQueen one, Dior had that massive one. Everyone is saying this is the best they've ever seen. One night only, one night only. Oh. You're all right, Mickey. Yeah. One night only, babe. That's my second one. You were talking about I think I think you were talking about this the other week. You were talking about um It'll be clear. Uh what's it called? Uh Mozart Storia. You talked about it. Just thinking if Mickey can sing like that, maybe he should be in that 250th concert because it comes struggling to mind. Oh I've already pulled out. Oh well, figured. Yeah. Go on, what's all this about? Remember, you were talking what were you talking about Montza Austeria the other day? You know the one on Highland? We were talking about it a couple of weeks ago. Basically, the the chef there, the owner, uh Nancy Silverton. Right. Had a one night only special like dinner. I'd never really had her food before, but it was how amazing was it, babe? So I just want to give her a plug. Best ribeye I've ever had. If you go to um Mozzo Astoria, I'll give you what your menu should be. It should be the ribeye if you eat meat, right? That ribeye, what's it? Um Porcini rubbed. Porcini rub. There you go, babe. All right. Have that. Have the burnt cheesecake. There's my two recommendations for you. There was other things, there was fish, it was delicious. Smash potatoes. Oh get smashed. Smash potatoes. Was it smash? Smash. Oh, the go in there again. We're in banished. It was basically, basically, it was like little roast potatoes that have been smashed sort of together. So it's not like real mash and it's not like roast potatoes. It was like so good. So now I can tell you if you go to So they burnt the cheesecake and dropped the potatoes, that's what you said. Yeah, smashed, yeah, basically. Okay. Oh it's so good. Go with it. It's so good, babe. Go with it. Go with it. It's so good. And it was called One Night Only. It's a delicious plant in New Year. It was so and that the other chef was there, Curtis uh Curtis Stone Stone. He's Australian, New Zealand. Anyway, I just found out she's got a place in Koreatown that does uh like a Korean fusion pasta. And I can't even imagine that. Could you? I need to go there immediately. That sounds like I've never heard of that before. I've heard of a lot of fusions, but that one, no, I haven't heard about that one. Right. So there you go, babe. Have you got a m have you got a mini? Have you got a mini? I'll I'll yeah. Yeah. I've put believe it or not, babe, look at this. Oh good. I remember my phone, which is a miracle. I honestly I did it. Right, okay. Well, I'm just gonna third time lucky. So I'm just gonna go for some low-hanging fruit here. Okay. Three, two, one, go. Feedback. Right. I do we just did this trip. I rented a car, booked a flight, booked a hotel. I'm inundated with can you let us know how it went? Can you let us know how this was? I've had something like four from Enterprise. How was it when you picked a car up? How was it when you took the car back? How was the car? You know, and it's like, come on. Every time you do anything now, you get you're inundated with all these requests for feedback. Let's know how this went. What was it? How was your experience? I was why? You know, if you if there was a problem, you probably have written it on TripAdvisor by now. You probably would have complained or something like that. But it's just like annoying, again, just one of those annoying things that we have to put up with these days, like passwords and and then you know, it's just one of those things. Why do we have to keep doing all this feedback? And you can't opt out of giving feedback. I'm getting re and until I send something back saying uh this is what I think, even if I wrote back and said it's shit, they'll say, Oh, thank you. Well, now we won't send you any more emails. But do we really need to keep giving feedback for absolutely everything we do? From a restaurant to a plane to a car to a hotel. Time up. Well dambe. Well, I mean, do we have to even ask that question about fair fair pointless, do we? Yeah. Lynn, what do you think? Fair point. Yeah, yeah. Fair point from Lynn. Fair point, for sure. Fair point. Fair point. There you go. Pull a card, babe. You got one for free. And then do you know what? Do you know what? Do you know what? What's that, darling? I've been getting Lynn to pull this card. Oh, get Lynn to pull this card. Okay, come and pull a card, babe. We're gonna see if it's gonna go for like source like Kate or Miser like James. We'll see where this is. Come on, babe. Pull a card. Any card you want. Oh, Lynn's pulling one from the deck. There it is. Oh! You've got a new card, which is beautiful. Look at that. It's called Totality. Totality. I thought it's a I misread it. I thought it said vitality. Totality. Come on now. Totality. Make something up about what this means. No, babe! This is this is to be honest, that's basically what it is, babe. That's what these cards are, you know. You go with your intuition. So it's whatever you feel. Come on, darling. Whatever you feel. Okay, I'll quickly tell you what the card is. It's like um, what are they called by by fly through the art? They're like a trapeze artist. Um, they're all holding on, everybody believes in each other, everybody a support, and they're totally insane. It's a metaphor for two ginger gems. It is, it is totally support each other, totally support each other. But it it's it's believing it not only in yourself but in other people. If if you want it to be somewhere in your life where you could feel that the totality of being in this world where you feel supported, appreciated, this is the card you get. So, babe, you must be very um supported by people. She's very supportive. Yeah, you must have a good safety net, basically. Yes, babe. And you have it here and it's pulled on your card. And this is what this is what we all have to remember. We all have to remember this. And the reason Lynn probably has this is because she's wonderful and kind and uh and supports everybody else. She's supportive, so she gets supportive. Yeah, there you go, babe. So that's a beautiful card that Lynn gauge, and that's what Lynn has given us for the week. Appreciate, be kind, appreciate the people that you're with, appreciate your appreciate your friends, appreciate it, appreciate your family, appreciate, and then you feel you live in a world of totality and you'll have totally everything you need. There you go. All right, who's made the gem cut? Who's made the gem cut? Right. Well, I'm gonna go with um sunblock is very good. I'm told. Umblock definitely shout out to using uh Sun Screw. Use Sunblock when you're when you're a ginger. I'm I'm gonna put in back rooms, even though I was like, Well the hell happened because I think it's something to see, and if definitely and people will get what they will out of it. I'm gonna say the people who who are buying all the land up to kind of protect these little for them. Good for them. Finally, rich people doing something amazing with money. Legends, yes, Steve Coogan. Steve Coogan is always good. He's always good. He's always good. If anybody gets to see Alan, it's Alan Partridge. Yeah, he's been doing playing it in various, various series over the last 25 years at least. Yes. And he's very, very good. And he played Stan Laurel in the Stan and Ollie movie. Yes, he was fantastic in that. And what's Rob's name again? Because I wasn't. Rob Bryden. He and Rob Bryden did it. He needs more series called The Trip. The Trip Drive. And they go to different countries. We didn't talk about it. Definitely Gem Cut. Definitely Gem Cut. There you go. We give him two classic TVs. Queenie. Queenie, definitely. 100%. She's going in there. Nancy Silverton goes in, and also the place in Koreatown, you said. Oh yeah. Yeah. That could go in, isn't it? Yeah, we need to go there. Alright. Yeah, yeah. I think that's it. La Baba. Oh, in the Grand Canyon. And the Grand Canyon. Oh, the Grand Bay. Go and see the Grand Canyon. Breathtaking. If you get a chance to go and see it, you should, because nobody can describe it enough to for you to realise what it's like until you actually get there. Alright, darling. Alright, say goodbye, guys. Well, thanks again for listening. Always a pleasure to see you. Hit the button. Always a pleasure to see you too. My glowing, glowing. You're glowing. I'm actually get I'm getting so much literally feel you. You're like a radiator right next to me. You're absolutely boy. Burning up, yeah. Like a lobster. It's crazy. You said you're going to call me a lobster and you haven't, so I'll send you a little bit of a little bit of a. Oh, I forgot it. Lobster, yes. Yes, you are like a lobster. All right, thank you very much. We shall see you next week. So till then. See you next week. See you next Tuesday. Wake up. We're finished.
