Good evening and welcome back to Praying for Them, your God Fern Spouse. I thank you so much for tuning in. I hope you all had a blessed Sunday. I hope you all got a word from the Lord this morning. And I pray that you all are winding down to end your night. Amen. We will continue into the second chapter of Overcoming Self from the book. And I want to invite God into our space. I want to invite God into our thoughts and our hearing so we can hear what thus says the Lord. I am going to start breaking down the first in the chapter so you can get a better idea of what that chapter is talking about. So we will continue on, and this portion is talking about healing what broke you. Amen. And that thing comes with emotional wounds. I had to overcome, surrendering to God and becoming more selfless through God. Amen. I want to start off by saying this. Not everything you carry is your calling. Some of it is your wound. Amen. Some of us have been holding on to pain, habits, mindsets, and even people, thinking it's just part of who we are. But what if it's not who you are, right? What if it's what hurt you? People can hurt you without you even knowing that they're really doing damage to your spirit and to yourself. Today we're talking about healing, real healing, the kind that requires honesty, humility, and surrender. Amen. Our focus scripture for this chapter is Philippians 2 and 3. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourself. Amen. Because if we're honest, selfishness doesn't always look ugly on the outside. Sometimes it looks like protection. Sometimes it looks like I've been through too much. Sometimes it looks like control, right? But deep down it's rooted in something, and that something often needs to be healed. I had to come to a hard truth about myself. There were areas in my life where I was selfish, right? Not in a loud way, but in an obvious way, but in a subtle way, right? How I thought, how I reacted, and how I guarded myself. And I didn't like it. I didn't feel right in my spirit. So I went to God, not pretending, not to be phony, not to be perfect. I just went to be real. And I said, God, help me be better and not better. Help me to be a giver and not a taker. Help me become who you created me to be, right? Because the truth is I couldn't change on my own. I needed God's help to transform me into a better person, right? You see, I used to think I was fine. You couldn't have told me there was something wrong with me. But life has a way of revealing you to you, right? Whether it's through a relationship, whether it's through disappointments, whether it's through seasons where God starts pulling things out of us, I finally realized something. Some of the ways I acted came from things I never healed from. Pain that I ignored, emotions that I buried, situations I said I was over, but really I wasn't. And it showed up in how I trusted people. It showed up how I reacted emotionally, and I protected myself instead of opening my heart even to my Haskell sweetheart. So I started asking God, show me me. Not the virgin I present to people, but the real me. Let me see my flaws, let me see my patterns, let me see my thoughts, right? And let me tell you, that is one of the hardest prayers you can pray, right? Because when you invite God to change you, everything that's not like Him becomes uncomfortable. Healing isn't pretty, healing isn't easy. It requires admitting when you're wrong, letting go of pride, apologizing to people that you hurt, and asking for forgiveness from people who have hurt you. You might not get it from them, but you can let God know that I forgive people who has hurt me. And that last one is a tough one because sometimes you feel like they don't deserve your forgiveness. But healing isn't about what they deserve, it's about your freedom, right? And here's something people don't always talk about. The moment you decide to change, really change, you will face resistance. The enemy doesn't bother people who stay the same. But when you say, God, change me, use me, grow me, that's when the attacks come. Not to destroy you, but to distract you, to pull you back into old habits, your old way of thinking, and the old versions of yourself. But here's the good news. Every time I was attacked, I started praying harder and harder and harder. Every time I felt weak, God made me stronger. And slowly things started changing in me, around me, and through me, right? My anger started to decrease, my selfishness started to decrease, my love for others started to increase, right? I started becoming more patient, more giving, more aware, more aligned with God, right? I was not perfect, but it was progression. If you want something different, you have to become someone different. If you're praying for a healthy relationship, a God-centered marriage, peace, purpose, you cannot stay the same. You have to prepare for what you're asking for, right? Let me ask you something. And let's be honest in this moment. Think about this. What do you need to confess to God right now? Are you holding on to the pain you haven't healed from? Can you forgive someone who has hurt you? Have you asked God to show you you? Are you trying to grow or just trying to cope? Take a moment to think about what I just said. Because healing starts with honesty. God already knows everything about you, the broken parts, the hidden parts, the parts you don't even understand yet. And he's not asking for perfection, he's asking for surrender. Because you can't heal what you won't reveal. Amen. God wants to encourage us, and if we let go and ask God to change us, God will meet us in our brokenness, he will walk with us through our healing, he will strengthen us in our weak spots, and he will restore what has been damaged within us. But you have to let Him, you have to start running from the process and start trusting in God. Amen. And that is where we're gonna stop today. I know everybody may remember around rugged all Sunday, but I want to run all that to you this evening because I want to give you a little bit more. But we will resume tomorrow in chapter two, and I hope you think about those questions that I did ask you about. Um, what do you need to confess to God about you? Are you holding on to pain you haven't healed from? Can you forgive someone who hurts you? Have you asked God to show you you? Are you trying to grow or just trying to cope? Think about those questions and take them to the Lord in prayer. Amen. Let us go to the Lord in prayer before we close out this session. Honey Father, we want to thank you for your grace, your mercy, and your patience. You've kept us, you shaped us, and you curried us even when we didn't realize it. For the ways we avoided growth, for the parts of us that we refuse to confront. God, help us to heal what we've been hiding from you, oh God. That we've been hiding from ourselves. Because you see all things, so you know the things that we're hiding. Honey Father, heal what we've been currently sounding, Helly Father. Heal our brokenness, oh God, so we can truly let go and let love come in, Heavenly Father. Helly Father, we ask you to help us to be selfless and not selfish. Help us to be a giver and not a taker. Help us to be loving and patient and aligned with you, oh God. Holy Father, break anything in us that is not like you, oh God. Grow us into the person you created us to be from the beginning of time and teach us how to trust you fully, even in the uncomfortable seasons. In Jesus Christ's name we pray. Amen. Amen. Thank you for tuning in. Thank you for listening and following with me through this book of praying for them, your God friends' spouse. Because I'm trying to read some, but then also give us time to think about what we need to do within ourselves to change for the better for our spouses, right? So I want to thank you all for tuning in. I hope you all have a blessed evening. Until tomorrow, God loves you, I love you, and your future spouse loves you as well. Have a good night, and this is Praying for Them, your God friend spouse.
