Welcome back, Free Friends. You're listening to the podcast when the love of the game runs in the family. I'm Max, and I'm here with my dad Mark, and every week we're dying into All Things Foodie. We'll be turning through the biggest moments from the game's just gone. Breaking down the wins, the losses, and everything in between. Plus, we'll look ahead to the weekends and matchups, share my thoughts, predictions, and a bit of banter along the way. Whether you're a diehard supporter or just a little good game and you're in the right place. Let's get into the podcast. Gatheround has ended and what a round it has been.
SPEAKER_01Definitely a good round, wasn't it, Max?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's always great watching Gatheround happen.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Having all the clubs in one state. The crowd gets behind it. I think the number was 470,000 tickets were sold for Gatheround. A record was broken.
SPEAKER_00Correct.
SPEAKER_01Now let's get into Stories and Sirens where we break down the week that was finally the biggest moments and the standout performances of the games and all things we noticed from the games just gone.
SPEAKER_00Adelaide versus Carlton at Adelaide Oval. Not a bad opener for Gatherland. Carlton improved performance.
SPEAKER_01They played four quarters.
SPEAKER_00Finally. Lots of goals in the second quarter for Adelaide. Six goals to two. Rochelley was everywhere in that game.
SPEAKER_01I think he scored four goals in the first quarter just about. He was great that game. And then we look at Collingwood versus Fremantle. Very low-scoring game. But Fremantle got two quick goals with seven minutes to go, and they managed to get over the line.
SPEAKER_00In a row.
SPEAKER_01In a row. Big Tracy took big mark at the end of the game as well to help her win the game. I was quietly impressed with the Dockers.
SPEAKER_00I have been impressed with them at two rounds in a row, and I don't normally get that impressed.
SPEAKER_01No. We'll see how they go for the rest of the season.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because it is only April.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Next game was North Brisbane at Brosser Park. Very close game until three-quarter time. It was a must-win game for Brisbane and they kicked away. She's a Neal both had a lot of disposals.
SPEAKER_01And then we look at Essendon and Melbourne at Adelaide Oval. It was Essendon's first win in 17 games. Big game for them. Their second half against the Bulldogs last week was really impressive, and they carried out over to this week and played four quarters. Robert's got 42 disposals. Really good to see Essendon get a win. Well, it does leave some question marks for Melbourne, but I think the focus is Essendon winning and getting that first win.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Sydney versus Gold Coast at Norwood Oval. Gold Coast failed against another top team. No big marks for Heaney this week, but he got injured.
SPEAKER_01He got injured, yeah, he hurt his hammy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Good game by the Swans to follow on from the last week's good game.
SPEAKER_01Well they beat the Eagles by over 100 points, and now they've beaten Gold Coast by 10 goals. They're looking good, Sidney. Really good.
SPEAKER_00And by the way, it wasn't ten goals.
SPEAKER_01Oh, how much was it?
SPEAKER_00I think it was like 26 points or something.
SPEAKER_01Okay, that sounds a bit better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Hawthorne versus the Bulldogs for Adelaide Oval. Both teams hadn't won a gather round for the last four years. So one team had to win. And Hawthorne got the job done. Pretty disappointing by Bulldogs. They didn't look great against the top team. Gunston played well again, the Wizard played well, Guinnavan played well. Bulldogs, yeah, don't know, they struggled. It was disappointing not to see them get up in that game.
SPEAKER_00Next game was Geelong West Coast sitting all over. Eagles disappointing. But played much better than last week. Throwback jerseys were wearing maybe. That was the reason why they were disappointing.
SPEAKER_01Last time they were those jerseys, they're near the bottom of the ladder. They had Peter Matira, Phil Matira. He's my favourite player, Peter Matira. So maybe wearing those jumpers for one game wasn't good luck.
unknownWho?
SPEAKER_00Danker.
SPEAKER_01I don't think he was playing then. No. But hopefully the Eagles did play well, but well, they played better than last week.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_01And then we look at GWS versus Richmond at Barossa. GWS was the highest score of the round. Cadman and Callahan were everywhere. Good to see GWS back in form and get a win. Richmond's just still struggling, not sure how their season's gonna progress. They're still yet to win a game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Next game is Port Adelaide Saints. Adelaide Oval. We last game of the of Gatheround. Saint Kilda didn't kick a goal kick a goal for a long time in the second half, and Port came close. Wangeling Miller was everywhere. Saints held on. Silvani first goal as a Saint.
SPEAKER_01It was good to see the Saints get over the line then as well. And now they got another Adelaide game this week. And they spent the week in Adelaide.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Alright, now we've got the footy forecast where we're gonna look at the games ahead. Carlton versus Collingwood on Thursday night. The two big AFL rivals come head to head. Carlton were better last week. They didn't win, but they looked better. They got three big ins, one being Wheatering. And now can Collingwood play without Pender Lynn Moore and Hill? They've been out for a while, but I think Carlton, sneaky chance.
SPEAKER_00Next game's Geelong Bulldogs. If Norton doesn't play, Bulldogs have a trickier game. Geelong come into this match, three wins and two losses, and Bulldogs come in for all wins and one loss. That's going to be an exciting match.
SPEAKER_01Then we've got Sydney versus GWS, what they call a battle of the bridge. And Heaney's out with a hamstring. And Cadman may be coming out of the bridge battle with a pelvis injury. Again, Sydney been playing well. Giants haven't beaten a top team. So let's hope it's a close game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Next game is Gold Coast Essendon. Can Essendon take two wins in a row? Who will be a standout player in that match? Gold Coasts need to find some form.
SPEAKER_01Gold Coast should really win this game very comfortably.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they should.
SPEAKER_01We hope to see Essendon put up a good fight. You never you never know. We've got Hawthorne playing Port. Again, a game, Hawthorne should win comfortably. Port Adelaide been in the media this week with Zack Butters.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01What did he say to the umpire?
SPEAKER_00How much do you get paid?
SPEAKER_01Did he actually say that though? The mar the m the microphone didn't hear it. The umpires said what they said.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But we don't actually know if that's what he said. Zach Butters is pretty adamant that he didn't say those words.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so people some people around Australia think he did, but some people think he didn't, so hard to judge. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I think Hawks should hopefully get a win and play well to follow on their good season so far. Yeah. Alright, and then we've got Adelaide and St Kilda after St Kilda spent the week sipping wines in Adelaide. Now, can Adelaide get another win? Or can't Sink St Kilda hold a bit of form? Actually, it might be a close game this one. Yeah. Both teams defend pretty well. They both s have found it hard to win, but both teams need to win to keep their season alive.
SPEAKER_00And they also have um really good forwards up front.
SPEAKER_01They do.
SPEAKER_00Because Adelaide have Fogberty, Walker, Tex, yeah. And Shelley kicks some goals. He can kick some goals.
SPEAKER_01Rolly Thiel Thorpe.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Thiel Thorpe. They've got some good ones, but Saints brought in some new ones from the trades, so, and from the drafts. So it's I think it's gonna be a close one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I could actually be one of the matches of the of the round.
SPEAKER_00North versus Richmond. North should win. Richmond come in at zero wins for five losses. When North come in three wins for two losses.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you should be a close well, let's hope for a good game, and Richmond can find a find some effort, four-quarter effort to see if they can challenge North Melbourne.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Then we've got the D's versus Brisbane. Brisbane should come in to this game confident, their tails are up, and they should be able to make light work of the D's pretty quickly.
SPEAKER_00And that's the last game of the rounds. West Coast Eagles versus the Fremantle Dockers. It's the Western Derby. One team comes in with a win and one comes in with a loss. Dockers should win. But you know what I'd you know what I think would be a big question of that match.
SPEAKER_01What's that, Matt?
SPEAKER_00Who will win the Glen the Glen Denning Allen medal?
SPEAKER_01Who's your prediction for the Glen Ross Glen Denning Allen Ben Allen medal?
SPEAKER_00He has won it a few times. So I think I'm gonna go Sarong.
SPEAKER_01He has. I might say I might say Tracy, the big forward. He might get a hand, might get a a good run at it against Gidney and kick a few goals.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Tracy kicks five. Dockers win by two points.
SPEAKER_00That would hopefully be good. And then Tracy takes it. I want Sorong to get 37 disposals to win the Glen Glending Allen medal. And I want Eagles to win by a point.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. Okay, Max, let's put our tips in for the week. Geelong versus Bulldogs.
SPEAKER_00We missed the first game. That was Carlton Collywood.
SPEAKER_01Uh Carlton Collingwood?
SPEAKER_00I hit Collywood.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna go Carlton. Geelong versus Bulldogs.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna go for Dogs.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna go Bulldogs as well. Sydney GWS?
SPEAKER_00Surely Sydney should win.
SPEAKER_01Sydney. Gold Coast, Essendon.
SPEAKER_00Gold Coast.
SPEAKER_01Gold Coast as well for me. Hawthorne versus Port.
SPEAKER_00Hawks.
SPEAKER_01Hawks for me. Adelaide versus St. Kilda.
SPEAKER_00That one's so tricky. Right now, so I think I'm gonna go Adelaide.
SPEAKER_01I wanna go Adelaide at home as well. North versus Richmond. North North for me. Hawthorne versus Port.
SPEAKER_00We've already done that one, we've already done that one, we've already done that one, we've already done that one, we haven't done that one.
SPEAKER_01Dees versus Brisbane.
SPEAKER_00Um Brisbane.
SPEAKER_01I'll go Brisbane and West Coast versus Fremantle.
SPEAKER_00Even though I say we Brisbane West Coast to win, I'm going to go Fremantle.
SPEAKER_01I'll pick Fremantle, but likewise. I hope we're wrong. Alright, everyone, thanks for listening.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. Alright, thanks for listening, guys. Bye.
