Round 7 of the AFL season is shaping as one of the most pivotal weekends so far, with blockbuster matchups, ladder-defining clashes, and plenty of storylines building across the competition.

Anzac Day delivers one of the biggest games on the calendar, as Essendon and Collingwood renew their traditional rivalry in a high-pressure blockbuster that always brings finals-like intensity.

This round feels like a turning point—contenders can separate themselves, struggling sides risk falling behind, and the ladder could start to take real shape heading deeper into the season.

SPEAKER_00

Welcome back, pretty friends. You're listening to the podcast where the love of the game runs in the family. I'm Max and I'm here with my dad Mark, and every week we're diving into all things pretty. We'll be turning through the biggest moments when the game's just gone. Breaking down the wins, the losses, and everything in between. Plus, we'll look ahead to the weekend's matchups. Check out thoughts, predictions, and a bit of banter along the way. Whether you're a diehard supporter or just a little good game and you're in the right place. Let's get into the podcast. Dad, what an exciting week for kids in WA this weekend. Junior Footy and Ozkick kids kicks off. Speaking of Ozkick, my sister Stella is starting her first Sunday of Ozkick. Stella, say hi. Hello everyone. What are you most excited about for Ozkick? Playing flooding with my friends. Now we're gonna do Stories and Sirens where we break down the week that was diving into the biggest moments, standout performances, and all the things we noticed from the games just gone. Now let's get into round six results. Carlton. 83 to 88. Carlton played a proper four quarters. Byrne had a lot of pressure.

SPEAKER_02

He had that goal, so it shot a goal after the game, didn't he?

SPEAKER_00

So sad that he missed.

SPEAKER_02

He could have could have made the game a draw.

SPEAKER_00

It is only his third game, so we need to put that away.

SPEAKER_02

You know what was really good to see when he had that shot? After he missed, Scott Penderbury ran up to him and gave him a tap on the shoulder and said, Don't worry, buddy, next time. And Dacos had a big game with 39 disposals.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

How good was his last quarter?

SPEAKER_00

It was amazing.

SPEAKER_02

It was amazing. Lots of touches. I think he kicked a goal or two. He got the win for the fives that night.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, next game we got Geelong versus the Western Bulldogs. I thought this game might have been a closer one, but Geelong played really well. And Bulldogs wore lots of injuries. Then they had four injuries by the end of the night.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Sam Darcy's out for the season with an ACL.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And Charlie and Jeremy Cameron got more individual points than the whole Bulldogs team points. That's incredible.

SPEAKER_02

How many goals was that?

SPEAKER_00

That's ten goals, and Bulldogs only got 57 points.

SPEAKER_02

56 points.

SPEAKER_00

56 points.

SPEAKER_02

And he got 61, so big game by Jeremy Cameron.

SPEAKER_00

Sydney GWS, the Sydney Derby. Sydney came out on top. Game delayed for one hour by lightning.

SPEAKER_02

He got delayed by half an hour, and then more lightning came, then it had to go another half an hour. You know what else happened in that game? The SCG has a rule that you can't make loud music after 11 o'clock. You know what time this game finished?

SPEAKER_00

12 30.

SPEAKER_02

11 15. So I had to turn the mic the speakers down a little bit and not play all loud music because it was too late in the night in Sydney.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. That's crazy. Yeah, and Nick Blakey. Well, he was outstanding.

SPEAKER_02

He was good, the lizard.

SPEAKER_00

Next game was Gold Coast Essendon. Essendon were great. They haven't been, they weren't expected to win, and they got the lead by half time. Gold Coast got the win because they needed that one. Good that they won that one. Zach Mara got 34 disposals. Matt Rao got 35 disposals. Big games by both players.

SPEAKER_02

And now we look at Hawks versus the Port Adelaide game. Hawks got to an early lead, I think it's about four or five goals, and Port clawed their way back. They even hit the front in the last quarter.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

The Wizard kicked five goals for the Hawks. And Port had played well two weeks in a row, but just fell short of winning. And the Hawks, well, they just continue on their winning streak.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Next game is Adelaide Saints. A one-point game. Seesawing game. Crows up by four points. Then the Saints were up by games.

SPEAKER_02

Crows are up by four goals.

SPEAKER_00

And then the Saints were up by four goals. Both teams gave up good leads. The Crows held on in an emotional game for the club, throwing their arms around the Dorseman family. Big Tex Walker kicked five goals, and Jack Heatens kicked four.

SPEAKER_02

We've got North Melbourne versus Richmond. Wasn't an overly exciting game, but North Melbourne played well for four quarters and got a dominant win, which they've been looking to try and do all season.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Richmond continue to struggle with injuries as well. Sheaves have got 39 touches, and Curtis, the new big forward at the Kangaroo, has got six goals.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It looked pretty easy for North Melbourne to win. Everybody doubted Richmond were going to win because they haven't won in North Melbourne the top ten. So I don't think it would have been likely for Richmond to win, but they could have, but it's a pretty easy game.

SPEAKER_02

It was just good to see North win by over 10 goals, though. That was the best part of it. And then we've got Melbourne and Brisbane, another close game with Melbourne holding on to win by two points. You could say it was the upset of the round, because I don't think anyone would have picked Melbourne to beat Brisbane this week.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_02

It was Lockie Neil's big 300s as well. So they managed to even win in a milestone game, Melbourne. But what if you watch that game, Melbourne were really quick and exciting all day. Cozzy Pickett was fast. They had three or four guys who kicked three goals and two goals, multiple goal kickers. It's a really exciting game.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But Brisbane now need to dust themselves up and get back to some winning form.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Next game was free man to West Coast.

SPEAKER_02

I don't want to talk about this game really.

SPEAKER_00

No, me neither. Me and him were there and left even before the end of the match.

SPEAKER_02

Tell people we left.

SPEAKER_00

I know.

SPEAKER_02

We were we were hoping they might have come back.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but it looks very unlikely, buddy at the last quarter. Dockers were too strong after the Eagles started well, but just couldn't kick straight Eagles. They had eight points before they kicked their first goal Eagles. That's already a goal and two behinds pretty much.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and points.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Jimby was solid all day and lost his mouth guard during the game, but managed to find it after the game on the on the ground when he went looking for it.

SPEAKER_02

He was running around on the ground once the game was finished looking for his mouth guard.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Doc is forward, Nev Amis, Amos, me, and Dad. And I don't think we're the only ones call him Nev because he never misses.

SPEAKER_02

Did kick four behind. He could have kicked nine goals if he kicked straight Nev.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Jordan Clark, best player on ground, the Glenn Denning and a medal winner. He played actually well. I thought it was gonna be giant.

SPEAKER_02

It was. It was a close vote count at the end.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Footy forecast, where we look ahead to these weekends games for round seven. Thursday. Western Bulldogs versus the Sydney Swans. Four changes for the Bulldogs, maybe more. If he bought it.

SPEAKER_02

The bond is too sore. He apparently didn't train a lot this week. He had his knee heavily strapped, so he may not play.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Heane is out with a sore calf. With the injuries piling up at the kennel, it will be a hard game for them to win against the high flying Swans.

SPEAKER_02

Now we've got the pre-Anzac Day blockbuster at the MCG. First blockbuster at the MCG, Richmond versus Melbourne. Now we're seeing Melbourne play in really good form at the moment, but can Richmond find some of that Anzac spirit and challenge the D's in this Friday night game?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Anzac Day now. Hawthorne Gold Coast at the University of Tasmania Stadium. Hawks are in form, and the Suns need to find form. Hawks play really well in Tassie. But will it be cold?

SPEAKER_02

Normally cold games in Tassie.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

At least it's April, so hopefully it's not too cold.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it gets really cold by winter.

SPEAKER_02

And Gold Coast coming from the hot weather in the Gold Coast.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Gold Coast really need to play well now against the top team.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Arts rivals go head to head next. It's Anzac Day Balkbuster. Essendon are playing much better footy. And Collingwood are finding games to keep games close. This should be a cracker.

SPEAKER_02

Should be a really good game, this one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think it's gaming around. And I remember a few years ago that actually they tied.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

A few years ago.

SPEAKER_02

Historically Anzac Day games are very close games to football.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Also, like such as the Easter Monday game. Anzac Day, Easter Monday, they're all very close. Because they're known as historical ones.

SPEAKER_02

That's right. And then we've got Port versus Geelong and Adelaide. Now Port has played r two really good games, and they'll both you know in both of those games up to their eyeballs. Cats, I don't really know. They're playing good football, but they have only beaten the Eagles and an injury hit Western Bulldogs. It'll be a really good game. Port might be able to sneak a win here, I have to see.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they'll be good. Remantle versus Carlton. Carlton come into this game playing much better football than the last two weeks. They have been in the media again last week. Maybe not for all the right reasons again. Jockets are playing great defensive footy and will make this a slow game. Saints Eagles. Saints play good footy after getting one win and one loss in a row in Adelaide. West Coast come up against a slightly easier opposition this week compared to the previous weeks. Liam Ryan playing against his own old team. That's his first time. I feel like if Eagles win, he's gonna go, he's gonna go and celebrate with the Eagles.

SPEAKER_02

Let's hope he's not flying Ryan this week. We don't want to fly and taking too many marks over the Eagles players.

SPEAKER_00

No, we hope, especially not his best forward friends.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_00

No, he was actually a good Eagles player, so and he was there for a while, so.

SPEAKER_01

He was involved in the pr grand final where we kicked the last goal. He was in that last bit of play.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so he has been there for ages and then sadly got chopped over to St Kilda. Let's hope they play well against each other, and Eagles should be able to put up a good fight.

SPEAKER_02

And then we've got Brisbane versus Adelaide. Both teams really need to win this game to put their stamp on the season. Adelaide have been struggling against top teams, and now Brisbane are coming off a loss. The Brisbane injuries are starting to pile up though. So Adelaide could be in with a chance.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. North Melbourne GWS. This might be North's chance to be the team which everyone though thought would be in the top eight this year. Game in Canberra on Sunday evening. It will be freezing cold there.

SPEAKER_02

It snowed once in Canberra. Don't think it's too early for snow now.

SPEAKER_00

Too early for snow, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Canberra can get slot.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Be really uh North Melbourne could really crack this game over.

SPEAKER_00

And people sort of know, uh if you know around the country, it has only been zero degrees in New Zealand, so around there sort of thing.

SPEAKER_02

But around Canberra, not New Zealand.

SPEAKER_00

I know, but it could get cold around that area.

SPEAKER_02

It could be. Alright, Max, let's put in the tips. Western Bulldogs or Sydney?

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna go Sydney.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna go Sydney as well. Richmond versus Melbourne.

SPEAKER_00

I think Melbourne should get away with that.

SPEAKER_02

Melbourne for me as well. Hawthorne versus Gold Coast.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna go Hawks.

SPEAKER_02

I'll go Hawks too. Essendon versus Collingwood.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, I've been playing well. Um I need to go Essendon.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna go Essenden as well. Port versus Geelong.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna go Geelong.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna go Port. Fremantle versus Carlton.

SPEAKER_00

Fremantle should get away.

SPEAKER_02

Fremantle should win. St Kilda versus Eagles.

SPEAKER_00

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm gonna go Saints.

SPEAKER_02

I'll go Saints too, but like you, I hope I'm wrong also. Brisbane versus Adelaide.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, that's so tricky. I'm gonna go. It's at the gather, so Brisbane can't they stay close. Brisbane upper hand at the at their home game. But they have a few injuries, so Alan's gonna be close. I'm gonna go Brisbane.

SPEAKER_02

I will go Brisbane as well, and then North versus GWS.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna go to Boston.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna go North Melbourne as well. Alright everyone, thanks for listening.

SPEAKER_00

Bye.
