Round 10 of the AFL season is here, and this week’s podcast covers every massive matchup and storyline shaping the competition as we head toward the halfway mark of the year.
We preview the Grand Final rematch between the Brisbane Lions and Geelong Cats at the Gabba, while Sydney takes on Collingwood in a huge Friday night clash at the SCG. Gold Coast hosts Port Adelaide in Darwin, Adelaide faces North Melbourne, and Melbourne meets Hawthorn in one of the biggest tests of the round. Carlton and the Western Bulldogs battle under pressure at Marvel Stadium, while Fremantle travels to face Essendon as the Dockers continue their push toward the top of the ladder.
We also break down St Kilda vs Richmond and West Coast vs GWS, discuss the teams building momentum, the clubs already fighting to save their season, and the players making headlines across the league.

Welcome back to the bottom and pull this thing for the top and one of the gun mouth. And I'm here with my dad mouth and open with the dumb man's both men's border. And we'll be trying to do the biggest monuments from the game's gonna be breaking on the window and everything in between pots. So I'm not gonna get down to along the way. Whether you're a dumb house or pull up, or just always go down in here in the right place. Let's get into a popcorn. Wow, that was a big weekend of footy, wasn't it, Dad?
SPEAKER_00It was. Free man will look the real deal. Brisbane got challenged and won.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And the bottom end of the ladder continue to stay at the bottom end of the ladder. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And this week we're going into Sir Dung Nichols round. We're lucky enough to have the West Coast Eagles versus GWS Giants footy here with us to record this vid this um podcast.
SPEAKER_00And what's Sir Dung Nicholas round, Max? It's the Indigenous round, so it is, and they celebrate the indigenous players that were in our great game.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.

SPEAKER_00So some big names. Yeah. They're an important part of our game, aren't they?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And now we've gone to stories and science. Diving into the week that was looking at the biggest moments, the wins and the losses. Let's go.
SPEAKER_00Okay, first start was Fremantle versus Hawthorne. Hawthorne went in front pretty much the whole night, but the last 15 minutes, the Dockers put their foot down, and they really made stamp their self in the competition. What they've been able to do really well all season is kick three to four goals in a hurry, and they did that in the last 15 minutes. Luke Jackson was good in the middle. Gunston tried to keep the Hawks alive. He kicked five goals.
SPEAKER_02That five goals, that was like in the first half.
SPEAKER_00Correct, you had a sore foot by the end of the game.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But very impressive win by the Dockers there. They're looking good. No wonder the September flights on Perth to Melbourne are selling out fast.
SPEAKER_02Now we've got Brisbane versus Carlton. Brisbane won by eleven. They played really well. They dominated early. But then Carlton heats just kept rising.
SPEAKER_00They came back against Brisbane, didn't they? I think they got within two goals.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But sad news sad news after the game.
SPEAKER_02Michael Voss has resigned from the coaching box, so.
SPEAKER_00Who do you think the next coach of Carlton could be?
SPEAKER_02Well, because he's working, I think Adam Simpson.
SPEAKER_00Well, it could be, maybe. I think Josh Fraser is the interim coach of Carlton for the rest of the season. It'll be interesting to see though who they go after to make it the full-time coach.
SPEAKER_02Simpson left the Eagles because he was doing bad with them. So, like, is he going to do bad again with Carlton or or is are they going to keep Josh Fraser?
SPEAKER_00Or maybe Longmuir, the old um Justin Longmuir from Frio. The old Sydney coach, John Longmeyer, who's in it, maybe. Ken Hinckley, maybe. Nathan Buckley, maybe.
SPEAKER_02Wow, lots of big names.
SPEAKER_00Could they ask me, as the year three, West Coast coach, to apply for the Carlton job?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_00No? Not enough experience?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_00Alright, next game, Western Bulldogs versus Port Adelaide. It was another heartstopper. Another great game. Bontompelli was enormous. Dirty disposals, good defensive effort. He really dragged Bulldogs over the line. Port had their chances though to get to win that game. They just couldn't find a way to get late goals.
SPEAKER_02They just have terrible last quarters, Port. I think terrible last moments.
SPEAKER_00I read the stat during the week. They've lost four games, Port Ablade.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know what the total losing margin of those four games are?
SPEAKER_01What?
SPEAKER_00Eight points.
SPEAKER_01Whoa.
SPEAKER_00So they haven't lost a lot of games by many points at all.
SPEAKER_02No, not at all. Now we've had Sydney North Melbourne. Sydney got over the line by eight points. North pushed hard, but Sydney won out in the end. I remember coming through and looking. It was 62-62.
SPEAKER_00North Melbourne gave Sydney a real scare.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I think if Sydney, if North Melbourne beat some good teams and they can get into the top ten.
SPEAKER_00Well they could get to the top 10 at least.
SPEAKER_02Top 10 at least, but preliminary would be good.
SPEAKER_00That'd be a big jump from where they are now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but a big surprise would be grand final.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, not sure they can make the grand final.
SPEAKER_02But an even bigger surprise is winning the grand final.
SPEAKER_00I don't think they can win the grand final.
SPEAKER_02But it would be a really big surprise if they do.
SPEAKER_00And then we had GWS versus Essendon. Another close game, really. Essendon had their chances to win, but again couldn't close GWS out. Lockheed Whitfield had a cracker. Um, but Essendon just had their chances, but yet couldn't couldn't find a way to win.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Essendon have been playing well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they just can't win, but GWS fans won't really care how that game looked. They just needed the four points.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I've read this stat as well that the highest average mark um disposal count of an Essendon player from the last two weeks is 29.
SPEAKER_00Oh I thought that's not great. Not great, not enough of the ball.
SPEAKER_02Not great, yeah. Now we've got Gold Coast Saints. The Suns continue to keep Darwin and Um and suddenly look very, very dangerous. Darwin in Darwin, Gold Coast just look perfect.
SPEAKER_00Well that's nine in a row now. Gold Coast winning in Darwin.
SPEAKER_02I remember I remember last year they played Hawthorne on Thursday there. It was also Sir John Nichols around.
SPEAKER_00I remember watching that was actually one uh I think the Saints were in the lead for that game, but then Gold Coast had to find a way to get over the top, and it looked like the Saints towards the end of the game just ran out of leagues.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The hot weather must have got to them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And Wangley Miller is out for a couple of weeks too with an injury.
SPEAKER_01Oh big. He didn't like that.
SPEAKER_00Yep. And now we've got Geelong versus Collingwood. Geelong made light work of Collingwood. Sorry about that, Isaac.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Don't know if Collingwood may be getting a bit distracted with Scott Penrubury's big milestone came coming up. He's having a rest this week against Sydney. So his big milestone match comes up against the Eagles. But you know what it brings back? Memories of the 2018 grand final at the MCG.
SPEAKER_02Even at the JOK.
SPEAKER_00Remind me who won that game.
SPEAKER_02The West Eagles!
SPEAKER_00Maybe, just maybe, they could do the same. It's Scott Penderbury's won in a couple of weeks, but we'll look at that game in a couple of weeks, aren't we? Ollie Henry kicked four goals for Geelong, but Collingwood had some more injuries. Darcy Moore's out, Penderbury's out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Don't know where they sit for the rest of the season.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Now I've got Melbourne West Coast. Melbourne got over the line by 32. The Demons handle business professionally. Exactly what good teams should be able to do. Van Ruin, five goals, and looked incredible inside 50. West Coast did play well.
SPEAKER_00A bad first quarter again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know they can't stop playing bad first quarters. I mean, they did have that miracle against North Melbourne and Port Adelaide. Yeah, they wear they wear off the other opposition and then take the lead. That's what they should do against Collingwood, because like Port Adelaide and Collingwood, they're like the same. Same.
SPEAKER_00Maybe we'll be calling a couple of weeks. Let's get through this game first.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Alright. And now the last game was Adelaide versus Richmond. Richmond were there for a half, but Adelaide really made like work of them. Isaac Rankin playing in the midfield, looking really good. He was playing that well that both hamstrings were cramping.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00There's a lot of warming up on the sidelines. But Adelaide just broke the game open, kicking five goals in a row, and that was the end of Richmond. So again, Adelaide did what they needed to do, and Richmond had a couple of injuries, so the 18 injured list now goes to 20.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Could Adam Years be the next one sacked?
SPEAKER_00Maybe. Adamuzo's under a bit of pressure now, is he? So now one coach is gone, Voss. Any more coaches to go mid-year? Maybe it's Adamuzo.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was having a look, and I think after a win, some teams can win, go. So that means like win, then try and keep on winning and get close. Maybe not win every game because they're both in good teams, but they can win some games. Like Richmond could actually win more games. And Patrick, I think you might listen to this. Um Richmond. There are two words I didn't want you to say at school, and that's the tigers beat me. Yeah, it's annoying. It said um Nickelhound as we mentioned at the start of the podcast. The ball, if any of you have seen it, it looks amazing.

SPEAKER_02I don't know if you all know, but on Friday, it's my birthday.

SPEAKER_02Yeah. Let's get into the Thursday night game. We've got Brisbane Geelong, the grand final.
SPEAKER_00Rematch.
SPEAKER_02Rematch. Do you does do you think, Dad, Brisbane will get over the line, like they have, and be three time winners, technically.
SPEAKER_00It's not a grand final, it's a rematch. But two premiership contenders, really. Brisb Geelong looking good, Brisbane are played finding ways to win. Be a good game to kick off Thursday night forty.
SPEAKER_02But it's at the Gabba, so Brisbane could be favourites. Yeah. And Geelong lost it a G last year. So took the Gabba, so yeah, so it should bring Brisbane.
SPEAKER_00Next game, Sydney versus Collingwood. So Collingwood are coming here, really I think, focusing on Pendlebury's milestone game.

SPEAKER_00They've got a lot of fewer injuries, they're not playing well, and Sydney are playing good football, even though they were challenged last week against North Melbourne. Uh just it might be a bit wet in Sydney as well. I think there's a bit of rain coming, so it could be a slug match.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Now we've got Gold Coast ads Gold Coast Port Adelaide again, back in Darwin. Gold Coast should win because they own Darwin. Pretty much. But Port Adelaide.
SPEAKER_00Port Adelaide are playing well, they just can't find a way to win. So it'd be interesting to see how they go in Darwin.
SPEAKER_02Both the teams, Indigenous rounds, jerseys. Definitely last year they looked better. I Port Adelaide's he's gonna get overlined in Gold Coasts. But that's what I think, personally. But yeah, I don't think settling the cool round makes a difference.
SPEAKER_00There we go. Adelaide versus North Melbourne. Could be a really good game this one. North Melbourne are challenging against the top teams, and Adelaide is struggling to beat the top teams. So I think both of these teams are coming in to the game fairly even.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And they're both fighting for spots to stay in touch with the top eight. Can Adelaide score more goals in North Melbourne? Can North Melbourne kick straight? I think it should be a good game of footy.
SPEAKER_02Now we've got Melbourne Hawks at the G. One of the matches of the round. Two teams with final ambitions and contrasting styles. Hawthorne's movement is pretty good.
SPEAKER_00And Melbourne's defensive pressure's been really good, but they've been attacking well as well. So again, Hawthorne injuries, Tom Barrass, hamstring.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Probably Gunston out with that foot injury.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Gunston is big and part, also another big part in the team.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I don't know. Mel Melbourne could upset the Hawks, yeah. But again, be a good game.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Melbourne will come in as the underdog, so correct.
SPEAKER_00Now we've got Carlton versus the Bulldogs at Marvel. Now Carlton get a new coach. You know what the stat is normally, Max? When a club gets a new coach during the season, the first game loss they first game. They'll win their first game. That's normally the stat. The players play with a bit of freedom, new confidence. So can Carlton do that for four quarters against the Bulldogs this week?
SPEAKER_01Then how did that not happen with the Eagles when they got Mini?
SPEAKER_00Well, that was the he wasn't the coach from the start of the year. I'm talking about a new coach during the year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he was the coach from junior year. He started. Yeah, during the year. I'm sure it was junior year.
SPEAKER_00No, no, he got the job at the end of the season and the start of the full season. We had Jared Schofield as a caretaker coach before Mini.

SPEAKER_00So I think it'll be again, West and Bulldogs need a win to keep their finals hope for top four finals hopes alive, but Carlton just don't know what will happen this week.
SPEAKER_02No. Now I've got Essendon Freo at the G. Fremantle has emerged, a genuine contender. But Essendon will see this as a chance to reset its season. They've been playing well.
SPEAKER_00Nine in a row.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Essendon.
SPEAKER_00I hate them right there. Essendon are challenging teams, but just can't again can't find a way to win.
SPEAKER_02Don't look. They're not the greatest team. Like, I don't think they will get it. I think Dockers will get it right now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Fremantle should do what Fremantle expected to do and win this game. And then we got St. Kilda versus the Tigers. St. Kilda coming in with a few injuries, coming back from Darwin. Richmond bottom of the ladder, struggling to play well with more injuries piling up. Like it will just be a battle of battle of the fittest team, I believe. Can't be over it. I can't see it being an overly exciting game, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_02No, not really. Now we've got West Coast GWS, the closer of the first round of Sir Jung Nichols round. I mean, this ball that they're using in that game looks pretty good. I think Giants need a win to stay in the finals conversation. Well, West Coast need to make life. But it's gonna be difficult.
SPEAKER_00West Coast need to make life difficult for teams coming to WA. They need to start winning some games at home.
SPEAKER_02I think West Coast come in favourites.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think Jeder is a favourite, but West Coast, we've we could have done it before. If we play well like we did against North Melbourne and Port for four quarters, we might be able to get a win.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
