Songs of FM
Songs Of FM is a music-first podcast fueled by friendship, nostalgia, and the era when FM radio actually meant something.
Hosted by lifelong friends — including members of the band The Sons — we dive deep into the music that shaped us, especially the glory days of 80s and 90s rock, alternative, pop, and everything in between.
But it doesn’t stop at the songs.
We spiral into 90s movies, random pop culture, and whatever else somehow makes its way into the room.
It’s part music history, part hot takes, part inside-joke energy — like hanging out after rehearsal when nobody wants to leave.
The focus is music.
The conversation? Anything’s fair game.

Welcome in to uh Songs of FM Podcast S1 E fourteen.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_02Fourteen of these episodes. We started way back uh in January, I think was when we started recording these in uh January. January. Snowing. Yeah, well, it was cold. Now it's warm. Uh we uh we decided we'd we'd we'd bag a lot of these to uh to have them ready. We're releasing them every other Tuesday. And uh that really has created something for me that when the episode pops up, I'm surprised with the content because I have forgotten it by now. But uh man, this has been so much fun. This will be our final recorded episode uh of this first inaugural season, and uh then we will do a 15th episode live. We will stream it live, and that will be sometime in August. If uh if you want to look at that date, Ryan, we can give them a while. We anticipate the exact date.
SPEAKER_13The Labor Day, Sunday of Labor Day weekend.
SPEAKER_17Oh, so it's in September.
SPEAKER_13It's in September.
SPEAKER_17Okay, so hey, this will be fun. What's today's date, Ryan? Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_13Today is hey, if you have not done your taxes, you might want to get those in. But if you're hearing me say you have not done your taxes and realize, oh wait, I haven't done my taxes, you're screwed. Yeah, because this is coming out in the end of August. You're four months behind.
SPEAKER_02Uh it is the 15th of April. And uh we have this will be our 14th. Man, this has been such a such a fun thing to do. And we're gonna, you know, kind of write it off in style this time with our first segment today. But as always, we're gonna start with Ryan, and he's gonna write some wrongs. He's had a a little while to uh write some wrongs this time around, so let's see what he's caught, Ryan.
SPEAKER_13Honestly, there wasn't a whole lot of wrongs because the last episode was a lot of opinions.
SPEAKER_11Yeah.
SPEAKER_13We talked about food, we did the food bracket, but in segment one, ultimate ban, Russ claimed, as he has uh a few times this season, and and we've never said anything about it, he's not a musician, he's just a singer. I'd like to take this moment to address that and acknowledge how much that statement pisses me off. Yeah, I may play three instruments, and although um more than one guest has commented I'm one of their favorites, I play them poorly. Uh Russ has an incredible voice and is one of the best harmony singers that I've been around. So much so that two of the guys in our three-piece act that were professional bluegrass musicians, you know, the place that loves harmony, he's become one of the favorite people for both of them to sing with. One of them sings on the stage at the Grand Old Opry and enjoys singing on stage at Libby's with Russ Moore. I appreciate your humbleness, but you're an incredible singer, you're a songwriter, and gosh darn it, people love you. So if you guys like to add anything to that, I appreciate it. Or is that enough?
SPEAKER_17That reminds me of something, though. Yeah, Russ, you are a musician, okay? And it reminds me of something. Uh you may have seen it. There was like a posting of a video of this pop star, female pop star, and she's being interviewed, and the interviewer referenced her as a magician. A musician, and she's like, Oh what? I don't know what she's saying. I ain't no mu I ain't no magician. Like if you took offense to it, didn't understand what a musician was. You're a musician.
SPEAKER_10By gosh, if I in high school, I auditioned for musician of the year, and who did I lose to? A vocalist. So by gosh, a vocalist is a musician. I appreciate it.
SPEAKER_13You know, James, I wish I knew how you felt, but I was voted most musical in my senior class.
SPEAKER_10So I can go and I was most talented, but I lost that competition.
SPEAKER_13I was not most talented. Jason Mullins, who listens to our podcast, was by far more talented than me.
SPEAKER_10Thank you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, Junior we call him. Yeah, he's uh he's a fervent listener to our uh podcast. Uh we appreciate you listening andor watching. Now, Wendy, our our friend Wendy O'Brien, she watches every episode. Wow, she really enjoys it.
SPEAKER_13She asks God bless her to tolerate these faces. She asked me.
SPEAKER_14They say listen, not watch.
SPEAKER_02She asked me, When's the next episode coming out? I'm like, well, uh next Tuesday, or you know, something like that. I used to work with Wendy. Oh yeah? Yeah. And Wendy's awesome.
SPEAKER_13Segment two, I'm hungry, Chris claimed that Taco Bell served a burger from the mid-1960s until the 90s. My research shows this is partially true. It was called the Bell Beefer. Originally the Bell Burger. It was a burger-like sandwich sold at Taco Bell from its 1962 founding until the mid-1990s. It's it featured ground beef, onions, lettuce, and mild sauce on a soft bun, similar to Tex-Mex sloppy joe. So not really a burger. It was more of a sloppy meat. So it was loose meat? It was loose meat. Yeah, it was just a taco meat. So I mean it was loose meat in and out. The Supreme version added cheese and tomatoes. So all versions came with the side of the cheese.
SPEAKER_02It's in Lexington. Here, here. And uh their taco burgers were the bomb and they were loose meat. But then they I guess it was what'd you call it? Tex-Mech Sloppy Joe?
SPEAKER_13Yeah. Man, that you know, I didn't hear that wasn't me. That was from AI Pro.
SPEAKER_02And I don't want to, I don't want this episode to be like the last episode.
SPEAKER_17Tex-Mex Sloppy Joe sounds good. Taco Tico Pressenberg. Oh, where was the speaking of where the subway is downtown? Oh, okay. Which turned into Taco 2's. That's right. They had Papa John's in there too, right? Taco Bell. They don't have a barbecue joint for a while too, like in the mid to late 90s. Yeah, that building's been low.
SPEAKER_13So how long ago was it? Taco Tico?
SPEAKER_17That's had to be like 80s. At least 30 years ago.
SPEAKER_13Yeah.
SPEAKER_17More.
SPEAKER_13Don't say it like that, Rennie.
SPEAKER_17Say it like it was more.
SPEAKER_13I wasn't around. 30 years ago in the 90s. Before James was born.
SPEAKER_02James was still floating around in a ball.
SPEAKER_13Right. So the last wrong in the food bracket uh challenge, Chris claimed dairy chair is closed on Sunday. Um, Russ Ren and I claim that they're open. Uh, the research shows location matters. Prestonsburg is open on Sundays. Pikeville is closed. Prestonsburg dairy chair opens at uh 11 a.m. Sunday for those of you who want to go after church.
SPEAKER_02And Chris is defending.
SPEAKER_13James, would you uh James, would you like to chime in on a place that had such an impact on your life? Speaking of floating around in a ball, car wash. Speaking of floating, yeah, the car wash behind it. That's where you're conceived, James.
SPEAKER_02In Chris's defense, he lives close much closer to Pykeville, so he's he really went upon that, I guess.
SPEAKER_10I'm still going with the story. I was conceived at turn four in a porta potty at Bristol Motor Speedway. Oh, yes, that's it. You do you it was close.
SPEAKER_13It was day three in a car wash. That's what I always used.
SPEAKER_14I mean I mean that's better than uh than uh pump six at at a double quick.
SPEAKER_02Anymore?
SPEAKER_13That's all the wrongs.
SPEAKER_02All right. The final rhymes wrongs. Well, I you know, I guess you'll probably compile something for episode 15 and do it live, but uh that's uh for uh all uh things considered that is the final rhymes wrongs for season one.
SPEAKER_10Uh for each wrong we'll get pie or something. Huh? For each wrong, we'll get pie in the face.
SPEAKER_02Probably gonna have to stock up on the pies then. All right, Ren, who's paying for the final episode?
SPEAKER_17We're having trouble getting out of the food topics. Tonight's episode is brought to you by Wendy's Superbar. At Superbar, you didn't just eat, you zigzagged your way through bad decisions because you know some of the bars you actually did it was made like a zigzag. It was. Yeah. At Super Okay. You started at the garden spot, that's what it was called, you know, to feel responsible. Right. A couple of croutons, maybe one sad piece of broccoli, yeah, and then immediately abandoned that plan and straight over to the pasta pasta where you mix three sauces that were never meant to meet, you know. And somehow it worked. And you finished strong at the Mexican fiesta. Tacos, gritos, chili, all on the same plate. Even touch the spaghetti. Nobody stopped you. Just a tray full of chaos and the confidence of a 10-year-old who just went back for plate number four. Wendy Superbar, it wasn't a meal, it was a journey for $2.99. And just like the superbar, the season of Sons of FM had a little bit of everything. It sure did. It sure did.
SPEAKER_02That was a good one. That was a good one. And man, that that just takes me back to those yellow cups that said biggie sized on it. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Those were the days when when you'd stop there and uh uh at that time weren't all Wendy's, didn't all of them had that little glass covered sun area. Yeah, you know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That our our Wendy's in Pikeville is uh it's now a slim chicken.
SPEAKER_17Hey, you can still experience that at uh Trace Romano's in Paintsville. It's got the window section of the old Wendy's. Oh yeah, wey.
SPEAKER_02Next time we have lunch there, that's where we need to sit just for nostalgia. There every Monday. Every go to Friday. All right. All right, so we're gonna move into segment number one. And this was gonna be fun. I didn't even make any notes on this one because I just wanted it to be, you know, us just reminiscing about season one. We're all going to discuss or make fun of our favorite moments from season one. Uh bring up a topic uh of the season and uh any and all, any and all, anything you want to talk about in this uh in this conversation about uh kind of you know reminiscing on our inaugural season. Anybody want to start? I'm gonna leave it open to anybody who wants to throw something in there.
SPEAKER_10Well, it's definitely gone by. It has about the episode that never made it. Yeah, that's our first episode. Our first recording that what happened? The audio got messed up.
SPEAKER_02Oh, they're like skips and clicks and stuff like that. Yeah. So we we're you know, I said we started recording these in January, but we started in November uh testing everything. Because we wanted to do it right. We wanted, you know, we're semi-right anyway. We're just five dudes from East Kentucky that uh, you know, we've all got uh an entertainer soul. We're all you know in bands and play music, and uh, you know, we just wanted to to put this together and and and talk about the stuff that we love to talk about. And you know, like I said, it's giving it's giving Rennie an an outlet to do things uh with his with the characters and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_13Which those aren't Rennie, though, those are his guests that I've met a lot of famous people.
SPEAKER_02And uh, you know, that's it's it just it's it's absolutely something that's become very close to my heart because uh in recording these we have had a two-week hiatus because of uh uh you know vacation time and uh Easter and stuff like that. And it's made me miss it, and I am tickled to death to be back at it, even though after we record this one, it's gonna be a long hiatus after that. But uh we will be back for season two. But I've uh you know, we we tested all this stuff out to try to get everybody the right equipment to do it, to to get the right connection we need to do it, the the services we may use and things like that, to try to offer you all the best quality thing that we can offer, you know, as just five guys from eastern Kentucky, because none of us are professional at this in any any uh form or fashion.
SPEAKER_17And uh remember that uh time I was dealing with a power outage? And I was cool just hanging around right at the last minute.
SPEAKER_13That was the the court law and order episode.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we had called it, we had actually called it. And we're like, all right, guys, we'll see you. And James was getting ready to log off. It's packing up there like 9:30 at night. And Rennie sends in the in the chat, power's back on.
SPEAKER_17You know, I'm a numbers guy, and I have the AP email that said power back on at 11 p.m. And I did my math and I was like, you know what? That that grace period, it's gonna be on at 9 30.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, and I just said that it'll be on in the sure enough.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, and we were back.
SPEAKER_02We were waiting for booting up, we waited till 9 30, and he's like, it's back. We're like, all right. So, you know, and that's actually the one on their episodes too.
SPEAKER_13So I mean, we went we went pretty late that night.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, it's it's been it's been uh uh uh absolute ball doing this. Um the the characters and every episode, go ahead. Uh the the characters or or all of Rennie's guests are what stand out to me first and foremost because like I said, it's giving him an outlet to to do things he might not have otherwise done, and and he has excelled at it, and it's genuinely. I none of the laughter that you have come that has come from me during any of this has been staged at all. I have laughed my ass off at at things that we've done, and it's been so much fun, you know.
SPEAKER_13So that kind of comes into one of my favorite things about it. It's not really one of the things that we talked about or did, but it's I say it's the unpreparedness, but that's really kind of misleading because we all do our own homework and we come prepared. We have to, that's we don't we don't share it so that those are authentic moments, right? Yeah, and that's been my favorite part. And it even it's even screwed me with James taking Top Gun and Russ taking my guitar solos because we didn't share that information beforehand, but it does allow for those real-time reactions, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And it led to another one of my favorite parts of the of the season. That led to your confession of loving playing with the boys. Oh, yes, what a soundbite, what a soundbite. Uh huh. And that's something that uh Chris may throw together between now and September to uh to kind of the highlights of the season to run them maybe during that uh that live that we're gonna do. That would be fun.
SPEAKER_17Um one more thing on the characters. First of all, yes, I loved every minute of doing that because I don't get an opportunity to do that a lot.
SPEAKER_13So uh but if we're really really pulling back the curtain here, yeah, I mean people need to understand how much Rennie lives those characters.
SPEAKER_17Uh he's a method actor. I mean, these I I watch these movies and I have dreams of you know meeting these people or acting like them and getting away with it. But the Marty one.
SPEAKER_02Oh he was Marty for three days. Three days, Marty McLeod.
SPEAKER_13After he got off, I was like, hey, do we want to jump on and talk about this? And and Rennie responds was, Yeah, well, I'm not available, that's why Marty had to call in.
SPEAKER_17Well, here's the thing. Here's the thing, okay? That was not planned until literally probably 30 minutes before we went on. Yeah. Oh wow. I hadn't even thought about it. I was in my closet and I seen Ryan, I uh I had it hung up and it was had the plastic over it, and I was like, you know what? I don't need to just wear this at Halloween. I need to find other reasons to wear this. Yeah, I was like, I where's a podcast tonight? Yeah, so I got in it and I showed Amanda and she was like, she started cracking up. I was like, I'm really gonna do this, guys. So I went up here and I didn't have time to change back into my normal getup. So I was already in it. So I said, here I am, and I'm gonna stick with it. And it stuck for three days.
SPEAKER_02And that was like you said, it was a Halloween costume because we played a Halloween gig and he was Marty and I was Doc Brown. I bought a Doc Brown costume and that's what we wore, but but you being able to to put that to use here and and you know do the actual character, which you've done very well.
SPEAKER_17Uh you sleep in that vest. Yep, and I went to work and answered the phone's like, hello? Oh, hello.
SPEAKER_02That was that, and then the the pee-wee. Okay, so pulling the curtain back. That's my favorite. Oh, that's my favorite too. And and it's so funny because we had the conversation after that because he never lets us know who his character is going to be, right? Who who the guest is going to be. Never tells us, so we get that genuine visceral reaction. And when it when Pee-Wee popped on the screen and he was doing it, I was my I was just like.
SPEAKER_13No, we go back and watch it. It's like Russ Met Pee Wee.
SPEAKER_02I was I was totally transformed back into a child. And then afterwards, we were talking about it. I was like, dude, where did you get the Pee-Wee costume? He said, It's not a costume. He said, It's pieces of suits that I bought, and you know, I had this red bow tie from performing at the Mac, and this gray, and it was like he designed it to be Pee-Wee. It was perfect.
SPEAKER_17I'm standing in, it wasn't I'm standing in my closet. I'm like, huh. Red bow tie. Oh, there's my gray suit I don't wear anymore. Gray, red.
unknownPee-wee.
SPEAKER_10Did you have to buy the blush or did you borrow Amanda's?
SPEAKER_17It was hot up here, man.
SPEAKER_02And then the story behind that one, he was talking about, you know, I was like, see, your pee-wee impression was so spot on. He was like, I was driving around all day in the car by myself talking like pee-wee. I was like, man, that's so awesome. And that, you know, that leads us to another one of Randy, who was if Pee-wee's 1A, Randy is one B.
SPEAKER_10Randy's the only guest that has appeared twice. Yeah.
SPEAKER_17He definitely must be a regular. See, he's local. The other guys are kind of busy and famous. Randy's just kind of down the road. I don't know if you're active.
SPEAKER_13Randy's more like one that I can I can relate to, and I feel like I really know. Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. I know about 26 Randy's. I mean, it's just And they all go to Bull Creek. That's exactly right. That's where I see him. And and I I we we you know, we done the K-13 thing with uh Straight to Keela Knight, and I took that and uh used a karaoke track, and I wrote a parody song. We gotta do something with that. Yeah, we definitely gotta do something with that. It was about Bull Creek. It's a local uh uh flea market around here for those uninitiated, and there's a little booth there that sells uh homemade uh pork rinds. And that's Randy's favorite food is uh the barbecue pork rinds at Bull Creek, and I wrote a little parody song. Uh it was set to straight to Keelan out about Randy and his pork rinds. So we're we're gonna try to do something with that. Maybe you know, our our our big goal with is maybe even shoot a music video or something like that with it. That would be fun.
SPEAKER_17And again, how this has infiltrated our life. I'm not a pork rind guy, but after we started developing that shtick of pork rinds, I went to Food City and bought barbecue pork rinds because I couldn't go to Bull Creek, and I just started eating them because of this podcast.
SPEAKER_02They're they're but the ones at uh the ones at bar at uh uh Bull Creek, they're different, they're not like your standard pork rind. Oh, I'm sure they're real soft, you know. They're they're super good.
SPEAKER_13It's funny you mentioned that because I was listening to the last episode unedited. Yeah, and you know, the first when Chris starts recording, the first I think on that one for some reason we went a little longer before we actually recorded, and it was just us talking. Yeah, and you were telling us about writing that song in your sleep, and somebody was standing, she was in the room when I was listening to it, and she's like, What is wrong with you all?
SPEAKER_02And that's something I want to your head. That's something I want to to make a point in saying too. Uh our wives have done nothing but support us through this.
SPEAKER_10Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know, that uh with uh with Megan, it's you know, she knows it's it's something, it's it's an outlet for it's an out for outlet for olives. But no, she knows it's an outlet for me. And here lately, you know, I'd let you inside a little bit. I've I've been kind of confined to the house. I had an accident back in November, and it's it's done a little bit of a number on me, but this is something I got I got to do from home with uh, you know, four of my favorite people. And it's been a big deal to me to to to have this outlet, you know, and uh to be able to do it. And Megan has been nothing but supportive and and she listens to every episode. Uh she engages in every episode. We'll listen to it in the car and she'll be, you know, when we're talking about our polls or this or that or or or a band or something like that, she will weigh in on it and I just think it's Totally awesome, you know. If y'all want to throw a little something in on how you women have kind of uh supported you.
SPEAKER_17That's how I have gauged my characters before I released this call. I try on the get up, I get in character, I show Amanda, and the laugh meter tells me, and Pee-wee was definitely lose my breath laughter. I got reaction.
SPEAKER_13So I was like, as that's how I gauge my characters, but really for her, like she has to live with these guys for three or four days after a day.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, okay. So you saying that, were there any characters that didn't that uh kind of failed to peak that laugh meter for her?
SPEAKER_17Well, not really. I kind of worked through it myself first because I kind of have a decent handle on humor, so I think I know what's gonna work. So pretty much the ones you've seen is the ones I've tested out. Okay. As a pilot.
SPEAKER_13So I feel like there's some maybe failures that didn't make it past the rent approval.
SPEAKER_17Uh maybe. I mean, there's some I've met uh there's a couple I've mentioned to you, Russ, yeah that have been just kind of very rough drafts, but I haven't tested out on Amanda. So you're you're probably the first one if I'm really unsure. Yeah. Like, what do you think of this? You know, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. But the all all of our wives and our friends, our friends have really been supportive of this and and watching and and listening to it, you know, like I was mentioning Wendy earlier and and and uh junior. Uh you know, that's that's the people that that uh we get to entertain, you know, kind of on a normal basis, I guess them being our friends and in our orbits. But uh to have that support, that's that's that's great. You know, we're we're having a great time doing this. We're trying to put out the best product that we can. And when you get uh the approval of your peers, especially those peers that you know aren't just you know going, oh yeah, it's great, guys. Awesome, you know, that that you kind of trust their opinion on it. That that really uh that really helps out. And uh when Chris got spotted in Lawrenceburg, whoa. I mean, because here's Ryan and I. We're on the podcast too, but he gets recognized.
SPEAKER_13Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02I thought that was really cool.
SPEAKER_13She said, I was listening to episode or watching episode two today when my power went out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_10So we we've had a lot of support. Uh one of my favorite moments is recording our bits for our intro video. That was funny. And like, if you're listening to this podcast and you have yet to watch it on YouTube, you need to miss out, man. Just go watch it for the intro because Ryan pulls off a miracle. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's a whopping on water kind of thing there.
SPEAKER_13Well, it was funny. My my stepson, he uh he filmed it and he was like, This is stupid. What are you doing? And then when he turned the corner, he started laughing, and then that made me feel good. And that kind of goes back to what Russ was talking about with uh the the wives and the kids. If the kids think something's funny, like I know. Oh wow, yeah. This and I think Russ has mentioned it before with Layla thinking that it's cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then what was it? You we were talking uh yesterday or day before something, Ryan. And you you had mentioned you were recording, we're recording the last episode of the podcast, and Adelaide was like, What?
SPEAKER_13Yeah, yeah, and she was because when Russ and Chris were up, we're eating dinner, we were talking about doing uh uh kids of what what do we call it?
SPEAKER_02The kids of FM, I guess.
SPEAKER_13Kids of FM, and letting all of her kids do a podcast. And it'd be funny because James Kid would kind of be like him, he'd just be sitting there diaper, yeah.
SPEAKER_14You get upset, right?
SPEAKER_13She has remembered that and she's held on to it. She wants to do that podcast.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that would that would be super cool if we could get him to do that. But uh yeah, I mean, we've had so many uh standout moments through this season doing this, it's just been a blast. So any any any other topics or anything anybody wants to bring up before we wrap this segment up?
SPEAKER_14I mean, we could go on all day. We absolutely could. We just haven't got an answer about about the freight wire.
SPEAKER_17Um about the fretwire deck. How did we not bring that up? Thanks, Chris. Where's Steve Johnson?
SPEAKER_13So it looks like I'm still right. That's uh you know what?
SPEAKER_02You know what? Okay, so we're talking about our friends that listen. We've mentioned him twice already, so I'm gonna mention him for a third time. Junior, Jason Mullins, is one of those guitar that's his kind of stuff. He loves Ingve and stuff like that. Let's see what you can find out about Eric Johnson and his the fretwire uh controversy or mystery, whatever you want to call it. I would love to I would I would love for him to weigh in on that and see what he thinks about it. So uh Jason.
SPEAKER_10I'm gonna try to reach out to Eric's tech in this between season one and two.
SPEAKER_13Okay, let's see what you can do. You got I don't know, probably six months, seven months to get it done, James.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, I can get it done.
SPEAKER_13So I mean your reputation's already started the crapper. Insert that sound effect there. What?
SPEAKER_14This one.
SPEAKER_13Yep. Uh I you know, this week was uh K-13 week. It was. And uh we put up a poll, and I don't know if anybody has followed that poll.
SPEAKER_02I I I clicked on it once. Yeah, I clicked on it once. I didn't I haven't seen the update or anything.
SPEAKER_13The big leader is uh Don't Close Your Eyes, Keith Whitley.
SPEAKER_02Really?
SPEAKER_13And the winner. Wow, and I still feel like I can't say it like I'm spoiling it, even though it came out this week. It's out now, and of course it's gonna be out to October or August. But uh George Strait is in third. Wow. Actually, uh behind Don't Close Your Eyes and Conway Twitty, love to lay you down.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and those were all submissions. And John, I seen where John Hicks uh he cued in on it. He's like, hey, what about uh the electric slide, you know? Because he was the one that mentioned that. So yeah, I love seeing these people uh engage with us, and that's uh that's that's one of the funnest things about doing this.
SPEAKER_17Uh I'm overthinker, so I already changed my vote.
SPEAKER_13Well, I noticed that Ren changed his vote, and then when I was going through the votes or going through the poll, I was like, huh, I don't know that it was a love song at all. So now I'm kind of on the fence. I think we might have a season two uh K13 part two.
SPEAKER_17I listened to K-13 today, and it's like listening to it for the first time, and it got me thinking. I was like, hmm, I really like Dustin Hoover's explanation. Yeah, yeah, I see where Hoover uh I'll tell you what. Whichever ones are like the top two or three on the final tally, go to Ryan's jukebox, yeah. Oh, okay, Ramako's jukebox. Okay, and whichever one's on there, that's it.
SPEAKER_13Oh, I thought you were talking about me because I don't think I've I've said anything to anybody but Russia.
SPEAKER_17There's multiple runs.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, but I was out in my barn the other day moving stuff around. Something's covered up.
SPEAKER_05That's right.
SPEAKER_13I pulled the tarp off for a jukebox sitting there. Oh what's on yours then?
SPEAKER_02Is it loaded?
SPEAKER_13There's no K13. I have no clue, it don't work.
SPEAKER_02It was something well, I mean it might not work, but is it loaded? Does it have stuff on it or at least labeled or anything like that?
SPEAKER_13Labels, labels, but it's not they're not like A11, it's like 2212.
SPEAKER_02Okay, but what what he's saying is of those top three songs, any of those code. Yeah, yeah. If any of those top three songs are on that jukebox, then that will be the definitive answer. I'll be right back. Let me go outside.
SPEAKER_17We know K-13's gonna be a tough get, right? The the code, so they're the number.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and that was that we next season we can have a return of K13 episode two.
SPEAKER_14Or an A11.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, A11.
SPEAKER_11A11.
SPEAKER_02Uh all right. That that was fun reminiscing a little bit there, fellas. And they like Rennie said, we could talk about this for for another couple hours at least. But uh, we're gonna move on to segment two. Uh Ryan, what have you got for us there?
SPEAKER_13Well, we're all musicians and have a deep love for music. Uh, obviously, that's what most of this podcast has been. But to me, it doesn't get any better than live music. So this segment's a two-parter. First, we'll talk about the best live show we've ever attended, local or national. Uh, we'll name the act, the venue, the year, and what aspects made it the best. And then second, we'll talk about a show we wish we would wish we would have attended, but didn't, uh, either during our lifetime or before. So we had to do that because that opens it up for James. Right. Ah, yes. Yeah. So we'll call this segment best live show ever.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_13What do you want to start with? I'm looking at James, but he doesn't know I'm looking at it.
SPEAKER_11Cool. Yeah, I'll go first.
SPEAKER_10Uh I do need to look up the year, but I do know the show. So uh Matchbox 20. Shockingly, no. Green Day. Uh you ever seen Green Day Live? I have. Okay. So that's actually my pick. Uh so I got tickets. It was actually I've seen Green Day once before, but it was when they got inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Okay. Uh, I went to that induction ceremony in Cleveland. Uh really? Yeah. That's cool. It was really it was the same year Stevie Ray Vaughn got inducted. Yeah. Uh was he there? I was great to say that. I was like, no, I'm not gonna say it. John Mayer did play on his back. Okay, okay. And Gary Clark Jr. It was really and then Joan Jett got inducted too. It was a really great lineup. Uh but the Green Day tour in 2021, uh, it was called the Hella Mega Tour. Uh Green Day headlined, uh, and then co-headline underneath would be Fallout Boy. Then Weezer, and then there was a band that opened up, and I never even knew their name coming into it. They were called the Interrupters. And they should have been in front of Weezer or after Weezer. Oh man, they killed it. Which and Weezer had this huge stage, uh, and but like their whole gimmick is to be like nerdy, yeah. So like they don't move around a whole lot, so it was weird seeing this huge, almost like an arena rock deaf leopard 80s type of stage, yeah, but then just not utilize it, you know? Yeah, but that's their thing. I get that. Uh, but overall, that show was awesome. What made it the best for me is that I was able to I knew every song Green Day played, except one because it was on the new album they just dropped. Yeah. Uh so I sang every lyric, lost my voice. It was in the energy, the crowd, it was just crazy. Uh it was in Columbus, Ohio at a soccer stadium.
SPEAKER_11Really?
SPEAKER_10Uh yeah. Uh it was it was a it was a great show. And I I mean I've seen quite a few acts, but I mean that one held a special place in my heart because Green Day got me into music most. Uh but uh it was it was wonderful. And that was like that was my wife's first concert.
SPEAKER_02Really?
SPEAKER_10Too. And she it was she loved Fallout Boy. That's she loved Green Day, like so it she had a blast. And we both agreed the interrupters were phenomenal and couldn't believe that they were the opener because they were that good.
SPEAKER_02That's awesome. That's a good one. How about uh somebody that you wish you would have been?
SPEAKER_10Damn Yankees. Really? I guess. Well, I'm it's kind of tied, so I guess I'm it both of these are a super group. Dam Yankees, I would have loved to have seen just because I I think musically they're so good.
SPEAKER_02Well, they're like they were like a super group.
SPEAKER_10They are, and like everything worked so well, it was polished, harmonies were insane, the structure, everything was so good. Um, and it so and so that's the other one, one, and it was tied with a group called, I don't know if you've heard of them, Kings of Chaos. It's a weird super group, it was about 10 years ago. That's not them people that Rennie's been sending us in the noise.
SPEAKER_13This is a rabbit hole. I've yet to watch a video. I I refuse.
SPEAKER_10It's a it's a rabbit hole. Go to YouTube, type in Kings of Chaos, and it's members of big rock bands from 80s era, 70s. Oh, okay. And they just one at a time, a member will come up and play. The big core members is like Steve Stevens is up there. Uh, you've got Duff McKagan, is that how you say from yeah from Guns and Residents? Yeah, yeah. And they they they'll play anything from uh Billy Idol, uh, so they're like a super group cover band. Yeah, and the members of those bands just come in and play. That's cool. Yeah, now we have Nuno Becking Court. Wow.
SPEAKER_13And it sounds like they kind of float in and out, right? It's never a consistent lineup, but uh it it's been uh Steven Tyler has been. Steven Tyler's been in there, Joe. Um Joe Perry. Joe Perry, Brian May. Well, I feel like this is this is giving me some material for writing Ryan's wrongs. Corey Taylor, Slipknot.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, he's been in there.
SPEAKER_13Vernon Reed, Living Color, Lizzie Hill. She's awesome.
SPEAKER_10It's a rabbit hole. Like, go to YouTube and just like it's it's so cool.
SPEAKER_02Have they ever recorded anything?
SPEAKER_10Or they just it's like, you know, obviously all these guys are in big bands, but they took the imagination. Man, I'd love to play with that guy or play play a play a sweet play a guns and roses song, even though I'm not in Guns N Roses with these guys. Yeah, and they just do it. Well, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_13This is it absolutely is a rabbit hole because you start reading the names, and there's a couple that will will shock you. Okay, so I'll give you a few names. I think we already talked about Duff, McKagan, uh, Joe Elliott, Sebastian Bach, Gene Simmons, Billy Duff, um Steven Tyler. Uh I'm trying to get through a couple of the well-known to get to this one. And I'm just gonna go ahead and skip right to it. Billy Ray Cyrus.
SPEAKER_08I didn't know that one.
SPEAKER_05Hey, you you fellas want to play Hackie Breaky Heart with me?
SPEAKER_10Duff McKagan's like, what in the world?
SPEAKER_02Well, that's that that is that is cool. I I didn't know that. That's kind of like uh the Dukes of September. Have you ever heard of them? That's uh that's Michael McDonald, Donald Fagan, and uh Boz Skaggs. They tour together and they'll do Steely Dan stuff, Michael McDonald's stuff, Boz Skaggs stuff. So it's really cool. That's so cool. Yeah. That's that's yours?
SPEAKER_10Those are mine. Sorry, it took a while. Oh, that's all right, Rhino.
SPEAKER_13That's the last episode. We're hanging on to every minute.
SPEAKER_10Right?
SPEAKER_13That's right. Rennie, he's sweating. He is sweating. We'll let him go so he can he can try to cool down and come out.
SPEAKER_17Well, Russ, you might be able to help me with the year.
SPEAKER_02You're going where I'm going, Bub.
SPEAKER_17Chicken Festival.
SPEAKER_02London, Kentucky. Yep. Hot apple pie. Not sure of the year, but I don't even think that even matters because that was so.
SPEAKER_17They just kept interweaving into my life, and there they were, and we were so close to the stage. And Keith Horn is the star of the show there. Uh if you're a musician, just left-handed bass player, chicken picking on the bass, picking on the and the flat top, and and just you know, it's good old country of that time. It was still it seemed like it was 90s sounding, but it was we were in the 2000s and the bro country was coming out. But here was hot apple pie sticking to the 90s country style. Much to be appreciated there. And and then fast uh well, when I was playing with Eddie Barber, he covered a couple of songs, so they're it weaved back into my life. Yeah, I had the C D everywhere go, I'd listen to it front to back. Uh, and then uh some maybe just a few years ago, Josh Shepherd had posted something about Keith Horn, or maybe shared something. Yeah, maybe it was a video complimenting him. And of course I chimed in. Oh, yeah, I'm all about it, Keith Horn. And then Keith Horn sees it because he's tagged in it and shouts out both of us, and that was a cool moment.
SPEAKER_02That's awesome. That's cool. And we were we were literally like five feet from the stage. We were right up there, man.
SPEAKER_13How does 2005 sound?
SPEAKER_02That's about right.
SPEAKER_13That was about right. I agree with it. I'm looking at their tour schedule from 2005, and and it has uh on London Kentucky. It does have London, Kentucky. The World Chick Chicken Festival, September 20.
SPEAKER_11Still out there.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, and what's funny though, you gotta go a couple pages if you Google Hot Apple Pie Chicken Festival. Not much about the band.
SPEAKER_17Oh god. Well, here's a show I wish I attended. I was so close, too. Two hours before start of show. Me and Lexton did a little bit of shopping, me and Amanda. We've got our tickets. We're so excited. I get a text from Tony Mullins. He goes, Man, super bummer, huh? Can't believe they canceled. This is two hours before Foo Fighters are to play at Ruperena. October 1st, 2017. Is that when he broke his leg? It was a um due to unspecified family emergency. And this kind of happened a few times during that year. It was part of their concrete and gold tour. Uh so super disappointed. The show got rescheduled to May 1st, which is a Tuesday. The October date, I was there, it was a Saturday. The May date, I had work obligations, couldn't do it, so I had to end up selling those tickets. And I had a bad run after that. I had tickets to Kings of Leon in Indianapolis, same place where we've seen John Mayer.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_17Um week before they canceled, that's when he had his throat or problems singing, possibly. And then I had tickets to Hazard to see Kings of King's X. The drummer got sick or something. It got canceled. And there was like one or two others. I can't remember the artist, but I know I had just a stretch there of shows I couldn't go to or tried to go to. But the Foo Fighters won really. Taylor Hawkins was still around.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I can see where you'd be disappointed with him, and I would have too. Yeah. Ryan.
SPEAKER_13I was trying to do some research on that. Nothing comes up on why they canceled. I thought maybe they'd leak it out after the city. All I can find is family emergencies. All right, Chris, what do you got?
SPEAKER_14Well, I'm gonna go back to when I met Rennie. What two different times actually River Jam. Where you had one time you had a um a Queen's Rock uh cover band. Basically. You had a decent band named Bullet.
SPEAKER_17Yeah, played some Dave Matthews. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Um you also had a little a little kid that um that did that uh Jason Moraz stuff. Yeah, Will King. Will King. Yeah. And then we had By Pro Station.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_17And also Anderson Road, right? Anderson Road.
SPEAKER_14Oh, Anderson, yes, Anderson Road one time, yes.
SPEAKER_02That was uh Queen Anne's Revenge. Yeah. That's the name of that band.
SPEAKER_14Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. You remember you remember Brad? Brad, right? Yeah, it was Brad. Okay. So wait, so were you guys playing? Well it was our own show. Yeah. It was uh on the stage behind Billy Ray's down in Prestonsburg. Okay. And I met right down on the river. That's why we called it River Jam. We done it twice, dude.
SPEAKER_14Twice, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And uh, you know, Chris, that was shortly after Chris and I met, and uh he done our our sound and stuff, and we played one uh and Bullet, he mentions Bullet because Ryan McCoy, uh our guitar player.
SPEAKER_14Because right after that, me and Russ went down to their practice place uh space to take him the recording. To take the recording and listen to them. We sat there in that room and listened to them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_17Just don't forget to release my parking brake next time, please.
SPEAKER_14I forgot about that.
SPEAKER_16No torque.
SPEAKER_12My bad.
SPEAKER_173,000 RPMs, one mile an hour.
SPEAKER_13Like, man, this thing sucks. I did that one time in a rural truck. When we were out on a looking at a project, I was trying to go down the road in first gear with a parking brake on.
SPEAKER_02Nice.
SPEAKER_13It sounded like it was gonna blow up. So, Chris, what's the one that you wish you would have attended?
SPEAKER_14Actually, there's one recently I wish I attended. I actually had the chance to. My cousin had messaged me at the last second to see if I could go, and I didn't think I could, and I said no. Later on I found out I could have. Uh is to uh go see Crowder in Pikeful.
SPEAKER_02That's a Christian group, right? That's cool.
SPEAKER_13I thought he was gonna say Ba Bailey Zimmerman in Pikeful. No.
SPEAKER_02Well now you kind of almost had the same situation with Blink 182 in Lexington, right? Yeah, toy with getting tickets, but they were like $300.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, for the like the cheapest. I was like, nah, uh, I'd love to go, but uh no. Yeah. Only way I was gonna get in is if I was gonna sneak in.
SPEAKER_02My brother kind of done that. I mean, maybe in in reverse. Snuck in? No, he kind of done it in reverse. Uh him and and uh his current wife, they were dating at the time. And a current wife of his wife. Uh, and and my wife. So it was Jody and Stephanie. Jody's my brother. Stephanie is his wife. And my wife.
SPEAKER_13I knew you were married before. Went to see who was.
SPEAKER_02They went to see Keith Urban and Rupp. And they stayed. What's the hotel that's connected, Rup?
SPEAKER_13Uh, shoot. Hyatt. Hyatt.
SPEAKER_02They had a room in the Hyatt, so you know, they just walked to Rupp and they walked back. Well, uh, they lost Jody. I mean, and this was before, you know, he was my brother's confined to a wheelchair, but that this was before that. Uh, they couldn't find him afterwards, and he had, you know, partaken and gotten, you know, pretty pretty wasted. And uh he found his way into the artist's tunnel and was out hanging with the roadies smoking cigarettes and drinking more alcohol. Uh, and uh they just my my wife and and Stephanie just went on up to the room. He'll find his way there, and I think maybe two or three hours later he found his way there, and he was shirtless and had a uh mysterious pack of cigarettes and uh trans mail. Where have you been? Hanging with Rhodes, man. So I don't know how to pull that one off. All right.
SPEAKER_13All right, Russ, it's you.
SPEAKER_02Uh, you know, I went through this thing, and I there are different levels. It's like an onion to me. Because I covet live music in any and all facets. Whether it's local and live. I mean, Rennie and I done a thing a few years ago. We called it L3, local, live and loud. We wanted to be uh proponents of local music around here, and I love local music. Uh I book for for uh high country. I like to give uh give new bands, new artists opportunities and you know and have uh have good good good music in there. I mean I just love it. That that was fun. You can look that up. That's on I think that's is that on YouTube? I think it's on YouTube. It's on Apple iTunes. Yeah. But uh uh I wanna I want to start at the at the local level. Um went to Dandy's a few years ago. Uh and I don't even remember knowing that he was going to be playing there. But we just went to Dandy's. And Rennie was playing there with uh Jason Goebbel. Oh yeah. And they done uh Don Hanley's uh what was the song, Rennie? Uh Dirty Laundry. And Rennie had all of the yeah, Rennie had all the stuff sampled. Kick 'em when they're up, kick them when they're down, kick them when they're up, kick them all around, you know. No, not that one. Uh he had all that, you know, in his in his pad there, and and I knew that that was uh possible and I'd seen professionals do it. I'd never seen it at the local level, but it didn't surprise me of who I was seeing do it, because Rennie is that that he's just that good of a musician and and incorporates technology stuff. And I was blown away by them doing dirty laundry live there at Dandy's. So that's at the local level. Um professionally, there there are so many. I've seen a lot of concerts. And I this is where I thought you were going there a while ago. Uh we've seen uh John Mayer in uh Noblesville, Indiana. Up there. I think it's called the Clips Center Clipsich, I don't even know how you say that now, center. It's uh outdoor amphitheater type setting, uh kind of like River Bend. And when we went, it was the Verizon, I thought. Verizon. Yeah, Verizon Wireless Center then, yeah. And um it was me and Megan and Randy and Amanda and getting to see John Mayer with uh my wife who was a John Mayer Mayer fan. And with one of my close friends who was such a John Mayer fan. Yeah, because we had done John Mayer trio stuff in bands we were in, and you know, we do an acoustic thing, we do a couple John Mayer songs, just real big John Mayer fans. And I've subsc I've I've since seen him, and it wasn't too too long after that seen it rub, but seeing seeing him in that setting with uh my wife and and with Rennie and of course with Amanda, that was just I don't know, it just kind of made it made it all you know.
SPEAKER_17I mean that that one's up there for me if it's Apple Hot Apple Pies, you know, one A and one B for Hot Apple Pie and John Mayer. And do you remember the opener? Ben Fold's five.
SPEAKER_02Ben Fold's five, yeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_17And apparently he had some fans there a few rows above in front of us. Yeah. They were doing the instead of air guitar, they were just doing the keyboard thing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, yeah. I feel like that needs to make an appearance in season two.
SPEAKER_02That was that was and the hot apple pie con that that the hot apple pie show, because I wasn't they weren't really on my radar, knew they existed, but Rennie was like, let's go watch hot apple pie, they're gonna be there, you know. It's good because he was really into it. And went and well, like I said, we stood five like five foot from the stage, and I was enthralled the whole time. It was such a good show. They put on such a good performance. And the just the musicianship, you know, I even though I don't play an instrument, I can appreciate a good uh a good magician. Because you're a musician. You're a musician. You know, I can I can really appreciate I I there are certain sounds I love to hear. One is uh uh a uh B3 organ. I love that. I love a Rhodes piano, and I love good tone, tasteful, almost vocalizing guitar playing. That's why I like uh Eric Clapton so much and David Gilmore so much because I think they do that outstandingly. Um one that um I didn't get to go to, we we were right at the precipice of getting tickets that we didn't get to see him, and I really wish we would have. Megan and I were going to go see Tom Petty at the uh the the racetrack up in Sparta when they when they had the active NASCAR track up there. Uh we were like just a fraction away from getting tickets to go and seeing that. I would love to have seen Tom Petty. Uh one that Rennie and I were going to go see and got canceled. That's the other one. Yes, that's the other one I was talking about. Train. Train, yes. That was we were on our way to Cincinnati, and I think we got the news at about Lexington, didn't we? We were in Lexington when we got the news they had canceled. And we uh we just took a detour and we went and spent the weekend in Louisville.
SPEAKER_15What did we watch? What did we go watch instead? We went and watched scary movie.
SPEAKER_02Or was that yeah, scary movie up there, wasn't it? Borat was in in Lexington.
SPEAKER_10Uh uh Louisville was Borat. Was Louisville Borat? Oh or is it Don't Mess with the Zohan? Because you've talked about it before.
SPEAKER_02No, the the two that we were involved in that is so that are so memorable is Borat and one of the scary movies. I think it was Scary Movie. Yeah, we were sitting there and they marked they the the the previews were on and they stopped the previews and brought the lights up in the theater. Felt like that was Louisville. And they walked in. It was almost like they were walking in convicts. But it was, I think it was like a they were all younger, so it was kind of like uh I guess youth offenders or something like that. They marched them in there and sit them down with their popcorn and pop stuff like that. We're like, what's going on here?
SPEAKER_13Was this part of their sentence?
SPEAKER_02I get I don't know, but it was so strange. And uh I can remember uh uh this lady behind us at the scary movie, whichever one that was, is a lady behind us. You know, one of them, one of the actors on the screen was acting like Oprah Wumphrey, you know, and that lady behind us said, Now you know that ain't the real Oprah Wamprey. The River Rat. And that's the the River Rat trip. You know, the I think I don't know if I mentioned it on this podcast, but we were in downtown Louisville and I had lived there for for a few years, and there was a mall downtown called the Galleria. And I'd only been there like one time when I lived there, and uh, I said, let's go with the galleria, you know, that's pretty cool. But I think it was in the transitional period where it it it ultimately ended up being Fourth Street Live. And uh we were just trying to find our way there, and there was a a lady, she was a homeless lady, she had her um her buggy there full of her stuff, and you know, she looked like a typical homeless lady, but uh and I had on a Superman hat, had the Superman logo on it, but it was red, white, and blue like the American flag, right? So I I'm like, okay, I don't know how to let me ask this lady how I get there. And I said, ma'am, uh, would you mind to tell me how to get to the galleria? Uh, get away from me, rebel hat. I'm like, what? Rebel hat. And then of course I remember Amanda's reaction, she just like went into pure fear, like, oh my God, let's get away from this woman, you know. I was like, What do you mean, re get away from me, rebel hat? Well, she she was an African American lady. And I guess she thought that my hat was like, you know, the the Confederate flag or something, you know. Get away from me, Rebel Hat. And we're like, okay, sorry about that. But anyways, getting back to the to the shows. That was one we missed that that we didn't get to go to. And also, Megan and I had tickets to see Aerol Smith. We've seen him Megan's seen him like four or five times. I've seen them twice. Um, but we had tickets to go see Aerol Smith, that's her favorite band, and they canceled. That's when Steven Tyler fell off the stage and broke his leg. So that's uh that's my my shows. And of course, anytime I get to go watch my dad play, I gotta say that.
SPEAKER_17So but to finish up your rebel hat, Nanda thought you said river rat. That's right. That's right. She said, that's that's right.
SPEAKER_08She said, Did she call you a why'd she call you a river rat?
SPEAKER_02I said, she said, Rebel hat. Ah. So that's uh that's I guess that leaves you, Rhino.
SPEAKER_13That leaves me. And a little transparency, I don't know if any of you really know, but I've probably been to less than 10 concerts in my entire life. I've just never been a big concert goer, and especially now. Uh yeah, I I went and saw uh Brooks undone uh a few years ago with summer. It was on her bucket list when we first met, and just so happened like that week I heard the tick the concert get announced, and we went and saw them, and it was awesome. It was a great show. Went with a bunch of friends. Next year they come to Louisville. I'm like, hey, I'm gonna go see them again because it's freaking awesome. Tickets were twice as expensive. Yeah, man. I'm kind of like Russ, I love local music. Like, I will plan my trips to eastern Kentucky, uh, try to correlate it with when either the Sons or the Vandals are playing, yeah, so I can go go catch you guys playing because I I love that. And I'll watch my friends out there or local around here. I'll try to catch them when I'm out. So my experience, I I felt like it it was a little egotistical or but it really had a deeper meaning uh for me. And it was a show that I played uh coincidentally in Prestonsburg. And Rennie happened to be there. I don't even know if he remembers it, but I've got a picture that kind of uh talks about why it stands out. So it was the Jenny Wiley Festival in 2024. You remember that, Ren? No, no, so Aaron Tippham was a headliner. You remember that?
SPEAKER_17Oh, wait. Was that a Dempsey and Holly? I think it was a DMC and Hollywood.
SPEAKER_13Okay, so yeah, it was, it was, and then we played in between. We played after you guys in between. So I shared a picture on the screen. If you can see, no, you were we did. You didn't, you didn't, but now you do. So that's a little behind the curtain. Me and Ren and James really live with each other that well. You guys are kind of freezing up on my screen smessing with me. So in the picture, you can you can this was the first time I'd really played back home in probably 25 years. You know, I played at this festival when I was 15 or 16. And you can see the mountains in the background. If you look over here, you see my parents who yeah, I was 14, 15. They haul high or hauled me to Pikeville College to play uh on the mountain jamboree every Saturday night. So they got there uh about 4:30 to get these eats. Right? Hey, there's Randy. So when I'm looking out, and and Paul Paul introduces me as a native. Is Randy there? Right here, this little kid kneeling down. Uh I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I said Randy.
SPEAKER_13Okay. Anyway, so oh Randy, Randy, there's a couple Randy's back here by the funnel cakes, I guarantee you. So anyway, my parents you can see them good second row seats, right? Got there at 4:35 o'clock. Aaron Tippen came on, I think, at 8 15. Uh, we get done, we go backstage, and there's the bus, and we're talking and taking pictures, and my parents come over to the gate and I go over to talk to them, and they're wanting to tell me bye because they're leaving. They were there for four hours to see us, didn't stick around for Aaron Tippen. Wow. So that was my favorite uh favorite live show moment. You could say selfish reasons, but it was it was mainly because I guess the the emotions that came from that, you know, and the the stuff I experienced. Your camera's a little off there, Ryan.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I see a ceiling looking at the ceiling.
SPEAKER_06Oh, there you are. You got Redmar?
SPEAKER_13Yeah. So that was my favorite live live concert moment, uh, even though it wasn't really much of a concert. It was we're three guys just playing in Prestonsburg facing the funnel cake. Shaq. Um and I met Rennie that night. Yeah, he didn't know who I was. I tried, I tried to talk to him. He didn't care. He was like on the bigger and better things.
SPEAKER_17You seem familiar to me. I don't have much to say.
SPEAKER_02Uh small talk, sorry. Were there any concerts that you might have got to go to? You didn't get a chance.
SPEAKER_13Uh well, I lived in Cincinnati for 10 years, so I was near Riverbend. Yeah. And uh I really wish I would have seen Dave Matthews in his heyday.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. That's still something I want to do, but I have reserved it to I want to go with Rennie. Let's go, man. Rennie, Rennie introduced me to them. Other than, you know, I'd heard their their you know, their hits on the radio and stuff, and I liked what I heard, but you know, with with them, it's almost like the Almond Brothers or something like that. They, you know, even though they don't like to be called a jam band, they're it's it's like a it's an experience to to go with that.
SPEAKER_17If you like watching a movie with your wife where you're explaining what's trying to explain what's going on with the movie, that's how I'd be with whoever I took. I'd be like, so this song, they used to do it this way.
SPEAKER_02Now they have this guy playing on it. That's so cool. I would expect nothing less. I would expect nothing less.
SPEAKER_13Well, I mean, I'm just gonna throw this out there. You talked about it's called the Ruff Music Center now in Noblesville, Indiana. Okay. Uh June 27th at 7:30, Dave Matthews band.
SPEAKER_02What day of the week is that? Saturday. Yeah.
SPEAKER_13June 26th sounds like a date that's in my head for some reason.
SPEAKER_02Uh it's the day after the the 25th.
SPEAKER_12That's why.
SPEAKER_10It's probably his anniversary or something. No, no.
SPEAKER_02That'd be really funny if it was, because he did have a summertime wedding.
SPEAKER_13Uh no, it was in May, and Jessica reminded me of a girl I work with because it's the same day as hers. Oh. Uh, she reminded me the other day.
SPEAKER_02I my mine's ingrained because we got married on uh May 24th and our kid was born on May 28th. So wait a second.
SPEAKER_17A girl you worked with reminds you of your anniversary with your wife?
SPEAKER_13She got married. She was so there's three of us that worked together that had the same anniversary.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_13Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Did y'all coordinate that or we didn't?
SPEAKER_13We'll just stop it right there. Got married on the exact same day, same year.
SPEAKER_10Yeah.
SPEAKER_13Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_10Digging a hole.
SPEAKER_14So that's the people that we didn't know at his wedding.
SPEAKER_02Right. The other couple. Hey, come to her. Can you wish your wife a happy belated anniversary? Is that appropriate? All right. Does that that wrap up segment number two?
SPEAKER_13It does.
SPEAKER_02All right. Uh, well, segment number three. This is this has been kind of Renny's bread and butter, too, but uh other than you know, his his uh his guests will call them. Uh he has been the game show guy. He comes up with all the games. He does our run-of-show for every episode. Rennie puts in the work. He he he you know gives us our what I like to call our show schematic of what we're gonna do each show. And uh he releases it a few days beforehand, and we kind of just we just go by that. It's no script, it's just an outline of hey, this is what we're doing at this time at this time of the show. And uh, we're gonna jump to three, and Ren, I'll let you take it away. I know James is up, but here go to you.
SPEAKER_17Hey, fun and games, funning games with Ren and James. Funning games around be surprised. Can someone stoop? Oh, Russ. We don't know. Stick around, you might find out. Funning games, funning games. Come play with us on funning games.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that is season number two. We need to we need to we need to make that a real funning games with Ren and James. There you go. Yep, we need to do that for season two.
SPEAKER_17So, and finally, I don't have to worry about letting anybody through the door so I can help maybe participate here and uh some streams.
SPEAKER_10Oh god, might be the last time of doing guess the synth of season one, depending on what we plan to do for the live show. Yeah, but it's bittersweet, and I've been struggling to find sense.
SPEAKER_02But you know, okay, here for free for future reference. Uh even if you were to play a guitar heavy song, uh, that would be more challenging to hear it on the synth. Oh, yeah. Yeah, melodies. We can do that. You'll have to stick to just a synth song.
SPEAKER_10Today today is nothing but synth, though. Okay. All right. Y'all know the rules. First one to chime in with the song and/or well, yeah, song name. If you get the artist bonus points, that don't really matter. We'll do five. All right. Are you ready? Sure. We're gonna start easy. We're gonna start easy. I have a finger. I'm a pin down.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. That was on the tip of my tongue, and I was not ready to say it, and then I heard I'm the tiger.
SPEAKER_13I was looking at Russ. I thought he was just spoting this one.
SPEAKER_05I was getting ready because I knew what it was and I heard I'm the tiger.
SPEAKER_02I'm here to distract you. Well, yeah, you all you all teamed up on this, right? Am I expecting another dry race board? That was another fun for you all. First season.
SPEAKER_10All right, Ryan's got one. Song number two. Oh.
SPEAKER_02That desert storm is a good one. I don't know what this song's called. I know the song.
SPEAKER_13Sandstorm.
SPEAKER_17Sandstorm. There it is. Sandstorm. I helped you with that. You did. You said Desert Storm.
SPEAKER_12And then I drew out the only thing I knew was Sandstorm.
SPEAKER_02And then Ryan only knew that because of football.
SPEAKER_17Yep. South Carolina Cox. Yeah, I think Desert Storm Association, uh, South Carolina Game Cox. Come on, do it. Sandstorm.
SPEAKER_13He hasn't figured out how to throw that third layer in that ties it all together.
SPEAKER_02Norman Schwarzkopf. What is that? He may know he may get the correlation there. I know you wouldn't, James. You were probably involved then. Norman Schwarzkopf. He was the during Desert Storm. He was the in charge.
SPEAKER_16Yeah, Chris Farley. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02All right, James.
SPEAKER_16Oh. All right.
SPEAKER_02Ryan's got two. Say my name.
SPEAKER_17Say my name.
SPEAKER_02Nylon guitar on it. I mean, that did not expect to, you know, Destiny's child.
SPEAKER_10Where are we at on score?
SPEAKER_02Two to one, Ryan.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, let's call it. I think three's a good number to stop at. All right.
SPEAKER_10Let's plan.
SPEAKER_13All right.
SPEAKER_10Ready?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Dirty laundry.
SPEAKER_10Oh, shit. And I did not plan that. Oh. Come on. I was sweating when you mentioned dirty laundry earlier.
SPEAKER_02And I'm like, I just need Rennie to hit his pad and go, kick them in there up.
SPEAKER_08Kick him in the down. Kick him in there with the up. Kick them all over the back.
SPEAKER_02House doesn't have to do that one. We should break that back out because Rennie could play that. And that would be a fun one to do. Two to two.
SPEAKER_10This is the last one. This is a tiebreaker. Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_02Are you already? Yeah. I can't fight this feeling anymore or Rio Speedwagon. Of course. He's come through with the wheel. Funny little tidbit about them when they were real popular. My dad was working for Bell South at the time. And he reported to work the next morning, and his boss was an older gentleman that was trying to, you know, get in with the young guys, you know. And he said, Hey, did y'all see at Rio Speed Machine uh concert last night? On the TV. That's good.
SPEAKER_10Thanks for playing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Ryan, I'm very proud of you. I was sweating there, Ryan. You had me sweating.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, Ryan came through.
SPEAKER_13I feel like uh now we know James is rigging this because he pulled that dirty laundry just so I swear I didn't do something that I know rest knows.
SPEAKER_10That is too weird of a synth tone to just pull out.
SPEAKER_13Exactly. That's why it was planned. That was a pre-conversation. If I start losing, here's what you need to do.
SPEAKER_02Y'all, y'all taste that? Y'all taste that? It tastes like sour grapes to me. I'll tell you what it tastes like.
SPEAKER_10Hey, got any grapes?
SPEAKER_02All right, uh, Ren, we're going to game number two. Now, this is one of my favorites.
SPEAKER_10All right.
SPEAKER_02You guys ready to sing? Yeah, buddy. We're gonna we are we gonna we're gonna play this whole wheel out?
SPEAKER_17We might as well. It's last night. Let's play it all out.
SPEAKER_02Sounds uh Gorsh.
SPEAKER_17I'm gonna go ahead and get my goofy ready, man. Oh my gosh, a couple of new voices, couple of new songs, you know. And uh I'm gonna go and order my screen. And according to me, under my feed, it's Ryan. You're gonna be first, okay? Ryan, you're up. We all know the rules. We're just gonna spin it. Spin it. I love this game. Wait, am I spinning it? Nothing spinning it. Yeah, you're spinning it. Here we go.
SPEAKER_13Oh perfect. That is perfect. I don't even know how to do that. Mario. Super Mario. What does Super Mario even sound like?
SPEAKER_06It's a me, a Mario.
SPEAKER_13That's the goal.
SPEAKER_17A little bit Italian. He's a little more Chris Chris Pratt.
SPEAKER_13All I can think of is a do do friends in low places.
SPEAKER_17Just uh sing Friends in Low Places with a high-pitched Italian accent. There you go.
SPEAKER_13I got friends in low places where the whiskey drowns and the beer of chases of my blues away.
SPEAKER_15Bravo Dolce.
SPEAKER_10That was a good one, Rhino. There's a little bit of some Christopher Walken in that. Yeah. I gotta find us.
SPEAKER_02Friends in a low place. For Ryan, Super Mario makes Garth Brooks is Christopher Walken.
SPEAKER_17Whatever works.
SPEAKER_16Hey Russ, you're next. Okay.
SPEAKER_17Goofy, give me Goofy. Oh, it's going to land on Willie Nelson, I know.
SPEAKER_02Willie Nelson sings Twinkle Little Star. Okay, so Willie Nelson to me always it would take a what you would have a typical rhythm about it. And it would just destroy the rhythm of it. Pretty much. So it's twinkle twinkle little star. So it would be something like Twinkle Twinkle. Little star.
SPEAKER_06Oh, that's it.
SPEAKER_07Now I wonder what you are. Up above the world so high. Like a diamond.
SPEAKER_02In the sky. Mama, don't let your babies twinkle little stars. That's Willie, I can come out with. Okay. Chris, you're up next. Oh boy. Chris is always my favorite. It don't matter who it is. Yeah. If it's pick Snoop Dogg again, if you get Snoop Dogg again.
SPEAKER_16Oh no. Brittany Spears. Wonderwall.
SPEAKER_17Britney Spears thinks Wonderwall, Chris. Let us have it. And if you want to go grab a coffee, this is when you do it, because he really thinks about these. Yeah, he gives these.
SPEAKER_02I don't know where to start on that one. Well, you start with the you know, the the cadence of the song, or even a Britney Spears song and sing the lyrics of Wonderwall to the Britney Spears. I mean, you know, you've got options.
SPEAKER_17I'll give you a little hint on Britney. She kind of does this little breath thing, like uh a little grab breath. Yeah. Put that in there.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'll try this. Please do. Please, please try it.
SPEAKER_11Please try it real hard.
SPEAKER_14Okay. Today's going to be the day.
SPEAKER_12Okay. Oh.
SPEAKER_17Keep going, boy.
SPEAKER_05I'm whitening out.
SPEAKER_17Press that answer button.
SPEAKER_05I'm whiting out. I'm mine. I'm seeing spot. I just laughed so hard.
SPEAKER_13We've lost them. I just had coffee come up my nose.
SPEAKER_12Oh gosh. One more.
SPEAKER_17Viewers, we are so sorry. You're just now getting in zone. You just now got it channeled.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just based upon that, this was going to be demonetized.
SPEAKER_17We've lost all of our fake sponsorship. Seriously? You don't have any more? You want to move on? I mean, that was good. That was pretty good. That was pretty good. James.
SPEAKER_13Oh, gosh. Yeah, I will say James Michael Jackson from uh from the last time we played this.
SPEAKER_02All right. Mickey Mouse sings we will rock. Hey, you you could do this for for Andy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_10I gotta get my Mickey Mouse.
SPEAKER_12Oh, well, hi everybody. You got it.
SPEAKER_17What are you gonna sing for us, Mickey?
SPEAKER_12Well, there's this grandmother Queen and the boys.
SPEAKER_10I laughed in the other room like I got pullful ears.
SPEAKER_02Hold on. But a you're a boy make a big noise playing in the streets is gonna be a big man too. You can just say we were rocking over and over.
SPEAKER_12But a you're a boy. Make a big noise. Playing in the street. You're gonna ball in your face.
SPEAKER_10That's all you get.
SPEAKER_02That was enough. That was a that was great.
SPEAKER_17Uh M-O-U-S-E. We'll rock you. I'll take a turn.
SPEAKER_02All right. I wish you would have put Pee-Wee on here as a person.
SPEAKER_17We're gonna do it. Living on a prayer. Goofy sings living on a player. Well, gorgeous.
SPEAKER_16I need some lyrics.
SPEAKER_14Uh James can give them to you. Uh yeah, he's a good one.
SPEAKER_13I don't know. We canceled this the first episode.
SPEAKER_16Tommy used to work on the docks. Onions been on strike. He's down on his luck. He's tough, so tough gorsh. I don't know how to do this.
SPEAKER_15The hokey pokey.
SPEAKER_13You didn't tell me you're not pulling up the lyrics for Hokie Dokley. That's been an easy one. No, I'm not. I'm pulling up Bob Dylan songs to try to see. Just sing it really fast. But you're a little food. Nope. See, that's a bad Bob Dylan. I don't know. I can do Bob Dylan.
SPEAKER_10You have to ask for a harmonica in F, but play in G.
SPEAKER_11Hmm.
SPEAKER_13Boogie Pooggy. He just talks like this all the time. Yeah, right?
SPEAKER_11Yeah.
SPEAKER_13Well, see, I I feel like I'll lose it. Harmonica, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Do the hokey pokey.
SPEAKER_17To do the hokey pokey. Yeah, there it is. All right. We helped you out with that one, Ryan.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, it was just really struggling, Bob Dylan.
SPEAKER_17Some of these are tough, man.
SPEAKER_16James Brown. Oh, he's gonna sing Barbie girl.
SPEAKER_17James James Brown sings Barbie girl. And that's the I'm not Barbie girl.
SPEAKER_01And that's this one, Chris.
SPEAKER_02No. No, that's me. Okay, let's let's see.
SPEAKER_03Get up. Get on up. Whoa! Get up. Get on up. Get up. Get on up. I'm a Bobby girl. In a Bobby girl. Made of plastic. In fantastic. Living in a America. Barbie girl to Bobby Girl.
SPEAKER_12It's a Barbie girl. It's a Barbie's world.
SPEAKER_13I can't get past hot tub with James.
SPEAKER_12It's a Bobby girl.
SPEAKER_13There you go. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_05Chris.
SPEAKER_16It's my face.
SPEAKER_13Oh, Chris. Oh. John Anderson.
SPEAKER_17And happy birthday.
SPEAKER_13Happy birthday. Now come on, you've been here.
SPEAKER_17John Anderson sings happy birthday, Chris. Let us have it. Just hold your nails.
SPEAKER_14Happy birthday.
SPEAKER_17John Anderson's been drinking.
SPEAKER_13Been drinking tequila. Listen to K 13.
SPEAKER_14That's what K-13 was. Happy birthday.
SPEAKER_13Happy birthday.
SPEAKER_02They're so short and sweet. Yeah, right. I mean, he just gets right to it. That's great. I'm glad I didn't almost pass out for that one.
SPEAKER_16James. Oh gosh, the wheel. Oh, I hope he gets shit.
SPEAKER_10I'm gonna get Michael again. No, you're getting Snoop Dogg.
SPEAKER_13Mary had a little lamb. What was Chris's Snoop Dogg last time? Was it Mary Had a Little Lamb?
SPEAKER_10No, Michael was. I did Mary.
SPEAKER_13Michael was Mary had a little lamb. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I think it was Anky Break Your Heart.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, it was Anky Break Your Heart and Snoop Dogg. Yeah. Trying to get my Snoop. I keep wanting to do Michael.
SPEAKER_09I had a little lamb.
SPEAKER_10Yo, Mary had a little lamb whose face was white as snow. Oh.
SPEAKER_03Getting more berry white from that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_10Mary had a little lamb. I can't do snoop. I'm trying to think of like his slow, deep raps that he didn't. Mary had a lamb. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Flinch was white as Snizzle. There we go.
SPEAKER_10Oh. Mary had a delay. That turned into training a new genre.
SPEAKER_13That turned into Divo. I was gonna say it was more like a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a shot. Yeah.
SPEAKER_15All right. What was the stretchy sound?
SPEAKER_17Alright, we've been two rounds, so now it's gonna be we're going to spin the wheels.
SPEAKER_02It's your turn, Rand.
SPEAKER_17It's your turn. You skipped yourself. Oh okay. All right. It's my turn. Cher is gonna sing baby shark.
SPEAKER_01Shark shark shark shark shark. I can feel something biting my leg. I think it's uh a baby shark wall. Baby shark.
SPEAKER_07What was that, James? That was great.
SPEAKER_02I was dancing.
SPEAKER_12He's dancing, Rennie's uh baby shop.
SPEAKER_10I was over here dancing like a muffin character.
SPEAKER_02You look like an inflatable failing arm tube man. Or, as we know, John.
unknownYeah, right.
SPEAKER_02Shout out to John, he's a listener.
SPEAKER_17All right, now we're in the free-for-all. You see a matchup you think's interesting, we can all take a stab or somebody step up. So here we go. McDonald had a farm. This is Elvis Presley.
SPEAKER_02I think Rennie done this one earlier in the season. Man, he had a farm, man. That farm was huge, man. I'm telling you right now. Silla, go fish me a peanut butter and a sandwich while I look at this pig over here on O'Macknall's farm.
SPEAKER_16Yeah, that's just a with a hunk on here and a ongoing there, baby. That's right. And on that farm he got a pig. That's right. That's yeah.
SPEAKER_17I like Elvis. What else can we do? I know Kermit's gotta be done by Russ. And not yet. Michael Jackson. I don't want that.
SPEAKER_04The whee's got the wheels on the bus.
unknownGo round and round.
SPEAKER_04The dianna. The did diana's on the bus. The did diana's on the bus. No! Wheels on the bus!
SPEAKER_09Wheels in the bus go running round and running round and running round. Run and round. Run around.
SPEAKER_17Everybody get their Michael Jackson out of the system?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_07She was running on the bus then. Then the fell left and the wheels went. Oh.
SPEAKER_16Oh, Kermit the Frog. Thank you, Brakey Hard.
SPEAKER_08Hello, Kermit the Frog here. Well, you know, Piggy, uh, you can tell the world you never was my girl. Or you can tell your dog to bite my leg. Uh you tell your Aunt Louise to tell anyone you please. Self already knows I'm not okay. So don't tell my heart my Yankee Breaky heart. And just don't think you'd understand. But if you tell my heart, my Yankee Breaky heart, it might blow up and kill this man. Why are there so many songs about broken hearts?
SPEAKER_17I'm about to cry. I've got a great idea. We need to put a compile compilation CD of all these cool songs sung by Kermit the Frog.
SPEAKER_08Kermit the Black Frog.
SPEAKER_17A whose line segment.
SPEAKER_02It would be like doing a William Shatner.
SPEAKER_17Wait, do I have exactly two artists and two songs? You do. I didn't even find that out.
SPEAKER_02Oh. Controversy. Controversy.
SPEAKER_12I'm out.
SPEAKER_14That's tough, isn't it?
SPEAKER_05That is uh I fell into a burning ring of fire. I mean you get to go.
SPEAKER_14You're on the backwards. You're going backwards, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm gonna that one uh homb. Singing this song I hurt myself today. Yeah. To see if I can still him bop.
SPEAKER_17That's good.
SPEAKER_16That's that's the best I got with that one.
SPEAKER_02I mean, that's good. So that leaves If You're Happy and You Know It by Steven Tyler. So many. So many ways you can.
SPEAKER_15So many ways. I'll spin it.
SPEAKER_17Stephen Tyler, if you're happy and you know it. What?
SPEAKER_02Alright, let's see here. Steven Tyler happy and you know it.
SPEAKER_10I just keep thinking dream on.
SPEAKER_17Well, see, I think uh See, I've got a melody in my hands like her in my head.
SPEAKER_04If you're happy and you know it clappy hands, if you're happy and you know it clap your hands.
SPEAKER_02Okay, that that's like uh walk this way, right? So then then you go.
SPEAKER_05I don't wanna clap my hands. I don't wanna fall asleep because I'm happy, babe, and I'm happy and you know where you bravo.
SPEAKER_13I think what's uh what's the song uh Janie's got a gun? Nope.
SPEAKER_17Janie's got a gun.
SPEAKER_13The was it the the song from Armageddon?
SPEAKER_02That's what I just sang.
SPEAKER_13Was that the song? Yeah, don't worry.
SPEAKER_02How did that start? I could stay awake, just I just did the chorus.
SPEAKER_13So the I know do the breathe it, but but throw in the know it. The breathe it, you know.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_13That's how I thought about it. I just can't pull it off.
SPEAKER_07If you're happy, baby, then you know it.
SPEAKER_12I'm a producer for this. I'm not a performer. Yeah, yeah. Don't call me.
SPEAKER_02That was fun. That was fun, but that uh that's also bittersweet because it leads us to the the end of episode number 14. Season one, episode 14. We have uh right now had five episodes released at this date. This is uh again April the 15th. Tax day. Tax day.
SPEAKER_10Tax day.
SPEAKER_02Uh and we've uh you know we've we've recorded 15 of these boys. And it's been uh been an absolute blast. Or 14 of these, I'm sorry. Uh the 15th will be live and in person.
SPEAKER_13Technically 15th.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, technically we have 15 years. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_17I guess you're right.
SPEAKER_02Do we uh that the topics in in one does anybody even have what they were? And have we used them since?
SPEAKER_13No, I've documented it. Overrode it. Ren's got it, and I think we revisited one of the topics at some point.
SPEAKER_17Yeah, like sure we brought them all out.
SPEAKER_14Well one hit wonder, I think we did. And one.
SPEAKER_02Uh again, uh, look forward to uh September around Labor Day weekend. We're gonna do the 15th episode, 15th episode live.
