SPEAKER_05

Welcome to the Goo Zan Show.

SPEAKER_03

Welcome back to another episode of the Goozan show. I'm your host, Bregazan. Set next to me is Joe Freihhoefer. And Joe, we have an unbelievable show today with U.S. Soccer Legend and Hall of Famer, none other than Mr. Clint Dempsey.

SPEAKER_04

This one is a certified worldly. Not to say that we, you know, there was a bit of a learning curve for us here in this room. You've been smashing it, my guy. But this one right here, in a year when the World Cup is in Atlanta's backyard, this is going to take us to the moon. We're already soaring in the YouTube charts. Top four right now on the table. Keep it going. Uh, and this is gonna be an incredible story. One that talks about his documentary, Brad, which you guys got into a bit of everything with him.

SPEAKER_03

We did, we did. We were able to catch up at the Men and Blazers uh podcast uh live in theater. And so that was fantastic to be a part of it. I mean, dude, everything's happening here in Atlanta. The the the national team being here. Obviously, there's a lot of soccer events happening in around the city. Like I said, Men and Blazers, the game, production meetings, post-production meetings. Uh, we were at a Nike event yesterday. I mean, things are popping up all over the city. I know this is just the excitement uh that all the soccer fans are looking forward to, especially with the week ahead. I know there's more events on the schedule. It's gonna be uh it's gonna be unbelievable for the city of Atlanta and and all the fans.

SPEAKER_04

How many hours of sleep are you on right now, by the way? I don't know. We're gonna need another double expressor here shortly. You know, we just gotta keep going. Doing everything, man. Nike events, you're on TNT as well. What's it been like being on the broadcast side of footy now?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's been amazing. You know, to to be on the desk for the the pregame and the in the halftime and the post-game show for for the game. And um, you know, it was such a unique experience to not only be in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, to experience the US game versus Belgium in that capacity, uh, but then to to have the atmosphere that we had, you know, 66,000. The city turned up. You know, we know that this is a bit of a teaser for for the summer ahead. And so if this is anything to get excited about, uh, it's gonna be an unbelievable summer, man. And and can't wait. And the best part is get to do it all again for Portugal.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm amazing. The biggest dog of them all, as well, Clint Dempsey. I know uh Chris there in the control room. You got many nicknames. Big dog is one of them. But I think uh safe to say Clint Dempsey is probably the biggest dog. Can we touch on for a second here the documentary too? You don't know where I'm from, dog, coming out April 14th, Paramount Plus as well. Did he unpack anything for you? Did you get a little sneak peek at what it could be?

SPEAKER_03

He did he did, and you know what, uh Joe, his his story is so unique. And and the thing that I admire most about Clint was yes, his determination, not only his determination on the soccer field, but to go to England to be one of those trailblazers for so many of these current national team players, right? When when you ask these guys, oh, who did you look up to and who did you watch growing up, uh, you know, his name is always top of that list, and it's always Clint Dempsey this, Clint Dempsey that. But it wasn't always easy for him, and and he talks a little bit about that. He talks about um just you know who he is as an individual, and and being from Nacados, Texas, and this this small town and the the sacrifices his his family had to make for for him to be able to go and live his dream. Um, it's it's unbelievable, man. And so I couldn't be any happier for him with the documentary. Um, and as I told him, you know, I'm I'm most proud not to be able to call him uh a teammate, but most proud to call him a friend. All right, guys. Well, welcome back to another episode of the Goozan show. We have a very special guest in the house, a USMNT absolute legend, Hall of Famer, Mr. Clint Dempsey himself. Deuce. What's up, brother? What's happening, man?

SPEAKER_00

How you doing, Polar Bear? All good, dude. AKA Wayne Wayne Gretzky.

SPEAKER_03

Listen, I'm asking the question. Okay, my bad, my brother. My goodness. My bad. Um, how are you, dude?

SPEAKER_00

Man, I'm doing great.

SPEAKER_03

How you doing? I'm good. I'm good. Transitioning to the other side, yeah, doing things like this. Yeah. I know, you know, I see I see you behind the camera, you know, and crushing it.

SPEAKER_00

Just gotta live it up, do your thing. How's it going? It's going pretty good. I never thought I'd be doing media and that kind of stuff, but um, it's almost felt like being in national team camp sometimes when you do it, being around the boys, and you know, reminds you those old glory days when you used to battle it out on the field. So uh yeah, it keeps you around the game, keeps you a little bit relevant, and your kids, you know, think you're cool a little bit. So Dad, you're on TV.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly, exactly. So that's that's cool, man. And obviously you're crushing it. Um, you know, you you when you think about Champions League, right? Looking back as a player, when you, you know, wanting to be a part of Champions League, and now you get to cover it, right? You're you're watching these games, you're you're crushing it with with your with your co-hosts, right? And and the last that you guys are able to produce, you know, it's it's unbelievable coverage. What are you like most you know looking forward to kind of week to week um when you're going through getting preparing for for these shows?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean, to be honest with you, the Champions League show is not really my like realm of expertise, right? I just kind of fill in when uh they need help, right? They they to put the Batman signal in the sky and they kind of show up. So if like Thierry has something going on, or if Jamie's got to go to a Liverpool game, or Micah's got to go to a Man City game, I just kind of come in every now and then and just kind of bring bring some good vibes, make some jokes, and uh yeah, they already have such a great thing going. You learn so much every time you go over there, just in terms of how each one of them looks at the game, how they analyze it, and you know, do the slow-mo and pause and talking about the different positions on the field and what movements they want to see from different teams. So I always feel a little bit more educated uh for doing that. But uh yeah, man, never got to play Champions League, so that sucks. But uh at least I get to cover it sometimes and with uh with a great uh crew and especially Kate. She's uh always putting me in good spots looking after me, knows I don't get to watch football or soccer as much as I used to. So uh, but the last window was a little bit easier, just really concentrated on watching that first fixture because I was there for the second leg. So uh it was uh it was a pretty light lift.

SPEAKER_03

Nah, crushing it, dude. And you talked about you know a busy life, you got a lot going on, yeah a lot of kids running around, playing an Uber driver, I'm sure. Going going different practices and in different schedules. What's what's that been like, man? Just being able to be an inspiration for obviously so many people that that watch you as a player, but you being an inspiration to to your kids and you know, like you said, being a little bit on a little bit cooler on the cool factor of being on TV and all.

SPEAKER_00

Well, the thing is is like your whole life, right? You're really focused on yourself and you're trying to go pro and you're trying to have the best career that you can have. And at some point, your your day in the sun is done, and it's time for other people. So, right now, like what you talked about, it's trying to help them accomplish their goals, trying to follow their dreams, and you want to give them the best opportunity to be successful because that's what your parents did for you. So that's what we're doing, running the roads, being the Uber driver, and then you know, picking and choosing my moments when when to dabble in the TV or be around the game. And you know, I feel like I found that right balance. I don't think I could do a league because it's week to week and I would miss a lot of my kids' stuffs on the weekends. So I think I found the perfect cadence and just kind of being around the national team and kind of hopping in here and there to do some stuff instead of you know that nine-month week-to-week grind. I don't I don't think that would be for me.

SPEAKER_03

For sure.

SPEAKER_00

And talk to me, dude.

SPEAKER_03

Are we still we still got time for hunting and fishing?

SPEAKER_00

Hell yeah. All the time. Hunting, fishing, golfing. I tell you, people struggle being retired, they they're not doing it right. You know what I'm saying? There's plenty of stuff to do, man. So uh I need to take a page out of your come on, man. I'll I'll educate you.

SPEAKER_03

Hey, let's go. Let's go. I mean, you mentioned, right, like going back, thinking about the glory days, and you know, when you look back on your career, what what what's something that you're most proud of? Um is a national team, is it Premier League? And you know, we we we talked to previous guests. Like we took we talked to previous guests that you know, going over to England, it's it's hard. It's very hard. You went at a time when not many Americans were going over, staying over and having the success, and you were a trailblazer for so many, you know, some of these current national team guys, right? They're they're looking at you saying, Yeah, okay, I want I want to be like Deuce, I want to be like Clint MC and go out there and have that success. But what for you is is something that you're you're most proud of?

SPEAKER_00

Well, initially it was you know, growing up, 1994 World Cup happened in the States, and then I was dreaming about, hey, one day I want to play for my country, right? So like that first World Cup in 2006 and scoring against Ghana and tying the game, I mean, that will forever be like such a milestone for me because coming from Nacadoches, Texas, small towns. Big shout out, Nakadosha, Texas. Let's go. Now you know where I'm from, dog. So yeah, man, to make it on that world stage was was was truly special. But then also I what I'm proud of is I wasn't satisfied where I was. I wanted to keep going and take it to a higher level. And playing in the Premier League, that you know, against the best players week in and week out. I mean, truly test yourself. So those are the things that mean the most. World Cups, playing in the Premier League. That that's you know, you never would have known what you're about unless you were kind of tested yourself and put yourself in around the in that environment. So that those are the things that I'm proud of.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I love that, man. I mean, I think about you know, when I was over there, and you know, you were such an inspiration, just to me, right? And and the fact that like you're over there, you're crushing it, and you're you're seeing fellow Americans having that success. It just it pushed you to continue to fight and continue to try and you know pave this path for for the guys that are hopefully gonna come after us, and and you certainly did that for for so many, man. So appreciate you, bro. Can't thank you enough, man. Um, yeah, and and listen, you know, you you touched on it, you know, big shout out, Nakadosha, Texas. Yes, sir, yes, sir. You know, obviously, I know it's a big weekend for you. Big weekend. Um tell us, I mean, listen, we we know about the game, we know about the US game and all this, but we're we're here for uh uh a big old weekend when it comes to uh the movie scene.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean it's it's it's a big weekend all around, right? Big documentary. I mean, tonight, you know, we're doing a live show, Men and Blazers. Yes, we're here. Hey, we appreciate you too.

SPEAKER_03

Shout out to them. Shout out to them for allowing us the space. Yes, you taking the time to sit down and enjoy the podcast.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, bro, you know how it is. Just hit me up, you know, I'll be there with you. Um, and uh yeah, yeah, you you mentioned uh the 29th, the documentary's coming out. So uh you know it's called You Don't Know Where I'm From, Dog. And uh Yeah, Mike had kind of got us started with talking about what's the craziest thing you heard from anybody on the pitch, and he kind of told that story, and then we just kind of ran with it. The name kind of caught fire and uh yeah, signed up to do this documentary, didn't know how it was gonna be, but uh it comes out in in April and it's a it's a five-part series. So uh I think uh it has a lot of ups and downs, and uh like any good roller coaster, you know that's what you need, and uh put on your seatbelt and hopefully the people enjoy it.

SPEAKER_03

Buckle up, no, they're definitely gonna be able to enjoy it, man, because uh I know your story is is so unique and I know your personality and your character, and to now be able to have a camera. What was it like for the family?

SPEAKER_00

It was really nerve-wracking because you have to be able to trust people to come into your like personal space, personal space, and you know, they want to look at old videos, they want to look at old photos, and it's like you don't know what's on some of these VHS tapes or whatever you're saying or whatever, and you know, being in front of people don't really know how it's gonna be edited. But shout out to Pete, Alex, uh, everybody with C CBS Paramount. I mean, they looked after us, um, they told the story in a great way, and they took the time to travel to my hometown, to come to Furman. Um, you know, we went over to England, got some of the family back over there to uh go to a Fulham Arsenal game and and and do the Champions League show or allow them to kind of come on to show what some of the post-career uh things that I'm that I'm doing now. So I just think it's a great story from beginning to end. Just um it's something that we can my family can look back on, and and it just will always be a a great thing because my kids' kids, it will always be there. You always want to have something that kind of talks about uh your legacy, and I think that's kind of the for a whole family, really. I think it brought us a little bit closer together by talking about some of the issues and hardships that we we went through. And uh at the same time, I think it gave me a little bit more peace just on everything, my career, you know, the ups and downs of it all, how everything ended and what I'm doing now. And I think sometimes that's uh that's a hard thing for former players to go from where you're so important and in playing week in and week out to really trying to find your purpose again. So uh it's been it's been a it's a pleasant surprise for me.

SPEAKER_03

That's awesome. And did you ever when you look back at your career, were you did you ever I I was saying that it wasn't a regret, but I was always w wishing that I took more time to be in the moment. Yeah. Looking back on on some of these old videos and things, do you do you do you feel that or do you do you think that when you were in those moments, you you appreciated them, you took them in, or looking back, you're like, man, I that was that was pretty sweet what I was able to do there, or have that experience.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I think the biggest thing is just you didn't appreciate when you were fully fit and felt good and playing. Yeah. Because the older that you got and how difficult it was on those to bounce back from games and get back into full training became more difficult and more difficult. So I wish I'd enjoyed that part a a little bit more. Um I think um it's it's tough to smell the roses because you're always grinding, man. There's always the next thing. And if you would have maybe stopped and smelt the roses a little too long, maybe you wouldn't have accomplished what you did. But when I think back at my favorite times, um it was it was it was playing in Europe, playing in England, um, and get being around like May or April, uh, and you know you kind of put the hay in the barn, and then the rest is just icing on the cake, right? So that was kind of my time. I would say that you kind of got to smell the roses a little bit. You might can go play a little bit of golf or something if it when you have a day off, because basically, until you know that your team is in a good position and you've had a good season, you don't want to be seen out doing these type of things. So um, you know, that's that's how we balanced it. And then the crazy thing is every summer the national team called and we were back working and we didn't get much of a break. So uh the grind never stopped. You're lucky if you got three weeks off a year or two weeks off a year to kind of uh decompress, and that's that's probably why you don't really get to smell the roses too much because it's just it's you either either stay on top of it or someone will replace you.

SPEAKER_03

So for sure, for sure. Um listen, not many people know this, right? But you're big into rap music. Oh hell. Nah, listen, you're big you're you're big into rap music. I like rap, yes. I'm not big into rap music. But what do you mean? What do you mean? You do did did you did you or did you not produce a song? Way back in the day, 2006. I was part of uh called Double Trade. Big shout out to Men and Blazers. Yeah, I I hear there's some some some big uh big artists, uh big name artists coming gonna be here tonight. Yeah, big boy. Yeah, what? Okay, are we excited?

SPEAKER_00

Hell yeah. Let's get loaded in the polo blanket stone than the talking this. That's what I'm talking about.

SPEAKER_03

Um, dude, when I when we confirmed that you were coming on, I was like, man, when was the first time I met Clint? You know, like Ferman. And I was like, Yes, and we went back, we pulled up the box score. Do you remember the score of that game? I think I'll beat us. Nah. Nil. Okay. 110 minutes, double overtime. Your team had nine shots, two on target, you had one. There we go. I had two says. There we go. One in an unbelievable game. Double overdraft. Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

Put you straight to sleep.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, damn. Okay. Just battle. Hey, congrats, dude. Got the shut up. That's what it means. Probably didn't happen too many times that year. So, you know, it was good. So I appreciate you.

SPEAKER_00

That's back when he had some hair, though.

SPEAKER_03

Hey. And some teas, some hair. Nah, nah, I'm just sunburned. Um, dude, listen, man. I I can't appreciate you enough to uh to come on, sir, talk some chop. And uh you know what got you, man.

SPEAKER_00

Proud of what you're doing. It's always a pleasure. You know, you've always been a great teammate. So when you called me, I was like, I gotta I gotta come through for my boy. So let's go. Yes, sir. Appreciate you, bro. Appreciate you.

SPEAKER_03

Joe, what an unbelievable episode. Man, it was so good to catch up with with Clint and to hear um just a little bit about his journey, hear about his uh exciting times ahead, not only crushing it in the media field, um, doing Champions League with I mean Terry Henry, great character, Michael Richards. Big meeks as well. I mean, just dropping big names, right? And and um you know, to to be able to to hear that this documentary, you know, what it means to him, uh, the experience that it's been for him and his family. Uh like I said, just such a a great dude. Um is always true to himself. And I I certainly feel you you get that when you when you listen to this this chat.

SPEAKER_04

Just a larger than life character, too. He's one of those guys that growing up uh playing you know World Cup with all the the friends in the backyard, too. He's the last name that you would say quite a bit. Going on, go. I didn't get to say goose an all too much, but come on now. What a guy I know we gotta get that change, right? Uh just an incredible guy, wore his heart on his sleeve always as a player. And I think in this era for the USMNT, too, with Potch here as well, he's a guy who can really lead the lines in terms of the media space. He's always just speaking from a player perspective, much like you do as well. Uh, and we are so grateful to have had him here on the program. Pretty cool.

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely, man. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_04

Let's get into it now, guys. It's time for Brad Kuzan's mailbag delivered by the Home Depot. Always arriving on time. We want to say thank you so much to all of you guys for all of your awesome questions that you guys have been mailing in. Oh, we got a big batch today, goose. You ready for this first one? Let's go. We have got oh, here we go, kids stuck in. What is a purchase you made that you immediately regretted? This one's from Barbara in Sandy Springs. Oh my goodness. Purchase that Brad immediately regretted.

SPEAKER_03

Um I mean, that's that's a really good question. Um trying to think what what stories I could tell here. I've I've got a I've got a good one. Um, my wife and I, this is pre-kids, okay? We're in, you know, we're in England, we're living in an apartment, um, and she's like all about you know wanting kids and we wanted a large family and all these things. Um and that wasn't the case at that time. And so what was the next best thing? We went and got a dog. We got a puppy.

SPEAKER_05

There we go.

SPEAKER_03

And so we end up getting a puppy. Um, and we go to this person's house and welcome us in, pay for the puppy, all the things, right? And we're like, oh, this is amazing. And we were a little bit in over our head, and um night one wasn't great, and it wasn't great for a few different reasons that we're not gonna get into. But that next day, I called the I called the the breeder back and I said, I'm gonna I'm gonna be honest, this this isn't for us. We're not we're not at that that stage. And we took the we took the puppy back. And when we took the puppy back, I think they they were expecting us to to want our money back. I said, listen, we just want this puppy to be in a loving home, and so we need we're gonna need you to to find a a loving uh a loving home for this puppy. It's not our home. And so, and they said, Well, listen, we're there's no refund. And I said, It's not about the money. We've that we made a mistake. It's not, you know, we just need you to re-home this puppy uh in a safe and healthy manner. And so um, yeah, that was we had we had a puppy for one night. And then fast forward to to today. Right, beautiful redemption, right? About two weeks ago, we we ended up getting a puppy, and and now we've got four kids and a puppy, and puppy's thriving, kids are thriving, everyone's happy. It's all about timing. So what breed was that first pup in England? Uh I don't remember the breed actually. It was gonna be tiny, uh, tiny enough for for an apartment uh style living. Um, but yeah, it's uh it wasn't to be. And and I think the breeders were probably the happiest out of everyone because they were like, oh, and we're gonna get to charge twice for this puppy, you know. Like this guy just he paid us and brought it back the next day. This is fantastic, but um, yeah, didn't work out. Controller, what what do you guys got in there?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we're not the only ones with buyer's remorse. Fellas, what we got?

SPEAKER_01

That is a bad one for me. Um we my wife and my friends always label it the closet of broken dreams. I get into something and then uh they I I quit doing it later down the line. Let's see. Uh, ones that come to my mind, I bought a Peloton Rover, use that like twice, and it just sits there as like a uh coat rack now. Uh I try to convert um a like a free like a freezer, a chest freezer in. Into an ice bath tub that's just uh sitting in the back. That was an expensive purchase. Probably used that once. There's a bike thing.

SPEAKER_03

Maddie, did you convert the ice chest into the ice tub?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. Okay. I've also converted uh like a uh a 55-gallon drum into a smoker. Oh yeah, classic, classic. Did that, and that's also just like sitting in the back, like it's a junkyard. Um, I could go on and on. People get very like I get I get a lot of flack from from the the wife uh about like all the things that I get really into something, I research it, I buy it, and then I never use it again.

SPEAKER_03

Hey, I like that. I like that.

SPEAKER_01

I mean uh but the thoughts there, right? I was trying to get some row in in, get that cardio going. How about his wellness?

SPEAKER_04

Do you do uh you got a cold plunge routine nowadays, uh Mookie that you follow in the mornings? Oh no, no.

SPEAKER_01

I that thing is like it's in the junkyard. It's gone. It's gone.

SPEAKER_04

We got another heater here, guys. This one comes from Renee in Cedar Town. This is money, Brad. Which Mario Kart character are you?

SPEAKER_03

Oh which I have one that comes immediately to the head. Let's see, let's see. No, I I know where you're gonna go, but I'm I'm going. Listen, when I was playing Mario Kart, it I I was all about Toad. Toad, yeah. No way, he was super fast. What device are you playing on? N64? Uh yes, it wasn't mine though. Listen, I when it's when it comes to gaming systems, I wasn't a gamer. I wasn't uh a gaming and uh wasn't big into it, still not big into it. Um my last system that I had as a kid, Sega Saturn. I don't even know what that looks like.

SPEAKER_04

Sega Saturn? Yes, yes. What would you play on that? All the games, the OGs, yeah. Did they have Smash Bros for that? I have no idea.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I this was so long, this was so long ago.

SPEAKER_03

I was not a gamer, clearly. Um, but then all my buddies had like N64, and you you go play that, and it was, you know, do you remember Goldeneye? Oh, yeah, goldeneye on N64.

SPEAKER_04

POV was just like two hands and a pistol, right? Exactly. There was about like 64 pixels on there, too, like super OG graphics. Also, Toad, why?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because it just felt right. Well, Toad was always the quickest.

SPEAKER_03

Small, quick.

SPEAKER_02

Toad.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. For real? Who or I'm gonna be honest, or I think Princess. I feel like print print princess was was was quick too.

SPEAKER_02

You played as Princess Beast, bro. Listen, Princess Bowser. I don't mind that.

SPEAKER_04

I don't mind it. Uh, who are you gonna say? I was gonna say, well, I thought of you as a Bowser guy. I don't know why. Exactly. I knew you were gonna say that.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, right. But Bowser. I'm sorry. Bowser's not winning any race. I'm telling you right now.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he's got that crazy slow acceleration, right? Exactly. But he's his card is heavy as hell. No one's knocking him out of the way. Yeah. Listen, unless that green turtle shell, bang. Dog.

SPEAKER_03

You know?

SPEAKER_04

You want to talk about some real life PTSD? You know, when you're in first and you're like celebrating in the living room, you hear the what's the noise that the blue shell makes, or it's like, oh yeah, yeah, yeah. What you're talking about. And you look up and it just poom! Panic. Finish. Nothing works.

SPEAKER_02

You're like, come on, come on, get me back in, give me that legendary game.

SPEAKER_04

Uh control room guys. I was gonna say I'm a big uh Waluigi guy myself. You know, I got a good balance, thinner frame, you know. That cart was pretty light, but I like that. He had a bit of everything. Rainbow Road, by the way, I would crash out. Who? Rainbow Road? Did you ever I was born? Rainbow? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

You never play that?

SPEAKER_04

No, let's do that.

SPEAKER_01

But I know what it is like. Yeah. Listen, we can tell that Brad is not a gamer because he doesn't know Rainbow Road, first of all. Also, Sega Saturn? I think we mean Sega Genesis? No.

SPEAKER_02

Sega Saturn was after Sega Genesis. Sega Genesis was the old school like plastic games that would go in the topic.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, you're wrong. You're wrong. Sonic the Hedgehog was on Sega Genesis. Wait, either way. You're talking about a game, we're talking about a topic about characters. Yes. Sega Genesis was the system.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I know that Sonic the Hedgehog was on. Correct. Sega Saturn. Google it right now. Get an image of Sega Saturn.

SPEAKER_03

It had the DVD or the CD. I don't even know what you call that.

SPEAKER_04

It's the big plastic.

SPEAKER_03

Like, you gotta go into the top of the code. No. Well, that was Sega Genesis. Sometimes you'd have to like that was Sega Genesis. Yes. And that was Nintendo. OG Nintendo. Okay. Um then I have no idea. Show me an image of Sega Saturn.

SPEAKER_02

It had the C D. Yeah. No, that's not it. The black one on the left. The black one on the left. Yes. And it came with the C D. Sega Genesis.

SPEAKER_01

Sega Dreamcast, I think. Oh, the Sega Saturn. Sega Saturn, thank you. What year was that out in?

SPEAKER_03

Alright.

SPEAKER_01

I told you that. I know, right? I told him. I'm a good gamer growing up, but I don't I remember the Sega Dreamcast and then the Sega Genesis.

SPEAKER_04

Well, there was Sega Saturn in between them. All right. This is making me think of the you guys remember like Blockbuster, the Hollywood family video era too. It would didn't you used to be able to rent games? Oh yeah. Yes. Absolutely. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_02

You don't know about this? Well, I'm trying to think.

SPEAKER_04

I grew up on GameStop. GameStop was like the yeah. I used to go, I would take my DS there, you could turn it in and get like a you know, swap your device for a new one. That was crazy.

SPEAKER_03

Friday, Friday nights growing up, you'd go to Blockbuster. It was always you get a pizza, and then you're going to Blockbuster, you're getting a movie, you're getting a game, and then that's it.

SPEAKER_04

Scenes. That was it. Unbelievable. Final one, guys, we've got Rodney from Rome, Georgia. Shout out Rome, by the way, guys. We were just there for a little GA 100 action. It was amazing. Does round or square pizza taste better? Round or square pizza?

SPEAKER_03

I'm going round. I'm going round. Yeah, you think you when you think of pizza, just you think round.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I mean Chicago style is round, right? Almost always.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. But I mean it's round, but and you can still cut this the pieces into squares.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Does that make sense? Yeah, I'm just trying to think of my slice technique now. Like, are you a folder? You know what I mean? Like if you pull it out, I can always go like this.

SPEAKER_03

You can't, you can't with Chicago. No, because they're little squares. But that's the problem. That's that's that's the problem. I end up oh just like little square. It's like it's like pizza bites, you know? Next thing you know, half the pizza's gone, you're like, oh, that's gonna be a problem. That's gonna be a problem. And then before you know it, you're like, oh my gosh, I'm so stuck. Falling asleep next to the booth. Watch watch watching the blockbuster movie that you just rented.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, question for you, Brad. Um, you're a Chicago guy. Are you pretty are you pretty um adamant about the Chicago pizza? Like the dish? Let's go. Are you that kind of guy? Yeah. Also, I think that the square, from what I've seen and tried, is the Detroit style. It's not too bad. Kind of thick as well, right? Kind of a little toasted. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I mean, listen, I I don't know. I'm I'm going off of my experience of Chicago. I know it's not New York style where it's like one slice is a quarter of the pizza. Um, you know, I know that it comes around and then it is sliced into little squares, and then they become pizza bites, and then I eat half the pizza, and I'm like, this is not good. I should not have done this. Um, so yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Two more fun ones here, real quick, to wrap it up. First one, if your career were turned into a documentary, what would you insist be included that fans never saw? Man, that's tough.

SPEAKER_03

That is tough. Fans never saw. Um I was gonna say, initially, I was gonna say inside the locker room and all that goes on in the locker room, right? In terms of the laughs and the jokes. But I don't think that that would do well, uh, if I'm being honest. Um you turned on the Bowser? Yeah, uh, so I don't think that would do well. Um, I think just growing up, just my childhood and playing baseball, and I was a terrible basketball player, but played basketball because my friends did, and um that would that didn't last long. But yeah, just growing up as a kid in the south suburbs of Chicago and playing all the sports in the backyard and you know, roller hockey, flag football, you know, all the things.

SPEAKER_04

Uh last lovely one here from Frank, who would like to ask you, Brad, the best part of being a girl dad?

SPEAKER_03

Great question, Frank. Um, you know what? I I love how sweet my daughters are. Um, you know, and I say that not because my sons aren't sweet, but they are just complete opposites. When the two girls and the two boys are together, the two boys constantly arguing, fighting, teasing each other, like all the things. Guys, stop it, this and that, like constant. The girls, they can be quiet as can be. And it's like, what are they doing? Oh, they're playing with their dolls, they're doing this, they're doing that. Um, but they're doing it and they're they're getting along. And I'm just like, you guys are so sweet, you know. And I've I've told this story, you know, off off air, off camera, uh, before. And you know, my wife and I, we were sit sat with the kids one night having dinner. We try to have we try to have a family dinner as much as we can, uh, just because that's how my wife and I grew up. And um so we were just chatting around the dinner table, and she asked the question, like, oh, who's who's gonna take care of mom and dad when uh when we're older? You know, and just quiet crickets, nothing. And we're like, wait, what? No, you're gonna be able to do it. And the boys, the boy, the boys are looking at each other like I'm not me. Like, they've got this look on their face, like, no, we're good. And then sure enough, my daughter, don't worry, mom and dad. I'll take care of you. I'm like, I I don't like to have favorites, but in that moment, she was definitely my favorite because I was like, the boys are looking like, oh gosh, don't don't look at me, don't make eye contact with me. It's not gonna be me that's taking care of you. Fellas, what is it? I know, I know. Um, but girls, girls, they're the sweetest. Um my my youngest, she's four. Takes no nonsense from anyone. Uh it probably comes from being the youngest in the family. Um, but uh our now nine-year-old, she turned nine over uh on St. Patrick's Day. Um yeah, she's uh she's great when it comes to just the the biggest heart and um clearly her love for her mom and dad.

SPEAKER_04

So I'm sure they're gonna see this. What do they think of the pod so far? Give you any any pointers, any thoughts on the show?

SPEAKER_03

They they love it. They love it, they love uh the interactions that we have, the interactions with with the guests. Um, and so they've been really excited by it. And you know, who knows? Maybe maybe at one point we'll we'll get them on, you know. They'll be like, what are you a couple new chairs? I know we're gonna need a few more. She got the room.

SPEAKER_04

We're gonna need a few more. 100%. We also got uh CEO of Girl Dadding in the control room, Mookie. Mookie, can you back Brad up there on life as a girl dad? What's your what's your favorite part when you say it's the best.

SPEAKER_01

I got three girls. I'm I'm girl dad through and through. And Brad's right, they they truly do take care of you. Uh and even when you like stump your toe or whatever, and you're like, oh, and they're like, Are you okay, Dad? Are you okay? Like they're so they're so nice, and and I do feel pretty uh confident that when I do get old and I need someone to take care of me, that they will absolutely be there. I don't worry about that part in my later years. But no, it's the best, they're the sweetest, and um, you know, you you you don't know what to expect when you find out you're having girls and then a second girl, third girl, but it's the best. I love being a girl that I know Brad does too.

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely. The the best part is you know, I get to wear fake fake nails every now and then. So you know, yeah. Problem is you find them all over all over the house after they just take them off and throw them anywhere they want. Exactly.

SPEAKER_04

Leave an extra one on when you come into the show too. Exactly. Hopefully. Well, that's been guys, the mailbag delivered by the Home Depot, always arriving on time. Brad, two friendlies through for the US MNT as well. What excites you most about the World Cup coming to Atlanta? Eight matches here in the 404, too. Any any parting words for what awaits us this summer off the back of a chat with Clint Dempsey? What a show.

SPEAKER_03

Let's go, Atlanta. This has been a a little tease of what to expect. You guys have shown out in huge numbers, both in the stadium, outside of the stadium, at all the different events. This is only scratching the surface of what we're gonna see this summer. Can't be any more excited, not only, like I said, for the games themselves inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but for all the events happening outside and for us as a city and the community to be to be able to show off uh Atlanta to the world.

SPEAKER_04

Well, if you like the Guzan show, guys, make sure you like, subscribe, send it to a friend, and keep the train moving on the total subs as well. We are soaring in the table right now. Thanks so much for making the show the special segment that it is. Brad, thanks as always. Appreciate you guys. Thanks, Joe.
