Adam is joined by John Fry for Episode 16 as the guys bounce around the Philly sports world. The Phillies are showing signs of life, but the offense still raises big questions. Should they chase a right-handed bat, go all-in for pitching, or just find some consistency? The guys also dig into Andrew Painter, Brandon Marsh’s hot streak, and Christopher Sánchez’s Cy Young case.

Carson Di Martini. Yeah, that's him. He's the top third baseman for the Phillies, and he's ranked 16th. Yeah, I I I like him. Apparently, the Gabriel Rincon's uh he's an outfielder, he's in triple A right now. There's a chance we could see him at some point. Um apparently he hits pretty well. It's just some things I've heard on the radio. I haven't paid much attention to the Phillies' prospects. He's sixth on the prospect list. A big dude. 6'3, 225. Apparently he can rake. What's he batting this year? I mean, he's batting 227 right now, so I guess not that much. But 227 still puts him above a few people on the professional roster.

So it it's obviously no secret that they still need a few pieces. I don't think this, as the roster currently stands, is a championship caliber team. So what do you think they need more? A right-handed power bat that they clearly so desperately need, or do you go out and try to acquire the likes of Scoobyl or some other quality pitcher?

I Scoobyl's gonna cost a billion dollars. So with next season not happening, is a rental a rental if you get technically a whole year to talk to him still? Or how's that gonna play out? I don't think Bohm's on the team much longer.

Yeah. And they're so streaky, and they've been just a streaky baseball team. I don't know if it's nerves. I don't know if they go up there, they see the guy at get get out in front of them, and so they strike out. I don't know how many times I've seen it that the that Schwarber goes and hits a home run, and the guy, whoever's batting behind him, because the lineup moves around every now and again, or Boehm hits a home run, the next batter is swinging first pitch and popping up. That drive that drives me insane, especially if it's a bad pitch.

Yeah, it yeah, you need contact hits, like singles, three singles in a row should score a run. Even a single, a hard hit ball to the outfield that moves the guy over, and then another single, you just gotta start stringing hits together. There's games where they're not getting any hits. You look at it like, oh, they have two hits, and it's the eighth inning. Like, of course the pitch counts low for the the pitcher and the uh the opposing pitcher and the bullpen.

Uh yeah, I I could see him figuring it out. Um it's you know, first first year in the bigs, you're you're gonna figure out what works, what doesn't. My I would I care less about what he does for the remain remainder of this season. I care about how he attacks the offseason. What does he work on? What does he try to improve? And then how he starts coming out of the gates in spring training next year. That's that's gonna tell me a lot. Because if if it doesn't look good, then at that point I'm probably out on him.

Yeah, I I agree with that. I I mean there's really not much else to to disagree with. I want to see what his progression is. What is he gonna actually work on? He's uh I there's not a time to add a pitch or anything. It's maybe some. I know Chris Sale, it worked really well for him. It was an arm slot issue. His ball's just not moving.

Maybe he should do what Sanchez does. Pick three pitches that you really like that you know you can throw well and just focus on them and then work your other pitches back into your arsenal at a later time.

They look they look good. I mean, um let's look at the box spur real quick. Toronto has one hit. Lazardo's got five Ks, two walks. I I'm fine with that. All day. You can't you cannot complain by your starting pitcher going out and get he's I mean, I it's the fourth inning, or it's the bottom of the fifth now. Five Ks, two walks, and a hit. And your offense put up six runs on three home runs.

They talked about I think Kruk was talking about it. They shortened up his swing a little bit. He's not swinging out of his shoes as much, if you noticed, and he's still pimping home runs now. Like he's he slowed the game down. It almost looked like it sped up on him. But as a veteran player, it it it it that's that's unexcusable.

So I heard Spike Esken talk talk about that. Yeah, I I know, I know. But he his conspiracy theory on this, I'm actually on board with. Look around the league at what some uh some of the teams have right now. You got Bo Nicks playing well, rookie contract. You had Sam Darnold just win a Super Bowl in a very team-friendly contract. You got Drake May having some success in in New England, rookie contract. You got a lot of young guys performing at a high level and winning games on contracts that are costing the organization nothing so they can spend the money elsewhere. Since the Chiefs paid Mahomes, they've had they've started to have less and less success. The Cowboys have never had success since they gave that massive payday to the Dak Prescott.

You you have a great offensive line who knows how to block, and you have at least two good receivers and a solid running back, you're gonna win games as long as you know how to read a defense. Don't be the hero, don't try to force plays, do what you're good at. Do the dink and dunk down the field. If it works, it works. It might take you a whole quarter to score seven points, but hey, that wears down their defense and keeps ours fresh.

The Flyers definitely don't have a good social media presence like other teams, specifically the Minnesota Wild. Uh Minnesota Wild's YouTube page is fantastic. They have a ton of behind the scenes stuff, and it like it all seems like and it's like day in the life of like Marcus Felino. And then when his brother got traded, um brother got traded there. It was like they brought him in, and another is like day in the life is being traded. Like it they did a really good social media presence to show how much that team actually bonds together. Now, does it also help the flyers when they do do media stuff that all the flyers are at a Phillies game and Mitch Koff supposedly there, but not in the picture?
