Mudvayne headlined The KATT’s “First Annual” Monster Ball with V Shape Mind and Finger Tight on October 29, 2003 at the Bricktown Event Center.
And yes, the show was sold out.
But the real conversation turned into one of the great promoter rules of all time.
Do not call your event the “first annual.”
It has not become annual yet.
You have to make it to year two before you can say that.
Call it the inaugural event. Call it the launch party. Call it anything else. But the second you print “first annual” on the flyer, you are tempting fate.
And in this case?
There was only one Monster Ball.
The first annual was also the last annual.
Still, you cannot take away from the show itself. Mudvayne at Bricktown Event Center in 2003 was a big deal. Heavy crowd. Big room. Sold-out night. The kind of booking that showed how strong that building was during that run.
Big stage.
Big sound.
Big lights.
Sold-out metal show.
Just maybe don’t call it annual until it happens twice.
