fact, the very existence of chapter five says something to us that we need to know. 00:03:15.439 --> 00:03:25.439 Actually, like all of the other chapters we've had so far, chapter five proves that God keeps his word. 00:03:26.159 --> 00:03:42.240 Now, if you study this closely, which almost no one ever does, but we will, as we study this chapter closely, we're going to come away, or you should come away with a chilling feeling. 00:03:42.639 --> 00:04:00.400 You see, not only are there lots of begats, as you would imagine, with a chapter that starts with the word generations, there are lots of begats, but not only that, in this chapter, there are also a lot of, and he died. 00:04:01.120 --> 00:04:06.719 Those represent two of God's most basic promises. 00:04:07.039 --> 00:04:15.120 There's fruitfulness and multiplying, as evidenced by the numerous begats and the word generations. 00:04:15.280 --> 00:04:18.000 God said, Be fruitful and multiply. 00:04:18.160 --> 00:04:18.959 said both of those things would happen, and their reality is laid out for us right here in chapter five in coldly simple terms. 00:04:39.600 --> 00:04:44.079 God said, Because of sin, thou shalt detail, but it's packed with meaning. 00:05:05.680 --> 00:05:08.879 We're used to that by now, I hope. 00:05:09.439 --> 00:05:20.079 Here God is demonstrating that his plan for mankind is moving the there in that sentence is plural, and it's referring to Adam and Eve. 00:11:32.720 --> 00:11:41.200 Now, some have tried to water this down by saying that there, the word there refers to the entire human race. 00:11:41.519 --> 00:11:48.240 Well, indirectly it does, but I believe God is making a very important point here. 00:11:48.639 --> 00:12:01.759 Now, another thing I've hammered away at in this ministry, and not just in Genesis, but anytime we teach and the subject comes up, family is of vital importance to God. 00:12:02.240 --> 00:12:12.639 The family unit in his economy is the most basic, most foundational organizational unit in human society. 00:12:12.799 --> 00:12:17.279 Our very structure as a species depends on it. 00:12:17.519 --> 00:12:24.000 Indeed, our very civilization cannot function properly without it. 00:12:24.240 --> 00:12:33.759 Family is the foundation of God's plan for the flourishing and blessing and redemption of the human race. 00:12:34.000 --> 00:12:39.519 And besides the Bible, I have perfect proof of the truth of that statement. 00:12:39.679 --> 00:12:40.320 What truth? 00:12:40.480 --> 00:12:42.960 That family is so important to God. attacking in our own day? 00:12:54.720 --> 00:12:56.720 Why, it's the family, isn't it? 00:12:57.200 --> 00:13:01.200 He's trying to convince us to redefine it. 00:13:01.519 --> 00:13:14.240 He's tried to make the standard view of family a repugnant thing, as something that's oppressive, as if it's something made by mankind that's impossible. 00:13:14.639 --> 00:13:22.320 We find ourselves in families naturally, but the devil wants us to disbelieve that. 00:13:22.639 --> 00:13:26.320 He's trying to minimize the importance of family. 00:13:26.559 --> 00:13:31.120 And at the moment, he's actually trying to destroy it. 00:13:31.679 --> 00:13:34.159 As I said, Satan hates this. 00:13:34.240 --> 00:13:43.200 And if he hates it, if Satan is against it, then there's no better confirmation portion of verse 2 and on the word Adam. 00:15:06.559 --> 00:15:16.720 Now, way back when he first arrived on the scene, I believe we talked briefly about the origin of the name Adam. 00:15:16.960 --> 00:15:34.080 As you remember, we said that the word Adam seems to derive its meaning or is perhaps a play on another Hebrew word, Adama, Adama, which means ground or land or earth. 00:15:34.240 --> 00:15:44.720 Now, some say the first man's name was purposely given to him to keep him in remembrance of his humble origins. 00:15:44.799 --> 00:15:46.480 And I think I agree. 00:15:47.440 --> 00:16:10.480 Though biblical evidence is sparse, and we won't be getting into this here, but it's believed that the previous creation, remember, we talked about this, the one that existed between Genesis 1.1 and Genesis 1.2, the creation that caused the earth to become a waste and a desolation. 00:16:11.200 --> 00:16:27.360 The destruction of that creation was perhaps caused or on brought on by the haughtiness, the high-mindedness of whatever creatures existed at the time. 00:16:27.519 --> 00:16:31.039 Remember, Lucifer, he got haughty. 00:16:31.200 --> 00:16:39.279 He got above his thoughts, and he was actually cast to earth with two-thirds of heaven, with the two-thirds of the angels. 00:16:39.600 --> 00:17:00.639 God does not want us to lose sight of who we really are, because whoever roamed the previous earth developed at some point, so it's said, an attitude of superiority that must have threatened the balance God always imprints in creation. 00:17:00.879 --> 00:17:14.079 Now, whether that's true or not, it sure seems that God is interested, God is insistent that mankind not make the mistake of thinking himself too high. 00:17:14.559 --> 00:17:25.359 That would also explain the very severe punishment God handed out to Adam and Eve when they dared to imagine they could be just like him. 00:17:25.839 --> 00:17:30.160 God hates vanity and he loves and treasures 00:17:47.200 God is making a point about the name Adam here in Genesis chapter 5. 00:17:47.359 --> 00:17:55.200 And perhaps what he is doing is reminding us that Adam needs to be reminded of his years and begat a son in his own likeness after his image and called his name Seth. 00:18:44.720 --> 00:18:55.440 Now, if I were to ask for a poll here, how many of you believe that Adam was 130 was still sticking around after all the other grossly unscientific information we've covered thus far. 00:19:22.799 --> 00:19:27.920 Listen, I I'm willing to ignore the six-day creation process. 00:19:28.160 --> 00:19:33.920 I can overlook the woman from the man's rib thing, the talking serpent, all that. 00:19:34.079 --> 00:19:41.920 But come on, having a child at 130, and listen, I as I say, if I'm willing to believe that Christ came out of that tomb, everything else seems easy. 00:19:56.640 --> 00:20:04.880 And you know, in times past, when teaching this stuff, I would try and offer up possible explanations. 00:20:05.039 --> 00:20:15.759 You know, different atmospheric conditions, sturdy bodies with far fewer diseases to deal with, pure unspoiled food chain. 00:20:16.960 --> 00:20:18.720 But let's not do that this time. 00:20:18.880 --> 00:20:29.440 How about we just realize that God doesn't expect us to prove to ourselves by some empirical analysis that his word is true? 00:22:09.599 In fact, let me make a suggestion that if you're convinced that this isn't true, if you insist that this just cannot be valid, well, just close your Bible up and take up a different hobby
