draft day recap and avs and nugs game 3 recap
Good morning and welcome to Tebow and Sports One Fan All Game Podcast number two. Morning after round one of the NFL draft last night in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And the first round went obviously as most of us expected. Um, with the number one overall pick being Fernando Mendoza to the Oakland Raiders, now the Las Vegas Raiders. Still the same old team, picking somebody that I think will wind being another bust. He doesn't have the mechanics, I think, yet to be in the in the NFL. He he probably should have stayed in college another year to develop those mechanics. He obviously hasn't been able to do that yet. He doesn't have a lot of the strength to throw long balls downfield. He doesn't have a lot of weapons on his team. It's a young team, new head coach, again, with an owner that is very, very strict on this is how things go if you don't do it. You're gone as as a head coach. So I think Mendoza is in for a very long way of being developed in the NFL and probably went to the wrong team to be developed on. The Jets obviously stayed at number two. David Bradley, edge rusher out of Texas Tech, one of the strong guys. Jerome Love went to the Arizona Cardinals at three, the probably the obviously the best running back in the NFL draft. Cornell Tate, wide receiver out of Ohio, Buckeyes, wound up going third. Three Buckeyes, four buckeyes were picked fairly close to each other, and obviously that's how that is. Again, with the Ohio State Buckeyes being able to develop high talent, high-caliber players that are NFL ready coming out of college. The and then the Jets pick or the Giants picked Del Reese, Orval Del Reese, an edge rusher out of Ohio State. The first cornerback went to the Kansas City Chiefs, the probably the best in the in the draft out of LSU with Madison Daline. They traded up three spots with the Cleveland Browns, and it was an interesting trade, but you know, Cleveland got a third and a fifth, and that's about it. Sonny Styles, the linebacker out of Ohio State, the third running, the third person out of Ohio State to go that quick in the draft. Jordan Tyson, the wide receiver out of Arizona, he went to the Saints. Utah picked the first offensive lineman off the board out of Utah. Spencer Fano, again, good guy, but young, young player, ready, obviously going to be ready. New York picked an offensive lineman out of Miami, two linemen back to back. Then the Caleb Downs, the safety out of Ohio State, yet again, another Ohio State at pick 11 to the Cowboys, which they traded up a couple spots to do that. One spot with Miami. Miami took an offensive tackle out of Alabama. Then the big surprise of the evening. The Rams at 13 traded up and went and got Ty Simpson. One of the big reasons that everybody shot, that shocked everybody because I was where the Jets were going to pick. Everybody thought the Jets would pick up Ty Simpson. Obviously, now everybody knows that he is the error apparent to Matt Stafford, who was on the verge of retiring maybe one more year, maybe two more years for Stafford. So he is obviously going to be the heir apparent for that. Another guard went at Penn State to the Baltimore Ravens. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked an Ed Richard out of Miami. The tight end went to the Jets at 16, which again they traded with the Rams. So that was interesting. Obviously, maybe they didn't, they figured that he wasn't going to be on the board and they jumped up. Caleb Burks, Blake Miller, an offensive tackle out of Clemson, went to the Lions. Caleb Burks went to Miami or Minnesota. Another lineman, Monroe Fairfield went to the Rant or went to the Carolina Panthers, which is interesting. Again, a young guy going to a team where he can help protect the quarterback. Wide receiver to SSU McConn Lemon went to the Eagles, which they traded up with the Dolphins with. They traded up to go get him. Another offensive tackle out of Arizona. So we've had quite a bit of offensive tackles, which we thought we would see in the first round. We thought we would see a run. That was one of the positions that had a lot of depth in the first round. Another edge rusher went to Pittsburgh, got another offense tackle, which again, we we figured that would happen. An edge rusher went to the Chargers, helped bolst up that Charger defense. The Cowboys picked again at 23. They picked up another edge rusher. A wide receiver went to the Cleveland Browns. Give hopefully give Shador Sanders some some help there on the on the right receiver. A safety went to the Bears out of Oregon. The Texans picked a guard. Again, we we knew that there was going to be a run on offensive, offensive linemen. Another quarterback, cornerback went to the Dolphins. Again, trying to both drop that defense because they had a lot of picks. Two picks in the first round that they got one got from Denver. They traded up to go get him. Another offensive tackle went to the New England Patriots. Here we go again. Yet another one. We figured that would happen just to help get that offensive line a little bit better to have protect wide receiver. Omar Cooper Jr. went to the Jets at 30. And Frankensive, another edge rusher. Again, another defensive guy. This was a very heavy defense. Running back depth is good. You'll see a lot more running back coming off the board states two and three, probably. He went to the Tennessee Titans at 31. And the Defending Super Bowl champ Seattle picked a running back out of Notre Dame. So two running backs out of Notre Dame win in the first round. You know, we obviously knew that the number one pick would go as we thought. The first running back was picked at three. Again, that was, I think we knew that was going to happen with Arizona going up. The first trade came with Kansas City and Cleveland swapping picks. The Buckeye, four different Buckeyes were perked were picked in the first 11 picks. Which is obviously again not a surprise, especially for the talent they that they that they were there. Four defensive linemen were in the top 10 picks. Obviously, we we know that more came later in the round. The first offensive linemen went at nine overall. Again, we kind of figured that was going to happen. We figured maybe a little bit earlier than nine, but the second offensive linemen went at 10. So you had an offensive lineman, offensive linemen back to back, which I think a lot of analysts figured would happen. But again, we figured that would do it. We knew the Cowboys would trade up a spot, and they did. They wound up trading up again. And the Dolphins first number one pick was out of Alabama. Again, two Alabama guys went in the first round. Again, which isn't surprising just because that's Alabama's one of those teams in college that can produce NFL ready, NFL caliber players in a real quick amount of time. So we're gonna go on to segment number two, game three recap of the Colorado Avalanche. Again, Colorado was able to get the first goal, take the lead, hold on to the lead, and they were able to get a shorthanded goal. They wound up winning game three, four to two. So more goal, two more goals scored in game three than in game and one and two combined. They now have eight goals in the first three games and have only allowed four goals in the first three games, which again, with it, Wedgewood, we kind of figured that was going to happen where he he was gonna be able to have some really good games and stop. Last name in game three, he allowed one more goal in, which isn't really going to affect it. They now have a commanding three-degree three games to none lead. Hopefully, the avalanche on Sunday can end this series and have some time to rest. Let's hope that the the Dallas Minnesota game goes at least seven games, maybe six. Let these two teams really battle each other out, battle and then see if if they can really wear each other out. By the time they have to play the Avs, so the Avs are rest of the Avalanche are ready to go, and the Avs can move on to the to the next round and hopefully get into the Western County Files and to the Stanley Cup finals to where they are going to win. Obviously, both teams from Colorado played last night. The Nuggets also played in Minnesota at the target center on Amazon Prime. As a lot of people figured, if the Nuggets were to lose that game, they would go down two to one. They would put themselves behind the eight ball, which is exactly what they did. They wound up being down really early, and they couldn't make the first couple shots, and they were down quite a bit in the first quarter. They kind of had some time to come back, but they just they just couldn't do it. They wound up losing 113 to 96, which now they are two games away from being eliminated in the first round, which is the biggest fear I think a lot of people had, and especially us Nuggets fans had, was playing Minnesota in the first round, which is a very, very, very good team, a very talented team. But they know how to manipulate and beat the Denver Nuggets. They know how to do it. They they know if they can get one game in Denver or steal a game, and then they can kind of get that momentum rolling and able to continue to do that. So we'll we'll see. Game four is Saturday night in Minnesota. Again, I think if the Nuggets wind up losing that game, we are in for a really big world of hurt, and we will see them being limited probably in game five in Denver, if not in game six in Minnesota. I really, really hope this doesn't go to a game seven, but maybe it does, and that's really, I think, gonna hurt this. Whoever comes out of this series is gonna hurt the most because you're making this series go on longer. You are gonna wind up playing the the winner of the the San Antonio Spurs and San Antonio Spurs and the Trailblazers, and that that's gonna be tough because again, even if that game goes seven, if both these games series go seven, that that is could be detrimental to both. Because again, the Spurs haven't been really in the playoffs all that much. They don't have that ability to see what happens, and and the further their series goes, I think the more dangerous it becomes to where they can be eliminated, or if they do get to the next round, they're gonna be worn out, they're not gonna know what to do, they're not gonna have the sustainability to be able to get on to the next round and even get into the Western Conference Finals. Game four for the Avalanche is Sunday. That's a big win. Is that a must-win for the Avalanche? No, they are up three games to none. If they wound up losing that game and and the the LA Kings are able to steal a game, it's not gonna be that big of a deal. Game five will be back in Denver. The Nuggets, the Avalanche can win it then. But that that is a series I think is over in four. I think the Avalanche will win that one, and we will we will have a uh the Avalanche will have a long rest between games. Today is round two of the NFL draft in Pittsburgh. The Denver Broncos do not have a pick. Obviously, we know they didn't have a pick in the first round because they traded it off to the Dolphins um to get Jalen Waddles, which is a good pick, but their pick isn't until 30th in the second round. 62 overall. Again, when you do well in the season, you get to the AFC Championship game, you lose. You are really far down. The 49ers have the first pick in the first round. Then the Cardinals, Bills, Raiders, Giants, Texans, Browns, Chiefs, Bengals, Saints, Dolphins, Jets, Ravens. Buccaneers, Colts, the Atlanta Falcons, the Minnesota Vikings, the Detroit Lions, the Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, the Steelers, the Eagles, the Chargers, Jacksonville, the Bears, the 49ers again, the Texans again, the Bears again, the Rams, the Broncos at 62, the Patriots at 63, and obviously we know the Seattle Seahawks have the last pick in the every single round, with the exception of the seventh, and the very last pick in the seventh round is the Denver Broncos, Mr. Irrelevant. So we'll see what happens. We'll see if the Broncos trade up today or not. I don't think they will. I know one of the tight ends that they wanted is off the board. There are some other tight ends. There's a few more out there that I think maybe they'll they'll try to go and try to go and pick up. They do have a good amount of draft capital. They do have, they don't have any in the third round. They do have one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the three in the seventh. They do have the last two picks in the seventh round. So maybe try to trade some of those to get up or see what they can do and trade some players. Um and see again, there's still some decent young quarterbacks on this board on in this draft on the board still. There's, like I said earlier, there's a lot of running back depth. So maybe get another young running back, maybe obviously get another young tight end, um, still kind of share up that defense, which they can do. But let's see what happens here in day two. Day two is a little bit quicker, again, eight minutes for for the draft pick last night, which is new, which they started this year. And that that was that was fantastic. That that really made that first round go quick. Only one team went the whole eight minutes they were on the phone trying to draft, and that was the Dolphins. So that that that really trade. So again, that shows that now these teams have really got to be ready to go, really gotta have who they want and know and really pay attention because years past you had 10 minutes, then you had 15 minutes, then you had 10 minutes, and now it's eight. Obviously, as the rounds go, the less time you have. So round two will go a little bit quicker Saturday with three, four, three rounds one and two, or two and three are tonight, so it'll be a little bit longer tonight. And then Saturdays four, five, six, and seven. And those go really, really quick. That that starts early in the morning and is done by early evening. So we'll see how the Broncos do in day number two of the draft when they finally get their first pick at number 30th in the second round and number 62 overall. So we'll see how today goes. I will be back tomorrow to go over rounds two and three. See y'all later.
