This week we discuss our guilty pleasure movies and shows while getting into numerous tangents. Hope you enjoy!

SPEAKER_04

Cheers.

SPEAKER_02

Welcome to the Shot On Film Podcast.

SPEAKER_04

Ooh, that one was worse than usual for you. Love that.

SPEAKER_02

Kind of under my nose a little bit.

SPEAKER_04

That always feels good, you know? I prefer it when it goes right down the throat and uh where it belongs.

SPEAKER_02

So it's one time, me and Harrison. I was about to tell this story.

SPEAKER_04

That's perfect.

SPEAKER_00

We were gonna watch Haunting at his first apartment when we were in college. True.

SPEAKER_02

And I don't know what made us be like, you know what? We need a shot right now.

SPEAKER_04

Well, nothing's much has changed.

SPEAKER_02

Harrison doesn't need much of a reason at all. I literally could have walked into any room and been like, Hey. You know I'm what?

SPEAKER_04

Hey. What? I don't know what you're implying.

SPEAKER_01

That you don't need much to take a shot.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, all right. You might be right about that.

SPEAKER_01

Huh?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, okay. Go on.

SPEAKER_02

Anyways, am I wrong?

SPEAKER_04

No arguments.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

No further questions.

SPEAKER_02

Um that we were like, well, we went to the kitchen and we we what was it flavored, Jack Daniels?

SPEAKER_04

It was Apple, I think.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm. Like green apple.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Yeah. Or was honey. It was one of the two.

SPEAKER_02

No, there was no way.

SPEAKER_04

Either way.

SPEAKER_02

Either way, it burned like a bitch.

SPEAKER_04

It went down both of our lungs and not into our stomachs.

SPEAKER_02

And then coughed, and then maybe went down the wrong, the right one, like on its way back up.

SPEAKER_04

A U-turn. Yeah. Um both of us at the same time.

SPEAKER_02

At the same time. And then we were just like dying.

SPEAKER_04

Remember that to this day, honestly.

SPEAKER_00

Ooh, it's still so funny to me. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, every time I take a shot, I think about that at this point. Really? I'm like worried it's gonna happen again. It's happened maybe once since then, you know.

SPEAKER_02

I do worry now. Because I'd never experienced that before having that with you. That was true. And then it was just us like on the ground being like, that was the worst fucking experience of my life. And everything just burned. Like viciously burned in my throat. It was so bad.

SPEAKER_04

Twas painful.

SPEAKER_02

It was so bad.

SPEAKER_04

Anyways, I know that's what you guys are all here for. Uh this week. Guilty pleasure movies.

SPEAKER_02

I guess alcohol can be a guilty pleasure.

SPEAKER_04

Or it's just a pleasure. Depends on who you are.

SPEAKER_02

It depends on how how often you go in a church. Well.

SPEAKER_04

Guilty pleasures. Guilty pleasures. So obviously, guilty pleasure movies are movies that the general consensus out on them is that they're not very good.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And that we might feel guilty for enjoying them or finding pleasure in them. So I don't think all of mine are general consensus. Everybody hates them, but I would say the majority of people do not enjoy them.

SPEAKER_01

That's fair.

SPEAKER_04

Or don't really know what they are, or have watched it once and are like, yeah, that was kind of mid.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm like, no, it was fun. What are you talking about?

SPEAKER_04

You know?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I think it's one of the one time where like me and Harry talked about this like before we've been like, what do you got? Right. I have more TV shows than I do movies, and you have movies.

SPEAKER_04

I don't have any guilty pleasure TV shows that I thought of when we decided to do this topic.

SPEAKER_02

That's okay.

SPEAKER_04

But I have five movies.

SPEAKER_02

I have I have I have TV shows. Okay. I have a couple movies, but I I um I I I've I feel like I've talked about one before at this point. I don't totally remember it, but I'm so sure that I have. Um probably you do. Probably. And then two of them, I just think it is funny that they are Eddie Murphy things.

SPEAKER_01

They're both Eddie Murphy movies.

SPEAKER_02

So I looked up beforehand to be like, what? Because in my head, I know it's hard to see like what's like a guilty pleasure.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And be like, because if you like it, then like, you know, maybe you don't think it's bad. And unless you talk to other people, like you're how are you gonna know?

SPEAKER_04

I'm sure we're not the only human beings on the planet that enjoy these movies.

SPEAKER_02

And it's one of those things where like I wouldn't consider these like bad movies.

SPEAKER_04

I would just say that they're not like as many people's favorite movies.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I don't hear it as often.

SPEAKER_04

I have a couple like sequels in mine that are like generally regarded as some of the worst in said series, and I'm like, nah, I like it.

unknown

Damn.

SPEAKER_02

So I guess I'll start some of the princess sequels from Disney. I'm like, no, that was cute. I liked it. And then other people are like I love Cinderella 3.

SPEAKER_04

I agree, it's pretty good. Two is pretty bad though.

unknown

I like two.

SPEAKER_04

See, that's a guilty pleasure. There you go. I think general consensus is two is pretty bad.

SPEAKER_02

But it's so cute, and I just like the little, it's just little vignettes.

SPEAKER_04

Have you seen the Sleeping Beauty like Christmas one with the organ bad guy who's like the giant organ, pipe organ?

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_04

Ah, good times. Little animated like 1998 Sleeping Beauty.

SPEAKER_02

See, here's the thing.

SPEAKER_04

I also beat you Oh my gosh, beauty and the beast. Oh my gosh, beauty and the beast. My bad. My bad. Here's my other thing.

SPEAKER_02

I also at first thought you said organ, like an internal organ. And I was like, excuse me. Nah. Forte. He's the bad guy. That's so funny. That's funny. If that's gonna be a guilty pleasure, then maybe I do have a guilty pleasure movie. Like for sure, and it's gonna be Cinderella too. Alright, fair enough. I love Cinderella too. Uh, enough that we were like, and I think that this turned into like my own like hot girl niche. Um, I love cassette tapes. Okay. And I like, I know who the fuck. Um, I have cassette tapes, and I like going on my hot girl walks and like having indie film lover of you. Thanks. Thanks. I know it's annoying, but I do like it. It made me somebody's manic pixie dream girl, I know. Um probably. But like that, my love for that started with a cassette tape of Disney princess songs, and like at least half of it were songs from the Cinderella 2 movie. Oh my god. And they're so good.

SPEAKER_04

So what is that, like very early 2000s?

SPEAKER_02

Well, y'all don't know, uh, listen, there there's a part in that movie where where Jack Jack turns into Jacques.

SPEAKER_04

I remember this.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. I remember this. And then part of there's a part of the oh, and I don't know who the singer is, but girl, fire.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely beautiful. She said, When you're small, one inch tall, and then you're six foot two.

SPEAKER_04

I remember the song.

SPEAKER_02

It's good.

SPEAKER_04

I was raised by sisters. I've seen it many times. Have you seen the We're just on the tangent of Disney Secrets?

SPEAKER_00

I don't give a fuck.

SPEAKER_04

Have you seen Peter Pan 2 Return to Neverland?

unknown

Yes, the fuck I have.

SPEAKER_04

That one's fun. I know, but I just you got me going.

SPEAKER_01

This keeps happening to us. Oh well. Oh well. Oh well. There's overlaps.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Get over it.

SPEAKER_04

That movie is really interesting. What about Lady in the Tramp 2? Scamp's Great Adventure. I have not. That one I hate. That was my little sister's favorite one growing up, and I watched it three or four times in a day. One time when she was sick. She's like, watch it again. And I was like, please, no. And my mom was like, She's sick. She gets to pick. And I was like, I'm only two years older than her, so I don't know. It's probably like five or six years old, you know. I love Sydney. And then they did that to me with Starstruck. Do you remember Starstruck, the Disney movie?

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, D-comms?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I had the flu one day, and my sisters did too, and they're like, let's watch Starstruck, and then they watch it too.

SPEAKER_02

All decoms are guilty pleasures for our generation.

SPEAKER_04

And that's fair. That one, that one is not a pleasurable experience for me, but I'm sure other people like it.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, we need to get out of sequels because this will be a whole separate episode.

SPEAKER_04

So my first one is a sequel. Jesus.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

It's a Star Wars film, which is generally considered the worst of well, at the time it was considered the worst Star Wars film made, potentially. Although I think the Attack of the Clones is worse than this one. The Last Jedi. Star Wars The Last Jedi. A lot of people don't like Ryan Johnson's work on that one. Like, I don't know if you have any opinions on this film.

SPEAKER_02

I I my thing was I remember just being really. I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan. I'm a much bigger Marvel fan.

SPEAKER_04

And that's fair.

SPEAKER_02

You get one or the other, and then there's combos. It's true. In a world where I'm so bi blank, this is where I pick a side. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

And that's okay. I know it's not a perfect movie.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's what I was gonna say. It's not, but whatever. It was fun. I where I'm not like a big Star Wars fan, but I did grow up watching Star Wars.

SPEAKER_04

Most of us did.

SPEAKER_02

Right, because we're born in the 90s. Um I was really happy to be able to like sit in a movie theater like with my mom and see like the like iconic Star Wars and all of like the credit route.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, I was like, oh, this is cool as fuck. It is cool. I liked it. Yeah, it's fun. I had a good time.

SPEAKER_04

It is a good time.

SPEAKER_02

I was it, you know. Um did I totally understand what was going on? No. Dude, are we the same level now?

SPEAKER_04

Uh I think so, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Liar.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, I'm just looking at the levels.

SPEAKER_02

I'm just going off what I can hear in my head.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, now we're both looking at it.

SPEAKER_04

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_02

There's no way in hell.

SPEAKER_04

But like, you see how the levels are the same?

SPEAKER_02

I am I that loud.

SPEAKER_04

You are a little loud. I always have to quiet.

SPEAKER_02

Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.

SPEAKER_04

No, it's okay. Speak at whatever volume you're comfortable. I should just set the levels appropriately.

SPEAKER_02

Filipino.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Um Star Wars The Last Jedi. It's not a perfect movie. Look, I didn't really love Luke milking the teat of some space cow. And I didn't really love the choreography in the throne room fight where the guys literally just run around in circles until it's their turn to fight them. Whatever. There's some really cool stuff in there.

SPEAKER_02

There's some really cool stuff in there.

SPEAKER_04

Like when I can't remember the character's name, but she shoots the ship at the other bad guy's ship in light speed, and it like all goes silent and it just goes. Like, that's pretty cool. Luke being a forest ghost from across the galaxy, that's pretty fun. The visuals of that movie are really awesome. The planet with like the red dusty sand is really cool looking at the end. I mean, there's there's some good stuff in there. There's some witty dialogue. There's some yeah, I don't know. I I like Leia in that film. I mean, yes. Rest in peace.

unknown

I know.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, you're sitting over there now.

SPEAKER_02

Just uh get over it. Uh yeah. I also looked at them. I mean, I often look at the monitor to be like, what does this mean?

SPEAKER_04

You're a little off the screen. Um I know you get comfy. Um, I don't know. I know people don't like it, but I enjoy it. I watched, I I bought that movie as soon as it came out on DVD after it was released. I still own it, obviously. Uh, and I watch it for fun sometimes. It's a good time, but a lot of people really don't like it. But then Rise of Skywalker came out, and everyone was like, okay, this one's even worse.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, people just didn't like new things.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Or like, well, it was one of those things where like it it's uh it's hard to be like, oh, I I love this franchise and I wish there was more of it.

SPEAKER_04

And then you think it's been 10 years and we're finally getting new ones.

SPEAKER_02

And then you make more of it, and people are like, that's not what I wanted, and you're like Well It's kind of what happens when shows take too long to come out.

SPEAKER_04

People come up with what they want to happen, and then it doesn't happen anymore.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and then I mean at this point, I'm talking to you.

SPEAKER_04

Also Game of Thrones.

SPEAKER_02

Shit happens.

SPEAKER_04

It does. And people's expectations are just gonna be too high when something's that popular and it goes on for that long and you have to wait that long.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, I mean, it it's also all right. Well I feel like people also want original stories, but then don't want to give the original story a chance. And so, like, because I remember knock this what is it? Um I think it was Strange World. I think there was either a a Disney or a Pixar film, and it was like that was an original story, and y'all didn't want to go see it because you were like, I don't know what this is. And you're like, You didn't want to try something new. Same with Elio. Yeah, it was also either a Disney or Pixar film.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I know if you know not that long ago.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Adam watched it and he was like, I liked Elio, and I was like, that's great.

SPEAKER_04

I have the second most lowest rated Pixar movie of all time.

unknown

Fuck.

SPEAKER_04

Behind Lightyear, which by the way, I didn't think Lightyear was that bad. I don't know why people hate Lightyear so much.

SPEAKER_02

Because it's gay.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it was a good movie.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I had a great time.

SPEAKER_04

It was fun.

SPEAKER_02

I had a good time.

SPEAKER_04

Eight out of ten. Good time.

SPEAKER_02

I don't remember it that well. I saw it once. I also I saw it once in theaters. And I I didn't like walk out being like, I hate that. I was just more like, that's cool that like, oh, like this is like the doll.

SPEAKER_04

Fun different story.

SPEAKER_02

Buzz is like designed after. That's cool. I thought that was cool. I like that.

SPEAKER_04

Anyways, guilty pleasure.

SPEAKER_02

Sorry, that's us.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. You got one.

SPEAKER_02

We're just good.

SPEAKER_04

We're yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, um, here's the thing. So, and you watched me before cameras were rolling. That I was like looking because I was like, I don't know that I had a guilty pleasure movie. And then um, so I was looking at lists of other people's.

SPEAKER_04

Right. That's called research.

SPEAKER_02

Thanks. I was like, is there something that I'm forgetting right now that I can't think of? Um, that like, you know, could be considered a guilty pleasure and why is Eddie Murphy on in so many of these movies?

SPEAKER_04

Haunted Mansion is a guilty pleasure. That was the one I was gonna say. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

It for me it's Haunted Mansion and uh Daddy Daycare. Daddy Daycare. Yeah, that I'm like, and I don't watch them like often, but like I do, I do enjoy those movies, especially like Haunted Mansion. That movie's fun. Pretty fucking good.

SPEAKER_04

And when they they came out maybe for the age that it's starting.

SPEAKER_02

I was like, this one I remember being a kid and I was like, I was fucking terrified, but I loved it. I had so this is where my horror started was Haunted Mansion. Um and this they remade that movie. And I was like, oh, this thing's gonna be scary as fuck. And it it it wasn't nearly as terrifying as it was the original one. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't like I wanted it to be scary.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Well, it's it's hard to make a scary movie that's also made for kids.

SPEAKER_02

Well, the first one did it.

SPEAKER_04

I know. But it's hard.

SPEAKER_02

They had murder.

SPEAKER_04

They did.

SPEAKER_02

They had multiple murders, they did. They had the most terrifying spiders I'd ever seen.

SPEAKER_04

Watch Lord of the Rings.

SPEAKER_02

They had so that gigantic spider. They had so many skeletons. That's true. They had mummies. They had they had ghosts, they did, they had poison, they did, they had a lot of conflict.

SPEAKER_04

All of the things.

SPEAKER_02

They it was so good.

SPEAKER_04

No arguments here.

SPEAKER_02

I oh who is upset?

SPEAKER_04

People.

SPEAKER_02

Boo.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know. It doesn't get any doesn't get a lot of praise.

SPEAKER_02

It doesn't get enough, it doesn't get talked about enough.

SPEAKER_04

No, it does not. But here we are talking about it.

SPEAKER_02

Here we are, giving you your roses. Eddie. And then daddy daycare. I just thought, I don't know, dad. And I just had a good time. Nah, it's fine. I just had a good time. And like especially ridiculous. Yeah, and when I was a kid, I didn't like think about how like, oh yeah, like dads don't really take care. Dads don't really like take care of children. And I I in my head I was like, I don't know why. And then I'm gonna die. Get out of your water.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you.

SPEAKER_04

Uh so my next guilty pleasure movie is a little film, I believe it's from 2008, starring Hayden Christensen in not a Star Wars film. Oh. And that is the movie Jumper.

SPEAKER_02

I've never heard of this movie. I've never even heard of it. I've never heard of this movie.

SPEAKER_04

All right. Listen, I've said probably some things about Hayden Christensen off this podcast. I can't recall saying anything about him on this podcast. Do I think he's a phenomenal actor? No. However, this movie is fun. This movie, Jumper, I'll set the stage for you because you've never even heard of it.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, okay.

SPEAKER_04

He has uh, and he learns this from a young age as a teenage boy, the ability to teleport. Uh, and he uh gets up to some mischief with that ability. He also falls in love with said ability by taking a girl on a date to the Sphinx, just as they're in New York, and he's like, hey, no, now we're in Egypt. And she's like, Whoa, oh, now we're in Paris. Okay, and now we're back. Fun times. And then, of course, because it's a movie, uh, there's someone that is not a fan of the teleporters, and uh that's Samuel L. Jackson, which is ironic because Mace Wind is chasing Anakin uh like three years after that movie.

SPEAKER_02

Uh anyways, um That's a good cast, that's funny.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. So but Samuel L. Jackson has bleach blonde hair in this, but like a buzz cut.

SPEAKER_02

Oh.

SPEAKER_04

It's interesting.

SPEAKER_02

Sounds like a fever dream.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Um and uh, you know, chaos ensues and they they they teleport all over the place, and uh I don't know why. I just found it amusing. I thought it was fun. If there was one if you were to, you know, ask me, like, oh, what would be one superpower if you could have one superpower? It's teleporting. For sure, it's teleporting.

SPEAKER_02

You're not even gonna take flying for fun?

SPEAKER_04

No. I just want to be in a plane. I like planes. I'd rather just commute to work. No thanks. All right, lunch break in Paris, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Would it would it be nice to just be there instantly because flying still takes time? Yes, but flying is cool as fuck.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, for sure. Invisibility is cool, telekinesis is cool, you know. I don't telepathy is cool too. I don't really want to be able to read people's minds. No. Because they'd be out there thinking some things that I don't think I want to know.

SPEAKER_02

And at the same time, it'd be nice to be like, oh, you thought that? I'm gonna stay away from you.

SPEAKER_04

100%. I just feel like I would end up having no friends because I'd realize all the horrible things they think about me that they don't say to my face.

SPEAKER_02

Or you'll just get really good with grace.

SPEAKER_04

Yep. Anyways, jumper. You should watch it. It's a good time. Maybe we'll watch it tonight. Anyways, guilty pleasures.

SPEAKER_02

Um for movies?

SPEAKER_04

Or whatever you got.

SPEAKER_02

The one that I was like, I think I have talked about this before. I'm sure I have is Twilight.

SPEAKER_04

I assumed that would be.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Where I'm like, I know they're like not great movies, but I have a good time.

SPEAKER_04

It's a cult classic, more of a good movie. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's where I was like, I'm pretty sure we already talked about this. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, 100%. But yes, it's not a good movie that you enjoy.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

It is an objectively poorly made movie.

SPEAKER_02

Especially the first one.

SPEAKER_04

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

So good.

SPEAKER_04

Terrible writing.

SPEAKER_02

So good.

SPEAKER_04

Not the best acting.

SPEAKER_02

Had so much fun. Really cheap effects. Really, really solid. I can't throw a baseball any other way.

unknown

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

I can't.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

It like feels weird to not like kick my fucking leg in the air.

SPEAKER_04

It's so bad.

SPEAKER_02

So much fun.

SPEAKER_04

As is my next film.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, Lord in heaven.

SPEAKER_04

It's a film starring Toby Maguire as Spider-Man in Spider-Man 3. That movie gets so much hate. Yes, that part specifically. And I think it's fun. I think it's fun. Oh, it's so good. It's fun. Are you kidding me? Why does that get so much hate? Sam Man's fun in there. Like, like, I what is so bad about that movie?

SPEAKER_02

I don't think I've seen that movie since I was like six years old.

SPEAKER_04

You got the Venom, OG venom.

SPEAKER_02

That's crazy. You know? Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I was just like, You got the new goblin, Harry's back. I mean, like, it's a good time.

SPEAKER_02

Had a good time. What's wrong with that?

SPEAKER_04

I mean, having a great two are better, but that doesn't mean that the third one's bad. You know? Like, I don't know why everyone hates it so much.

SPEAKER_02

Also, You're saying third place needs a place?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. It's not like it's seventh place in a category of three, but that's how people treat it. I also want to say that about the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies, even though it's not on my list. I actually think those movies are all solid. The first one is obviously the best, but like the other two Jurassic Parks, like Lost World is really good, and three is fun, and the Jurassic World movies are a good time. Maybe that's just because I like dinosaurs. I don't know. But I'm a little bit of a nerd, you might say.

SPEAKER_02

I like I have I've only seen the newer Jurassic Park movies.

SPEAKER_04

You have not seen the original 1993 Steven Spielberg's masterpiece.

SPEAKER_02

No, I haven't.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I figured out what we're watching tonight.

SPEAKER_02

Fuck yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I just watched it two weeks ago. Really? Well, yeah, on the plane. True Orlando.

SPEAKER_02

Who I was talking to earlier, that they were like, yeah, Jurassic Park is both like my guilty pleasure and like my favorite movie.

SPEAKER_04

It's a good movie. The craziest thing about that original Jurassic Park, the craziest thing to me, one, the effects kind of hold up to this day, which is crazy. 23 years ago. Also, Steven Spielberg made that movie and made Schindler's List at the same time.

SPEAKER_02

Oh god.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know what?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Tangent. You know what special effects I'm like, absolutely I know, it's fine. These are way more entertaining.

SPEAKER_03

It's true.

SPEAKER_02

Um, what special effects I'm like that holds up to this day. Lord of the Rings. Pirates of the Caribbean.

SPEAKER_04

I was about to say that one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

The OG pirates with the skeletons and stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, but the OG one and then. I was like Davy Jones' beard. He still looks good. So good.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know if I've seen a CG character look better than that, even to this day.

SPEAKER_02

When Calypso is like a giant, giant lady.

SPEAKER_04

And she turns into the crabs.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. And they were like, this is a bunch of things.

SPEAKER_04

That's what happens. That's what happens when you let CG artists spend the time it takes to make good effects.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, fuck AI.

SPEAKER_04

Now, well that too. Now they just churn things out, and these artists have no time to really get this. They're like, nope, we gotta get the movie out, gotta get the movie out. They spent years on those effects. So good. Years.

SPEAKER_02

It was so good, dude.

SPEAKER_04

Smeagol in Lord of the Rings still looks phenomenal. From 1999 when they started making that movie.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. You gotta make sure that lasts. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And sure, some of the rendering has gotten better. Yes. Avatar looks awesome. But they spend years on Avatar. That's why it looks so good. If they only spent a year on Avatar, it would not look like that. I promise. Anyways. Solid. Another tangent over of it. Guilty Pleasures shows. You got any more movies? I do not have any more movies. I have that I can think of right now. One of them is probably my guilty pleasure, but not everyone else thinks that. Go for it. Oh, you want me to go again?

SPEAKER_02

You're gonna see the rest of the movies before we go to shows.

SPEAKER_04

I just don't have any shows. Um okay, so probably most people think that this is an objectively good movie. I don't like comedy movies very much. But the hangover is an exception. And I understand no one's ever making that movie today. That's never getting made.

SPEAKER_02

That's not where I expected at all. Actually, I'm very wow.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. I think The Hangover's a good time.

SPEAKER_02

Didn't you say that you've like never seen Stepbrothers all the way through?

SPEAKER_04

That's true.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I wow, and you've seen The Hangover, and it's a guilty plus.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, I've seen all three of the hangovers.

SPEAKER_02

Damn!

SPEAKER_04

But to be fair, I watched the second one. That's a completely different now.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna say it every single time.

SPEAKER_04

Listen, all of my friends in high school tried to get me to watch it, friends in college tried to get me to watch it.

SPEAKER_02

I'm a friend from college.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but I wasn't talking about you. You didn't know that about this until about nine weeks ago. It's people have been trying to get me to watch that show for a long time. I'll continue to disappoint. Uh the hangover is really funny. And it's ridiculous. And it's incredibly offensive in the best late 2000s way. Jesus Christ. Uh what is that? Todd Phillips did that movie, right? It's the same guy that did the Joker. Yep. And then Lauren Scherz shot that. Yep. Yep. Same guy that shot the Joker. Good times. Good job, Todd. That's a good movie. It's ridiculous and stupid. But it's a good movie. Zach Galifanakis, man. I mean, you got Bradley Cooper in there. It's a good time. It's so dumb. It's so dumb. But I think it's funny. It's a pleasurable time that I feel guilty about.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

There you go.

SPEAKER_02

Good. What's your last movie?

SPEAKER_04

My last movie is a 2014 film starring Aaron Paul. It's called Need for Speed. You've seen that one? Well, you ever heard of the video games Need for Speed? I think so. Yeah, they're car games, and it's a car movie where they just race cars and it's a pretty poorly written movie. It's so cliche.

SPEAKER_02

Sorry, I could see it was like a nine-year-old boy.

SPEAKER_04

Try 16, but yeah.

SPEAKER_02

No, I'm seeing you right now as a nine-year-old boy.

SPEAKER_04

That doesn't it's fair. That fits. Um, yeah, I like cars. Cars go vroom and they go real vrooming in this movie. Uh I don't know why it's so hated. It's actually a pretty solid racing movie. It's a pretty solid action movie. They filmed um, apparently they made like stock frames of cars, uh, a bunch of different cars to film the race sequences, and then they just put the body of whatever car it was supposed to be on top of it, like a like a 3D printed version, instead of actually like going and spending millions and millions of dollars and hundreds of millions on insurance for these crazy exotic cars. They just were like, we're gonna build basically go-karts with the frame of a car, and then put the body to make it look like you're driving you know, a Lamborghini or whatever. And then they could just strap cameras to it or do whatever they needed to do. Anyways, it there's some really fun car chases in there, there's some crazy stunts in there. It is it's it's it's a good time. Good job, Aaron Paul. And that's like one of the first things he did after breaking bad, actually.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, this was after breaking bad.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it was 2014, so it would have been after breaking bad.

SPEAKER_02

Solid.

SPEAKER_04

Anyways, those are my uh guilty pleasure movies. Guilty pleasure shows.

SPEAKER_02

Number one.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. I don't feel like that's really all that bad of a enjoy rewatch it. It's pretty cheesy. I've seen it before. I never really enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_02

Glee is a guilty pleasure, it is popular because it so is Twilight. Great singing, great singing, no doubt, absolutely phenomenal singing from from everyone in the cast, really. Yeah, I'm not saying like no one is a bad singer, yeah. Um and then and then there's like Amber Riley, where I'm like, you are phenomenal, yeah, you are outstuping.

SPEAKER_04

Neil Patrick Harris guest on that show and sing Dream On and it's yeah, and it's really good.

SPEAKER_02

They hit the notes, they're real, it's really good.

SPEAKER_04

Um Neil Patrick Harris is so talented.

SPEAKER_01

He's so good. What a dad. Yes, what a sweetheart.

SPEAKER_04

Still can't believe I ran into him at the airport.

SPEAKER_02

Chris Colfer, I uh I hope you showed up every bitch that ever said that you can't do it because that man beautiful singing. Absolutely love it. And you know Leah Michelle.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. You can't not mention Leah Michelle.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Leah Michelle.

SPEAKER_04

She she does have a voice.

SPEAKER_02

She does sing. She can sing. Oh, she can. I don't know if she can read, but she can sing. I that is the funniest thing on the internet to me. We're like, have you seen that before?

SPEAKER_04

Oh, I am well aware of what you're talking about.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. I don't know what you I don't know what's on your FYP.

SPEAKER_04

The ex was very into uh Leah Michelle back in the day. My ex-girlfriend.

SPEAKER_02

Really?

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's funny.

SPEAKER_04

Massively into Leah Michelle.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I and Glee. In my head, I was like, I know that she loves Kelly Clarkson.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that too. More more Kelly Clarkson. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Obsessed with Leah Michelle back in the day.

SPEAKER_02

That's really funny.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I love it.

SPEAKER_04

Anyways. Right. Glee is a show.

SPEAKER_02

Is a show.

SPEAKER_04

You know. Um, yeah, not really my cup of tea, but yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I I always even like I always loved it growing up. I'd always get really like excited. I really recorded it all.

SPEAKER_04

My family all watched it every week, every week, like including my dad and mom. Like they all watched Glee. That when I'm going to bed now.

SPEAKER_02

When I like need to cry, um, I watched I watched the memorial episode. I'm happy. For for many the the glee curse is a phenomenon. I cannot wrap my head around. It's kind of yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't understand. Um Beyond Glee. It's I I it it it I can't Riverdale. Oh god. I don't know where it went. I don't know where the plot had gone, but I did watch it I think until like season four.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

That's pretty deep.

SPEAKER_02

It was I had to know where this was going.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, because I was like, yeah, like the Yeah, I did. The first season made sense. The second season was kind of making sense. The third season was kind of losing me, but we were getting gay and I was into that. And then we hit the fourth season, and I was like, ah okay. And then I uh I I just kinda it just didn't come back for more it phased out after that, but hey, that happens, it's okay. It gave us Lily Reinhardt, and I'm okay with that. I'm okay with that. There's a like recently, I I I don't know like what interview she did. I saw it like on Instagram as like a post that she said um that she was like, I would never talk shit on what got me to where I am now. And she was talking about forbidden fruits, and forbidden fruit she fucking ate down.

SPEAKER_04

So ah there you go.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that was great. That was giving Cheryl Cheryl Blossom for sure.

SPEAKER_04

Um Forbidden Fruits just keeps coming up on this show.

SPEAKER_02

Only like twice. Relax. Relax. It's only because we did that entire cult classic episode that you've heard it a lot. Yes, we did.

SPEAKER_04

Because I had to. Can't escape the fruits.

SPEAKER_02

No, we can't. It's forbidden. And you ate it, and now I'm this.

SPEAKER_04

Here we are.

SPEAKER_02

Here we are. Here we are. I'm now a different person. You know, you've gotten fruits.

SPEAKER_04

Your referencing of Riverdale did make me think of a show that I watched way too many seasons of, considering myself.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Uh One Tree Hill.

SPEAKER_02

Really?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I've never seen.

SPEAKER_04

You know what it is, though, right?

SPEAKER_02

I think so.

SPEAKER_04

Michael Murray. It's like a 2000s like high school drama. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, but they play basketball in the first season, so that's why I started watching.

SPEAKER_00

That's why you watched it.

SPEAKER_04

And one of the girls I had a crush on in high school loved it, so I watched it for.

SPEAKER_02

And you that's all it's nice. Kept watching it. Appreciate it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. I watched like five or six seasons of it, though. There's a lot of seasons of that show. I don't remember how many. It kept going. Oh my god. I don't I wouldn't call that a guilty pleasure because I only saw it the one time and I don't know if I enjoyed it, but I kept watching it. And then my little sister Sydney is big into that show. Definitely guilty pleasure for her. She has like merch from that show. Anyways, uh, you got any more? Or shall we move on to what we've watched?

SPEAKER_02

I was like, I'm I'm sure that there is more. Those are the ones that I thought of first for like guilty pleasure shows.

SPEAKER_04

Fair enough. Alright. Uh, what have you watched since we last talked into microphones?

SPEAKER_02

Um, I watched, I don't know if I said this last week. I'll let you know. Thanks. Did I say that I watched all of ExoKitty or that I was going to?

SPEAKER_04

You said you were going to.

SPEAKER_02

I've watched all of ExoKitty. I was. I I had a good time. Um uh I I think that this is gonna be the last season of it.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and uh it was a good way to wrap it all up, and then I started watching Invincible and then Also what you said you were gonna watch. Yes, I started watching it, and then um when I went to go watch X OKD, which on Netflix, I saw um a promo for something very bad is going to happen. Okay, and somebody on set told me to watch that, and I was like, oh, I I I remember seeing like a trailer for it, like like a YouTube ad trailer for it, and I was like, that's cool, I'll check that out later. I thought that it was a movie, I was wrong, it's a series on Netflix, and so I was like, Yeah. And so I was watching a little bit of Invincible, and then um I remember like I like went to work, came home, and just out of habit, like put on Netflix first and was like, oh, something very bad is going to happen.

SPEAKER_04

Fuck something very bad.

SPEAKER_02

Something really bad is happening. I'm not I'm on episode five right now out of eight episodes.

SPEAKER_01

Things are happening.

SPEAKER_02

Things are happening. Oh my god, fuck. It's I'm having a great time. And it's like I I was texting my friend Juju about this. That I was like, I I have to see this through. I know that there are other things that I'm like, for at least like conversation with like all of like my my content creator friends for like who do like content for for movies and TVs that like with conversations with them, or like I like went over to my friend Dom's house and she was like, I have to watch the new episode of the boys, and I was like, I haven't caught up yet.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah, you that was the other thing you were gonna watch.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I was like, I haven't caught up yet. They're like, okay, I'm gonna stay up until midnight and then watch the show and react to it. And I was like, okay, I'm going to bed. Um but I was like, I can't talk to her about it because I haven't seen it yet. So I was like, I should be watching these shows for at least conversation with them. Right. I have to know what's going on with something very bad is going to happen. And I think that you'll really like it. Okay. And it's also like, uh, I don't I don't know how much more she will come back into. Yes. Okay. I don't know how much more she will come back into it. But as I was watching it, I was like, God, I love haunting it Hill House.

SPEAKER_04

What's the what's the premise?

SPEAKER_02

Hold on.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, sorry.

SPEAKER_00

This is exactly where Victoria Peretti needs to be. And then you get to like episode four, I think it is, and you're like, oh my god, she's the mom.

SPEAKER_04

Spoilers.

SPEAKER_02

A little bit, but like not too much.

SPEAKER_00

Or I was like, you're perfect. Yes, this is I knew it. I knew you had to be in this project because it's so meant for you, babe.

SPEAKER_04

What's the premise?

SPEAKER_02

The premise of the show is that um there is a couple, Nikki and Rachel, and they are getting married. Um, Rachel doesn't really have any family, and so um their wedding was just gonna be Nikki's family. Yeah. And they're they're driving to, she's never met his family. They're driving to his cabin, um, family cabin.

SPEAKER_04

It's giving get out.

SPEAKER_02

A little bit of get out, a little bit of ready or not.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and um the family is just fucking off. And the the acting for being fucking psychotic, phenomenal, like naturally psychotic, like somewhere where like they are not aware, like the character is not aware of how fucking crazy they actually come off. Or like it is so off-putting because it's so like pure and genuine, they believe it. Like, it's fucking good. Um, right. I mean, and so yeah, that's that's kind of it. And there's a family curse, and you love it. That's as much as you get with no spoiler.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, I'll have to watch.

SPEAKER_02

Really good. I think you'll really enjoy.

SPEAKER_04

While you were talking about that, it made me think about our boy Mike Flanagan.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And I was like, what is that man up to?

SPEAKER_02

What is he up to? It's been a minute. Is he did he make it up?

SPEAKER_04

Do you know what he's doing?

SPEAKER_02

Did he make it? Did he make it? Did he make it?

SPEAKER_04

Did he make what?

SPEAKER_02

I didn't look up who made something very better.

SPEAKER_04

He's currently working on an adaptation of Carrie. Eight episode series expected.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, a series! That's gonna be fucking good.

SPEAKER_04

Amazon. Oh, it's on Amazon. He's amazing.

SPEAKER_02

That means that's gonna have a really big gore budget.

SPEAKER_04

Interesting. Oh, he's also working on the mist. Oh my gosh. And he's also also working on an Exorcist reboot.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, Mike.

SPEAKER_04

I'm I in Mike We Trust.

SPEAKER_02

That's so true, we do.

SPEAKER_04

Honestly.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but he hasn't missed really yet. Leaving Netflix.

SPEAKER_04

Leaving Netflix for Amazon. Amazon do have a lot of money. So does Netflix though.

SPEAKER_02

But the gore budget on Amazon is high. It's high. It's high. It's high.

SPEAKER_04

Carrie needs a little gore, so that's that's gonna be good.

SPEAKER_02

Because I was thinking, I was like, okay, like another Carrie movie. I was like, okay, that'll be cool, that'll be fun. A series.

SPEAKER_04

That's good. Take your time, Mike. That's good. You know, he edits all his own stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Love him.

SPEAKER_04

Mike.

SPEAKER_02

Another directory.

SPEAKER_04

Let's work together, but I'm a director and editor, so you kind of got that covered.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you know, some people play there. Sometimes you could have two people playing the piano.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. For sure. One's a ghost. Um, when it's Mike.

SPEAKER_02

I was like, no, have you never seen someone do that? Have you seen how white I am?

SPEAKER_04

Walked into that one. Anyways, that's it for this week, I believe. You didn't say what you watched. Oh, yeah. It's not it for this week. I watched a Netflix film that came out last year starring uh Russell Crowe and Rami Malik. Uh Nuremberg. It's uh World War II courtroom drama about the uh Nuremberg trials. If you don't know what that is, it's the trials of the Nazi war criminals after World War II. So uh Russell Crowe. I don't know how his name um uh what the heck is his name? Hermann Gring, which is the second to Hitler. Um and he's he's pretty damn good in it. And Remy Malik plays uh a real character who's a psychiatrist that was uh spent time with all the Nazis, like trying to analyze them and psychoanalyze them um as they were in prison awaiting the trial, and then the setting up of the trial, and the actual trial itself, and then there was some pretty horrific uh you know concentration camp footage in the trials that was unpleasant to watch, but that was kind of the point. Um there's some there's some good acting from Remy Malik and Russell Crowe in there. Their dynamic is by far the best. I would say the writing is pretty poor, and it definitely feels like a Netflix um trying to spoon feed you the plot, uh constantly reminding us of Exposition, which is my newest pet peeve when it comes to making movies, because they're making uh scripts for people that they know are gonna be on their phones half the time while watching films, so they have to continually restate the plot. But when you ignore that, uh the rest of it was pretty well done. Uh some good action sequences, well, action, some good tense moments, some fun cat and mouse, some I I like a little uh courtroom drama. Um and yeah, it was it was well done overall. I'd say like seven and a seven, seven and a half out of ten.

SPEAKER_01

Solid.

SPEAKER_04

Solid watch. Probably won't watch it again anytime soon, but you never know. I'll give her a look-see. I have thought about it since finishing it, which is a good sign usually. Yeah. If I just totally forget about a movie after I finish watching it, probably not a good sign.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But I did, I was like, oh, you know, that scene was good, you know. There was some Remy Malik's eyes, they like when he gets angry in his scenes, like his he's got very powerful eyes, so and he knows what to do with them.

SPEAKER_02

So that was sexual.

SPEAKER_04

Wasn't meant to be, but sure it was. Anyways.

SPEAKER_01

Kinky. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And Russell Crowe plays a convincing, um uh terrible person.

SPEAKER_02

Nice.

SPEAKER_04

Apparently he wasn't very fun on set either, uh, in that role. He was going a little method of.

SPEAKER_02

I was like, you see, like method acting.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I guess.

SPEAKER_04

A little method, but I don't know that for sure. But that's what I read while I was looking up the film. Yeah. Anyways, um we're filming this on a Sunday afternoon, so there's no euphoria talk on this week's episode. We will be watching it tonight tonight together.

SPEAKER_02

So when you're like, we're watching Jumpers tonight, and I was like, no, we're not.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I mean, we're gonna get back and have like five hours to kill, so we could watch something. Jurassic Park will probably be what we watch, though. Um anyways, uh yeah, so you'll get probably two Euphoria episodes next episode that we'll probably review. Because it'll be this week and next week's episode, if I had to guess. This will be coming out, unless we record next weekend. I don't know, we'll see.

SPEAKER_02

We'll see, we'll find out.

SPEAKER_04

We'll definitely get at least tonight's episode reviewed on the next podcast.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Apologies if you were looking forward to that. Um, anyways, I think that's it as far as what I got to talk about. We good? All right, you know where to find us, shot on film podcast on YouTube and Apple Podcasts. Keep downloading and uh give us a subscription or a like if you're watching the content. That helps us know there's other human beings out there that we're making this for, other than just ourselves, but we're gonna keep making it even for ourselves.

SPEAKER_02

So that's it.

SPEAKER_04

We'll see you next time.

SPEAKER_02

That's a wrap.
