Can your thoughts, stress, and emotions really affect your hormones and physical health?

Absolutely. Research continues to show that chronic stress, emotional health, nervous system regulation, and mindset influence inflammation, hormone balance, sleep, metabolism, immune function, gut health, and even the way we age. When you care for both your mind and body, you create the foundation for lifelong health and vitality.

What if improving your health wasn't just about eating better or exercising more?

What if one of the most powerful tools for healing was learning how to reconnect your mind and body?

Recorded live during the Re-Fire Women's Wellness Workshop at Barons Creek Vineyard, this special episode of The Ageless Woman Podcast explores why true wellness begins long before symptoms appear.

Dr. Cindy Grow shares the science behind the mind-body connection, stress physiology, and how your thoughts, emotions, relationships, purpose, and daily habits influence your hormones, metabolism, immune system, and overall healthspan.

You'll discover why simply treating symptoms isn't enough—and why creating lasting vitality requires caring for the whole person.

Because when your mind and body begin working together, everything changes.

In this episode:

• Why the mind-body connection is essential for women's health after 40
• How chronic stress changes hormones, metabolism, and inflammation
• The connection between the brain, gut, immune system, and longevity

Welcome to the Ageless Women Podcast, where modern science meets timeless self-care for limitless vitality. I'm Dr. Cindy Grow, a board certified nurse practitioner and the founder of My Venus Club. This is a space for women who are ready to understand what's actually happening in their bodies and finally get real answers. If you've been told your labs are normal that this is just a part of aging, or that you just need to try harder, and if you've sat through those 15-minute appointments, left with just another prescription to manage symptoms, or maybe feel like you've lost a part of yourself, you're in the right place. Before we begin, just a quick note this podcast is for educational and informational purposes only and is not intended to replace personalized medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult with your healthcare provider regarding your individual health needs. Here we go deeper. We connect the dots between your hormones, your metabolism, your genetics, and your lifestyle so you can stop guessing and start feeling like yourself again. So let's get started. Okay, well, thank you guys. Thank you everyone for being here on a Sunday afternoon. I know it's difficult, especially take time for yourself. As women, we're so often time prioritizing so many things except ourselves, like family, community, our responsibilities. So this is truly an honor to have you all here. But today it's all about you. So that's really important. Um, so today's the day to enjoy and refire yourself. So Tammy's going to tell us all about that. In about over, gosh, over the last 20 years, I worked with so many women. And one of the things I've noticed, the most healthiest women aren't the ones with the perfect lab work, they're the ones that are really connected to themselves, mind and body. And that's difficult to do. It really is. It takes a conscious effort. So when we connect with our mind and our body, that's really what helps us truly improve and optimize our vitality. And so when I say that, I think about think about your body and think about your mind. And we think about the the separate, those are two separate systems, but they're really not. They're always constantly communicating, constantly influencing one another. So when you have an unhealthy thought, when you have an unhealthy relationship, um, when you have chronic stress, all of those things influence how your mind and how your body react. They don't work separately, they always are communicating and working in concert. So if you think about stress, stress impacts your adrenals, which impact cortisol. Cortisol impacts your metabolic system and increases your blood sugar. Blood sugar increases inflammation. Inflammation impacts your cellular health, your brain health, your gut health, your metabolism. It affects everything, your genetics, your epigenetics, how your body influences your how your genes are expressed through all of those influences in the environment. And it's critical because we can't achieve optimal health if we have an unhealthy mind. It it truly impacts our body. Science has told us now what we've been thinking about for years, our mind-body connection is a real thing. Through the vagus nerve, what happens in our gut is constantly sending signals to our brain, impacting our serotonin, dopamine, all of our neurotransmitters. So that's why today's conversation is so critically important because it's really going to help us bring it together and really help to understand how to connect with our mind and body. What is our purpose? Why are we here? What makes us happy? What makes us on fire? So nobody other than Tammy, Vincent Hall, is better at doing this, really helping you connect with yourself, find what your purpose is, find what your authentic self is. She has an amazing way of helping women connect and find that. Really connect with yourselves and find what is your purpose and why are you here. So please help me give a warm welcome to Tammy.

Hi, everyone. Thank you so much for coming out on this rainy Sunday and this beautiful wine bar. So, anyway, um, first off, I want to thank uh Cindy. Um, when she first found out about this work I was doing in transformational coaching and in just overall personal growth, uh, she reached out to me immediately and she goes, I want this to be part of my practice. I want all my patients to have this. She's one of the true practitioners that I know that truly incorporates overall, she knows the importance of healthy thoughts and a healthy mind and how that contributes to your overall well-being. And I know this because I've been in medical sales for over 30 years, and I have covered this entire state during that time frame in one way or another. My space is really functional medicine, so you would think more doctors would incorporate this type of these types of principles in their practice, but quite honestly, they don't. I've only met one other doctor, and she's in Miami that has incorporated this type of medicine, the connection between mind and body. So kudos to Dr. Cindy Grow. And um, I think we are all just so fortunate to have her right here in Ocala, Florida. So, anyway, I'm excited to be here today. Um, so I want to give you guys a little bit of information about the Clarity Catalyst course. So the course was actually developed by Dr. Michael Ray in 1979. It was part of the Stanford School of Business, their medical, their master's program. And he offered it to the students to really help them tap into their authenticity, their true selves, to help them discover their own passion, um, try to get out of that linear way of thinking. And he used it through mindful practices and through emotional intelligence. So the students left there saying it was the most impactful course they've ever taken. So it's been 45 years since the course was launched, and still to this day, it's one of the most, um, probably one of the most impressive courses ever to come out of Stanford. What really got me is that once the course was launched, they offered it to over 400 women that had lost their lives in the 9-11 tragedy. And they helped they offered the course to help these women find hope, to find resiliency, to find purpose again. Because we can only imagine the thoughts that were going through their heads. So after taking the course, these women became entrepreneurs, they became authors, they became artists, they found a way to move on with their life and to find purpose again. So since then, um, the course has been the many people, over a hundred thousand people, have found great purpose and have enjoyed the course, over a hundred thousand people, and then it's been taught in 10 different countries and 10 different languages. So I say all this, let you guys know that you have not wasted your Sunday afternoon to come here. You're gonna leave with some great information. So, anyway, let's move on. Um, so what I've done is I've pulled some great tools from the class. Um, there's over 60 tools that are taught. Obviously, we're not gonna do that for sake of time. We're gonna go through three different tools that I'm confident you'll you'll leave here and you'll like, wow, these were very important. I could see, I see ways I can incorporate these into my life. So I hope that you leave here today with something that you can kind of weave into your life throughout the week and then maybe think about expanding on and taking the course. So let me tell you a little bit how about how I found the Clarity Catalyst course. So um in January, I went on a women's retreat to Arizona. Um, the other doctor that I mentioned that's in Miami, she had shown me this video of her going on a women's retreat. And these women looked empowered. They looked like they were having a blast. They were in Milan, Italy, and they were doing, they were walking the runway. A dress was made for each woman. Obviously, it's way out of your comfort zone. They had to learn how to walk the runway, but every one of them just exuded confidence. So I'm watching this video and I'm like, I want to do that. And so about a month later, she calls me and she goes, Okay, the next retreat is in the Grand Canyon. So I'm like, I've never been to the Grand Canyon. I want to go to the Grand Canyon. So I embarked on a trip to the Grand Canyon and hiked the Grand Canyon. We went to Peage, Arizona, made some great friends. I knew one person there, and I was a little bit anxious, um, to say the least, um, but left there with just so empowered by all the women that were there. Um, and so one night we all go out to dinner, and I don't think it was by chance, I think it was by divine intervention, that I am seated next to the lead trainer for Clarity Catalyst. Her name's Jennifer Grace. So she's been teaching this course for over 18 years. And she sits across the table from me and she's like, So, Tammy, what are you, what are you doing now? And I'm like, So I tell her what I'm doing. She goes, Well, do you want to keep doing that? I'm like, okay, the branded, I was at the point, I'm the point in my life where I can retire. I've done well, I could retire comfortably, but it just wasn't what I wanted to. I felt like I still had something else to do or give. And so she's like, Well, Tammy, what what lights you up? What makes you excited? So then my mind's like really spinning because I hadn't, as women, like Cindy just said, we don't take time to think about ourselves. So I sat there and I was like, she could tell my mind was just spinning. And so she goes, tell you what, why don't you take my Clarity Catalyst course? You'll find your answer. And so, and she said it with such conviction. And so I'm sitting there, I'm like, okay, so I'm still in Arizona. I come home and I just couldn't stop thinking about it. So I come home, I enroll in the class. So the class is eight weeks, and at about week four, I'm like, I'm starting to get some real clarity here. Um figure out what my purpose is. I remember we were talking, um, and you're like, what class are you talking about? Patricia and I were talking, she's like, what are you talking about? It sounds amazing. So um, anyway, so I take the class and I'm done with the class, and I'm like, I felt like a little sad. Like, okay, why am I feeling sad? I just thought I had learned so much information, and there's so many women that I think could benefit from what I was learning. So, like I said, I was a point where I could retire. And so I tried to think of like something, what is something fun instead of retire? So that's how I came up with refire. But refire can mean anything. You could refire your health, you could refire your finances, you could refire a relationship. There's so many areas that refire your life can pertain to. I mean, Cindy would be a great person to refire life, you know, with My Venus Club, you know, just refire your health. So anyway, it's just a great way to kind of look at areas of your life that need some attention. So, what we're gonna do today, we're gonna do a couple, three different exercises that were kind of that come from the clarity catalyst course. Hopefully, you can kind of open up and kind of see where you are in your life. All right, so the first one is everybody has a card like this, right? Okay, so what we're gonna do with this card here is called the Wheel of Life. So, what I want everyone to do is we're going to go through and we're going to rate different areas of our life. Key point here is there's no self-judgment. Don't think, oh my gosh, I should be better in this area, and I'm really not, so I'm gonna give myself a higher rating. We want to have true clarity about where we are in our life. Okay, so the first one we're gonna look at is health. So I want you to think about in regards to health. How well is your nutrition? How well is your sleep? How well is your exercise? And maybe just your overall well-being. So a 10 would be it's perfect. It's I can't imagine anything better. One is it's just a hot mess, and five somewhere in the middle. Okay, so think about your health, whatever that means to you, and give yourself a rating in that area. Um, I would just do like a little dot. So, like, say to five, you're gonna put a little dot right here. Oh, of course. All right, so then the next one we're gonna do is your living space. Have you created like a beautiful sanctuary for yourself? Is it are you living in a place where you feel comfortable? Or are there places of your house that are just still a mess and you just haven't gotten to yet? Or maybe there's people in your home that are making your house feel a little uncomfortable. So just kind of put all of that together and again give yourself another rating. So we'll just a dot, yes, a little dot. Like, what do you think it would be like? So, say like here would be a seven, you know, if it's way down here, then it's a one. Okay, the next one we're gonna do is family. So this can be kind of a a loaded question. So we all obviously have people in our lives that we love and adore, and then there's those people that just drive us crazy. We still love them, but they just drive us crazy. Um, so like for me, also for family, like both of my kids, my one, my son lives in Boston, my daughter lives, my daughter lives in Charleston. How often are you connecting with them, FaceTiming them, really reaching out and engaging with them? So, say there's five to seven people in your family, do an average of those people and give yourself a rating in that area. All right, so the next one is career or finances. Finances, sorry, finances. Um, so with finances, rate where how do you feel about your current financial situation, the money that's coming in today? How do you feel about that? Are you feel confident about that? Do you feel just okay, satisfied with that? Or maybe you are not working, you're retired. How do you feel or how confident, comfortable do you feel with what you have in retirement, what you have in savings? Rate that. All right, and the next one is going to be career. So for career, do you wake up excited? Do you feel motivated? Are you inspired on a Monday morning? Or are you more like, oh my gosh, it's Monday, or geez, it's only Wednesday, or I can't wait for Friday. Right where you are when it comes to your career. All right, so the next one is spirituality. So this could be our relationship with God, you know, our relationship with our church, maybe it's meditation. We all kind of know when we're plugged in, just rate where you are in your life in that area. All right, so next moving on is recreation and fun. So what do you do for fun? Are you allowing yourself to have time to have fun? Is that something that you're setting aside time for? Or is it just busy, busy, busy all the time? Um, so say for example, I love to travel, but that's just not really in the cards right now. Meaning travel, get on a plane, and go somewhere. Are you taking a quick trip over to St. Augustine? Are you taking doing nature walks? Are you doing something else to replace that love for travel, filling that void for you? All right, and the last one here is a kind of a leather loaded question, romance. So for those of us that have been married for a while, maybe romance is not as much as it used to be. There's still a lot of love there, but maybe romance is just not there. Um rate yourself there. And maybe if you're not in a relationship, how much how good are you at romancing yourself or just good self-care, self-love? What are you doing to take care of yourself? Yeah, I like yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Which one is it? Because they're different scores. They are very different.

SPEAKER_01

Whichever one's most important to you then.

SPEAKER_03

They are very different scores.

SPEAKER_01

So the purpose of this exercise, and we'll go through it more in just a minute, but really clarity and awareness are really the first steps towards making a change. And Cindy and I were talking about this the other day. We just don't take the time to really look at different areas of our life, like what's working, what's not working, until it becomes five years from now, and we're like, oh crap, this wasn't working five years ago, and guess what? It's still not working. So what identify the areas that are working and what's need some of your some of your attention. So what we're gonna do now is we're gonna kind of just connect the dots. So when you connect the dots, it may be a little bit of a bumpy ride around, but just go ahead and kind of connect the dots. It's just like, you know, so say, for example, you have one wheel out of alignment on your car, it's kind of a bumpy ride, but you're still gonna get there. So we're still gonna get to the end point, but we've got a little bit of a bumpy ride until we have some clarity about what's going on. So now what I want you to do is anything on your sheet that's below a seven, I want you to think about that one. And I want you, we're gonna that's gonna be the area that we want to have the biggest breakthrough for the rest of 2026. So if you don't have anything below a seven, what's an eight? What is the one that's the lowest? So now we're gonna do everybody got that? Okay, perfect. All right, so now what we're gonna do is we're going to come up with a power, you're gonna turn over your page and we're gonna do a powerful intention statement. We're gonna declare it like it's already happened. So it's gonna look something like this. So we're basically it's gonna be I feel this, and then your second blank is going to be your intention. Um, so example, it might be something like, I am grateful that I'm now living my life's purpose. Or I'm overjoyed that I'm now in a healthy, conscious relationship. So think about what you want, or yeah, like what area?

SPEAKER_03

So like needs to be for this.

SPEAKER_01

One of the ones that no, just one. Yeah, just one. Yeah, just think about one that you want to work on because this is your intention statement of anything that you want to work on to have the biggest breakthrough in 2026 for what's left. Or maybe it's like, you know, maybe it's a fitness program, or maybe it's finances, you know. I feel confident that I am now I'm in the position to make more money, or I put the intention out that I will make more money, I will have abundance. Everybody got theirs? What you feel and then what your intention is. Like I feel overjoyed that I am now financially free, or something like that. I feel confident that I am in a job that gives me joy, something along those lines. Or I feel confident I finally found an incredible provider in O'Cala, Florida that's gonna help me get so healthy.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. That's very possible.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so now we're going to move on to another next tool. So the wheel of life really gives us more clarity. So once we have clarity, that's really just the beginning. So the next thing we want to do is ask why, or basically, now what? Now what do I do with all this information? So when you're ready to refi your life, it's not really about changing, it's also about thinking about what you're being called to do, like what's your purpose? So it really is one of my favorite exercises because it really digs deep down and has you ask some really powerful questions. So this is going to be our life purpose, vision, and mission statement. So there should be another one here. And I'm gonna pass around some paper because I want everybody just to write and just pass some paper around. I want everybody to write down some of these uh different areas. So the first one here, think about what are your four most natural ways of being? So, like when you were a kid, um, people would say, Oh my gosh. Cindy, she's so compassionate, she's so loving, she's so caring, she's so curious. What were things that people said about you? Or even to this day, what do people say about you? So think on this list here. See if there's any, if there's something that a quality that you don't see, feel free to add it. Yeah, just write on your piece of paper and then we'll do it on that statement there. So these are qualities that you don't just have for a little while. They're qualities you'll carry into your next job, your next chapter, your next refining, whatever it may be for you. It's interesting when you do this, you don't really rise, really realize some of the qualities that you have because we never think about it. All right, so the next one we're gonna do is you want to choose four roles that you currently play or that you want to play. And choose four of these. So think about you know, sometimes we are and bless you. Sometimes you like you may be like a caregiver, you may be a teacher. You can carry that role into a different position, but maybe you'll show with more passion. You know, you'll be more intentional about what you do. So look at your talents. On this list, I want you to choose six. And these are talents that light you up. Now keep in mind we're all good at things, but think about something that truly just lights you up that you're excited about. Something that you would gladly do even if no one was watching. And if there's something that you don't see on the list, just add it to your list. Okay. So the next one is who do I want to serve? And I want you to choose three. So, like for where I am in my life, success really isn't what I consider the finish line, significance is. So think about something that your heart is just drawn to. Who could benefit from your wisdom, your story, your successes, your experiences? All right, so let's move on to the last one here. Fields of fascination. So again, we're here. You want to choose three. So think about this. What could you do for hours? What could you teach about for hours? What could you read? What could you have a conversation about? What is something that you could just spend time, and time would just go on and you wouldn't even realize it? Okay, everybody good? All right, so now what we're gonna do is we're gonna get this card here and we're gonna start plugging the information in. So we're gonna narrow it down here. So we're gonna look at for the fields of fascination, which was um the last one that you just did. You wanna choose one field of fascination, which is on your list, just circle one. Circle one of the things that you listed on your fields of fascination. And under the group that you'd like to serve in their field of fascination, choose one, then choose one role you'd like to play as it relates to that field of fascination, and then choose two of your most natural ways of being that would just supercharge that role. That was the very first one. That was the first one, right? Then choose two talents that you could use to serve this group of people. So it's easy once you do this card, we're just gonna plug it into this card here, okay? Okay, so the first, you're gonna do your natural ways of being. So it should end up looking something like this. So I am a compassionate, empowering leader whose talents are creating and connecting, serving women in the field of personal growth. Or I'm an authentic and inspiring mentor whose talents are teaching and coaching, serving single mothers in the field of transformation as they rediscover a new life. Does anybody need me to go back and look at Mimi's?

SPEAKER_02

So for the second one, because it says natural way of being, which is the same as the first one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's just it's an extra line in there. So there's a third one?

SPEAKER_02

No, there's just two. Well, no, I've got the that and the and, and then there's like a little wavy water sign on.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's just the same thing. That's your natural way of being, too.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, just we did it the same way. The natural way of being is your first one. Okay, good brain. Yeah, go through the talents are right here. I got it. Oh, okay. So go back to the natural way of being was the first one we did, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and it's like you are compassionate, you're loving. Okay, so we have two things.

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh. Two there. And then the next one. Okay, I got it. I said it's fine. Should be where the star is.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, did everybody get theirs done?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Okay, so what we've just done here is you've just kind of created the foundation for your life. So you've kind of more or less created a vision for what you want your next chapter or your next career, whatever else that whatever that might mean for you. Um, so what I want you guys to not do is go home and put this in a drawer. Really use this to guide you. Um, that's what I did when I did this. I used it, I left it on my desk because I there's a lot you spent a lot of time thinking about this, and it's probably things you haven't thought about. So don't let the next chapter of your life be defined by I should have, I could have, I'm too old, I'm not smart enough, all these things that we say to ourselves because you just realize you can do amazing things. So just remind yourself of that. Um, so the next one we're going to talk about is one of my favorites, which was um tool number three. So this tool is called, it's talking about silencing that voice that keeps us all stuck. So a lot of times when we do these types of exercises, our mind starts going and starts saying, Wow, I could do this, I could do that. That sounds exciting. This sounds exciting. Could I? Could I? Do you think I could do that? And then this voice shows up in our head and it starts telling us like, no, you're kind of it's kind of echoes fear, it echoes self-judgment, it self-doubt. And that's called the voice of judgment. But we all have one. So there's nothing wrong with you, me, any of us here, because we all have that voice of judgment. Sane and I were talking about this the other day when I was sharing this information with her. Like, you know, like, what am I doing being a podcaster? I'm not a Ted Tucker. I'm like, oh my gosh, but you have incredible information to share. You know, for me, it was when I realized this is what I really wanted to do. I'm I'm approaching my 65th birthday. What am I doing? I should just retire and go off into the sunset. It's not what I wanted to do. Um, so it really is an opportunity to really see what that voice is saying to you and not give it power. So that's what we really talk about in the Clarity Catalyst course. Um, so do any of these voices sound familiar to any of you guys? You know, I'm too old, I'm just not qualified. Someone else could do it better. Or who do you think you are? Um, you don't really have any experience in that area. What are you thinking? Um, you'll probably fail. People will judge you, or maybe you're just not ready. These are all things I have said to myself at one point in my life or another, whether I'm changing careers, going through a divorce, being a single mother, or starting something new at the yeah as I approach 65. Um, but so just we all have that. So think about your own life. Have you ever stayed in a job too long? Um, because of that little voice that's in your head? You should just stay here, it's safe. Um, have you ever talked yourself out of a dream? It's too expensive. Yes, you might fail. It's that voice inside of your head, or thought it was too late. It's it's never too late. Um, wondered if there was something more, but then that voice is like, you should just be satisfied. Just stay where you are. Just it's easier there, it's safer, it's more comfortable. Yes. So that voice actually started when we were young. So think about when you were younger. All we want to do when we're young is fit in. We want to feel safe, we want to feel comfortable. So all these little voices start talking to us. If I if I don't say this, then people like me. If I say this, then people like me. If I wear this, then I'm accepted, then I fit in. The problem is we carry that voice with us as we get older, and it keeps us from refiring our lives. So you have to be able to know what that voice is saying and then to silence that voice and so that doesn't keep you from moving forward. So I know, like for myself, when I first embarked on this journey, um, I kept hearing, you're not smart enough, you're you're too old, just be happy where you are. And I'm so confident that I just didn't listen to that voice that I because I wouldn't be here with all of you guys today. Now we also talk about in Clarity Catalyst, there's another voice, one that's wiser, one that encourages you, one that pushes you forward, one that one that reminds you of all that you've accomplished. So we talk about that as well, but I think the voice of judgment um is very loud and clear in a lot of our lives. Um, so we I what I say is don't let that voice of judgment ride in the front seat with you, put it in the back seat and take away their microphone privileges. Just say, I'm not listening to you anymore. I love that. Yeah. So I want all of us to think about what is the one message your voice of judgment has been repeating for years? And the one that you're ready to stop believing. So I want you guys just to jot that down on a piece of paper and just think about what has just been replaying in your mind for too long. Because once you stop believing this voice, you can, it's mission possible. Anything's possible. Um, you can start over, you can move on, you can do whatever you set your mind to. All right, everybody, good? All right. So just as I closed here, I want you guys to know that I'm I'm here. I'm not different from any of you guys. Um, a year ago, if you would have told me I would be doing this, I would say, well, that sounds really nice, but that's probably not gonna happen. Um, but I really took a hard look at my life and what I wanted to do. I would have never thought at my 65th birthday is like in two weeks. Um, I would have never thought at 65 I would be doing this, that I would launch my own website, that I would have been invited to be on a podcast with Dr. Cindy Grow. Um, I mean, there's just so many things that I would have never thought I would have done. Um, but I think once we we start getting clarity and we figure out what our purpose is, everything becomes very clear. Um, you have that clarity and you know where you want to move forward. What are your fields of passion? What's your intention? And what do you want to what changes do you want to make in your life? So I hope all of you have we can leave here today with something that will help you refire your life, re-inspire your life, move forward. Um that's it. So yeah, I want to.
