From rope drop to fire war You know what honestly? We might not even rope drop this time, because today it's an adults-only trip. Here we go. Come on, everybody. Here we go. Welcome back to Here We Go, the Walt Disney World podcast where we talk food, rides, strategies, but today we're gonna get right down and get into something very serious. An adults only trip. And with me today is my lovely wife, the one that makes all these adults' trips, the adult trips, worthwhile.
SPEAKER_01Hey guys. Hello.
SPEAKER_00So hello, real weird. Uh all right. So we're recording today in the pod basement on a Thursday. It's been a busy, busy week. I'm exhausted, but I can't go a week without talking Walt Disney World. So let's get right into it here today. You know, how was your week, babe?
SPEAKER_01Oh man, it was pretty good. I have one more day left, and then we got the weekend together.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I'm looking forward to that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And let's be serious. Like the real thing. Our trip is only like it's a week and three days left. So on one week and three days, we will be taking uh an amazing uh trip to Walt Disney World with just us. It's our honeymoon. So before we get into it and and and talk about you know the the differences, and like you know, there are some advantages to taking an adults-only trip. We've done it once before, and we've gone to Disney now three times together. I've gone a bunch of times, but um uh you know we're we've taken that adults only trip one other time before, but that time it was all like super crammed into one day, four parks one day.
SPEAKER_01So I'm really excited this time to just be able to kind of take our time a little bit, you know, enjoy the things that we had missed on that first trip together.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, a hundred percent. I mean, we did the only adults' trip that we've taken together was a barn burner, four parks one day, over 40 rides, started at a rope drop at Animal Kingdom. We were there by 7 a.m. We ended the day at 9:45 dinner reservation at sci-fi drive-in theater after a couple of trips on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror over at Hollywood Studios. We did it all that day.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I remember we were like running to get to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
SPEAKER_00We took every mode of transportation you could have taken. So we didn't stay on the property that time, and we we ended up taking an Uber from um, we were staying at the Marriott World Center, which, if you're gonna stay off property, put the gorgeous resort. That was a lot of fun. But you know, again, we had to take that Uber in the morning, uh, and then we ended up taking uh an Uber over from Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom. From there, we hopped on the monorail to the ticket and transportation center to get to Ebcot. And from EBCOT, we left out the back door. If you didn't know this, you could leave out through World Showcase over by France by the boardwalk to take it over to Hollywood Studios.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so it was a wild day, but I will always remember it. It was an awesome experience.
SPEAKER_00It was about 33,000 steps, I think we did. Maybe we were gonna say degrees because it was very hot that day. Yeah, no, no, 33,000 degrees that day. It was in June, it was uh, you know, sweltering hot heat, but it was great. We had a we had a really fun time, you know. We didn't really stop to sit down and smell the roses on that trip at all because we couldn't. But now this is our honeymoon, and what we have planned is you know, it's a six-night stay. We've got four days for Park Hopper passes, and we've chose after painstakingly, like now together we've stayed at um Caribbean Beach together. Um, I've stayed at the Polynesian, I've stayed at the contemporary, you know, all these different resorts, art of animation. And so we went through all the resorts and we were trying to be like, what would be super romantic? Right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we wanted to stay at Cornetle Springs, but then we started really thinking about what was important to us, you know, and what and what was important to us on a trip was convenience, and also budget, and budget was important, and budget was important, and then when we looked at it, you know, it was less expensive, and I think that we got more transportation by choosing to stay at Pop Century, so that's where we're staying on this trip. It looks great. There's a king-size bed in the room. Uh the rooms are newly refurbished, so we'll report back.
SPEAKER_01I want to stay in the 80s, I think.
SPEAKER_00I want to request that. Well, I I like the thought process, but I want to be as close to the skyliner as we can because that's where we've scoped it out. I have.
SPEAKER_01And so of course you have.
SPEAKER_00And so staying in the 50s or 60s is closer to the Skyliner. So I mean, we'll see the whole resort. I don't need to be in the 80s. Like, listen, we were both born in the 80s, so cool. But I think staying in the 50s, I think you're closer to the Skyliner. There's a couple of rooms I looked up, of course. I planned. Yeah, it's strategized. You got to because you know, we're staying at this resort because we're right there on the Skyliner. I think the Skyliner is the best transportation on property by far. You can get into Hollywood Studios, you can get to Ebcot, you can go to the boardwalk. There are great resorts on that line as well. So, like the food at Primo Piato, I think is how you say that at Riviera, that might be one of the best quick services, hands down, in all of Walt Disney World resort.
SPEAKER_01I agree.
SPEAKER_00You know, everything that we've had there has been awesome. I've eaten there dozens of times, I think it's phenomenal. So that's the reason why we wanted to stay there. I think that hey, there could be a lot of families there, it could be packed, but how much time are we really gonna stay in the room? We know who we are. Yeah, we are rope drop to fireworks people. That is us, and we are trying to get as many cool experiences, balance out our days, but we want to ride as many rides as we can.
SPEAKER_01Heck yeah.
SPEAKER_00Let me hear it.
SPEAKER_01I'm all I'm all about them rides. I'm all about them rides.
SPEAKER_00That's right. All right, cool. So let's kind of go over what we have planned and um and and just talk about what we're most excited about on this adults-only trip, because it's it's different. If you take the kids, you are definitely trying to accommodate more people. We have four kids between the two of us, three of which would uh have gone and will go to Walt Disney World with us on these trips. Um, you know, the uh we've got kind of teens in the you know, two teens in the middle there, and then our youngest being almost nine years old. And it is it it is hard trying to accommodate them all, but it's amazing bringing kids, you know, to see the Walt Disney World through their eyes. I would never miss a year without taking the kids. But there are things that we have planned here that we would never do, and let's talk about that the first day we get in.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, when we get in, we don't get in till like seven-ish. We're gonna go right to the California Grill.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01So we can catch the fireworks as we eat.
SPEAKER_00Uh we've got a we've got just about an 845 reservation at California Grill to be able to watch the fireworks go off while we're enjoying our meal. Yeah, food looks amazing. Yeah, we and that's something I've never been to California Grill. I have friends that have gone and um they always talk about how amazing it is. So excited to do that. That's something we definitely wouldn't do with the kids, you know. It would be too late to go there to see the fireworks. They would be so picky, it would be a waste of food. Yeah, you know, the boys are always um, you know, chicken tenders and you know, pizza, grilled cheese, yeah, buttered noodles. You know, let's pay$52 for butter buttered noodles, please. You know, and um, so that's it's fun. We'll take that that first night in, we'll be able to see the castle uh over at the contemporary, which is one of my favorite resorts. I love the contemporary, the vibe's always great. You know, we took the kids on that last trip there. Uh we walked from the Magic Kingdom and went over to the Contemporary just for them to pin trade and go into like you know, Contempo Cafe and the little shops there. That's right. Yeah, that was very cool there. Yeah, love it there. So excited to go to that resort. The following day we have um Hollywood Studios planned. Yes, and um, I always look at the crowd calendars, you know, and they go up to 10. It looks like it's gonna be about a two or three that day.
SPEAKER_01So can't wait.
SPEAKER_00Let's go. Um, yeah, we've got Hollywood Studios, nothing crazy booked at Hollywood Studios, yeah, but we have an Olga's cantina. I've never done it before. Uh that's something I wouldn't have taken the kids to. Yeah. Olga's. It's you know, it's a it's a bar. Both of us don't really drink. So, you know, I'll get some mocktails or try some kind of a that's like an experience, yeah. The you know, robot bartenders, and yeah, both of us are Star Wars fans, so I think it'll be a lot of fun. Is there anything else that you're really looking forward to doing there? Let's talk about the ride, like your favorite. What's what are your favorite rides?
SPEAKER_01I mean, Hollywood Tower of Terror. Hate to see me coming.
unknownYeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna go on that thing a lot. And if it's gonna be a slow day, um, yeah, I'm gonna ride that thing so many times. Yeah, and again, we have park hoppers. If we want to go to a different park, you know, we definitely could go to Ebcot at the end of the day if we want to. So uh, you know, it's it's very exciting to be able to take that adults-only trip because our youngest hates the Hollywood terror.
SPEAKER_01So one of us has to like stay off, like hang out with him, go on the um rock and roller coaster usually. Yeah, yeah. So at least this time we'll get to go on it together, sit next to each other. It'll be nice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's it's amazing to be able to go and not try to to bribe him and everything else, because that's what we end up doing. We're like, all right, if you go, you can have these four pins and these snacks and you know, etc. etc. It doesn't even work though. No, and sometimes it'll be like oh man, it's like pulling teeth. So we get to ride the rides that we want to ride. That's another uh, you know, another positive for taking that adults-only trip, yeah, for sure. You know, and it's uh it's it's great not having to accommodate that again. I'm I'm not saying I'm not gonna miss the children because I do feel bad in a way, like, but Disney is not just for kids. I think it's okay. If you want to take that adults-only trip every few years, take that trip because I just know how much fun we're gonna have. Uh the other thing I look forward to there is I like Slinky Dog Dash a real line. Oh, yeah, that's fun. Star at night, yeah, and Star Wars, all the Star Wars stuff. And I I can't go there without going on Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway at least a couple of times. Oh, yeah. I always forget that that is there. And it's I think it's a sleeper. Like that's something I think is totally underrated. Amazing ride. Love it there. And the food's always good. I can't wait to have some Woody's lunchbox.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. Woody's is a great like quick service. We don't we don't even have reservations for that day.
SPEAKER_00Nothing, uh, just Olga's. Like, that's it. So we're just gonna kind of we're gonna kind of go ahead and get that Ronto wrap, you know, have that breakfast Ronto if we want, and then go over to Olga's for a little bit. If we want lunch, we'll do it, we'll go to Woody's lunchbox. And at night we just might wing it. If we want to leave the park and go over to the boardwalk after that and eat somewhere over there, or maybe we finish that park up and we've done enough of those things and we want to leave and go to Epcot, we can. Yeah, so that's kind of like the the cool idea there, and that's the flexibility of it just being you and I. That's the other thing, you know. That's that's a positive of it being an adults-only trip and having park operas. We can do whatever we want. You want to go to Disney Springs on a whim? We could, whatever you want. So that's the first day. The next day, we've got um we've got some things planned. So we're going to Magic Kingdom the following day, and we do have a beacon barrel booked for$11.45. And uh we've got it booked a couple of times on this trip, the beacon barrel, because everybody's been talking it up. We haven't gone. Uh it looks amazing. I love Trader Sam's Grog Grotto, which is over at the Polynesian, which is that tiki bar speakeasy. And now they've got this Pirates of the Caribbean themed bar over at the Beacon Barrel. I cannot wait to go. It looks amazing. You know, you order certain drinks and things happen in there, and you know, it looks like you're outside floating under seven seas, you know? It's yeah, there's an animatronic parrot that's talking the whole time. Yeah, that's gonna be really cool. So we've got that booked, but we also have one of our favorites booked, which is Skipper Canteen. So we've got Skipper Canteen booked for dinner that day, and um Yeah, I've been looking forward to going back there since the last time we went. Yeah, and I of course, I'll talk about it again. I talk about every podcast. I can't wait for these cheeseburger spring rolls. I'm excited to try some new things too. So in the morning, there, um, over at Westward Ho, they've got that candy bacon on a stick that you can get, which is gluten-free. It's like a giant giant piece of bacon. You gotta get it. But they also have that cinnamon pecan cinnamon roll with crushed pecans, caramel, and candied bacon crushed on top of it. That looks amazing. Everybody's saying that this is like the best cinnamon roll in all of Walt Disney World.
SPEAKER_01I'll let you get that if you just let me have a little smell of it.
SPEAKER_00You can have a smell, you can taste some of the sauce on the side. I'll sprinkle caramel and bacon in your mouth. Little pecans. You know, I just think this is gonna be such a fun day. Uh, I can't wait. Rides I can't wait for are babe.
SPEAKER_01Quick, what are your like top five like have to go on rides or shows?
SPEAKER_00In in Magic Kingdom, yeah. Yeah, in Magic Kingdom, this is a tough one. So top five rides or shows at Magic Kingdom. Uh I'm gonna say Pirates of the Caribbean for sure.
SPEAKER_01Is it like your top, or it's just like are you just saying like? Oh yeah, all right.
SPEAKER_00So let me let me let me do it in order. Okay, in order at the bottom. So number five, I am going to say um the carousel of progress. Okay, you just love that one. I love it. We have to do it. I'll put it in the number five. Number four, I am going to say, I gotta have two like attraction type of things, like you know, show type of things. And so it's either gonna be it's a toss-up, but it'll either be, oh god, I'm gonna have to say Mickey's fill harmagic.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00All right. I'm gonna leave the Monsters Inc. laugh floor out of the top five. It's probably number six, all right. Yeah, but then I'm I've got the top three rides, right? Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Tron.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we left Tiannas out of there.
SPEAKER_00And Tiana's gets you know the Tiannis gets left out of there for me recently because I got stuck so many times on it. It is in the top ten for sure. Yeah, top ten for sure, but I probably want to go, I'd probably want to like go on some of these shows there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_00Before I went in Tiana's. And once I go, I know I'll ride Tiannas.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, we're gonna write it.
SPEAKER_00Haunted Mansion is another one, you know, that that it's like in the top 10. There's just so many things to do with the Magic Kingdom. We've got a couple of things booked throughout the week at Magic Kingdom too. We've got a Be Our Guest booked, yeah, which is that's another thing. You know, later on the week, we were gonna do it for a uh a late dinner. It's another thing that I probably wouldn't do if it wasn't just you and I. Yeah, be our guest is one where it's hit or miss, you never know what you're gonna get there. But it is an experience, it can be romantic eating in the Beast Castle. This is our honeymoon, yeah, you know, so we're we'll definitely be doing that.
SPEAKER_01And I definitely do want to get a good spot for both the parade and the fireworks, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And it's just something like it. The kids might not sit through that. Like our kids are a little bit older, so parades aren't their cup of tea. But yeah, I I think that nighttime parade was amazing last time we saw it. That nighttime parade last time was amazing when we saw it, and that uh, you know, the fireworks, just to be able to get a good spot for the fireworks, and then have somebody with an iPad in front of you or a tree in front of you, and we can do that. You know, sometimes you you wait to do the fireworks, and your kids have just about had enough at that time, yeah. Yeah, so um I'm trying to think there's other there's a couple other like little things that I'm looking forward to there too. I I really want to try uh some of the specialty coffees.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there's that like salted caramel cold brew over there and anti-gravities that I want to try. I haven't had that yet, so I want definitely try that. Yeah, that looks great. And you know, maybe a fruit waffle with a Nutella. That looks good. What about you? What about your five what's your five favorite things? I mean, if it's very similar, we don't have to get into it.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I guess I'll say Tron, Space Mountain, and then my third is like a um, I'll probably have to say pirates. Yeah, pirates, Tianas, and probably the uh probably the haunted mansion.
SPEAKER_00Nice. I like it. Classic ride. Yeah, it's a ride that'll always be there. I love it. I can't I can't wait for that park altogether. Now that the following day, we've got our Ebgot Day, and it is Flower and Garden Festival, and we've talked about all the things that we want to eat. There's so many things there that we're looking forward to eating. You know, over at the Commu Core Plaza, uh, they have the Florida Fresh menu. I want to try those conch fritters and the black and fish slider. Sound really good to me. And I know there's some gluten-free things that you wanted to try. Yeah, the scale-ups with the spring pea risotto. That sounded really good. Yeah, at the farmer's feast, we definitely want to try that. Everything over at Trowel and Trellis looks good. Those uh those ribs looked phenomenal. Uh, there's this like at the springtime uh menu, they had that uh grilled beef strip loin with a tomato risotto. There was the poke bowl.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the poke bowl. I just have to get it without seaweed salad because is that what it is? Yes. Yeah, so it's gluten-free.
SPEAKER_00And then yacht and beach grub. We can't not talk about that. I want the grilled street corn, I want the seafood bake. Um, what else was there? The chips, right? The trio of chips and dip. Yeah, at the yacht.
SPEAKER_01Wasn't that like the yacht club or something?
SPEAKER_00Uh yacht grub. They had the trio of trips and chips and dip, which were whipped feta with candied lemon. There's caramelized onion dip with caviar and pimento cheese dip with pickles. I love dips. I want to get my dip on. And the captain's board there, which is that like charcuterie board that's supposed to be really good. Uh, there's a couple of desserts, like the flans I want to try this year. Maybe this marscapone cheesecake that's like the liquid nitrogen cheese. Yeah, cheesecake looks great. And um, yeah, I mean, I don't want to get too crazy. But then even like the at the Mexico pavilion, I definitely want to try the chiliquiles. They looked really good with the braised beef chiliquiles. Yeah, and they have that obela flan. Grandma's flan. Uh, but yeah, everything looks really good. I I definitely want to try that. Um, at the Isle of Fresca, they have that ceveche as well. So I think those are probably that's a lot, but we might go a couple times. Uh, we'll try to do as many reviews as we can of these as well. So I think that's really a great idea. And just Epcot in general, what are you looking forward to? And and think about from a standpoint of an adults-only trip, this is a park where there's a lot of walking. Yeah, this is a park where there's not a ton of rides once you get into the world showcase. But for me, and uh on an adults-only trip, I think going to like La Cellier, going to La Hacienda de San Yel, like the the Mexican restaurant where you can watch the fireworks at night. Yeah, I'm excited for that. We have reservations. We have reservations for that. We have La Celier reservations later in the week. Later in the week, and early in the week we have uh Shiki Sai, the sushi restaurant reservations. Yeah, so these are things that we probably wouldn't do with the kids, you know? Right, like we wouldn't bring the kids in the La Celier so so they could you know complain about a steak that we paid fifty dollars for, you know. It's yeah, it's tough. Let's talk about your favorite things in this park, though. Like, what are your what are your favorite things?
SPEAKER_01I mean, I definitely love Guardians, Guardians of the Galaxy.
SPEAKER_00It's my my favorite ride, probably. That the Hollywood Tower Terror, then Guardians, then Expedition Everest for me, yeah, all across the board.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I also I love Soren, it's just such a great experience.
SPEAKER_00Test track, like this VORK was a lot of fun. Volume three of Test Track like blew my mind, and you have not been on because it was under refurbishment, uh, Spaceship Earth, which I love. It's the it's the one up in the actual Epcot Globe there. Uh so it'll be a lot of fun to be able to do that together. And and Remy's, yeah, you know, Remy's like a great you know, trackless dark ride. I love it in there, and I we've not tried it under its 2D renovation, it's supposed to be much more clear, and you know, not you don't have to wear those sickening 3D goggles, yeah. But yeah, really looking forward to being able to go to Epcot a couple of times, and that's something you might not do. You might not park hop with kids, A, but B, you might not come to a to go do just festival stuff with the kids a couple times. The only kid that would like that is June. Yeah, the boys would be like, get me out of here, put me on a ride, do something with me. Um, I'm looking forward to just pin trading slowly, calmly through all these parts. Yeah, you know, that when I bring the boys, they're trying to get the pins that I want just to spite me. They're trying to take the pins that I want just to spite me. So, like, it's uh it's a lot, it's gonna be a lot of too much competition for the pins. That's that day. We have uh a full day, and we're gonna finish trying. Trying to go over, and that's the one that we're gonna finish late and then try to go over to the boardwalk and go over to Beaches and Cream and get an ice cream late night. I'm sure we won't need that extra food.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But if we have a little space for it, yeah.
SPEAKER_00We we have fireworks, uh, a firework dinner booked over at La Hacienda uh de San Henel, like over by the lakes. We'll watch the fireworks while we finish eating, not get the flaw in there, not get the trace late. No desserts, though. No desserts, walking off a little bit by leaving and walking up and going to beaches and cream, which I think is a cool, cool move. Uh, the last park day that we have booked, we are going mad. We are waking up and we're going to Animal Kingdom. Now, again, I will say this in this in the current iteration of Animal Kingdom, not a full day park.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But excited to be able to go there, try some Satulli Canteen for breakfast. Looks amazing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Some of their gluten free options look really good at that park.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it looks amazing. They've got the smiling crocodile arapas. Um, I'm I really want to try. I want to try these. Uh, the Brookie ice cream sandwich looks really good. That's the viral ice cream sandwich where it's cookie dough on top, uh brownie on the bottom.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'll I'll get a video video of you being a piggy.
SPEAKER_00The chubby guy eats an ice cream. Uh the uh the other thing that I'm really excited about is going on Expedition Everest, but you've never been on Flight of Passage. So that's we're gonna rope drop, get on that sucker.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I started to watch a reel on Instagram today, and I was like, no, don't ruin it.
SPEAKER_00I can't look at it, don't ruin it. Uh yeah, that's gonna be a lot of fun and being able to ride Expedition Everest a couple times. We'll try to do Kilimanjaro, uh the Kilimanjaro Safari if we can. Yeah, if it's not like super hot and like if it's not too late, but it is amazing. So I'd like to try to give you that. But like we'll get some good food there, definitely get out of there by like 11:30 and then head over um to Ebcot, I think is where we'll go after that, probably. Or just go to Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom stays open until 11 p.m. that day. So I'll try to get as many parks in, but maybe, or maybe we want to go over to Hollywood Studios and ride the Twilight Zone Tower Terror. We're gonna kind of wing what happens in the middle of that day, yeah, and then definitely finish at Magic Kingdom that night, where we have uh dinner reservations at be our guest. We have another late night beacon barrel at 11 o'clock beacon barrel because the park closes at 11. It's like a 10:55 beacon barrel, and that's how we're gonna finish it. We'll go hang on the beacon barrel, have a have a mocktail, right? You know, eat a little bit of a snack in there, and then walk through a park that's not chock full of people, get one more last glance at that castle and say goodbye to the parks. I think that's the way to do it. Yeah, and it should be a lot of fun, it should be romantic, even though we have a ton of stuff booked. But yeah, it it's just you know, going to Disney Springs that following day. And and let's not forget, we have on our on our last day there booked a Topolino's Terrace character breakfast. Yeah, you know, we're giant children. So we'll we'll dine with Mickey and Minnie at Topolino's Terrace, which I think should be a lot of fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I've never never had that, but they say that's like the best breakfast on property. Yeah, and then we have a good breakfast. Yeah, have a good breakfast and then go over later over to Disney Springs. We've never been to Summer House on the Lake. Yeah, we're gonna check that out. We'll have reviews for all of this stuff too. Yes, we're gonna get lots of foot food footage. Food footage, fear, fear, fear, food footage. But we'll have those reviews, and you know, we'll let you guys know how the adults only trip went. You know, you only get one shot at this awesome honeymoon together, and I think we're gonna make it super magical. Well, that's it for us today, honey. How'd you feel with this one?
SPEAKER_01I'm just very excited and talking about it. It's like getting me all pumped up for our trip.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, I'm I'm jacked up. I can't wait to, I can't wait to go. And um, if if you guys have any questions, feel free to reach out to the email addresses there. Make sure that you rate, follow, share. And remember, your next magical vacation to Walt Disney World is only a moment away. Here we go.
