Music has a unique way of touching the heart. A song can bring back a memory, lift our spirits, comfort us in a difficult season, or help us express what words alone cannot. That's one reason music has always been an important part of worship. Through the songs we sing, we celebrate God's goodness, declare his truth, and remind ourselves of his faithfulness. Over the past several weeks, we've been formed by God's Word as we've journeyed through Genesis. Over the next two weeks, while Pastor Eddie is away on a mission trip, several leaders from the Orchard Community Church will guide us through a special formed by the Word series called Louder Than Words. Together we'll explore the scriptures, truths, and personal stories behind some of the worship songs that have shaped our faith and encouraged our walk with Christ. Our prayer is that these devotions will help you listen more carefully to the songs you sing and deepen your appreciation for the God those songs celebrate. So wherever you're listening today, lean in and open your heart. The God who spoke in the beginning is still speaking today. Let's listen together. This is Beth Blaylock. For many of you who don't know me, I'm Pastor Eddy's wife. Ever since I can remember, music has been a part of our life. I grew up with music in our home. All kinds of music. Some we just listened to, some we sang along with, some we danced to, and some we just had fun with. I think the songs that have been most impactful in my life have been worship songs. Whether I'm singing about God or to God. One of my favorites that has real impact and real meaning in my life is I trust in God. It speaks of how I know that Jesus is mine and how he's always with me. It says he'll never fail. You know, I remember not too long ago, my mom was going through a difficult illness. She would say, Beth, I don't like what's happening to me. And I don't understand why God's allowing it to happen. But I know one thing, and then she would quote Proverbs 3, 5, and 6, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path. The song also says that I find rest and peace by submission to God. If I can trust God with my salvation, why do I find it so hard to trust him with my life, the lives of my family, our circumstances, and even my future? Maybe because I'm trying to be the one in control? I think what he's working in me is learning that my trust must be in who he is and not in what he does. Romans 8 tells us that God works all things for our good and his glory. A year ago, our family experienced an accident that turned out to be much worse than what we had thought in the beginning. People all over were praying for our grandson and for complete healing. God did heal. Not exactly what we thought, but even greater. A few months later, I was on my way to church when this song came on the radio. I was singing and praising God, and then it came to me in the part of the song that says, I sought the Lord, and he heard, and he answered. I said out loud, Yes God, we did seek you for healing, and you answered. And in a flash he began speaking to me and opened my eyes. Yes, he gave physical healing, but more importantly, spiritual and family healing. Then he opened my eyes and heart even more to see other prayers that I had been seeking him for for a very long time. He showed me how he was answering them. He had been working even before I began praying, and now I was getting to see what he was doing. He always answers in his time and in his way. I just have to trust him. The song ends with, I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered. That's why I trust Him. That's why I trust in God. Thanks for joining us today.
