Here we go. Hi everyone. Oh my goodness. Hi, Kylie. This is it. This is today. Today is the day that we get to hear if in Access are on that list. Ah, so exciting. I hear that the it's already running in the background. Danielle's got it on her screen. So we'll be able to um, she'll give us a thumbs up when that comes on. So we'll just hear from her later. Um, and we've got John waiting in the wings as well to come on. And I hope that some of you out there are going to come on too. Kylie, we've already got some messages coming from.

SPEAKER_02Okay, so let me just paint the scene at the moment. We've got um we've got um John and we've got um Danielle and a bunch of others watching American Idol over in America, and like um Kylie said, uh Billy Idol has come on straight out the gate um with his guitarist singing Reb Will Yell. So um, shall we see if Danielle can come on and show us a little bit of that?

SPEAKER_02Hey Danielle! Hey Daniel, I'm good. Hi guys, how are y'all today? Yeah, good, thank you. Thank you for setting up your living room to show us what's going on. I know it's gonna be a back and forth. I think we've had a plan A and a plan B and a plan C, but yeah, we we can do this.
SPEAKER_04You know, it's the internet. Every now and then things don't work out as you plan, but it's all the love tonight and all the nerves tonight.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think you had to run out today to get a new computer, and Kylie ran out to get a new microphone, and uh and John went and got into another house. So yeah, it's gonna it's fun.
SPEAKER_04So um, you know, sorry guys if we're not able to kind of see what's going on, but I can I can be your eyes and ears and I can turn things around for you guys. Uh right now we're on commercial break, but Billy Idol just killed it on that intro with uh Carrie Underwood. So all right.
SPEAKER_02So do you think that's like a good chance if he's on the show that he'll be on the list, you think? Really?
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's a good John question for you. But I think he could be standing in the wings waiting, so who knows?

SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's that's that's pretty cool. I don't know if they usually they just kind of list, you know, list them off, and uh, they don't have they don't have an actual uh you know inductee, you know, perform. So that's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02We were just saying then, um beans Billy was actually on the actual show. Then do you think he's likely to be on the list?
SPEAKER_00I mean it would be a bit embarrassing if you I can't imagine he's yeah, and I I think they may have actually said it. I couldn't, I couldn't hear with these these headphones. So I was trying to, I was trying to when you when you were saying it, I was trying to verify it.

SPEAKER_03So it's okay if you're in America and you have to go to bed, surfer girl. I see your comment. I hate to I hate that I can't stay up, but it's 3 a.m. here in the US and I have to get up for work, so that's very understandable, and I'm sure you'll hear all about it. But 3 a.m. in the US. I don't put your mic on.
SPEAKER_02That's not right, is it?
SPEAKER_03Oh, she has to get up at 3 a.m. Okay, that makes sense. That makes sense. The excitement's taking over.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was thinking it's um 3 a.m. in England and Europe at the moment. So um I know there's a lot of people that couldn't make it there. Um so the other good news that we've had is um that in excess this morning at um just one minute past midnight, it was announced that they've got into the Ted Elbert, well, no, they're going to be awarded the Ted Albert Award, which is the highest award, highest award that can ever get in Australia. Um, the ceremony will be on the 29th of um April, down in Sydney. Um, so that would be wonderful. There was a lovely quote from Jenny Morris. I'd like to read it to you, actually. I'll grab that. Yeah, so that was wonderful to hear from Jenny. So we all know who Jenny Morris is, don't we, Kylie? Do you want to make that before?
SPEAKER_03Jenny Morris is an Australian performer, and she sang with NXS for quite some time. Um, oh, there's a lot going on there. Yeah, what are we hearing down? Yeah, so she yeah, an Australian performer, and she actually sang with NXS for quite some time. And um, her and Michael were really good friends. In fact, all the band were good friends with Jenny Morris. Um, yeah, so that's a great comment to hear from um Jenny. Have you got it there to read out, B?
SPEAKER_02I have actually so NXS are truly one of a kind, performing with them in 19 uh in the 1980s at Wembley Stadium, opening for Queen. So she was part of that as well. Yeah, to the listen like thieves, um uh Europe um and America and Latin America. I I saw firsthand the love and adoration um they generated. Yeah, that's right. From their compelling and timeless songwriting to their intoxicating performances, new um few bands have ever left people happily, happily gasping for more the way in excess do. Michael is as much of a presence in our lives today as the day we lost him. And of course, the same goes for the band. The legacy of in XS lives on, they remain as relevant as ever, continue to continuing to inspire new generations and bring that unmistakable Aussie spirit to fans around the world. Well done. Well said, well said, US, well said. Danielle, do we need to bring you back on?

And you guys see me kind of looking back and forth. I'm just monitoring the TV. That's all I'm doing. I don't want to get us in trouble by showing anything live. Don't want to miss anything, but we don't want to miss anything other. So, but I'm lovely loving listening to you guys and uh keep going with those comments. Where are you guys coming in from? SPEAKER_00Yeah, sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so do you want to give us a little bit of um background knowledge? You've been on quite a few podcasts lately and talking about the um induction ceremony and things. So, do you want to just give us what will happen if they are inducted? What what is the process after that?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, if we if we're lucky enough and the band kind of gets in, they'll announce the location of the actual induction ceremony. There's uh tonight, yeah, they'll they'll announce it. Uh it'll it either be on here or it'll be it'll be um put up on the rock call uh website. So it's uh I rumor has it's either gonna be in Cleveland or LA, uh, even though it was just in LA. Um so what'll happen is uh they'll name the nominees, they'll name the performers, they'll have a couple side categories, they'll come up with the entire list, uh, and then they'll announce the location. It'll probably be in November, like I said, either in LA or Cleveland. Um and at that point they'll you know provide over the next couple months information on tickets. Uh tickets probably won't go on sale if it if it if history is a guide until the summer. Um and uh the the key to to set to to that is I think by June 30th, they typically have it. If you're a member of the Rock Hall Museum, um you will actually have access to pre-sale. So if we are lucky enough to make it, it's gonna be really important that we kind of get all that information out to people and when the presale is, uh, you know, what to look for, what to do, uh, because that'll be really important to get it. And if it's in LA, that's a smaller venue. Um, and so it'll be really important to get pre-sale tickets because otherwise uh tickets are gonna be hard, uh hard to come by and probably pretty pricey on the secondary market. So we'll have to get all that information to people.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay. All right, okay. Well, throw in comments if you think you're going to go if we in XS do get inducted, because what we'll do is straight after this, we'll probably start another um Facebook uh messenger for those people that want to um meet up um when we get to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm pretty positive. Kylie, are you positive?
SPEAKER_03I'm positive. I'm not thinking any other way, it has to happen.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, this morning there was a little bit of doubt that came in there, like push that out. I went for a word. We like my t-shirt, by the way. Love your t-shirt. Oh, excited to go. Yeah, so this is from the swing tour, an original um given to me by Tim Farris. So thank you, Tim. Yeah, so it doesn't it only comes out for special occasions, but it fits a treat. So yeah, amazing. I've just got my NXS t-shirt on, and amongst I had to move rooms because yesterday when I was um talking to B, I had a lot of background noise. So I've tucked myself away in a room, closed the doors, and told my husband to stay right away. Are you in the lodge? I'm somewhere very secret.
SPEAKER_02Oh, the naughty cupboard, probably.
SPEAKER_03I'm in the naughty, I'm in the naughty corner for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's good to have you on Hiley. John, have you got your in gone? You John, you got yours on, or is that you you're not batting for a Phil Collins t-shirt, are you?
SPEAKER_00No, it's my rock and roll Hall of Fame shirt. Yeah, so I have to re you know, I have to represent the the Hall of Fame. This is this is what we'll all get, you know, when we go to the ceremony. We'll get I'd show you the back because it actually has the inductees of of the actual ceremony. So yeah, I'm prepping people for the merch that that they're gonna be able to buy at uh at the place.
SPEAKER_02That's right. That's right. Now I can see in the background there's some gold, silver, platinum discs. Come on, what's that all about?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that those are all um I actually have a Billy Idol platinum record, and you see the Gary Beers signed guitar up above. Wow, yeah, that's a that's a Gary Gary Beers uh signed uh guitar. Now, some people some people in the in the fandom gave me a hard time because it's a signed guitar, not a signed bass. But it is it is signed, it is signed by Gary. That's cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it looks amazing over the fireplace there. It looks gorgeous. Well done.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I do I do have I do have a listen like thieves gold record, but it's kind of tucked, it's it's hidden over here with Michael.
SPEAKER_02So yeah. Well, when we when you came over for the bus tour for the um the um the sixth and this was it, the sixth or the fifth anniversary of in access access all areas with Hayden. Hey to Hayden, if you're watching. Um so um yeah, you gave me the banner that Gary had to sell the guitars with. I've got that downstairs, yeah. I'm going to have to do something with that soon. So yeah, maybe we auction that off one day. I'm sure there might be some collectors out there that like it.
SPEAKER_03And I see a oh, sorry.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna say, and also a re rare t-shirt as well. Yeah. Oh wow, that's amazing!
SPEAKER_00Yeah, t-shirt from their very first uh tour. Um and it was a it was a Texas, and that there's actually quite a few pictures of Michael wearing the exact same t-shirt.
SPEAKER_03Yes, yeah, we have a comment here from Don't Change, our favorite NXS tribute band. Uh I presume it's Blair. Hi, Blair. And um, he's saying, Hey team, let's go. And he's feeling very confident.
SPEAKER_02So well, if if you're wearing an NXS t-shirt, Blair, we'll let you one if you want to go. Come on in, come and join us. He's probably in school holidays, though, isn't he? SPEAKER_03Okay, interesting. To the young people, they all love this country thing. Yeah, okay, okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, he's been a he's been a staple figure here in the United States for quite a while, so uh especially here in the South. So just I'm just listening, guys. Like I said, I'm listening to you guys, I'm reading comments, listening to what's going on, taking everything in and relishing the moment because it's been a long time coming for even this nomination. So this this night's really exciting, guys.

I mean, why I let's let's be positive if you know if we do go, we're gonna really rock it out, aren't we, when we get there? So wherever it's going to be. So we are hopefully going to be staying at the same hotel. We'll go out and we'll meet up with some people. LA is what I've got on my mood board behind me, and praying, um, because then we can hopefully meet up with Nick Egan. Um, Nick Egan was uh an amazing guest on our show um in Excess Access All Areas. Um, a friend of Michael's, the creator of the kick album. He also did a couple of the videos, um, everything. Um, and what was it was everything, was it not searching? No, it was searching. Yeah, I think it was. Yeah, searching and um don't lose your head. Yeah, so it would be good to see see Nick, very creative man. Um did you get to see his video that he made um last year? Me, yeah.

SPEAKER_02No, it's very good, it was very well done. And we we were very lucky that the film director came onto the show and talked about it as well. Um, a young um film director from London. Um, it really gave you an insight into um a creative's brain. Anyway, back to in excess. Okay, right, Danielle. What else is happening there?
SPEAKER_04Uh another contestant is about to be performing some Stevie Wonder, another uh inductee. I don't know what year. John may actually know the year, but uh 1989. So he told you he would know it right then and there.

SPEAKER_00See, so you're excited because you you like you you like you just rattled off. There's a lot of people that you know in LA. Cleveland is the best place to see a ceremony. I've seen them in Cleveland, I've seen them in LA, I've seen them in Brooklyn. Um, Cleveland is by far the best, but LA is really good. They that the last year's was just it was just in LA. Uh the Grammy Museum's right there. And if it's the same venue, and I think it's gonna be the same venue, it's downtown LA, LA Live. Um very, very lively place, so it'll it'll be a blast.
SPEAKER_02Well, good night. Not only about the people that we'll be able to see, but there'll be there'll be a lot of um well more Michael um in excess sites. So I'd like to go to Whiskey Go Go on um Sunset Boulevard. I mean they played there, I know they did. Um Michael's Ashes um are at this the serum at the um crematorium there. So we can go and um is it a crematorium serum?
SPEAKER_04In the full field, yeah. Is it the it's uh the ashes, it's actually Forest Lawn Cemetery, so it's a mixture of a cemetery, uh crematorium. So it's a huge kind of like where Michael's memorial was that we visited on the bus tour, so it's an expansive thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I saw I saw in the comments people were asking about a date. The date I've heard is November 14th.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you've got a date as well now, November November 14th in LA.
SPEAKER_02All right, right. Well, I'll be asking for that. I think I'll have to come over for at least two weeks, don't I? 10 days, two weeks. What do you reckon, Kylie?
SPEAKER_03I'm just excited.
SPEAKER_02Should we just go anyway, even if they get don't get inducted? Oh sure, it'd be a nice tour. And then and then we've got Cleveland next year. See, that's how positive um you have to be in life, isn't it? You know, just our holiday for two weeks, two years.
SPEAKER_03I have a really good feeling this is gonna happen. I really do, really do. And you know what people are saying. So, what what song do you think they'll play for an excess?
SPEAKER_02On on uh on on American Idols.
SPEAKER_00No, on American Idol or at the ceremony?
SPEAKER_03On American Idol tonight.
SPEAKER_00I don't I I don't know if they're gonna do they typically mean the fact that Billy Idol sang, typically they don't do songs of the current class, they do like you know, rock and roll hall of famers. So I don't know what I don't know if they're actually gonna end up doing uh songs of the nominees.
SPEAKER_03Blair's telling us that he actually had the pleasure of performing at Whiskey Agogo a number of years ago. Oh, that's pretty cool, and so did the drummer drummer Clay as well. So that's pretty cool. Oh, we love Clay.
SPEAKER_02Hi Clay, if you're watching as well. So so Blair, are you gonna come with us on the plane? Yeah, they get the NXS jet out, uh from the uh don't change hangar.

Uh, they're just uh giving some critiquing on the singing and stuff, but I'm in agreeance, but John, I think the show tonight is primarily past inductees. They're singing their songs, but they're just kind of rolling it into the announcement. So I don't think if we get in tonight, I don't think we're gonna be hearing an NXS song tonight.
SPEAKER_02Hi, Kai. So we'll just hear the name nominations, yeah. Not nomination, but inductees. Oh my goodness, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, all right. I keep having that Michael quote in my in my head today from uh Mystify. It's like he's like anticipation, anxiety attack. That's what I feel.
SPEAKER_02Well, I've got sometimes you kick and sometimes you don't kick happening in my head today, which is pretty apt as well. Um I I've got elegantly wasted.
SPEAKER_03John, what's in your head? Yeah, I said that to Jim. So hopefully Dr. Jim gets on too.

SPEAKER_00I went there, I went there last year just for that purpose. I have pictures, I have pictures of it. That's awesome. It's very close.

SPEAKER_02And the Viper room, is that like still a like can you go in or go past it, or you don't we don't know?
SPEAKER_00No, I did. I'm I'm not a big club person, so I did I did not go to the I went to Belbo Island, but I did not go to the Viper Room.

Um he's just put a thumbs up because I just congratulated him and Kirk this morning um on their um congratulating them on the fact that they're getting the um Ted Elbert Award. So I got a a thank you from him and I got a thank you from Tim and Kirk this morning and um Andrew's wife as well. So hopefully he gets so and I told them that we were all like you know, the sending them all love for today, and we're all rooting that they're gonna get can't say root in Australia, but we say it anyway. Um because what does rooting mean in Australia, Kylie?

SPEAKER_00So they that was all that was legit. That they they're they were they wanted their fans to vote, um, but they're they're alive, they're a live performing act. That that but that was all legit. That was you know, a lot of people were like, oh, it's bots and all that. That was just a lot of really excited fans, and hey, you know, more power to them, right? They they love their band from the 80s and they were behind them and they were rallying the troops, and hey, good for them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and and um Lisa Mack, hey to Lisa. Um, she's a doctor's appointment. And and Linda, they got the QR code from um Paul Jolie and um Craig and Craig, yeah, and they put them up at the um cafe. So what? That's great for doing that. That yeah, really good work. And um, if we don't get in, if they don't get in, not we, um then that's what we all need to be doing.

SPEAKER_03Oh, probably look, I was still in well, early high school. Yeah. Early high school. My bedroom was covered in um NXS, but massive big picture of Michael Hutchins, the signed one. Do you remember that one where he's standing with the just the um white pool towel around his waist? Oh, yeah, you had that on your wall. I didn't it was signed. Wow. So yeah how did you get that signed? Oh, it was it was signed when I bought it. Like this was probably someone gave it to me, mum and dad, maybe. I can't even remember, but my family know. I made my whole family sit through the entire live baby live concert when I first got it on CD. The whole family had to sit and watch it, and I think they were like, Oh, yeah, we've got a live one, like she that I think they think I'm crazy.
SPEAKER_02But anyway, and you must have thought you were gonna marry one of them one day.
SPEAKER_03Well, well, I was pretty damn sure.

Um, and all the videos that Dr. Jim did and all the posting from Shannon and just getting some amazing quotes from some amazing people, and and to Hayden as well. Hayden Murdoch, um, an amazing guy, um what a wealth of knowledge of it in XS taught me so much um about the band. When I first started In Excess Access All Areas six years ago, I said, I don't really know that much, I just love Michael and I love some of the songs. And he's like, Don't worry, I'll I'll teach you. And and he did, so thank you. And um, yeah, it's been a wonderful journey with him for the the at five years of in excess access all areas, and now we've gone a little bit brunched off, and we've started this the Listen Like Fans podcast. And thank you to everybody that have become members um on the Patreon and listened, and to all my guests so far, and Kylie and Danielle and John have also been guests. Pleasure so many, yeah. And this is really unfair at the moment because we want to know. But um, a lot of you are saying, no, we're gonna wait all together and hear it on American Idol, where it's going to be released and and and announced, I should say. But at the moment, we've got a little bit of uh information. John, do you want to tell us the information that you've got so far?

SPEAKER_02Well, um, you can tell us where the venue is.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so yeah, what we know what we do know is that it's gonna be in Los Angeles, it's gonna be November 14th, and it looks like the ceremony is gonna be in the same place it was last year, which was in the LA Live complex at the Peacock Theater. Um, the thing for fans to note, um, it's a small theater, it's a it's a very intimate, so like I want to say 7, 8,000 people, as opposed to when you see it in Cleveland, it's at a 19,000 seat basketball stadium, and same thing in Brooklyn, it's like an 18,000, 19,000 seat basketball stadium there too. So it's a much smaller, much more intimate um venue in in LA.
SPEAKER_02So why do you think they because didn't you say that they usually rotate um the venues? Why do you think they've stayed in LA considering?
SPEAKER_00I don't say it hasn't been in the same city uh two years in a row for I I I couldn't tell you maybe going back to when it was always in New York. Um so I can't say there it looks like they're coming back from uh break right now. I don't know if there's gonna be okay, all right.
SPEAKER_02Ready, ready. Oh, just bring hey B, can't wait for the announcement. John's body language looks like we're in. I know, I know, come on, John. I know, John. No, Peter and Ali Law are um a wonderful couple. They'll probably be at the XP going to see don't change. SPEAKER_00I saw I saw I saw the I saw the post on that though. There was a lot of love for Bono and a lot of non-love for Bono on your post B. I was like, I was surprised it was it was so the the poll, the the the the the the various uh you know polar opposites.
SPEAKER_02I tell you, I'll tell you what though, you know, when he bought his book out and he said some things about Michael about you know, and I think a lot of pan fans didn't like that. And if you read it, it didn't sound right. But did you ever hear him do the audio book, which is quite nice to hear Bono's voice, because he's got that lovely accent, yeah. And when he um narrated it, it actually sounded a lot more sincere than how you read it, just shows you how you can read something and the way interpretation, yeah, exactly. So um, yeah, I'll have to find that recording because it was lovely. Someone did send it to me. Um, but um, yeah, Bono, yeah, I don't know. I'd it'd be n on the side note, wouldn't it be nice if Tiger actually was at the ceremony?
SPEAKER_03That's my that would be the the ultimate to to be in representing Michael, yeah. Uh but yeah, we I I doubt that will ever happen. I doubt uh to see her to see her with the band.
SPEAKER_00So I will I will watch. I will say kind of on that. So when I first went to the rock hall ceremony in 2018, I've told this story to a couple people, but um, and I went as a fan of the cars. I was a diehard fan of the cars. That was the you know, um, and I got it was in Cleveland, I got great seats, so I could actually see down and the way it's it's situated, all the the the floor are all tables that the inductees are that they're all there with their families. And the cars, the the bass player for the cars, Benjamin Orr. He passed away from pancreatic cancer. Um, so the whole band is there. Obviously, Ben is, but his son, Ben, was there is sitting with the band, and he hadn't he hadn't done anything publicly really ever. I think he was like 19 or 20 years old, and it was really cool that he was there, and he didn't come up on stage with him, but they panned to him, you know. Um, and he was very emotional, and it was it was amazing that you know they they brought basically they brought his son because you know his dad couldn't be there. Uh and that was a surprise. I didn't tell you that that was not public that that was gonna happen. Um, but it was a really powerful moment. And I've and I've said this to a lot of people that when you see these ceremonies, you do get, especially in Cleveland, and uh, you know, I know it's not in Cleveland, but you get a lot of just you see, you see the the the bands, you see their entourages, you see their families. People are so happy. This is this is a true lifetime thing, and it's just so awesome to see the joy on all these inductees' faces and their families, and that's you know, just the celebrations when they're up there performing. I can't describe how cool it is. And because I I started going in 2018, and you know, this next one will be my seventh one, and that just it's and and obviously you know you're not you're not, you know, you don't have a a connection with every single band, but it these ceremonies are are just amazing, amazing things to see in person.
SPEAKER_02I watched um some old ones um when um John Lennon got inducted, um, because you get in and both his sons gone. Oh, it was really lovely, and especially to hear Sean, because you don't really hear from Sean, do you? Yeah, it's quite emotional. And then um Soundgarden, um O'Connell, um, what's his first name? SPEAKER_04Okay, we are going to another commercial break. There's two more performers left, and Ryan just announced that he will be announcing the uh class for the uh 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So I think they're gonna drag it out to the last.

SPEAKER_02So yeah, a few people are saying Bono would be ideal, but um, when we we talked about Soundgarden um and Duran Duran, they had actors. Um, and and I I I would think it'd be nice if it was an Australian actor, um, like Nicole Kil Kidman or Hugh Jackman would be my favorite.
SPEAKER_04Um Nicole's mine. Nicole's yours. Yeah, just because I will both. Yeah. Um watching Julia Roberts induct Dave Matthews' band was very cool. Um, Drew Barrymore inducted the go-go's. So I just feel with Nicole saying, you know, her band at 16 was in excess, and going to see him at the pubs. Um, everybody knows, you know, Nicole is Australian. I just feel like those two things go hand in hand, Nicole Kidman and excess.
SPEAKER_03Well, what about Keith Urban? He just did a really good cover of Inex's on his guitar on stage, and he was amazing. He really pulled it off. He's a he's a great guitar player. But definitely can't see both of them.
SPEAKER_04I was gonna say, who gets custody of that?
SPEAKER_00Oh no, keep Keith performed with Andrew in Nashville a year ago, so I I don't I don't know. Keith Keith might have uh the upper hand on that one.

SPEAKER_00I can give people a little some little tidbits. Um so the so there's the performer category, that's what we've all been voting for. You know, that's the one where you know we all get the vote of the 17. The rock all also adds two other categories. They do a um, I think I think it's three. It's early influence, musical excellence, and non-performer. Um, they don't always use all three, and sometimes it's a you know very small number. Um, if the list that I'm seeing here, there is a lot of people in those extra categories that no one has talked about this this nomination season. Um, that are pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02So can you tell us?
SPEAKER_00I thought you didn't want to know. No, they're gonna announce all these on on on American Idol too.

SPEAKER_00It took the cure two years, it took the fashion mode, I think two or three. Um yedle didn't, you know, it's his set his second year. Um not everybody gets in on the for on the the first time they're on, and unfortunately.
SPEAKER_03Maybe the 5 0 next year their 50th anniversary.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's what we did say, didn't we? That it it probably would be that. I suppose the upside is it that we can all save. But Oasis? Oh my god, I shouldn't have predicted. Yeah, yeah. So there's a lot of people that invoked in excess and oasis. So oh jeez. Well, that's disappointing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division, New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Bandros, Wu Tang, and then the other ones were Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, Queen Latifa, MC Light, Graham Parsons, Linda Creed, Arif Morden, I don't know who's uh Jimmy Miller, and then producer Rick Rubin and Ed Sullivan.
SPEAKER_03Can you get the rock haul on the line? We want to talk to them.
SPEAKER_00I don't have that power.
SPEAKER_03Oh, gee.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I want to cry. I'm numb. I'm very numb.
SPEAKER_00So we get in next year, and next year it'll be in Cleveland. And Dr. Jim and I, we we we have a preference for Cleveland anyway. So uh it'll be amazing in Cleveland next year.
SPEAKER_02Okay, let's go. Okay, so let's hope they are nominated, first of all. And if they are nominated next year, we've really gotta up this, guys. You've got to tell bloody everybody out there for I mean, it's I suppose it didn't really matter at the end of the day. We were quite high up on that. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So this the this is it's a true this is this is the twelve hundred person voting body. Uh And I think the the thing you know, and we know we I know we've talked about this a couple times, but this is the first year where the 1200 person voting body had to vote for seven. In the past, it was up to five, and then a couple of years it changed to up to seven up to seven, but people didn't have to vote for the full number. This year, every one of the 1200, in order for their vote to count, had to vote for seven people. Um, and there was a lot of speculation that that because people are going to be for um people didn't know what would actually kind of occur. Um and then this is this is uh this is the class.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so what do we do from now? Do we show our disappointment? Do are we still do we stay humble? Um, do we get angry? I mean, what's what's what's the best way? I mean, I've got lots of emotions going through me right now.
SPEAKER_00The fact that they got nominated is an unbelievable honor. That's not even that nothing, nothing has changed, right? It's not unusual for an artist, unbelievable artist, to not make it on the first the first time they're on. Um, this is actually more than norm. Had they actually gotten in on the you know the the first time they were nominated, um, it would have been unbelievable, but this is actually more than norm. The OASI, this is the Oasis's third time on the ballot. So it I'm saying that Joy Division you order, their third time in the ballot. I had maiden, I think I think two or three times. This is so it's not unusual what we're our bands going through. Um and it's still an unbelievable honor that they've been nominated. And in order to get nominated, somebody had to be in that room and bring them up. And that person will be in the room hopefully next year, and they'll bring them up again and they'll get on the ballot. Um, as fans, though, I think we we did everything that we could, right? We did all the promotion, you know, to kind of remind people how great they were. And I think some of that promotion kind of led to them, hey, somebody took notice and put them up in the room. You know, where that now they're falling short is with that voting body and the vote body, how that how that's influenced. Um, you know, we'll have some time hopefully to to figure out what the fans can do, you know, what and and what you know how how that how that voting body actually gets influenced. Um, hopefully we'll get a shot at that.
SPEAKER_02Uh new edition weren't on that list, were they?
SPEAKER_00New edition did not get in.
SPEAKER_02And yet they got the most votes of the fan vote.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, very similar to last year. Last year, Fish won the fan vote and didn't get in. This year, new edition won the fan vote and didn't get in. You know, Pink was very, very high, didn't get in. Shakiro is very, very high, didn't get in. Um, the fan vote is awesome. It it, you know, I think over nine million votes. Uh, we got all the different fan bases, you know, were ecstatic, you know, voting for their their you know, their their favorite acts, like just like like we were. Um, but that's no guarantee. I mean, I have to think that the vote, you know, the actual 1200 voters, you know, maybe take that as a as a little bit of an input. Um, but that's it, that's not that's not where it really counts. The 1200 people is where it really counts.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And as um Blair Blair from Don't Change says, it doesn't change our love for NXS. No, no, no. And we've got to stay humble. And you know, to us, they're winners anyway. Like, look where they've come and look where they still are.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and they're about to get the most uh prestigious award um in Australia um at the end of this month as well. So we recognize them as a country, we just want the rest of the world to recognize that as well. So we will not stop, we will carry on. Um, induct we'll carry on for another year. Let's go. John, will you still go this year? Will you go to the rock hall?
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. I I I go every year. The only time I missed, I missed it one time. Uh had uh very important thing, and my son was my was getting uh confirmed. So I missed it that year, but I've gone every year that they've had it since 2018. I'm obviously missed the COVID year, but I've been every year since 2018. And uh, you know, as long as my wife still gives me the pass, I will uh still keep going.
SPEAKER_03And she's and will you will you take a banner with in excess on it?
SPEAKER_00Um hold a second, I'll tell you what I this is what I did last time. Hold on.
SPEAKER_04Danielle, will you go to the rock hall this year? I told John I would go to to to help spread the word and be uh uh ambassador for the podcast. So thank you. Well, ambassador for in XS, yes.
SPEAKER_00So I gave out 300. I told the rock hall to induct NXS at the ceremony. I had people wearing it to the ceremony. We had t-shirts. Um met all kinds of awesome people who loved NXS. So I'll I'll be there. I'll be there with my uh stickers and t-shirts. And hopefully, uh, you know, if anybody else is in the LA area and wants to come, I'll uh I'll hook them up to stickers, not tickets, with stickers.
SPEAKER_02If you are going to be in that area and you want to do something for in XS, maybe hook up with John um or Danielle, and uh yeah, you can you know can be ambassadors for in XS. Well, guys, let's just wrap this up. Um, it's been emotional. I can't believe I haven't cried. I'm gonna be it hasn't really struck me properly yet. I'm just sort of numb at the moment. Um, I'm trying to look at the positive side of it. We've got the 50th anniversary happening next year of in XS. So we will be having a party anyway. Big party. We will be having a big party. We are going to do uh a boat, aren't we, on the uh harbor. So if there's anyone out there that wants to um join us on that, we'll be working towards that with um Linda and Kylie. We'll all be helping me um organise that one. Um so that's a that's a positive. And hopefully we will be looking at um the next induction nominations coming out when 27, 2027, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh, when?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, when will they go?
SPEAKER_00It all starts next February. Next February. Yeah, to be the meeting. Let's do it again January, and the nominees will come out next February, and we'll start it again. Also, I I believe uh Jim and Shannon they're probably already you know already changing uh the petition into inducting it, you know. Oh, I see on the inducting excess 2027. See, I don't know if that was Jim or Shane, but they're already off.

SPEAKER_00It doesn't it doesn't take away, I mean this isn't it's not unusual that that bands go through this. It doesn't take away anything, right? That's uh it it's awesome that they got nominated, and you know, they'll get back on they'll get back on the uh on it next year.
SPEAKER_02Kylie, do you want to um just wrap up with a few um uh comments from people, uh what what they are saying out there?
SPEAKER_03Um people are disappointed, of course. And look, we just have to keep uh remembering the love we have for NXS. We have to put on the music today, feel good, remember why we love them so much, and yeah, bring on 27. There's a big year for NXS, 50 anniversary of party, and hopefully another um nomination. Um and all of us, look at us all together, all every one of us. It's growing every year, isn't it? Yeah. That's it. So I think um, and all these wonderful tribute bands, especially um, well, the ones I've seen is Don't Change and I'm um I'm converted. I will be there. Uh but yeah, we we can only just keep living and loving the music.
SPEAKER_02Danielle, you've been with me uh on this podcast in induction um uh journey, and um we were so excited to hear that they were on that list, weren't we, in February? And we've just been, yeah, we've going been going back and forth. Danielle's even booked hotels where the possible um you know uh inductees would would be staying, and we were all looking at flights, and I just kept John and Dr. Jim was saying, just wait, just wait, but no, I've got to get this organized, gotta get this organized. And now I've gone into a bit of a spin of complete disappointment, and I don't know what to do with myself for the rest of the time.
SPEAKER_04You know, it's it's very disappointing. Um, I'm not gonna lie. Um, you know, my nerves are starting to come down, but um, you know, I'm I'm thankful for this core group. I'm thankful for John and the guidance he's given us and reassurance and and all of his knowledge and and everything he brings to it. He's he's been a calm in the back of you know, texting and and stuff like that. Um, but yeah, we've we've been on this journey together, B, for five and a half years on the six, and we got to still stay on this journey for another five and a half six. That you know, it is what it is, but uh, you know.
SPEAKER_01One, one, it's a good one.
SPEAKER_04Right, we've been given five years. Um I can go and be an ambassador and be like John and and get, you know, that bug in in everybody's ears. Um, I feel as fans, we did the best we could do, yeah, given what we have to work with, um, with what social media presence that the actual band has online, um, through what management has done, what we have done, you know, it's it's it's hard, like John is explaining in some of our behind-the-scenes meeting. You know, you have somebody like Oasis that got in, they've been nominated a couple of times, but they've been on this massive tour, you know, they are in the public eye. Unfortunately for us, our band is not in the public eye on a daily, monthly occurrence. I'm super excited for the honor that they're gonna be having in Australia. And maybe that getting that out will even, you know, some of these voting, you know, committee members. Um I I I am disappointed in in, you know, maybe their peers that didn't vote. But like John said, given this list this year and everything, you know, um so, but you know, again, it's an honor just to be nominated. And everybody worked so hard for all these years to even get this nomination. So we should all be incredibly proud and excited for the band to even come this far. So yeah, yeah, that's that's where I'm gonna leave it. But I thank you guys for letting me be a part of this, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the other big thing that we've um been teased with is the documentary. So hopefully that is something that will also um help towards um getting that into those um 2,300 people that uh have to do the voting as well. If a if a documentary comes out about in excess um for their 50th, which really is sort of like should be happening, shouldn't it, shouldn't it? But on that note, we will not continue.
