SPEAKER_00

Hey, what's going on, everybody? Welcome to the Chris Crotchman show for Friday, March 13th, 2026. I think on yesterday's show, I said it was Wednesday, March 12th. I get my days confused sometimes because I've been doing content full time. So like I work every day. So I get confused sometimes. I apologize for that. Um, but on today's episode, we're gonna be talking about the DAC window. And because I've been hearing a lot of people talk about this, and I want to put my two cents into this. Uh KJ from KJ's office is gonna join the show. We're gonna talk about the state of the defense. Was it necessary to move Oso to Yuzua and our favorite move of the offseason? But if you guys haven't already, please make sure to hit that like button, subscribe, I would greatly appreciate it. Without further ado, let's get into the episode. So I want to talk about the dock window. I I've been hearing people say this she gotta win in the next three years. That is the dock window. And I guess it's obviously imperative that the cowboys try and get this done over the next three years. I would prefer if they got it done in the next three years compared to waiting beyond that. But I'm not 100% bought in on this idea that you only have Doc for three more years and that's it. That's the window. I don't necessarily buy into that, and here's the reason why. I think what the Cowboys are doing right now is they're building a defense that when Doc gets later into his career, the Cowboys are going to say to themselves, we can win off the backs of our defense, very much like how Seattle said to themselves this year, we can win off the back of our defense. Just like Philadelphia said last year in 2024, uh 24-25 season, we are going to win off the backs of our defense. We have an average quarterback. I think both teams, I think Hertz is below average, and I think Darnold is a little above average. But like they're not quarterbacks you would consider elite quarterbacks. I would consider Dak an elite quarterback. I think he's earned that right. He is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. So I think the Cowboys' mindset is let's build this thing up the right way. Let's let's have a coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball where like even if Christian Parker gets a head coaching job a year from now, which I don't think is gonna happen. Like, I think the Cowboys' defense is gonna be much improved. I think you'll start hearing his name come up as like a dark horse candidate, but I don't think it's gonna happen next year. I think it's just too soon. So I think you have Christian Parker for about two or three seasons, right? So they want to build this thing up the right way. They don't wanna uh they don't want to put a band-aid over this like they did with Dan Quinn back in 2021, where they just get outstanding athletes and they just overwhelm teams that quite frankly aren't as good as them because of the the the sheer talent and the athleticism that they have. And then when you play a team like San Francisco, who has a real scheme and who has players and athletes that can match up with your athletes, then it's a different story. I think what the Cowboys are doing is they're trying to get a scheme in here, a a personnel group in here where they say these guys match what we want to do from a scheme perspective. That's why the OSA move to me, the more time goes on, the more I'm just like, that was such a perfect move because you're in this situation where you're saying to yourself, we're going to get players that fit what we want to do. We have intention with what we're trying to do. I my thing when it comes to the Cowboys is I want to see intention. And I think with moving Oso Digizua, that tells me that they're doing something intentional. Because I don't think you move Oso Digizua if you don't have other plans. I think the reason why they moved him was because one, they probably want that asset that they can move to go get another player and balance out their defense. But two, I don't think he was a scheme fit, right? Like, I think we were trying to make him a scheme fit, even though like I looked at it and said, like, when that rumor came out that Osa was potentially getting moved, I was like, yeah, they need to consider that. They need to consider that. Especially like he was probably gonna be a rotational player, and $20 million a year for a rotational player, you can move that, get an asset that you can move to go get another player, right? Like, if you want to go out and get Jordan Brooks from the Miami Dolphins, I don't think Osa Odigizua gets that deal done. And the reason why is not because OSA isn't a good player, it's because of the timeline, right? Like, why are the Dolphins gonna sit there and say, hey, yeah, trade us a 27-year-old defensive tackle, even though we're not gonna be good next year at all. We're probably not gonna really play for anything within the next two to three years. Yeah, send us your 27-year-old defensive tackle. That would make no sense. Now, if you have a draft asset, that's a completely different story. Because then what you say to them is, hey, here's your here's your draft pick. You can go spend that however you want to spend it, and you get a cheap player on a cost-controlled contract. That's much more appealing than Oso Digizua for that specific team. Other teams are different, other teams are trying to win next season. Miami's not one of those teams. So you might be in a position where now you have an asset that is you know valuable to them that you could potentially move. So that's where I look at this and I say, you know, I think I'm going off on a little bit of a tangent here. When it comes to the DAC window, like I think if Joe Flacco played on the Seahawks this year, they might have been able to win a Super Bowl. And he's 41 years old. Because Joe Flacco in a clean pocket with good receivers can still deliver the football and operate an offense. The Cowboys have a young offensive line that they're hoping develops and they have really good receivers. So now it's about building up this defense, and I think it's gonna take more than one year. It might be a you know a two-year thing. You know, I I think that the defense is gonna be a lot better this year. Let me just say that. Defense is gonna be a lot better. So I don't want Cowboys fans to think like, oh, so we're punting another season. You're not punting another season because if this defense is average, you have a chance to be a legitimate contender. But when it comes to having an elite defense, I think you're about another offseason away from that. There's just too many holes to it to fill. Do I think they have a defense that can hold up and and and at least be like 15th in the league? I mean, at the current moment, no, but they still have two first-round draft picks. There's still plenty of time left in the offseason. Let's let this thing play out. So, yeah, I'm I'm, you know, when it comes to the Dak window, I I do think they have a real chance to compete for a Super Bowl within these next three years. But I think DAC will still be playing at a level that is absolutely respectable outside of these three years. And if you have a chance to build a good enough defense around him, you have a chance to have success even beyond these three years. Hey, quick break. If you guys haven't already, please make sure to hit that like button, subscribe. I hope you guys are enjoying the episode so far. I got KJ from KJ's office up next. You guys are gonna enjoy this one. Joining me on today's episode, I got my guy KJ from KJ's office. Now, I want to start off by saying this KJ, step into my office.

SPEAKER_02

No, it's gonna be Chris stepping to my office today. For real. If you stepping into the office today, gay, and I'm I'm probably saying it a couple times now, especially when we get deep into that conversation.

SPEAKER_00

Oh man, I love it, man. If you guys don't know who KJ is, he uh runs some pages on uh Instagram, TikTok. Are you on YouTube as well?

SPEAKER_02

Um a little bit. Um, I need to get more on to YouTube, but yeah, we we basically on there. You might as well you might as well hit the follow on there too.

SPEAKER_00

For sure, for sure. And if you guys don't know what he does, he breaks down film. And I just have to say, like, I really respect your work, and I really respect just people who put themselves out there when it comes to breaking down film, because especially when you're putting it on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where it's so accessible to a lot of people, for you to put yourself out there consistently and and break down the tape, man, I I just have so so much respect for that.

SPEAKER_02

Thanks, I appreciate that. Yeah, it did it's difficult because you know you you you put film out, and you know, you're gonna have a lot of people talking about you know the things you say if you did it wrong or right or whatever, but um film can be breaked down in in so many different ways. So once you break it down, you gotta really know, like you gotta really trust in what you what you're saying, and and if if it's wrong in any way, you gotta also trust the fans too, especially when you're talking to those teams, trust the fans and you know, learn something from it as well. You know what I mean? When you when you drop something out, really read the comments and you know see if you can actually learn something. That's the purpose of it, you know.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, yeah, no, absolutely. I I I agree, man, because like I've I've done some film work in the past, and I'm I like out there'll be time. Sometimes you miss some, right?

SPEAKER_02

You miss some sometimes, bro.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, dude. Especially because you only know as much as you can know because there's certain things with schemes, and you don't know what they're being told in the huddle. You're just trying to give your give like a the best estimate that you can give for that because you want to inform the fans because what you're doing is valuable, and at its core, right, a lot of the stuff that anybody who breaks down film at a high level says is usually correct. There just may be some tweaks in it when it comes to like, no, actually, we were told to do this instead of that. Exactly. But the core of it is right.

SPEAKER_02

Yep, you never know. Like sometimes you have cover two, but it could be match on some some occasions. So where some of them have man, like so when the NFL all the time, it's it's not the thing that you think all the time, right? So like you're gonna have a cover two, but maybe some of those corners or one of those corners is supposed to just be man at that time, you know, even when you have the rest of the defense at cover two. So you never know. And then sometimes I've had players come in and comment, you know. So you you don't know. Um, the whole process really is to learn. So when you put things out there, um on film review, you put it out there, the real goal is for everyone to collaborate and and and and really figure out exactly what they ran on that play and and and get to the bottom of what went right and what went wrong. So um it's honestly an amazing, beautiful process. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. And and because you watch uh so much film, one thing that you know, I I think it's actually perfect that I have you on today. Cowboys traded Oso Diggy Zoo yesterday. And the way I look at this is they're ripping the band-aid off of the Dan Quinn era. Now, there are some pieces here, right? Like Sam Williams got re signed, Daron Bland's still here. I don't consider Overshone a Dan Quinn guy just because he never played a regular season snap with Dan Quinn, but that's besides the point. Like Malui Cooker's still here, but for the most part, they are really ripping the band-aid off this thing. And sometimes I think you need to tear something down to build it up. And with what they're doing right now with the scheme change where they're gonna be in base, they're gonna be in a 3-4 base. What they're doing right now, I think is actually perfect because Uso Digizua is not a 3-4 defensive end, he's not a 3-4 defensive tackle. And my thing is with Osa, is like he's not a great run defender, he's not stout at the point of attack. And I think what the Cowboys are doing here is yeah, it's not gonna be perfect next season. You know, this defense is not gonna be perfect, but we're trying to put things in place so that come next offseason, we can get to a point where we're really leaning on this defense. Now, when I say it's not gonna be perfect, that does not mean that the Cowboys cannot win a ton of games with this defense, like because of the offense, because I know Cowboys fans are gonna hear that and they're gonna be like, we have to wait another year. No, you can win games if you have an average defense, but when we're not talking about getting we're when you're talking about getting it to the point where it's like Seattle or something like that, that's gonna take some time. But the long-winded uh I answer for myself, I think it was necessary to move on from Oso Diggy Zoo. What do you think?

SPEAKER_02

I th I think it was too. First of all, we we definitely don't have to be Seattle, one, but two, I think it was very necessary. So this is why I like you. You're optimistic and uh you're positive. Um I think the Oso move was necessary. Why? Because Christian said it was. Okay. Um now that is gonna be a quick step into my office moment. Okay, so I love everything we're doing, right? Um we're fitting players into the scheme and what's best for the team. I'm gonna say that again. All the players we're getting is what's best for the team and what's best for the scheme. Osa moving him, Christian thought a third-round pick was better than having Osa. Why? Because of that 3-4 base defense. He thought a third-round pick was gonna be better. Because also, Osa, if it's 3-4, Osa is probably gonna be rotating a lot. For one, right? He's he's too good for that. Second, he just doesn't fit the scheme. Everything we're doing is very strategic. I think it's very different than what we did last year. We're moving right now with the purpose, it's it's with a purpose and very strategic. Okay, the OSA move, I like it. I like it. That's just the reason why I like it is it's telling me the direction we're going. Now, Solomon Thomas, I don't know. I think we move up, what, seven picks from that? Not sure about that, but I definitely like the OSA move. Yes, he was good. He went 44 tackles, uh six and a six and a half, maybe tackle for loss or whatever. Um, he was good, but he's kind of too good to be a rotational player. So I like the move there. Um, but when it comes to Christian, um, I feel like now he has a real influence on what Jerry's doing. And and I think people, you know, especially Dallas fans, kind of have that like under a spell almost when Jerry's in the interviews and saying, you know, we're all in, whatever. Um, they think we need to make a splash, but we don't. We're moving very strategic right now. I know you see it, Chris. Very strategic. The OSA move wasn't just, you know, getting rid of good players. We're not we're not bringing players on the team and releasing players based off how good they are. We're doing it based off what fits this defense. And that's what Christian is doing. So if he wanted to move on from OSA, um, I agree with it. And as soon as he did it, I understood it. Because of that 3-4 base that we're that we're trying to do. And yeah, we we also will have like maybe a 4-2-5 at some point, but we don't need to, you know what I mean? We don't need to be rotating OSA in like that. I like where we're at different defensively on the front right now. Yes, we might need to plug in more depth because the Solomon Thomas thing was like, you know, we're losing a little bit of depth there. But um, in my opinion, yeah, the the OSA move was necessary for another third-round pick, you know, and then being able to get more guys because I think at the D-tackle position right now, with the people we have, we're good to go.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because so what's interesting to me is uh the way how do you look at Kenny Clark right now? Do you look at him as like a zero or a four eye? Like, where do you think he fits best?

SPEAKER_02

Because it could be it could be either one of those. It could be either one of those.

SPEAKER_00

You know, we'll talk about it more so in the next uh uh you know segment, but I want Kenny to play a four eye and then like there's some there's two really good zero techs in this draft, like nose tackles in this draft. I would like to go after them because the way I look at Quinnen and Kenny, I don't want them being space eaters, I want them being uh in a four-eye where they're facing you know single teams, they're not getting doubled and and having to eat up space. Like, I don't really want that for them.

SPEAKER_02

Like I three four, you somebody's gonna get doubled, you either go left or you go right.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. Exactly. And so the way I look at the OSA move, though, is you're 100% right. Like you have to build, you have to tear this thing down sometimes. Like sometimes you have to take a step back to take multiple steps forward, and that's where I'm looking at this OSA move. And not only that, like, right, they have a third-round pick, they can use that third-round pick to go trade for somebody else. Maybe you're in a situation where you trade that third-round pick to Miami and go get that linebacker, Jordan Brooks. Maybe you trade that to Minnesota and go get Jonathan Grenard, right? Like they have options from that perspective, and you know, like if you end up using that third round pick to trade for Jordan Brooks, essentially what you did was trade OSA for Jordan Brooks, and what that tells me is now you're balancing out your defense, right? Like you're getting guys in other areas because the thing is with this defense, Foote said this yesterday on one of his shows, and I I I just it's so true. When you were on a defense that was bottom five of all time in DVOA, nobody's safe. Absolutely nobody's safe.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely not.

SPEAKER_00

One thing we were talking about, you know, pre-show was that you know, you brought it up. You know, scheme sometimes helps these players. And when I look at a guy like Osa, I just think playing in a four-three is much better, much better than playing in a 3-4.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But he, yeah, because he's not a mica, he's not a max. Like, he doesn't like the dict the scheme. Like, he doesn't control the scheme. You know, these are the type of players that like Osa the type of player that he should be in the scheme that fits him. And that's not what Christian has in mind, period. And then once Christian moved Osa, and and Jerry and Christian moved Osa, that just made me know, like, that let me know that he doesn't he doesn't fit for us, and I'm gonna trust that. You know what I mean? And and I agree too, like, I don't think Osa would've fit the scheme. Because where is he gonna play? Like, if he's not rotating, is he gonna start and play the whole game with us? No. So, like, why not get a third and then build behind uh that D line? But we do need it now. We gotta probably address the D-tackle position a little bit. Because who do we have now on a D-tackle position? Like, other than Clark Williams, that's really gonna impact the game.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, for sure. And that's where we might have to, you know. Oh, yeah, no, I agree. That's actually a perfect segue into our next topic, which is the state of this defense where it currently stands. I want Cowboys fans to understand this. They added three players to this defense that I think are going to be either good to really good. I think PJ Lock, I think Jalen Thompson, I think Rashawn Gary are either good to really good players.

SPEAKER_02

And Christian knows that they know them safety are good.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. So they moved on from OSA. Like, was not a scheme fit. But the thing is, they have two first-round draft picks. I think that's what people are ignoring. They now have a third-round pick that they can use to go trade for a defensive player. Maybe they can use that in the draft to go draft a linebacker because like I'm not like with the needs that this team has, I'm unless Styles is there at 12, I think I'm good on drafting a linebacker.

SPEAKER_02

That will be a blessing. That would be a blessing from God if he's still there.

SPEAKER_00

So my vision for this defense right now, I I want them to go trade for Jordan Brooks. And then the Brooks.

SPEAKER_02

I've noticed you like Jordan Brooks. You can bring it as well. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. Well, I mean, because he is a really good player, and he's like on a team that is terrible. Like I it seems like you would put us. And so the way I look at this is you have two first-round draft picks. I would take Theneman at 12, and then I would take either Kane McDonald or Lee Hunter at 20. And here's Really. Yeah, so here's the way I look at this. What I would do with Thieneman is when you're in your base, when you're in 3-4, the uh safeties that I would have over the top are Thompson and Thieneman.

SPEAKER_02

Bring them down.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, okay. I'm I'm playing Thieneman in the slot, and he's gonna be like my Cooper DeGene.

SPEAKER_02

Thompson can go down two now. Thompson can go down two. You can.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely you can.

SPEAKER_02

I like that though. I like that. I like that. I like that.

SPEAKER_00

See, but like the way I look at it is like, okay, if you have Thompson over the top, or you know, it doesn't always have to be like that. Maybe sometimes uh a matchup favors Thompson, you throw him in the middle of the street. Exactly, matchup based. So yeah, that's where I would go with 12, just because like I think all those those guys that we're talking about. Yeah, like I I I think all those guys that we want, Dwayne, uh um, you know, Styles, uh, Downs, Bain, I think they're all gonna be off the board. Like that's just the the yeah, I think so too.

SPEAKER_02

But let me let me ask you this. Let me or you can continue if you if you need to continue, but yeah, I have an I have an important question.

SPEAKER_00

I wanted to just add this before you ask your question. If we were to draft a Delane, what's the plan for Bland? Because is the plan throwing him back on the nickel? Yeah, exactly. So that's where I kind of think maybe Thieneman would be a better would be a better outcome here because of his versatility to play over the top and play on the slot. So at that point, like now I'm looking at this defense. I'll go over the base and the nickel. When you're in your base, if you uh make the moves that I brought up, you would have let's just say sake of argument, Caden McDonald as your nose. You would have uh Kenny and Quinnen as your uh DNs, and then you would have Gary and Ezeraku as your outside linebackers, then as your linebackers, you would have Jordan Brooks and Demarvian Overshone, and then as your safeties, uh Thieneman and uh Thompson, and then on your outside, Revel and Bland. Like that doesn't sound too bad for me. And then when you get into your when you get into your nickel, now you have Quinnen and Kenny as your defensive tackles, and then you have Gary and Ezaraku as your uh ends, then you have Jordan Brooks over shown as your linebackers, then over the top at safety, you would have Thompson and Hooker or Locke, and then in the slot you would have Thieneman, and then on the outside you'd have Revel and Bland. And I'm looking at this, I'm like, if Christian Parker is a good one. That's what I'm saying. Like, if Christian Parker is as good as we think he is, he's gonna develop him anyway. Exactly. He's gonna work at that.

SPEAKER_02

I think you're missing someone, first of all, too. But um, that was leading into my question. Since we haven't made a move at corner yet, um, what if with Christian being a DB guy, and you know that position is gonna be very strategic, right? When when we get if we add anybody in the DB room, it's very strategic. We know why he added Thompson because of that scheme. We we don't have to talk about that. We know why he added them. The lock is cool, but what if he likes our corners? And you're forgetting one person, Carson, Kalen Carson. So I love Carson coming out. I think Carson, even Rebel, Bland, I think they all um didn't fit well in the scheme last year. I think they made a lot of mental mistakes in the zone coverages. I think that's why they look so bad. I like Carson, I really do. I still like him. Rebel and Bland. So what if Christian really likes his DB room and thinks he can develop them of what we have now? If he if he likes these corners, right? And come April, we take the corner off the board, we don't even draft no corners. What is it gonna look like then? And then what if he really develops these corners we have in Carson, which I think is our best three, is Carson, Rebel, and Bland. That's those are my best three. Um, because I do like Carson and how he played in college, and I like I like his main coverage in my in my opinion. If we have those three, he likes them three, right, in in the draft, and we can just do all the other positions and we hit on all of them, what is that gonna look like? That's gonna really, to me, that's what's gonna make us elite if he gets these corners we have now playing at a at a great level.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I'm just gonna say this about Revel. I I think he has a chance to be a superstar in this league.

SPEAKER_02

Come off the injury, he was still playing all right. Come on.

SPEAKER_00

Really leave. Oh, dude, when I mean there's some reps where he runs routes for receivers.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, dude. You're athlete crazy. And the thing is, like, yeah, when he's in zone, like I can't even the thing is I can't we knew that really, I can't really study the film last year with zoned because of all the misassignments. Like, there are times where watching the cowboys film and their defense, I don't know what the hell covers they're in. I really don't. I didn't there's a bunch of times I didn't with Hooker too. Hooker is all over the field. I didn't know what coverage we were in a lot of times, so it's really hard for me to diagnose the film on RDB's last year because of the mental aspect. So I kind of just want to throw last year out the way and keep thinking that these are still good corners.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you want to know what I I know exactly what coverage they were playing, they were playing cover zero.

SPEAKER_02

Well, sometimes that's man, but if in their plan zero, I didn't know what's going on their random times.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no. This is the joke I'm trying to get to. They played cover zero, meaning they did not cover anybody, they covered zero.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Okay, I get you. Yeah, I I agree. Because who the who the hell knows what the hell?

SPEAKER_00

But I mean, I I just think that when you when when you look at the possibilities this defense has, like I look I came into this offseason and I'm like, they need to add about six players to this defense. Now they did they did lose osa. That is a fair like fair take. But added Jalen Thompson. Yeah, I I I kind of agree. Because like I think that guy, I think that guy from the Chargers, uh uh Anita uh Agbani, I I'm I'm sorry, I I need to hear his name pronounced uh before I try to do that. I always thought about that on it. For for what you're looking for, when you're just looking for a space-eating defensive tackle, like nose tackle, he can do that. He's not gonna give you much pass rush, but he'll be stout at the point of attack. So, you know, now especially when you're playing so much nickel because teams are playing 11 personnel more, you know, maybe that idea that I had of drafting a McDonald or a Lee Hunter at pick 20, maybe that goes out of the window because they're like, look, we're gonna be playing base 30% of the time. Uh yeah, like is it is it worth it from that perspective? So like I would look at it and even still say, like, you added Thompson and you added Gary. Like, those are two good good players that like I think Thompson's really good.

SPEAKER_02

100%. And Gary's a scheme guy, too. Like, he can he can fit with with with what we have here.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah. Oh yeah, and and now you you still have two first-round draft picks. You have a third-round pick that you can make. Exactly. You have a you have a third-round pick that you can move somewhere to to get a uh a good player.

SPEAKER_02

Or or use it. Or use it.

SPEAKER_00

Or use it, or use it. There's plenty of guys in this draft that you could potentially target. So to me, like the offseason isn't over yet. I mean, we're only not even close.

SPEAKER_02

Not even close.

SPEAKER_00

I at the time of recording, we're we're barely over 24 hours into the week, the new league year. So, like, I I get where people are coming from when they're talking about like, hey, look, Jerry said he was gonna bust the budget. Like, let's be honest.

SPEAKER_02

He always says he always says that.

SPEAKER_00

If they sign George Pickens, though, like it, bro. If they sign George Pickens, that's a $35 million a year player. Yeah, but we do.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, we would we we would reconstruct that. He he'd probably be making less this year than is on his franchise pack.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, they they would they they would work that thing out, but like, you know, last thing that I I want to ask when it comes to this defense, because I think it perfectly ties into it. Like, I'm hearing a lot of people say, you know, the dock window. You only have a few years left in the dock window. This might sound crazy for me to say. I think a team could win a Super Bowl with Joe Flacco as their quarterback. With the way he's playing now, if you give him a good enough team, he he can't.

SPEAKER_02

He's gonna have the good ass gonna have to have a good ass defense.

SPEAKER_00

But that's where it but see, that's where I'm going with this, though. So doc's gonna be 33 at the start of the the year. I think Doc has like three more years of like elite football. Or more than that, more than that. Exactly.

SPEAKER_02

But see, imagine Dak on that Seattle team, even the Patriots team. Well, imagine Dak on that Texas team when she did throw she did throw up through four picks. Come on, dude.

SPEAKER_00

Come on, but that and and and that's exactly what I'm saying. I don't think the Cowboys are looking at this as we only have three more years to win a Super Bowl, like people are trying to say. Absolutely. I think what they're what what they're looking at is like, let's properly build this defense. Because in 2021, when they had that defense with Micah and Dan Quinn and all them, they did not properly build that thing. They just did players, and uh and when they played against the best teams, you saw what happened.

SPEAKER_02

Like, yeah, that's what I'm telling you now. That's that that's what I meant. Like, we're moving strategically now. We're not getting rid of players and adding players based on how good they are. It's strategic, dude. It's it's different right now. It feels different, doesn't it, Chris? It feels different right now. It feels different. The ultimate move made me really feel like, okay, it's different now. We're not getting rid of players because of how good they are. It's the scheme fit. That just that let me know everything I needed to know. The ultimate move.

SPEAKER_00

I think what fans need to realize is that like Oso Digizua is a good player, but he's a good player in a certain scheme. If let's just say to you to to to break this down, if Osa was like in an 84 overall, right? In a 4-3, in a 3-4, he's probably fucking 77. That's the exact number that I was going to.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, dude. Yeah, dude.

SPEAKER_00

A third-round pick for a player that you would grade as like a 77 overall, that's like that's fair value.

SPEAKER_02

I'm telling you, he would have been, he would not have played that good this year. You can tell. And Christian knows that, bro. Christian is smart, dude. So we gotta kind of trust it. So a lot of times, that's why I like you a lot because when things happen, you don't just go straight to the mic. You really think about it. You think about why we did it first. Because it's easy. Like, as soon as also I'm gonna be honest too. As soon as OSA was traded, I was like, oh, why did we do that? I thought about for a couple hours, I knew why we did it. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

It exactly, and and you want to know you want to know what I like about the OSA move the most? It felt intentional.

SPEAKER_02

It did exact with a purpose. We move with a purpose.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it felt it felt intentional. And like I I I haven't really been able to say that. Like a lot of times, like even trade, the mica trade for mica trade didn't even feel intentional.

SPEAKER_02

It felt like we had to do it.

SPEAKER_00

It was not intense, it was it was yeah, like we had to do it, yeah. Like, yeah, dude. I I'm gonna be honest. Even the tickets trade wasn't even that exactly. No, I I will say I actually do think that was intentional because they went into the draft and they didn't even touch it. Yeah, you're right. You might be right. Remember that? Like they didn't even they didn't even consider a receiver in that draft.

SPEAKER_02

I was kind of mad too at that time.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think that move was intentional, and then like I'm gonna be honest with you. For as much as I like the move, I don't think the Quinn Williams move was intentional at all. I think they were just like, look, uh, we need to give the fans something to yeah, I think so too.

SPEAKER_02

I think because we would have did it, we would have done it earlier if it was intentional.

SPEAKER_00

And exactly. So to me, adding Jalen Thompson, adding Rashawn Gary, and we'll we'll talk about them in the in in the next segment. But I I just I look at this and I just say they're heading in the right direction, like they will they will be a better defense next year. No, no doubt about it they will be a better defense. I just think that you know, and to to put a bow on this, right? To go back to the George Pickens thing. During the draft, I was upset about it. A lot of people were upset about it. We didn't draft a receiver. I'm like, do you see the receiver? Like, what are we doing here? But the Cowboys said, Oh, you want us to go sign Amari Cooper? Cute. You want us to go.

SPEAKER_02

We were we were thinking about Amari Cooper. They they had a Keenan Allen too. Remember Keenan Allen? Remember Keenan Allen?

SPEAKER_00

They had a hashtag for Keenan Allen.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, dude, that's not everybody was getting Keenan.

SPEAKER_00

We were there was there was uh uh Stefan Diggs out there, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

All that's picking was not in my head at all, and the cowboys were like relax.

SPEAKER_00

And they added a guy who this year was an all-pro receiver, so that's where I would say like I know there's a lot of people that are saying like the cowboys don't deserve the benefit of the doubt. And I'm like, I kind of disagree with that because last year, when there was a big hole at an important position, they filled it and they filled it with one of the best players in the entire league at that position. So that's where I would say I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt. And and and let's wait until July, until training camp, once training camp is in session, then it's like, all right, these holes that you have, this it's gonna be it's it's gonna be hard to fill those. So that's what what I would say. You have any final thoughts on that?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, there's one more thing. Um, I I what I sent you before we got on this call, the 18 cap or whatever, down to five. So just speculation here. Do you think there is a splash coming, maybe, of how we moving? I can tell you this.

SPEAKER_00

I can tell you this. I I think that the talks went a different way, but I know there was discussion about Josh Sweat this morning. I now now I was told I was told um like just a few hours ago, hey, any update on the Josh Sweat, you know, uh side of things. And no, it's it's probably not happening. But the fact that they even inquired in the first place to me, I'm just like, okay, like they're they're they're they're scheming, dude.

SPEAKER_02

Jerry and Christian, they're scheming, dude. You didn't say that.

SPEAKER_00

And you want to know what Christian Parker came in here and said, these guys you have on your defense are not good enough. We need guys, like we need real solutions on defense. Yeah, and I think they've gotten some real solutions. Now, like you and I will both admit there's still holes on this defense. Oh, it's not gonna be perfect, it's not gonna be perfect. That's a whole nother that's a whole nother yeah, but see, here's the thing, right? It's not gonna be you're not gonna have a lockdown secondary with a ferocious pass rush and a run defense that locks, you're not gonna have that next year. You might have a run defense that shuts everybody down, you might have a secondary that's pretty good. You might have a pass rush that you you want more from. Like you're it's it's not gonna all come together. Like, this was one of the worst defenses of all time last season. Yeah. If if you could go from one of the worst defenses of all time to like average, just 25 a game in like 20.

SPEAKER_02

You're you're probably making the pile.

SPEAKER_00

Like you are you are sure, like think about it like this, right? You had one of the worst defenses of all time. Think about it like this. If that one second comes off against the Packers, the Packers are now what instead of nine, seven, and one, they're nine and eight. You're eight and nine. And I'm like, if if if you were uh eight and eight going into that week eighteen game against the New York Giants, bro, they would have won that game. They would have found a way to win that game. And now you're nine and eight with a win over the Packers, yeah. You would have made the playoffs.

SPEAKER_02

But that was just Dak, but the the mess up in the bottom of the game. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And I I I know it might sound like like super optimistic, but I'm like, that's best football, dude.

SPEAKER_02

That's football, dude.

SPEAKER_00

Am I like am I wrong? Game inches.

SPEAKER_02

Game inches, yeah. And that's also even like that's also even like Dak not getting tackled right there by by Micah, ironically.

SPEAKER_00

Dude, and and that's where I come to the conclusion, like, if they were pretty much one second away from making the playoffs last year, with one of the worst defenses of all time, if they're just average next year, yeah, just average, like they will they will be one of the best teams in the entire conference. And I mean, like, not like one of the best teams like we were under Mike McCarthy, like a team where you're like, teams don't want to play that team.

SPEAKER_02

Dude, Dak was so good last year, dude.

SPEAKER_00

Insane. He was he was he was insane.

SPEAKER_02

I just worry because I mean it's every other year thing with Dak. So he stays healthy this year, man, and we get it done.

SPEAKER_00

I I I agree.

SPEAKER_02

I'm I'm scared.

SPEAKER_00

So the last topic I want to move on to is you know, the Cowboys have made a lot of moves so far this offseason, right? Like they signed Jalen Thompson, they traded for Rashawn Gary, they signed PJ Lock, they signed the the nose tackle from the Chargers, they traded OSA. You can even, if that's your answer, I'm cool with that. So far, what is your favorite move so far of the Cowboys offseason?

SPEAKER_02

No, no, mine's Thompson, for sure. Why? Because we we established Christian is a DB coach, the DB guy. So if he likes Thompson, I'm with that. And Thompson, so I actually posted it. I like I like them hit us at DB. I like them hit us. So um Thompson's a guy that can come downhill, you know, even if he's too high, can come downhill. If we have to switch from that 3-4 to that 4-2-5, he can play the nickel if we need him to. You know, if injuries happen or whatever, even if that's just how the game is going, he can play down there, right? He's someone who can has ball skills, can can intercept the ball. He plays really good zone defense. Um, Thompson is by far the best move. And I I really like um uh now how the safety room is positioned. I do like Hooker still. I mean, Hooker, you know, under Dan Quinn he was really good. I think last year, again, it was more mental mistakes. It was more mental mistakes than anything. I think Hooker looked worse than he really is. Um, Thompson has always kind of been solid for Arizona, always been solid. Um, I think Hooker, I think uh Thompson is no question the best signing. He's so versatile. He can he can do everything. He's a veteran kind of now, too. He's been in the league for a long time. I mean, what, how many years? Five at least?

SPEAKER_00

He's been so 20 2019 draft. So I think he's going into the game.

SPEAKER_02

Five seasons, right? Sevens? Okay. He's a veteran, dude. He's a veteran.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yes, yes.

SPEAKER_02

He's a veteran. So we need that leadership. I think that was the best signing. Um, I don't think Christian would have made that signing if he did not like everything Thompson is as a DB. Um, that's the best sign. Gary was cool. Um I like that that trade. I like I like being down there. Um I like him down there. Uh who else? Umsa that move. Yeah. Lock too. Um, I think Locke is cool. Locke is probably, I don't see Locke playing in front of Hooker or Thompson. I think Thompson's gonna start right away. Right away. Oh, yeah. There's no question. Uh Thompson has to be the best move, bro. With everything we're doing, has to be, dude.

SPEAKER_00

And see, I agree with you, and for the sake of the conversation, I'll I'll take it another way just because I think you really nailed everything about Jalen Thompson. I will say my second favorite move is the OSA move. And the reason why is it's be it's not because you traded OSA and OSA was this liability. No, OSA in the right scheme is a good football player, really good football player. But that is not the scheme that we're running right now. The scheme that he thrives in is not the scheme that we're running right now. And the reason why I liked it was because when they traded OSA, I said, Oh, this is intentional. Because I I feel like what fans do is I feel like they get so attached to certain players that uh when you move on from a player, so why would you do that? He provided this, that, and the third. And I would just say, okay, but like the team doesn't agree with you. The team, like if Osa was what the fans thought he was, and he was like he was a good player. But if if they if Christian Parker in that front office uh said what the fans think uh Oso Digizo is gonna be in this new scheme, like he did not agree with that vision that people had. He just said he said, No, we need to go a different direction because he is not a scheme fake. And you know, I talked about it earlier. You're you're ripping off the band-aid of an era of football that this team is clearly trying to get away from. Like, and here's my thing as well, right? We uh over the Past few years, we've had different defensive coordinators. Uh uh Dan Quinn, Mike Zimmer, Matt Iberflus, and now Christian Parker. The the the common between Zimmer and Iberflus is that they were working with Dan Quinn's personnel. Right. So, like, do you want these guys to actually build a defense and have uh players that fit into what they want to do? Because I hear this all the time, and and and I I it's true, but I also don't like the the narrative around this. I'll hear people say, like, all right, a great uh uh defensive coordinator can build a scheme around his players. Sure. But a great defensive coordinator is gonna be at his best when he has players that fits fit the scheme that he wants to run. Look at Minnesota, bro. Minnesota for years has been building up that defense uh with Brian Flores. And now they've been able to really implement it. Why? Because they were strategic in the way they moved, right? That is what the Cowboys are doing right now with their defense. They are making moves that make sense. Every one of these additions that they made has made sense. I'm not wondering, okay, what's the fit here? I know what the fit here is. If anything, the question that I had going into next season is what is the fit with OSA? That's the that's if we're if we're being honest, that's the question I had.

SPEAKER_02

Bro, he was gonna rotate, dude. He was gonna fucking rotate, he was gonna rotate.

SPEAKER_00

Bro, and and here's the thing, man. I I do not fault the Joneses at all for saying we are not paying 20 million dollars a year for a rotational pyre. It ain't happening, it's not happening.

SPEAKER_02

My other moves, too. Um Henderson, dude. I'm cool, not paying that money for Henderson.

SPEAKER_01

But you hit the nail on the head, bro.

SPEAKER_02

You hit the nail on the head. OSA gave us purpose, gave us purpose, gave us purpose. That's the nail on the head, bro. That that'd be my second favorite move as well. Honestly, that's one A, one B for me. As soon as I we got we traded away OSA, I was like, now I know. I I have more direction than I've had in a long time on this defense.

SPEAKER_00

So for sure. Any final thoughts before uh we sign off?

SPEAKER_02

I don't think so. I mean, it's been great being on here. We gotta do this again for sure.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, bro. We've been on here for we've been on here for for 40 minutes. I didn't even know. This was good, dude.

SPEAKER_02

Like, this is this is good. I have I have not found a content creator to to really stink with. This was good, dude. Like we we was on it, bro. We was on it. I think we definitely gotta do it again. I'm I'm free almost whenever, like um past six o'clock. So whenever you're down, bro. When big news, even when big news happens, bro, I'm usually running straight here for things. So if big news happened, you ever hit me up? You have my number now, you ever hit me up, you like yo, let's hop on right now. I'm always with it, bro.
