Thank you for listening to HOPE TODAY. This is a program developed at Light & Life Programming, a registered charity. We are listener supported. If you would like to help with this ministry, donations can be made through our website at www.lightnlife.ca.
Welcome to Hope Today. It is so good to be with you once again for this journey of faith and encouragement. The Bible clearly teaches and demonstrates that God is made up of three distinct persons, each with unique functions, yet all as part of one God. Our finite in human thinking makes it difficult to fully understand. The third person of the Trinity is the Holy Spirit. Who is the Holy Spirit? This important answer and more. With Pastor Tom Collin in just a few moments, Mac Wigfield comes along now to lead us to encouraging gospel music.
SPEAKER_05Well, thank you, and welcome to a bit of gospel music on Hope Today as we begin the program today. You know, it's possible for us now, through the blood of Christ, to enter the very presence of God. What was called in the Old Testament the Holy of Holies. Here are the dills to tell us about that.
SPEAKER_10In the Holy of Holies, behind the heavy veil, sat the Ark of the Covenant where the Most High went, and only the high priest could enter the rim to offer up the sacrifice for a ton of sea. But the veil was rent in an instant, revealing the holy place on a hill nearby, on a rocket cross, just mackerel. Now I can go into the holy of holy. I can leave and make my petition known. I can go into the holy of holy. And although I'm just a common man, because of God's redemption plan, I can only go. Teach us lawyer, fill us la with gifts from above. Let your spirit settle in this place, holy spirit. Come in this place. Fill our hearts with your abundant grace. Let our church proclaim your praise. Holy spirit come in this place. We are please feel us now before you humbly b in this place. May your presence be as we strive your face to seek holy spirit. Come in this place. Fill our hearts with your abundant praise. Let our time proclaim your praise. Holy Spirit come in displays all to you and freely kill it obedient. Take my life and let it be more of you and Holy Spirit, come in this place, fill our hearts with your abundant grace. Let our claim your grace holy speed.
SPEAKER_01He is often neglected, misunderstood, and even ignored by many inside the church and outside the church. But the truth is, the Holy Spirit is as much a person of the Godhead as God the Father and God the Son. He is vitally important to your conversion and subsequent life as a Christian. So Meredith Andrews prays that we would know the Spirit of the Living God.
SPEAKER_02We're leaning into you. Everything else can await. Come now and have your way. When you do what only you can do, it changes us, it changes what we see, and what we see when you come in the room, when you do what only you can do, it changes us, it changes what we see, what we see You change it Spirit of the living God, Spirit of the Living God, come now and breathe upon our hearts.
SPEAKER_07Come now and have your way When you speak, when you move, when you do what only you can do changes that, it changes what we see And what do we see Queen God When you do what only you can do changes up, it changes what we see what we see it changes, you move us when you both you move us to When you do us all the things.
SPEAKER_01Moses proclaimed, Here, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. We Christians believe that God is one, but we further believe that He has revealed Himself to us in three ways. Do we submit to God the Holy Spirit, allowing him to be our strength, enlighten our ignorance, mold our wills, and keep us in unity with followers of Christ throughout the world? Are we merely God seekers? Or are we God-possessed, God-led, and God empowered? Keith Green sings of the Trinity in holy, holy, holy. As we read through Scripture, we discover in the Old Testament that the Holy Spirit was with people. He was with the Israelites. He was with King David. But in the New Testament, with the coming of Christ, we see something new. We see that the Holy Spirit is now in God's people. This is possible because Jesus Christ has offered his life on the cross. And I can imagine the Jewish people saying I love the feast of Pentagon. It's a time when we can rejoice in the Lord and with the Lord. I wish I could do that all the time. Don't be silly when comes the response. That would mean that God would come and live in each one of us. That would never happen. We're so sinful and he is so holy. The good news is that through faith and Christ we are forgiven of our sin. And now God the Holy Spirit comes and lives in each one of us. Here's the Gaither vocal band with sweet, sweet spirit.
SPEAKER_00Filling us with your blessings we live our hearts in praise without a doubt will know that we have been revived when we shall be on the hymn that is often found on Pentecost Sunday is actually a deeply moving prayer for personal devotion and could really be used anytime. The author was George Crawley, who was born in Dublin in 1780. His father was a physician, but George decided to become a physician of souls. He was ordained into the Anglican ministry when he graduated from Trinity College in 1804. There was no church available to him at the time, so he moved to London where he began writing. There he developed a respected reputation as a gifted man of words. Eventually, George was assigned to St. Stephen's, a church in the slums of London that had been closed for over a hundred years. As he began preaching eloquent sermons, without notes, the crowds came. His energy seemed boundless. He turned out seemingly endless compositions of hymns, dramas, biographies, historical and theological works, sermons and novels. In 1854, George published a volume of hymns, but before it was released, a fire broke out and destroyed most of the copies. However, one hymn from this book still lives on today. In this hymn, George Crawley's prayer is to the Holy Spirit, and it's based on Galatians 5.25, where we read that if we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Listen to Sue Nixon with Walt Wagner as they sing Spirit of God, descend upon my heart.
SPEAKER_09Wean it from earth through all its forces. Stoop to my weakness might be as thou and make me love thee as I just love thee, judge and keep. Teach my heart to clean. Oh let me seek thee and oh let me teach me to feel just thou ways nice. Teach me the struggles of the soul to bear to check the rising touch, the rebel side. Teach me the patience of unsuit. As my teachers, one holy pressure, feeling on my face, just baptism, empty sentences, my heart the answers, and thy knowledge of Here's the truth.
SPEAKER_01Christianity is not about God cleaning you up so that you can live a good life and go to heaven. No, no, no. It is something far better than that. It is that through faith in Jesus Christ, the proverbial Passover lamb was slain for us. We can now know forgiveness of sin so that God may come and dwell in each of us by his Holy Spirit. When Jesus said that he has come to bring life, he was a meeting of his own life given to you and to me. What was once a yearly experience for God's people, it is now a continuous experience for every believer. We are able to rejoice before the Lord and fellowship with God now and forever. Because he now lives in This is why the Book of Acts addresses the fact that the Holy Spirit came at the feast of the Pentagon. What that means is what was experienced only in the Old Testament. The promises of the Pentagon are now fulfilled. The question is not, do we have the whole of the Holy Spirit? The question is the Holy Spirit have the whole of you. Someone has said that the world is a kind of spiritual kindergarten where millions of bewildered infants are trying to spell God with the wrong block. God cannot be spelled with the blocks of logic because God is not a theory to be worked out mathematically. God cannot be spelled with the blocks of science because God is not an object to be weighed and measured. God is a person to be known. And we shall never know a person until we trust him and follow him and try to make him our friend. And so with God. But give thanks. We don't need to try to make him our friend. For in Christ, he has proven his friendship with us. We need only surrender to him. Shane and Shane join with the Kingdom Kids to sing the truth in Yes and Amen.
SPEAKER_03Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Who is blessed us in our Savior with every spiritual pride? Shoulder my shape Baby of the B.
SPEAKER_10Show the day.
SPEAKER_03Salvation of beautiful Christian.
SPEAKER_01The idea of the Holy Spirit being associated with wind would not be new to the Jewish mind. His name comes from the Hebrew word rua. You can't get that word out without forcing it from the bottom of your diaphragm. Ruah. It means the wind of the spirit. In our age of green energy, we are discovering a great deal about the power of the wind. The tornadoes of the past number of years have proven the strength of the wind, the power to move whole houses, apartments, and oceans. It has been given to you for power. Not the power to dominate or control or cohort. It has rather the power to be like Christ. The power to serve, the power to hold on to God in the midst of a difficult situation. The power to love your enemy. You have been given power in the person of the Holy Spirit to live the Christian life and be like Christ. Put him on display. He will produce the Christ character in you so that others will see the truth of Christ. We cannot produce the Christ life on our own. It is only as we allow the Holy Spirit to have full control of our lives that he is able to reproduce the Christ life in us. Here's Stephen Gordo with Come, Holy Spirit come.
SPEAKER_10Come, Holy Spirit, come. Dispel the darkness from our minds, and open all our eyes.
SPEAKER_01In the New Testament book of John, Jesus gives us this promise. He says, I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever. The Spirit of Truth. The Advocate, Jesus continues, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of everything I have said to you. He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own. He will only speak what he hears. And he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me, because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. So Keith and Kristen Getty offer this prayer in Holy Spirit.
SPEAKER_11Breathe new life into my willing soul. Bring the presence of the rest of the Lord to renew my heart and make me whole. Give me faith for what I cannot see. Give me passion for your purity, Holy Spirit, breathe new life in me. May your joy be seen in all I do. In each thought, indeed, and attitude. Gentleness that sows the path of peace. Turn my striding into works of grace, breath of God, show Christ in all I do. Show your power once again. Cause your church to hunger for the ways the fragrance of a praise that arise leaders on the road of safety That in unity the face of Christ will be clear for all the world to see Christ with me and Christ before me Christ behind me and Christ in me Christ beneath me and Christ above me Christ to my right and Christ to my left Christ when I lie down and Christ when I arise Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.
SPEAKER_06I arise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, through belief in the threeness, through confession of the oneness of the Creator of Creation.
SPEAKER_01Fire in Scripture is a symbol of God's presence. And so the Holy Spirit living in you is the very presence of God. Do you see the wonder of this truth? You don't have to try to guess if God is with you or against you. That question has been settled long ago. When you claimed Christ as Savior and Lord, of course he is with you. You have his spirit living in you. But as I mentioned earlier, the question is are we allowing his presence to dominate our lives? It is impossible. I want to ignore him. You know what fire does. And when we cleanse him, when we reject him, we're in great danger of living in sin and not progressing in our Christian life so that we become more and more like Christ. The warmest people I know are people who have allowed the Holy Spirit to fully reign in their lives. So the question, it's not, do you have the whole of the Holy Spirit? The question is, does the Holy Spirit have the whole of you? Hear saddleback worship with Spirit of God.
SPEAKER_08Can you hear it? A sudden quiet, you can't deny it when the Spirit rushes in, the air is changing, the ground is shaking, anticipating his presence here to dwell.
SPEAKER_10When you fall, when you fall, on my walls begin to break, Spirit of God, Spirit of God, come and take your place, come and take your place, hear in our hearts, hear in our hearts, come and have your way, come and have your way as we believe God, you're moving the blinders see, every room begins to heal.
SPEAKER_08Would you come in power?
SPEAKER_10Let your holy fire awake revival. Let this place resound with praise. Come and take your place. Hearing the hearts, healing the hearts. Come and have your way.
SPEAKER_04The Holy Spirit is God's presence with us. The Holy Spirit cleanses and warms our spirit and assures us of God's love. Spirit of God, we pray that you would descend upon our hearts today.
