I think it was early February. But we're back. Last week we had a very special guest on, which was a lot of fun.

I'm good. I there was a lot to do for my work as well. I also feel like I've been working a lot, but like it's also like not that serious to the point where I'm like, oh my god, like, you know, this is like it's not I I love my job.

I just feel like sometimes I'm kind of just like, whoa, okay, dial it back. Yeah. You know, because just because there's a lot of events now since it's summer and kids are out of school.

So you you're in the hospitality industry.

Yeah, so like it's gonna be busy. Yeah. But like, I mean, I also get to plan really cool, fun stuff, which I really like, and my boss is the most flexible person in the world, and she's also the bomb, and we get along very well. We talk about the coolest things. She likes she likes heated wildly, she likes, you know, like she likes romance novels, you know, she likes books. She likes she has an Avatar tattoo. Like, yeah, I don't know if I told you that, but she has an Avatar tattoo.

Really? Yeah. I don't know what that means, but she's the bomb. She's the best. I she's literally Emily. Yeah, I love Emily. She's one of the best, she's literally the best boss I could ask for, especially in that kind of job. And she's taught me so much for like marketing-wise, so it really helps me like see what I could do for this podcast, too, of like how to like spread that we're out there, you know, and really like tell people who we are. So she's taught me a lot of cool stuff there. She's also taught me a lot of good stuff for like how to do deal with like damage control when it comes to like customers being upset and stuff like that. She's like, you kinda gotta dial it back and you kind of gotta like customer satisfaction. Yeah, like you know, you could tell them one thing and the next day it might change, but you kind of you might have to get yelled at, like it happens, you know, like it is what it is.

It's having that um wall up to where you can protect yourself, which is something that I was never good at. Yeah, and so if somebody I can only imagine working in front of house, and if somebody yells at me, I would just start crying.

I have gotten used to the idea of like, you know, like because I worked in retail for a while too. I worked at like a grocery store when I was in when we were in high school. And I know you worked at like dominoes, right?

I did. I worked at dominoes. I started in front of house and then I went to back of house. Same thing with beer snobs. Oh yeah, that's right.

You worked there too.

Yeah, I was in uh front of house, I was running food to tables, and then I mentioned to the cooks that I wanted to go to school for culinary, and they were like, Well, shit, get back here. And so then the next day I was starting in the kitchen. Okay. Yeah, it was great. And then I was I was there for a year and they treated me fantastically. I I loved it.

No, honestly, keep it in because people who I used to work with there wanted me out of that kitchen because they saw how much potential I had. Oh. And then I went to go work at Belfry. And then they were like, see, you're you're doing just fine. Like you're so sorry. No, not rude.

No, at first I didn't hear the Belfry part, and then I was like, You know what I mean?

No, it was it was actually kind of a funny situation, and you know, like at the time I was really pissed about it, but I understood why they did it now, and like this was my theory. I have potential, and they all saw it. And so they started putting me on the schedule for less and less days. Yeah. Until I was only working one day one day a week.

Yeah.

And sorry. It was just the fear face was funny. It was a yeah. And um then so I was like, why are they kind of like pushing me out of the kitchen? Because I need I need this job, but they never explained why. And then I asked my I asked the owner, could I work in front of house? And I did that for a couple months, and I was like, I can't do this anymore.

And I wanted to go back to the kitchen, and then they were like, Well, we don't have anybody to we we don't need anybody, and so I was like, fine, fuck it, I'll leave. And so then I left, and then I was spent the next four years at Belfry.

And that was fantastic. I fucking love that job.

Yeah, that was a good job, and that's how you met Claire.

But then we became a good one.

Um, but no, I love and it's great because I can talk about Belfry because now not even the same owner anymore.

Yeah, because I'm just spewing out beer snobs, bell for any of that means. Okay, well, can I go first?

Alright, so I started out at Domino's and Oh, okay, we're going to No, just give me a second. Okay. So yeah, I started at Domino's and I went to when I was in college, I was at Beer Snobs, and I went to a technical college for my culinary arts degree and spent the next three years doing that, failing classes, having to redo them. You're making a weird face.

No, I just feel that because I also had to fail I failed classes and had to retake them.

I was not a good student, like at all.

And um then after college I went to um I worked several restaurant jobs. I went to there was a place, there used to be a place in a kind of walk called Coco's, they're now closed. Um I did Belfry for four years, and then after Belfry's shit went to shit, which place got sold, head chef was fired, so many things. Um but all beautiful, decent people that I still talk to today. Yeah. Um and um then now I work at the inn in Heartland.

Which is uh you are in the back of house.

Yes, sorry. I work in the back of house, I work as a line cook. Um right now I'm just their pasta cook.

Yeah. But I mean like No, I don't have at at like at both There's nothing bad to say about it.

There isn't. It's just um I granted I I get paid more, but I have like no responsibilities. Which is I mean I know most people You just cook. I just cook. Which I I know to most people that would be like, oh that's great. Like you don't have a lot of responsibilities. No, like at Belfry though, I was prepared to be sous chef. Oh, that's right.

I knew everything about that place. And I was so upset when I never got the title.

Yeah, I'd be mad too.

And yeah. And then I went to the Heartland Inn and Small town that we live in, by the way.

Yep. And um I just I have no responsibilities and like noodles. I'm I'm very much of a control freak, and so I'm like, I wish I had more responsibilities, but I just don't. And there's no really need for it because there are other people.

Is that why you're able to text a lot at work?

SPEAKER_05 10:48

Yes.

And so like if I'm on my phone, if like usually when I'm on my phone, I'm standing at my station, my phone is like over here, and I'm just like I'll do this every yeah, yeah, I know what you mean.

Yeah, I'm just like my phone and I'm just gonna go.

Do you like leave it on and then you like tap if it's about to fade?

Yes. I do that too. And um, but yeah, I mean, there are other great amazing people that have the responsibilities for me, so it's like Yeah. There's I mean, I'll I'll be there for the next few years if I have to be, and maybe then I'll get more responsibilities and get more get more stuff on the menu. But for right now, I'm also just so focused on this, my outside life, yeah, that I'm like, I'm fine without the responsibilities. It's it's okay. Because that way I get to focus on what I actually love is being at home, being with my cats, starting my garden, doing things with my house, stuff that I that I'm actually passionate about.

Fun hobbies and yeah, stuff like that for sure. Um So what do you do? So what I do is you already know what I do.

And you're I don't you sounded jealous when I when I when you when you after you came to my party.

A little bit, but I can't stand the idea of kids.

Okay, so just to clarify, this is what I do. So for those of you that are in Wisconsin, Milwaukee area, I work at a place called Air City 360. And it used to be this place called Stonefire Pizza, which was kind of like I don't want to s I want to say kind of like Chuck E. Cheese, but like better. But it went out of business. I know Alex has been. But it went out of business a little after COVID.

Oh, that makes sense. And COVID wiped it out.

SPEAKER_00 12:53

COVID kind of wiped it out, yeah. And then they reopened it as Air City 360. And Air City 360 is essentially a trampoline park, it's an adventure park. Um, so we have trampolines, we have dodgeball, we have chappees, which is like the bar you can swing off, and then we have the jousting, and then we have a giant obstacle course, basketball court, soccer court, toddler area, laser tag, arcade, duck pin bowling, a bar, and like concessions. So there's a lot to do at my job.

But what I essentially do is I'm what's called an event coordinator. So as an event coordinator, what I kind of do is I, you know, I'm full-time, obviously, and I'm there maybe three to four days a week. And usually four days a week on average. Um, but you know, there's kids' parties that are done on weekends for the most part. So there's like, say, I think this Saturday, there's like 11 parties on Saturday.

But you also do like corporate events, is what I've heard from you.

SPEAKER_00 13:50

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm getting to that. But basically, like what I do is I kind of like coordinate things that are supposed to be going on and like kind of prep for those things. So like there's 11, there's 10 or 10 or 11 parties on Saturday. Monday, I was working and I called all those parties to be like, hey, like, you know, is this all the same? Are we changing anything? Is there anything? Do you have any questions? You know, we make sure we're all on the same page, that kind of thing. That's part of the coordinating job as well. And on the day of, I also host parties every now and then too. And I'll host a party and be like, okay, I'm your host, I'll take care of you guys safe. You have any questions, please feel free to ask me. So sometimes I'll do hosting every now and then, which is great. Um, but during the week, I do the party calls, I call them, but I also do like prospecting, excuse me. I do prospecting, which is pretty much just like kind of like finding places nearby that we could provide like an advertisement for us to be like, hey, like come have your event here, because we also do events for like schools, churches, corporate events, stuff like that. So like the other day there was a school event that came in and they had like 40 kids with them. So like I can run the show there too, and just pretty much just like make sure everything's in order, essentially. And then I have party hosts too, who are all fantastic party hosts that do a wonderful job every weekend. And I'm like really thankful for them because they are each have a party at certain times, and I'm like, hey, did we get this done? Did we get this done? Did we get this done? Is your party room clean? And then they go home. So they usually have like maybe like a three-hour shift. But I'm there to like usually like I love this this shift though, but I always work like a 10 to 6. I love 10 to 6's, I think they're a great balance. You don't have to get up too early, you're not off too late.

Um, I think we have summer hours now, but we usually open wanna say 10. I want to say sat Friday and Saturday, we're open 10 to 10.

But like during the winter, we're closed on Tuesdays.

Because it's like maintenance day. Yeah. Usually it's like maintenance day for like things to get done around there. Um, but yeah. So I'm an event coordinator. I handle all those kinds of things, and we're planning some more events. But my boss Emily is the bomb. She's like also in the events area, obviously. She helps me with a lot of things of like learning new things, how to handle things. She's taught me a lot of professional things that I'm gonna be able to use in the future wherever I am, and I'm very thankful for that. And she's also big on you know, heated rivalry, books, romance novels, all that kind of stuff. She's been a Wellworth damsel. Like, we get along great. And shit.

So that's pretty much what I do, and I love it. It's a great time.

I mean, I had my so I just turned 25 and I had like a discount there. So I had my own party there last week, and it was me, Claire, Sarah, and all of our friends, Jinx and Kaylee were there too, and it was just a blast.

And we both just finished our books. So we both just finished. I just finished Poolside by Taylor E. Weston, who have also been talking to as I read, and I'm over here like, girl, why are you doing this to me?

It's been great. This has this is the summer book for me. Like, this has been wonderful. I don't want it. I didn't want it to be over.

And I personally think like you can look at the book and be like, summer read. Yeah, it's a pool. It's yeah. Oh, this is great. This is a great summer book. I haven't really read a summer book because I felt like all of these are obviously some of them take place in the summer, but to me, like hockey, I automatically think winter.

Um again, I can't say too much, even though I really, really want to, I can't say too much. Um but yeah, I'm really excited for you to read it. So, how was your book?

Like high school, you know, if they want to read this. I mean, like, I don't know. I don't know what grades would be. Honestly, because there is sex sex references are in here for sure, but like freshman year and high school, like this is a book that you would probably enjoy.

And in the long game, you have Shane and Ilya, you have Fabian and Ryan, Ryan and Fabian, too, because they go on a double date to that pizza place, and then you have Troy and Harris that come in too. The only ones you don't see are Kyle and Eric.

So You know, it is kind of crazy. After reading the long game, it is so beautifully wrapped up in the long game for Shane and Ilya's story, that it is kind of funny that she's making a third book for them and why it was so hard to figure out what to do because it's like their story is their story was already kind of wrapped up.
