Explore the hidden prophetic lessons in the battle of David and Goliath !!
Welcome to the Watchman's Couple. We invite you to study with us the ancient prophecies of the Bible and witness their fulfillment in our modern time. Today we're gonna take a look at an old story in the Bible that we've probably all heard about all our lives. It's way back in the Old Testament in the book of 1 Samuel in the 17th chapter. Some of you know right off the bat this is about the battle between David and Goliath. But did you know that this story is packed with prophetic lessons that can lead and direct us in this modern day spiritual and physical warfare that we're fighting today? Let's get started. Again, this is 1 Samuel chapter 17. We're gonna start in verse one. Now we're gonna take it kind of slow through this chapter so that we can get as much out of it as possible. So first one says, Now the Philistines gathered their armies together to battle, and were gathered at Socho, which belongs to Judah. They encamped between Socho and Azkai in Ephes, Damim. And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and they encamped in the valley of Eli, and drew up in battle array against the Philistines. And the Philistines stood on a mountain on one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side, with a valley between them. Now let's just stop right there for a minute. Supernaturally and physically, this is where we're at today. There's two different camps. It don't matter how you look at everything, there's a camp that belongs to God, and then there's the camp that is against God. The Bible tells us that you're either for us or against us. There's no middle ground, right? So look at what this says. The very first verse, the Philistines gathered their armies together to battle, and were gathered at Socho, which belongs to Judah. The land that they had gathered on didn't even belong to them. But that's what invaders do, right? They come and try to take what's not theirs. Okay, so let's keep that in mind. Now, also, there's two different mountains, two different camps, two different mountains, and the battleground lays right in the middle. So, real quick, let's take one look back at who's gathered to fight. Right now, you got the army of Israel, and the word says, the armies, more than one, the armies of the Philistines. What do we see today? How many different armies, I guess you could say, are coming together to fight against the army of God? I mean, you've got the Christians on one mountain on one side, and on the other side, if you look at it through spiritual eyes, you've got the transgenders, you've got the LGBTQ, you've got all of these political folks and all of the left wing and some of the right wing people that are actually coming against God's laws and God's commandments. You've got colleges that are brainwashing kids, you've got schools that are letting the transgenders come in and mess with the little kids. The armies, folks, are gathering together to battle against God's people and God's way. We have to we have to be able to see that to understand very much anything. This is not just a fad. This is all out war on God's way of life, on God's people, and on our freedom to worship the way we want to, the way we believe we are supposed to. People are being locked up right now all over the world for just quoting scripture, for just simply quoting scripture. That is amazing to me. And it really does show that the armies of the Philistines or the armies of Satan are coming together more and more every day to battle against the armies of God. We're gonna get into that in another teaching later on. So let's let's go on with this. So the next three scriptures in this chapter talk about the champion, they talk about Goliath, and we've heard this all our life, but they go into a lot of detail about how big he was. They go into his armor, his helmet, his coat, how much everything weighs, the the brass leg armor and his weapons, his javelin, the spear, his spearhead, the helmet, and the sword. All of this is to show how fearsome one key word there, how fearsome and how mighty this challenger, Goliath, was uh when the Israelites were looking at him. I mean, they were looking at a giant. So what kind of giants are we looking at today in our life? What what is it that is so fearsome and so huge that we look at it and we think, man, there's no way to defeat that. There is just no way. And most people, Christians especially, are afraid of what they see, especially if the image that we see, whatever it is, is huge and powerful and loud. Like we said, our first thoughts are that is impossible to deal with. I have no hope. We must understand, folks, that is the illusion that Satan is using on us because we're thinking we can't defeat that. And that's true. A lot of times, that's why we have to have God leading and directing us. So what happens next? Goliath yells out. There he stands, this massive, massive fighter, and he yells out, choose a man for yourself and let him come down to me. That's the challenge. So what do we get from that? See, Goliath or Satan, they want to get you singled out from the rest of the group. If one is is out by himself, you're a whole lot easier of a target for Satan to take down than if you're with your brothers and sisters, your family, your your church family. Don't let yourself get separated from your family. Again, it's in in these modern days, in all times, that's one of Satan's biggest tricks. He gets people into thinking, well, I can handle this, I can do this. And they step out, and what happens? You're destroyed. You're destroyed because you left the cover and you left the safety of the group, I guess you could say. Now see, whenever Satan does make a challenge like that, he don't just leave it at that. He will keep prodding and keep poking, trying to get somebody to do what God has not called them to do yet. He said, I defy the armies of Israel this day. In other words, he's saying you're all just a bunch of cowards. And he just kept standing there with that probably that big smirk on his face, because he knew physically he was stronger than anybody that Saul had in his army. He knew he was stronger than anybody that Israel had, or so he thought. See, Satan don't know everything. He gets the big head, and that is part of his downfall. That's part of uh what made him lose his position of where he was at with God, right? Okay, so let's look at this. The scripture says in verse 11 that all Israel was afraid. Now what I want to know is where were their mighty men? Where were their big warriors? Where was the men that had done all these great things up until this point? Well, they were scared to death. And they were not about to step out there with this giant because they knew they were no match for this situation that was in front of them. A lot of the people today, we know that we are no match for a situation that is facing us today. It may be physical problems, it may be spiritual, financial, might be family problems, that might be problems at work, it might be just, you know, some sinful things that that people do that they shouldn't do. And I'm not going to call out any specific thing because we all know what those are. But the point is, our Goliath may be standing there daring us, just come to me one more time. Come out here and fight with me one more time, and we know better. We know not to do that in ourselves. So the story goes on and tells us how David actually wound up coming to the battle. His dad had actually sent him out there with some food for his brothers, and the first thing his brother said was, What are you doing out here? Right off the bat, his brother was accusing him of being up to no good, and David was actually just doing what his dad told him to do. How many times have we been doing the right thing for the right reason? And somebody that thinks they knows us so well and know everything about us, they just start accusing us of being up to something. Or, you know, you're just being nosy. And all we're doing is what we were told to do. That happens over and over all the time. But remember, verse 11 said everybody was afraid, all of Israel was afraid. But David, David, this young man, he couldn't understand why nobody was doing anything. Do we see this same thing happening today? Hardly no one is standing against these evil people because they're very powerful and they are very scary. A lot of these evil people and these evil organizations, they have the power and we watch that to destroy folks that try to come against them. They can destroy you financially, they can have you locked up for no reason. We saw that, we witnessed that all throughout this country. We see that all throughout the world. So those things that were happening then are absolutely still happening today, right in front of us. So let's get back to David. All right, after he had questioned this and he was, you know, trying to find out what was going on. Well, word got to Saul about this young man that said he didn't understand why nobody was fighting, basically. You can read on through there, I think, all the way up to like verse verse 28. David volunteered. He had absolutely no fear, and he was totally convinced of the victory that would come. But Saul just couldn't see it. He just couldn't understand how this young man was going to be able to defeat such a mighty warrior. In verse thirty three, Saul said, You're not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him because you're just a youth, and he's a man of war from his youth. You're just a youth. You're not able to do it, David. Saul had no idea what God had already brought David through, the battles that he had he had already won, protecting his dad's sheep. Remember the story about the bear and the lion? We're going to get into that in just a second. You see, fear blinds people, even leaders. Have you ever tried to convince somebody that you were perfect for the job or the task? We must tell people what God has done for us and brought us through. See, that testimony breaks the bondage of fear. It can renew encouragement in people. We must be bold about what God has done and is doing in our lives. Remember what Jesus said in his own words, if anyone is ashamed of me, I'll be ashamed of him before my Father. Luke 9 26 and Mark 8 38. Also Matthew 10 33. These scriptures show just how important it is to publicly declare our faith in Christ. It also shows how dangerous it is to deny Christ. If you're ashamed of me now, I will be ashamed of you before the Father later. We don't, oh Lord, we do not want to be standing in that position and hear those words. So what did David do? Verse thirty six, verses thirty four through thirty six actually David explained how he was experienced in the battle. He told Saul about the bear that come to get his dad's sheep and how he slew the bear, actually took it by its beard and slew the bear, also the lion. And that he said, is how I will destroy this Philistine. He is no different. Then in verse thirty seven, David explained why he was so confident, not in himself only, but more important, moreover, in the Lord, the Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the bear will deliver me also from the hand of this Philistine. There is no difference. This was David's mindset. And folks, that has to be our mindset. If God is sending us into a battle, we have to understand. We're not going out in our own strength, in our own thinking. We're going out under the direction and the authority of God Almighty. Now look what happened. Remember back in verse eleven, it said that Saul and all the men were greatly afraid. Now that he has talked to David, and David has explained to Saul exactly why he knows he can defeat this Philistine, something changed. This is the turning point in this battle because now Saul not only has hope in defeating Goliath, he is now looking at Israel defeating the Philistines. Remember when you decide to do something for the Lord, it don't matter what it is, usually your own people, even your family, will be the first ones to come against you. A prime example of this is found in the Gospels, Mark chapter six, verse four. Jesus said himself, A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house. This scripture tells us that the people that think they know us best, they're the ones that have a hard time accepting us for being like a vessel of honor, as having a specific job to do for God. There's an old saying that familiarity breeds contempt rather than admiration. And that is exactly what David was facing with Saul. But Saul was convinced, and this was the turning point in the battle. Again, Saul now has hope that there is a possibility of victory. So in verse 37, Saul said to David, Go and the Lord be with you. Friends, that's all the time we've got for part one. So y'all join us for part two because we are just about to get into the heat of the battle and see what all kind of prophetic lessons there are for us in preparing for the battle and being in the battle too. Y'all be blessed and keep watching. Thank you for joining with us here at the Watchman's Call. My friends, Jesus is coming back very soon. The signs for his return are showing up all over the world, even as we speak right now. Our job is to reach as many people as we can and warn them about his return. And you can help us do that by sharing these messages with everybody you know. That means the saint and the sinner. Everyone must be warned, and we don't have much time left. Y'all be blessed and keep watching. And remember, leave us a comment to let us know your thoughts and concerns.
