SPEAKER_01

Men who have heard their call, they are faithful ministers, not watchmen on the wall.

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to the Watchman's Couple. We invite you to study with us the ancient prophecies of the Bible and witness their fulfillment in our modern time.

SPEAKER_01

I hear what you call my fearing citizens, let each hard fare will be.

SPEAKER_00

He was told to be quiet. Nobody wants to hear from you. They pressured him into stand in his little place because he didn't deserve to be heard from. They tried to make him believe that he was a nobody and he had no place in today's society. But he had had enough of their insults. Today was going to change everything one way or another. Today we begin a brand new series on one of the most powerful healing stories in the gospels. It's the healing of blind Bartimaeus. I know we've all heard about it. Most of us have read about it, but did you know that there is powerful revelation in these verses that will shake you to your core, that will strengthen you and absolutely set you free? If you've ever felt the sting of being unappreciated or heard the sarcasm in someone's voice when they tell you, just keep your place. You feel like they're telling you, you're not worthy of my time right now. I'll let you know when I need to hear from you. I'll let you know when I need something from you. And friends, this could happen at church, it could happen on your job, it could happen anytime during your life. And if you've ever experienced any of this and you weren't real sure what to do about it, I promise you this story will change your life. It'll change your entire outlook on who you are, what you are, and what your calling is, and where you can be if you are determined that no matter what, there is gonna be a change somehow, somehow. Our scripture comes from Mark chapter 10. We're gonna start off with verses 46 through 48, and this story picks up where Jesus is traveling to Jericho. Now they came to Jericho, and as he went out, talking about Jesus, went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me. Then many warned him to be quiet, but he cried out all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me. Now right here is where the crowd tried to shut him down, like we was talking about earlier. The Bible says, then many warned him to be quiet. It wasn't just one, it wasn't just a few, it was a lot of people. This was pressure, this was intimidation, and this was the spirit of the age trying to silence a desperate cry. So let's break this down. And while we're doing it, pay attention and see if any of this relates to where you are today. The crowd was comfortable with Bartimaeus' condition, you see. They were used to seeing him blind, they were used to seeing him begging, and they were used to seeing him stuck in the place that he was at every day. See, the crowd didn't want their journey interrupted. Jesus was passing through Jericho on his way to Jerusalem, and the crowd had momentum, man. Things was happening, things was all going good, everybody was happy. Bartamaeus was an inconvenience. Your breakthrough, my friend, may interrupt someone else's schedule, but cry out anyway. The crowd represents spiritual resistance, see? This wasn't just people. This was a spiritual warfare. It was happening then, and folks, it's happening right now. The enemy always attacks the cry that threatens his hold. Intimidation, religion, shame, unworthiness. These voices whisper, be quiet, stay small, don't bother Jesus or the pastor or your boss. Don't bother anybody. But Bartimaeus refused to bow to those voices, and friends, we have to refuse the same thing. Now see this crowd try to control access to Jesus. You ever seen that happen in the churches? You ever seen that happen on your job? The crowd tries to control you. They try to control your access to moving forward. They were acting like gatekeepers. It's as if they had the right to decide who gets to approach the Lord or who gets to approach the boss to make that next move up the ladder, I guess you could say. Never let people become the middleman between you and your Savior, the main point. The crowd reinforced his old identity. You've heard this before in your life, I'm sure. Be quiet really meant stay in your place, stay blind, stay begging, and stay broke. But something rose up inside him that said no more. You see, desperate faith refuses to be quiet. I'm gonna say that again. Desperate faith refuses to be quiet. The Bible says, but he cried out all the more. He didn't back down, he didn't apologize, he didn't shrink, he didn't let the crowd define his access to Jesus. He cried out all the more. This is the cry of a man who knows if I don't get to Jesus, I stay blind. If I don't get to Jesus, nothing changes. If I don't get to Jesus, I die in this condition, and that's the cry heaven responds to. See, the title that revealed his faith is this. Bartimaeus didn't say Jesus of Nazareth. He said Jesus, son of David. What's the importance of that? This was a messianic title. He saw Jesus more clearly with blind eyes than the crowd saw with perfect vision. Here's what Bartimaeus recognized. He recognized Jesus' authority, his identity, his power, and his mercy. This is spiritual sight before physical sight. So what has this got to do with us today? Folks, this is not just Barnabas' story. This is our story. There's listeners right now who feel silenced. That's an absolute fact. Silenced by internal crowds. What do I mean by that? Like voices in your own mind, the ones that inside of you that says you're not worthy. God won't hear you. You failed too many times. You don't deserve mercy. Have we ever heard ourselves telling us this? Sometimes the loudest crowd is the one in our own mind. Silence by the external crowds. These are the family, co-workers, even the church culture. Don't be too emotional, they'll say. Don't be too radical. Don't take this Jesus thing too far. Faith that never offends a crowd hardly ever, and I mean rarely ever moves the heart of God. What about silence by past wounds? Now this was gonna hit a whole bunch of folks, including me. Some of us were hurt by churches, leaders, Christians, family. Some of us were hurt by betrayal. A lot of us were hurt by disappointment. You see, pain can paralyze your voice, but Jesus is calling you to cry out again. What about the silence by the fear of rejection? Things like, what if he don't answer me? What if nothing changes? What if I look like a fool? Bartimaeus risked looking foolish in front of everybody. But what happened? He walked away from that crowd, healed. This next form of silence, I guess, probably hits a whole lot more people than what we really think, and it's the silence of shame. See, shame whispers. Go hide. Stay quiet. Don't draw attention. Don't let anyone see your need. Shame dies the moment you open your mouth and cry out to Jesus. See, the call to action is this cry out again. No matter how times you've how many times you've done it before, no matter who's telling you to be quiet, no matter the circumstances, cry out again. Pray again. Worship Jesus again. Seek your healing, whether it's spiritual or emotional or physical or financial, no matter what the healing is, seek it again and believe again. My friend, your next miracle is just on the other side of your next cry. If you have found yourself silenced by any of these situations, any of the things that we've just talked about, will you say this prayer with me? Lord Jesus, give us the courage of Bartimaeus, the courage to cry out. Even when the world tells us to be quiet, let our desperation drown out every voice of fear, shame, and intimidation. Hear the cry of your people today, Lord, hear my cry, and meet us with your mercy. In your mighty name we pray, Lord Jesus. Amen.
