Yes, I said it. And no, I'm not embarrassed. I get asked this a lot. Usually with a slightly raised eyebrow and a nervous laugh. 

In this episode I'm getting personal. I'm talking about what naturism actually is to me — not the clichés, not the naturist resort jokes — but the real, lived, daily practice of it. And why I genuinely believe it is one of the most quietly powerful things you can do for your health. Physical health, yes — but more than that, your mental health, your body image, your relationship with yourself, and even your sexuality.

I'll walk you through how I actually live — what I eat, how I move, how I sleep, how I think about my body — and how naturism threads through all of it in ways I never could have predicted when I started out.

This isn't a lecture. It isn't a sales pitch for getting your kit off.

It's just me, being honest, about something I love deeply — and why I think more people would benefit from at least considering it.

Is naturism and nudity more broadly actually healthy? Hey, welcome back. This is Slavic Uncovered, and if you're new here, firstly, hello, lovely to have you. And secondly, just so you know, on this podcast we take one topic and we look at it through the lens of naturism. Because naturism for me touches everything. Health, relationships, food, sleep, sexuality, confidence, nature, all of it. So every episode we pick a theme and we go there. And today's theme, health. Specifically, is naturism and nudity more broadly actually healthy? Now before you close this or nudge whoever you're listening with and say, I told you this podcast was weird, just stay with me, because by the end of this, you might be surprised. And if not, well, at least I hope you'll have been entertained. So, is naturism healthy? Is nudity healthy? For me, yes. Genuinely, deeply, yes. But probably not in the way you're imagining right now. So whatever picture just popped into your head, set it aside for a moment. We'll get there, I promise. Right, so before we get into the health side of it, I think it helps to be clear what I mean by naturism. Because people often use naturism and nudism as if they mean exactly the same thing. Sometimes they do, sometimes not quite. In places like America, nudism has often meant social nudity, being unclothes in clubs, resorts, communities, spaces where people are simply comfortable without clothes. Fair enough, perfectly valid. In Europe, and this is more where I'm coming from, naturism often had a slightly wider meaning. More connected to nature, simplicity, fresh air, outdoor life, and a back-to-basics way of living. Less look, no clothes, and more look, no clothes, and also less chemicals in my breakfast. For some people today, naturism just means being comfortable nude at home. Cooking, cleaning, reading, pottering around. For others, it means beaches, spas, lakes, holidays. For me, it means moving closer to what feels natural in a wider sense. Natural environments, natural food, natural rhythms, and a more honest relationship with the body and mind you actually live in every day. It's a lifestyle more than a dress code. Or, well, a lack of one. Now here's something obvious that still needs saying. We each get one body, one mind. That's it. And life goes fast, really fast. Yet many people live as though replacements are quietly available somewhere. New knees arriving tomorrow, fresh back ordered online, new nervous system on express delivery. They're not, sadly. Modern life makes it very easy to lose touch with yourself. Processed food, poor sleep, constant stress, too much screen time, always rushing somewhere. It builds up slowly. Then people feel flat, tired, tense, foggy, and start treating that as normal. That low energy becomes just how I am now. That stress becomes my usual. That poor sleep becomes getting older. And I think that's a shame. For me, naturism is part of pushing back against that drift. Because without clothing, there's less hiding, less pretending not to notice how you actually feel. You see yourself more honestly. You feel posture, tension, bloating, tiredness, stiffness. You become more aware. And awareness often leads to better choices. Not shame, not punishment, just awareness. And the same goes for the mind. Mental and physical health are not separate things. They affect each other all day long. Poor sleep affects mood. Stress affects digestion. Body insecurity affects confidence. Anxiety affects everything. So when I say naturism can be healthy, I don't just mean skin and sunshine. I mean the whole picture. Now physically, no, naturism is not magic. It won't replace exercise, healthy food, or proper medical care. Anyone saying otherwise is probably selling something expensive in a jar. But it can help in quieter ways. Without tight waistbands, rough seams, or synthetic fabrics making everything warmer than it needs to be, skin can breathe more easily. There may be less rubbing, less irritation, less discomfort. You also notice temperature more naturally. You open a window, move around more, step outside, sit in the sun for ten minutes instead of staying indoors feeling sluggish. And movement often feels freer too. Clothing restricts more than people realize. I mean, have you ever tried putting socks on when you've already got skinny jeans on? Exactly. Without clothing, the body often moves more freely. Posture can improve. You feel more connected to your own body. And then there's sunlight. Sensible sunlight, obviously, not turning yourself into leather by lunchtime. But light on skin, fresh air, natural rhythms, these things matter. But if I'm honest, the mental side is the bigger one. So many people, especially women, but not only women, carry stress about how their body looks almost every day. Too big, too small, too old, too soft, too this, too that. Social media has made it worse by showing edited bodies, filtered bodies, posed bodies, fake normal bodies. Nature of spaces can quietly challenge that because you see real bodies, young bodies, older bodies, slim bodies, larger bodies, scarred bodies, disabled bodies, bodies after childbirth, bodies after surgery, bodies that have simply lived real lives. And after a while something shifts. The body stops being a performance. It becomes a normal human thing again. Comparison can soften. Shame can soften. Pressure can soften. That matters a lot. And yes, since some of you were waiting for this part, naturism is not automatically sexual. That surprises people because culture often links nudity and sex so tightly. But they are not the same thing. In fact, a person in sexy underwear can often look far more sexual than someone simply naked and making tea in the kitchen. When nudity stops meaning performance, people often become calmer around bodies in general, their own and other people's. Less panic, less obsession, more balance. Now for me, naturism also fits into daily habits. It doesn't sit alone. I try to eat food close to its natural form most of the time. Eggs, fruit, oats, vegetables, yogurt, nuts, good protein, simple meals. Not perfection, real life still happens, but a good baseline. I often walk in the morning before breakfast, outdoors, fresh air, moving early, head clear before the day gets noisy. It helps physically and mentally. I sleep nude, usually in a cool room, and I try not to eat too close to bedtime. That makes a real difference for sleep quality. And better sleep improves almost everything. Mood, patience, energy, hormones, decision making. There are also days where I wake up grumpy, tired, and unimpressed with the world. Important to mention, I'm still human. Then there's nature itself, and I think this is the heart of it. Grass under bare feet, sun on skin, air moving around you, water, trees, open space. Even sitting quietly by an open window can help. It is genuinely harder to feel overwhelmed while standing barefoot in sunshine. Not impossible, but harder. And health is not only numbers on paper. Blood pressure, weight, steps, cholesterol. Those things matter, yes. But health is also how life feels from the inside. Can you relax? Can you feel present? Can you enjoy a morning? Can you notice simple good things? Warm sunlight through a window, a calm cup of tea, a body that carried you through another full day. Naturism for me helps bring attention back to those things. So, is naturism healthy? It can be, but not automatically and not by itself. If it only means being naked sometimes, then maybe it's simply comfortable, freeing, enjoyable, which is fine. But when it becomes part of a wider lifestyle, real food, movement, proper rest, body awareness, connection to nature, gratitude, mental balance, then yes, I believe it can be genuinely healthy. It just fits beautifully into that kind of life. For me, that's exactly what it is. I feel more grounded, more myself, more aware, and honestly, better. So that's today's episode.
