SPEAKER_00

Welcome to Mist the Boat, a Survivor First Watch podcast. I'm Lucas, a survivor newbie, experiencing the show for the first time. This week, Survivor 50 episode 9, I deserve all of this. And to discuss this episode, I am joined by an extra special guest host, Lena Kanatzer from Slay, a queer buffy podcast. Thank you. Thank you.

SPEAKER_03

Hi. Oh my gosh, thank you. How are you today?

SPEAKER_00

I am so well. I'm so excited to have you here. Thank you so much for joining us to chat about a very interesting episode of Survivor.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god, very interesting. I was I was honestly gooped and gagged. I was I was scared.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, this one is wild. The I mean, we'll get into it, but I feel like as soon as Coach and Chrissy are gone, the whole old school alliance is kind of gone. And so sights are set on a whole new group. I was like, my poor nerd herd have been staying under the radar and they are no longer under the radar. I know, I know.

SPEAKER_03

It was tough. It was tough.

SPEAKER_00

But before we get into all of that, Lena, thank you so much for coming on. I said a little bit last week about how you and Ian having conversations about Survivor on your recovering clique mini sodes was like my first education into the structure of the show. Having never seen it. But I would love to know a little bit more about just like your background with the show, like when you started watching and yeah, your your history with Survivor.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Um thank you so much for having me. I feel like my my Survivor history is like kind of similar to Mirjonh2's and Ian's, where especially like I remember my parents watching Survivor growing up. I have like very clear memories of Parvity, and I have very clear memories of sugar from I think Gabon. And like I but like I wasn't like watching watching. I just like have like kind of like sense memories. Yes, exactly. And then re-watching later, I was like, oh my god, that's that girl. And so then I think also like with a lot of people, I started re-watching and I started like I started watching on my own during the pandemic. Um, I remember Ian was the one who like started talking about it around me, and I was like, oh shit, I gotta get into this. And so then I ended up watching like 10 seasons in a couple of months. I haven't watched every single season. And then when I moved to New York, I moved with my good friend Caden, and we were like major recluses. We like didn't go anywhere for months, and so then we watched like 30 seasons of Survivor just us, like on Friday nights in New York City, like uh every single day. So um, I still haven't seen every single season, but I have very strong Survivor opinions and I love it very much. I think it's um definitely I watch a lot. I grew up watching a ton of reality TV. I love reality dating, I love reality game shows. I'll give like almost any reality show a shot. And especially in terms of game shows, like other than Jeopardy, this is this is the one. Like Survivor is um the one I I think has like the most care and love. And like um, I think it's just the best put together game of the bunch of them. So love Survivor, I love it here. I'm very excited to talk about it today.

SPEAKER_00

Good. Oh my gosh. I I love having a reality TV show aficionado because I'm very out of the loop. When you say game show, I picture, I think of like on ABC in high school, they had like the match game.

SPEAKER_03

It was yeah, honestly, I love those too. I watch Jeopardy every single night. Oh my gosh. I'm like big into honestly, I'm just I'm I love to watch TV. And I'm not sorry about it. Yeah, and you should not watch game very love that. Love that.

SPEAKER_00

Is there, did you say there's a player named Sugar? I've not heard of Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god. Sugar, I remember so clearly. This is like one of my only memories of Sorever when I was a kid. Sugar is on a tribe, and every everyone hates her so bad. And she's like this little girl. She's like five foot nothing, she's got this short, blonde, like pixie pinup vibe. She's wearing like uh like a leopard, like like uh tight dress the entire time, and everyone hates her so bad. I remember they sent her to Exile Island like every freaking week, like for the almost the entirety of the show. And then when she got to final, I like it's insane, but I remember so clearly being like, they're being so mean to this girl. And I was like six years old.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_03

She sounds sugar, and she she's a bad bitch.

SPEAKER_00

She sounds like a diva. She sounds like an ID.

SPEAKER_03

Honestly, they have they have um there are in like the recaps that they show you every once in a while, they have one of her. There's like a part where they used to do like a ton of wrestling challenges, and the girls would like take each other's tops off, and that was thrilling because it was 2005 and everyone's but she had like they take her top off and then she runs to the other side and she wins, and then she flips off the other team. So that is in one of the like recaps in the yes. So I'm sure if you saw it again, you'd be like, Oh, I'm I'm putting that together. But that is sugar, and shout out to my diva sugar.

SPEAKER_00

I love that. I've heard the name Parvity before. I don't know much about her, but I've heard that name. I have not heard the name Sugar before, but I love that. Sugar sounds like sounds like an icon.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, she was definitely an icon, and they hated her. They hated her for being a bad bitch.

SPEAKER_00

They always do. The freaking therapy.

SPEAKER_03

They always do, especially Oh my gosh. They always do. That's the hard part about watching Survivor, is these it becomes like a boys' show really quickly. Even in the year of Our Lord 2026, I like really struggle when it becomes a boys' show. That's what like keeps me from being a super fan, is I'm like, these boys, they really grit on my nerves.

SPEAKER_00

I remember you saying in your coverage of Glee quite a bit, like Glee hates girls. It sounds like maybe Survivor also has a complexity.

SPEAKER_03

Survivor hates girls in a very serious way. And of course, like there are some very iconic survivor women to come through this television show, but uh it is like I mean, like kind of unknown at this point that like the editing bay hates the girls, Jeff Propst hates the girls, which I mean I think that's that's a huge accusation to make on Jeff Probst. But did you hear about have you and Marjana too talked about a couple of years ago he was on a podcast? I love to bring this up at any moment, and especially on this episode, like such a huge Jeff episode. I think it's my please. He's on a podcast a couple of like a year or two ago, but it it or it was just like a radio segment, and they were like, why don't you do like a all women or all men season? Or like an all-men or all women returners season. And he was like, honestly, like if I'm being honest, like I don't I don't see an all-women season happening because if you look back, like most of the survivor biggest characters have been men, and he made an enemy of me that day. And I just like me, I don't know. Have you heard did you hear about that before?

SPEAKER_00

You saying it now makes me wonder if I've heard you talk about this like on one of your podcasts. Yes, because probably I talk about it all the time, but it's not something that I could have pulled from my own memory. I don't think Marjona too and I have talked about it on Miss the Boat yet, but that is like ringing a bell.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, yeah. So he said that and he made a m he made an enemy of me that day and an enemy of Parverty Shallow, um, who is one of my all-time favorite survivor players. And I think a lot of the women who have come through this show, I think took a big offense to that. Did he mean like I hate women? I don't think so. I do think though he has an he has a really clear bias towards all of the men. And I think that is clear in season 50. It's clear in honestly, like most every season, like um, save Cerie Fields, who is his precious angel, which I cannot blame him for that, but he I think he just like prefers the guys, and I don't even think he means to.

SPEAKER_00

I think that's something I even saw. I'm pretty out of the loop, and I'm kind of intentionally staying so with a lot of social media, but I did see Angelina's leaving post, I think, and she talked about the gender bias in the show, and it was not something in episode four or whenever she got voted out that I had really noticed, but it is interesting as we go, and Rajana too has also talked about like why are all of the men staying in? Why are we targeting all of these women? Like oh my god. I also think it's like for Jeff to say something like that about big characters. Well, who's been given the screen time? Who in the editing bay, as you say? Exactly is being given the confessionals. We have not heard from Tiff for the first like seven episodes of this season. No, and it's only been the last couple of weeks that they've finally been giving Tiff confessionals, and I think that I can see at least the trend here in this season. So hearing that that's a pattern is disappointing, but I I can see where that aligns with with season 50 so far.

SPEAKER_03

It's especially like, and I mean, I'm no expert on the the editing of Survivor, but especially I follow an account that like breaks down, and I uh you know, especially if you're trying to stay off social media, I don't know that I recommend, but they break down like the exact like someone like sits there and times how long every single person's confessional is. And to like Christian Habicki is a star whom I love. Yes, but to see him get like minutes and minutes and minutes and minutes and minutes beyond like even the next person on the list, and especially compared to all of the women, and then to see that he gets out episode nine, I was confused. And of course, he was instrumental in those first like he went to tribal every single day. Like I'm not like of course, of course, he was he was instrumental in all of that, but I was I was really surprised to see him leave this episode. Oh my goodness.

SPEAKER_00

He has very much been the narrator of the season so far, and so it'll be interesting to see if they knight a new narrator or if they are more evenly distributed after this, but which I mean he is such a great narrator, he is incredibly smart, incredibly thoughtful, incredibly funny.

SPEAKER_03

I love to watch him poop his pants on TV. Um, I he will be desperately missed by me. I think he's a star.

SPEAKER_00

This was an amazing season for him. I'm yeah, I he should be proud of his play so far.

SPEAKER_03

Definitely.

SPEAKER_00

Speaking of some of the characters of this season, I'm curious like how many of these returning players you had seen their seasons before. Like, is there anybody that you were really rooting for before the season started that was like this is my winner pick for season 50?

SPEAKER_03

It's Sari Fields for me or Bust. And I think that's probably like yes. Yeah, I love Sari Fields. She is one of my very favorite character, like characters, my very favorite players of all time. I've watched her on I she was on Big Brother a couple of years ago. And I've I've seen Big Brother on and off, and especially when I was growing up, we watched Big Brother, but I hadn't watched it in my adult life. This was 2024, I think. That summer, 2023, not sure. 2023, doesn't matter. She was on Big Brother. I watched Big Brother. That show is on every single day. It's like the love island of game shows. It's and it's a shit show. And I watched it for her. I I and I watched like I was watching live feeds just to get a second of her being silly. I care so deeply about her. She's so amazing on traders. If you ever give American traders a shot, she is I that I love her very much. So I mean, I care about her a ton. Um, so and I'd been, I was like, and she's never won. She's the greatest player to never win. And so I would love for her to win. I feel like my happiness with this season banks on whether she wins or not, but we will definitely see. Other than her, I mean, I love Christina Bickey. I love, I love Angelina and Mike White. I loved that season so much. Who else was I like excited to see? God. Honestly, like that's kind of a I like Ozzie. Um, I know Ian was like not pleased to see Ozzie coming back. I think Ozzy is sexy and cool. Um, so I was excited to see him come back. He, although he's been on the show like almost like seven times, like it's kind of wild. I don't remember. I think this is his sixth time. It's a lot of times. That is a lot, yeah. And also he is like not, I think he has turned his stuff around. Like, I think he's coming at it at a different angle this season than he ever has. I don't know though. We'll see. Obviously.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, that's a lot of times to have played to still not be very good at the like strategy. No, exactly.

SPEAKER_03

I would say that about a lot of the players coming back. Like that's yeah. But I think that those are the people who I was really looking forward to seeing. I like, oh, I also love Emily Flippin very much. I love Tiff. I really liked Q. Oh my god, I was so sad to see Q go. I really I think Q is so fun. I honestly, he could have he was doing numbers in my house. He was going multi-platinum in my house when that season was on. I really like Q. But yeah, I'm like ex- there were people that uh there were like uh that really wanted to go on Survivor 50 that like didn't get the chance, who I was like really sad for.

SPEAKER_00

Gotcha.

SPEAKER_03

So I called them like they're my friends, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They're like, what could have been the people who well it's funny thinking about just like the full cast, this was actually a thought I had watching the intro to this episode, the like with the theme song or whatever. There are some players in that opening montage that I'm like that feels like a whole different season.

SPEAKER_03

I was thinking that too.

SPEAKER_00

Q specifically, Mike White, like Kyle. I was like, they this is obviously the only season of Survivor I've ever watched, but I'm like, uh that that's not this season.

SPEAKER_03

Like I felt like a million years ago.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but then this was a question I had with season 40. They that's when they like shortened the game. The it became quicker, that was new era or whatever. Yes. I was curious if the seasons themselves got fewer episodes after season four. Like, did it used to be more, or did they just distill the longer game into the same that's you may not know the answer. It was just like thought I was like, because this is only episode nine, but I'm like, girl, Mike White, who is that? Like, that just feels like so long ago. I can't imagine if the season had been longer prior to season 40, like how you could even keep it all straight.

SPEAKER_03

I think that if I'm remembering correctly, and Ian is screaming at his phone listening to this, if I remember correctly, it stayed the same. And then a few years ago, they made the episodes longer. So I thought the shorter amount of time gave them more room to show you more of the players. So I don't think they were like strapped for footage to show you. Like they're filming like morning and night. So I don't remember it changing. I think the amount of episodes has always been the same. Maybe it was different w during like 2020, 20, 21, but I actually I wish I knew.

SPEAKER_00

Sorry, I know that's a that's a tough question to just throw out, be like, I know what the heck when you started binging this show in in COVID, were you not taking notes on how many episodes? No, I wasn't. I know you know I wasn't.

SPEAKER_03

But that's the thing is though recently they did like make the episodes way longer than they used to be. They used to be only like 40 minutes, half hour, and now they're like much, much, much longer. And and so and I know that that's like hotly debated as well.

SPEAKER_00

When I sat down for that premiere episode and it was like three hours long.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I did not know what I had gotten myself into.

SPEAKER_03

It's not overly like that. But didn't it go kind of fast? I was like kind of thrilled.

SPEAKER_00

The premiere episode did go pretty fast, and I think in general, the episodes 90 Minutes, My Wednesday nights, like they it's it flies by. Yeah, oh my gosh. So I let's get into kind of just like a beat by beat of the episode. I would love to hear your reactions as we go. First of all, we are post-tribal and have the fallout of Devons planting a fake idol and then quote unquote finding it. And the rest of the beach is not pleased with him.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh. They are like, they're mad at him like he like just like stabbed them all. Like they feel betrayed by Rick Devons for for pulling a stunt slash finding an idol, like they are silly geese.

SPEAKER_00

And for being too happy about it, like Jonathan is like, wow, that really changed your whole attitude. And I'm like, Well, yes, it's fake, but wouldn't you be happy if you found an idol?

SPEAKER_03

Like I love that. I know, and that's the thing, is that's Jonathan's whole freaking game, is it is cool when he does it. If he found that, he would be elated. And if someone else does it, they're stabbing him with a knife. He is a silly. I am sick. I'm sick of Jonathan.

SPEAKER_00

Girl, Jonathan. This episode, I have a he is souring for me. I he was like fun to look at. He was fun to look at his and now. Oh my gosh. Now I'm like, okay, sir. He's I feel like he's taking the place in that honor and integrity old school alliance that coach was in. He's becoming the kind of new de facto leader. And he's actually, for me, taking the place of like villain for for the season. I'm like, Jonathan, I need you to chill. This is not uh like you said, it's it's okay if he does it. He will scheme and manipulate and get, for example, to get D out, and then he's mad at Christian this episode because Christian told him he was writing down Devin's name. Jonathan is the only person who wrote down Devin's and Aubrey last week. Why is he not mad at Joe and at Steph and the rest of his alliance?

SPEAKER_03

Like and that drove me nuts. Like he's like, Christian betrayed me last night. I'm like, are you did Stephanie not betray you? I'm so confused by this. I'm so confused by this. And not to mention he just did this like six nights ago. Like with D and with um I'm so horrible on the city.

SPEAKER_00

Camilla when they got Camilla, exactly.

SPEAKER_03

Because that's the thing, is it's okay when he does it, when Christian Hibicke and the rest of his alliance flip, it's Christian who has betrayed Jonathan. Jonathan, I'm sick of your butt.

SPEAKER_00

And it was literally everyone. Jonathan was the only person to not vote for Coach and Chrissy. Like, you can't pick one of the things. Not even Mr.

SPEAKER_03

Honor and integrity himself, Joe. Like, why are you why are we talking about Joe?

SPEAKER_00

And we'll get to Joe because he's also getting on my nerves this episode. But as as Jonathan takes issue with Devin's performance at Tribal, Devin's and Emily have a little kiki, and he's like, it's fake, it's not real. And I love how the next day Emily is like, I can't believe everybody believes this. She and Christina's like, and really, nobody at all is questioning whether or not it's real. They all have taken his word for it.

SPEAKER_03

I think that boils down to, and you probably have gathered this, but Rick Devons is like the king of idols. Like on his original season, he like they could not get him because he was like finding idols every morning. It was a mess. Like it was like Rick Devons versus the rest of the group. So I think that they kind of are taking his reputation as like you know.

SPEAKER_00

It's like confirmation bias. Like they're expecting him to get away.

SPEAKER_03

Well, like they're like, of course it's Rick Devons. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. But I think Emily is right to be upset with Devons. He's pulled this stuff, and I do think it saved him for the night. But especially because Chrissy and Coach are gone, and as Ozzie puts it at one point, the old school alliance has been burnt out from the inside. Like the the two opposing forces, like what was called the middle, the nerd herd, are now the main target because Devons is bringing so much attention onto them. And uh, as she says as well, like he brought onto him, Christian talks about this, will migrate to somebody else as well. Because he has the idol. Oh my god, they are gonna target the person with the idol and they're gonna have their backup. And so I think Emily is right to be like, Devons, this was my alliance, and now you are just shining a spotlight on us, and yeah, and for it.

SPEAKER_03

Be such a public, huge, huge, huge thing. I would. If I was Emily, I think I'd be upset about it too. Because I mean, that that's the thing with the middle is you kind of have to lay low and to like pull such a huge stunt. And I mean, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This and this time it is not working for them. They are mad. They are mad at Devons.

SPEAKER_00

It just was too flashy and very interesting to watch because there's been debate this season on like who's actually in the middle. Christian even clocks it. He's like, oh wait, Ozzy's the middle. But to see them and Sari actually playing both sides and laying low and just escaping all suspicion is like this is how how you survive in the middle. Devin says, That's what Emily Flippin wants to do. Yes, exactly. She's like, wait, why am I? I'm with two showmen, two stars.

SPEAKER_01

Christian Yubicke is a star, but because of that, he's a showman too.

SPEAKER_03

And that's the thing, is they are stars. I think Rick Devins wants to be loud and flashy. I think he has a reputation in this game for being an out loud player and a player who has to have all of their cards on the table. So I think it's only natural for Devons and Christian. And Emily Flippin is like, get me out of here.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she's like, wait, I take it back. Like, yeah, let me let me lay low somewhere. So there's a lot of fallout, obviously, the night before. The next day, Ozzie and Joe and Ceree are on the beach, and Joe is still Devin's number one hater.

SPEAKER_03

He they have not this scene.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. They have not patched it up since their earlier fight this season. And he is reenacting Devin's performance, which I thought was was pretty good.

SPEAKER_03

I love that part so much. Something I don't know. I love to see, like, obviously, like they're humans the whole time, but especially like them all laughing together. I feel like it's I don't know. I'm just like, oh my god, the stars are just like us. They're like, you know, making fun of their friends and having fun on the beach at like 6 a.m. Like as the sun rises. I I I was so I was so charmed by that trio laughing with each other. I really, I really thought that was sweet. And also, I love the Devons and and Joe beef. I think it's silly, and I love to watch it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, this is it's good drama between between the two of them.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like this is where Siri then outlines like her alliances, and she's like, you know, I'm with Joe and Steph and Jonathan, but I've also got Ozzy and Rizzo, and then I've also got the original Sila 4 with Christian and Emily. She's like, come to think of it, I'm kind of in an alliance with everyone.

SPEAKER_03

That's the thing for people with eyes to see, and like all these middle haters, like they actually they don't, they don't know what's up. They don't know what's up. Because I think like that's the charm of Cari. I think to even have her smile upon you for a minute, I think it's so easy to forget her her charm, her power. She is everything.

SPEAKER_00

Clearly, in that, I mean, she is such a queen. She won me over last episode. But when Dee was still here, and D was like, the one piece of advice my friend gave me was to get out Siri when you have the chance. And nobody, nobody recognizes the threat level of this woman who is probably gonna win the season, which good for her, that is her game.

SPEAKER_03

But she better. Dang. And that's the thing, is I think I don't know, she has a way where, and I think we've seen it a little bit this season where people will kind of get wise to anything even surrounding her. We see it in this episode with Ozzy, just the last episode with Rizzo, and then in the first episode with her, where she is like, oh, that's not happening, and has a power over people where she can just redirect in such a beautiful way and make it seem like it's the best, most perfect option and their own idea. It's gorgeous.

SPEAKER_00

When we'll get there, when Emily starts targeting Ozzie, the way Siri I know she's like, yeah, that sounds great. The way Siri then has Tiff becoming her like proxy, and Tiff is suddenly like, I need to get her out, I can't play with her one more day. And it's like this is Sari having like instilled the animosity in Tiff, but she gets them all to do her bidding, and as soon as somebody targets, like you said, Rizzo or Ozzie, none of them realizing that that's her alliance.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

If they are signing their own death warrant, like you are putting your head on the guillotine when you tell Siri that you're aiming for one of her alliances.

SPEAKER_03

And that's something so wonderful about being like an audience member with a player like her, where she is so good at, and I mean, I'm certain she is a person who's also getting to know these people honestly, that they like they are so certain that they are all in with Sari that they have no idea who her alliance actually is. Like she is that genuine and wonderful.

SPEAKER_00

That's such a good point, is that they all think that Sari sees them as one of their newer ones just because she has built that relationship with each one of them. And so they don't know that they can't trust her.

SPEAKER_03

Oopsie, sorry. Sorry, Christian.

SPEAKER_00

Speaking of Emily being like, get me out of the nerd herd, Aubrey actually does it. She goes over to Jonathan and she's like, I do not want to be lumped in with Devons just because we played on the same season. Like, please, she's basically saying, like, take me with you. Let me let me jump ship.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_03

And mutineering.

SPEAKER_00

She's smart too, because he is, they lost Coach and Chrissy. Their alliance is kind of, as Ozzy said, burnt out from the inside. So she has identified, unfortunately, I think the right person to go to.

SPEAKER_03

The godfather to be like Oh my gosh, yes, cat in his lab.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh. 100%. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_03

I agree. I think it's a smart move. It's not the choice that I would make. But I definitely see where Aubrey's coming from. I think it's the I think it's the right move for her.

SPEAKER_00

For her game, which she's somebody who's sticking around and doing better at this point than I would have expected. Like this is the right time for like the rat to jump ship. And for her game, it's not what I would do, but like it is probably.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh. Especially to like go to Jonathan and be like, no one is gonna see this coming. I was like, Aubrey, you're making me sick. Get away from him. Get away from her. Get a job. Go away, Aubrey. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

Speaking of the little beef between Joe and Devons, him going to quote unquote apologize to Devons is so stupid when he's like, I didn't write your name down. And Devons is like, yeah, but you were going to until I found the idol. Like, I've I'm not stupid. This is a great example of this honor and integrity tribe, like outright lying. And again, that is part of the game, but he makes such a big fuss about it when it happens to him. Joe, I know, on the whole, I enjoyed his like gameplay, maybe this episode, but he's frustrating on that, just like the whole honor and integrity tribe is a little frustrating.

SPEAKER_03

That's the thing, is his season, season 48, like almost ruined Survivor for me. And I think that Joe is certainly like I've seen so much, and like, you know, we got to know him so much in season 48, and I can tell he's a wonderful person. And like seeing him laugh with Cerie and Ozzy, and like those moments of seeing his heart, I'm like, I can tell that this is coming from an honorful and in in in you know, in a place of integrity. Like, I like I think this is truthful, but it sure drives me crazy in a game of Survivor. I think to like put so much morality on like a board game that y'all are playing, I think is silly, silly, silly and really does not align with my personal view of Survivor. And his season got really, really crazy for me.

SPEAKER_00

Gotcha, because of all of the like morality, as you're saying.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly. And I think that something that's different about this season is we have people like you know Devons who are actively pushing back on that, and like Emily Flippin, who are like, oh, okay, that will, and even Christian, like trying to like wrangle him. I think that's silly and fun. So I think that that is really needed with a personality like his because I don't like necessarily like hate it. It's just when he can convince 10 other people that anyone who lies is dead on arrival, and like you know, anyone who can play strategically like isn't, you know, isn't worth I don't know. Yeah, I just don't like that attitude.

SPEAKER_00

When he has too much power, like it's one thing when he's exactly just a member of the beach, but if he takes over like Jonathan's position, for example, like if he became the new de facto leader of that tribe, I can see that getting to be a little too much.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We will definitely see.

SPEAKER_00

Jonathan, speaking of cat in his lap, godfather, he is all up on his high horse when Christian tries to come and apologize to him and Steph. And he's like, Well, after you blindsided me last night, how am I gonna be able to trust you? How can we get there to work together again in the future?

SPEAKER_03

Yawn, yawn, yawn. I he drives me nuts. I'm I need him gone and mad.

SPEAKER_00

I love Christian. This is one of a couple times this episode where I'm like, dude, you lost the game yourself. Like this, he offers up his shot in the dark. He's gonna, he's gonna tell Emily later that Jonathan asked him for his shot in the dark, but he he did not. Christian offered it up.

SPEAKER_03

And that's the thing, is like it worked with Ozzie. Why would it work with Jonathan?

SPEAKER_00

Jonathan is a freak, and Ozzy asked for it, like that was Ozzie's kind of ridiculous request. And he's like, Well, I placated Ozzie by doing this, so I'm going to offer it.

SPEAKER_03

I cannot deal with this. I cannot deal with this. I like I would I I felt like I was I felt like I was taking crazy pills. It was such a weird interaction to watch. And then for the everyone's attitude towards the voting out of Chrissy and Coach is so mind-boggling to me. And for Christian to like take that on the chin and be like, oh my god, here's my one power in this game. Like, why, Christian? Why? Don't do that. They don't take you seriously anyway. They're gonna still vote you out. They're liars and schemers, even though they call themselves honor in freaking integrity. I'm sick of them. And I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

They become even more it's so like mean girls. It's so high school, like so true. And when Christian is then going to Steph and Jonathan and Joe on the beach, and they're like sitting on the boat, and Christian's kneeling in the sand, and he's like just trying to like smooth things out, and they are just basically ignoring him. And so he's like, Okay, um, does anybody want water?

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna I'm gonna go get water.

SPEAKER_03

Like see, moments like that are exactly why I can never go on survivor. If that happened to me, I'd be sobbing in the ocean. Yeah, I'd be having a panic attack at the water well, yes. And you can't get me back on the beach.

SPEAKER_00

I'd be filling up my water bottle with my tears. Like I would I wouldn't need the water in the hole. No, oh my gosh. So yeah, it's it's very much just those like social hierarchies happening and and them ostracizing him. In what world do you think that Jonathan is gonna take? Well, because this is the this is what's so frustrating, is because Jonathan pretends to be like, take me at my word, I'm honor and integrity. Yeah, exactly. And doesn't actually play that way.

SPEAKER_03

So yeah, it's so frustrating to watch. And especially to like have the way that Jonathan fights with all of these people is like, but you lied to me. Uh-huh. And it's like and I think that there's a part of Jonathan that understands that this is the place that he has like, he is like, you know, along with the honor and integrity people. So it like makes sense for him. Like, but he knows he's lying. He's like stirring shit up all the time. He's talking about it in confessionals, and like he doesn't even believe this. He has just made everyone else believe this. Like it drives me crazy. He's so mean and terrible.

SPEAKER_00

This is I don't know that I have any comment on this, but Jonathan the next morning says that he doesn't see the man in the moon. He sees a rabbit flipping pancakes. Is this something that you've ever in my life?

SPEAKER_03

Never in my life. I even was like trying to picture it and like, no, no, not at all.

SPEAKER_01

I anyway.

SPEAKER_03

It's a man. That's literally a face on the moon.

SPEAKER_01

It's a face.

SPEAKER_03

Like I've I've never in there, right? Who would ever look at literally a face? Also, the man of the moon. Like, that's literally like that's a nursery rhyme.

SPEAKER_00

Well shit. I've I've read Good Night Moon. I know what the Man of the Moon looks like.

SPEAKER_03

Well, of course, hello. Don't cite the sacred text of me. I was there when it was written.

SPEAKER_00

Uh 100%. Yes. So anyway, Devons the next day is trying to convince Cari and Tiff to go for Jonathan because of the D elimination. And I think he's right to say, like, Tiff will vote for Jonathan. She's not been happy with him since he got out D. This, and this is more Devin's gameplay than Christian's, is another inflection point where I think that they they could have saved themselves if they had tried to actually rally against Jonathan this episode. Because Sari is probably happy to go for that as long as you're not then where um Christian comes in and Emily comes in and they're like, vote for Ozzy. If you had just kept it at Jonathan, I think Tiff definitely would have been on side. You could have gotten Sarie. Like, I think this could have been their saving grace.

SPEAKER_03

Lucas, I think you've really cracked the code here. Like, this is where it all went wrong.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And it's like Jonathan would have been such an easy out for all of them. Like the target was already, like, I mean, the way that they were talking about like the targets moving, like it could have so easily have gone to Jonathan. Like, I don't think Cere is necessarily tight with Jonathan at all. Like, I'm just, I'm thinking about like they're like the solar system and she's the sun, like how they all revolve around her. Like yes. And that's the thing is she is not tight with him. Like, I think the only so it could have been so easy. And if Christian hadn't put his foot in his mouth, he doesn't know who he's talking to.

SPEAKER_00

She even ranks them. She says, like, Rizzo and Ozzie are my number ones. She's like, Christian's like number three. She's like, I like Christian, but if you come for one of my number ones, unfortunately, you have to go. Like, she's very much like, I did not want to have to do this. She's in her requirements. Yeah, I'm very that. And so if they had just given her, she is the son, and it's like you just have to placate your god with the like proper offering. And if you had gotten the right offering, which I think Jonathan would have been, she would have been on side and could have rallied the rest of the beach to get Jonathan.

SPEAKER_03

Because oh my god, so easy.

SPEAKER_00

Honor and integrity are reeling after Chrissy and Coach are gone. You could have kicked them while they're down, and instead they have coalesced again around getting out the nerd herds.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah. Uh-uh.

SPEAKER_00

Frustrating. Very so because Christian is targeting Ozzy, I do love when Siri tells him, she's like, Christian just sat over here and told me that you're the next target, and she has to tell him not to react.

SPEAKER_03

She's like, And he's like licking his teeth, like, I'm not gonna react. She's like, Don't even smile. He's like, I'm not gonna smile. Oh my god, like this is her teenage son. It's so funny.

SPEAKER_00

She has to keep her boys in line. She does the same thing to Jonathan. She calls Jonathan over and she's like, hey, don't react. You look like you're gonna punch somebody in the face. Like, you do not.

SPEAKER_03

I love this woman. This is probably what like maybe my favorite part of the entire episode is the 20 minutes that Cerise spends on the hammock, and just people are coming in and out. She's holding it, holding court. Exactly. Like she's the queen, and everyone has to like come. And then, like, the second Christian leaves, Ozzie is there. I was like, Christian, open your eyes.

SPEAKER_01

Ozzie was in the back of the house. I don't know even what's going on at all. Of them on the hammock.

SPEAKER_03

I know. Oh my gosh. You know, I'm sure they're having like normal conversations all the time, but like the necessary feel. It's like you guys are you guys are playing checkers. She's playing 40 chess.

SPEAKER_00

She truly is the queen. That's probably a better metaphor than me saying like offering to a god. Like they are holding court in front of their queen and they are like supplicating her to ask for her favor. And yeah. Unfortunately, they don't know about her her relationship with Ozzy.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I know. Her polyamorous her polyamorous relationship.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, her thruple, her polycule.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh. I'm so obsessed with her thruple. I can't even deal. How do you feel about how do you feel about R-I-Z-G-O-D Riz God baby?

SPEAKER_00

I know he's not in this episode a lot. The most likable thing about him is his relationship with Sari. Like I I love that. I don't necessarily love him otherwise. Yeah. And of course. Ian and I talked about this a little bit last week. Confidence is a great thing. I would be a much happier person if I had half of the confidence that Rizzo has. Like if I moved through life with the level of self-assuredness that he moves through this game, I'd be unstoppable. And so I respect that. I don't always love watching that. And I understand. He says that he is here to prove that he's one of the greatest players of all time. I do feel like you have to be better at the challenges if you want to say that you're one of the greatest players of all time because he's the first one out in the challenge, and he's just like, he's like, wait, what happened? And I was like, this game is both strategy and challenge, but I feel like, yes, everything seems to work out for him on the social side. Yeah. I I would want to see just a little bit more from him on the on the physical side, maybe.

SPEAKER_03

I hear you. He is one of those players who either you like I feel like the young girlies are literally so obsessed with him, like think he is so funny and so silly. Oh my gosh, yeah. And I think that you either really like him or you like hate his goods. So yeah.

SPEAKER_00

He's he's more nails on a chalkboard to me than he is like I love him. But I I'm like, well, Sari must see something I don't. And hopefully that is just she sees an easy target, but like Yeah, I think she sees someone who is devoted and like a lover of the game and like scrappy.

SPEAKER_03

I think he is not afraid to like lie, and he's not afraid to like bring her everything he's hearing. And I think he is the most wild card of all of them because none of them know him. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Why did I just picture like the the crow or the raven from Sleeping Beauty, like Maleficence Crow?

SPEAKER_03

Very that.

SPEAKER_00

Like I feel like he's very much like he'll go out. He's got his eyes all around. He will bring, yes, he will bring the intel back to her. Yes. Random, random.

SPEAKER_03

Because he's one of the four horsemen, heaven knows.

SPEAKER_00

Who who takes that place now? If it was Joe, Jonathan, coach, and Brazil. They're missing a horseman.

SPEAKER_03

Oh god. Well, they don't it's not Steph. Well, they don't like girls. That's the thing. They don't. They can like I like Stephanie as a as a character in this show, as a human being, I don't. But uh that's the thing, is Joe and Coach and all of them, they do they will never take a woman seriously because they are this Survivor's a boys game to them. So she will never be one of the four horsemen, God knows. And they hate Devon, so they're running out of options.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they're down to three. The three horsemen. I and I like that Rizzo doesn't take any of that seriously. Like when Coach inducts him, he's like, Yeah, coach, we're going to the end. And then he's like, This is the stupidest thing I've ever like. Yeah, I love that is endearing him to me.

SPEAKER_03

Is like you know, oh my gosh, now I'm just going on and on. But like please 48 was so honor and integrity, and to have someone in 49 who is like, yep, that sounds great. Screw that. I'm not I'm not doing any of that. You know what I mean? Who is ready to like give like lie to someone and say that they will do something, and then I'll actually be like, This actually doesn't fit in my plan, and I'm actually gonna tell all my alliance about this. Like, I think that that's fun. I think that that's fun.

SPEAKER_00

And speaking of the challenge, he's the first out of this wrist forearm endurance challenge. That first of all, this is day 18, and the bucket holds 25% of their pre-game body weight. Yeah. That is cruel. Like, I know, girl, and day 18 is also a long time for them to get the opportunity to win their rice. Is this the first time that they've had the opportunity to earn rice?

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

So they're also they've been starving, they've been losing even more weight because they haven't had the rice. And yes, that is so long to have to wait.

SPEAKER_03

I know. And that, you know, I this is pretty par for the course since Angelina, our queen, she was the first person to like barter for rice, and then it's kind of been baked into the game ever since. Rest in peace to my girl, Angelina. Um, yeah, this is nuts to like be 20 days out, not eating, not sleeping, paranoid out of your mind. I cannot imagine doing this at all.

SPEAKER_00

And overall, I actually really enjoyed this challenge. This is we get a lot of Jimmy Fallon this episode. I don't need the Jimmy Fallon of it all. But for it to be Survivor 50 and for Jeff to participate in the challenge feels like the kind of twist that like honors the game and the last 25 seasons or 50 seasons, 25 years, more so than like a brand collaboration. And so for him to be like, you have to beat me to win your rice, for him to also think that it's a a challenge, like he's like, Yeah, five of you have to outlast me. And so they I love they're all heckling him, and at first I was like, This is kind of mean. Like they're they're really but which I get. They're they're being mean to Jeff to get him to drop his bucket so they win the rice. As soon as they showed that montage of all this trash talk from the last 20.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh, I know.

SPEAKER_01

He is mean. This is when I realized I couldn't go on Survivor because I could not look at Jeff again after he spoke to me like that in a challenge.

SPEAKER_03

I majorly agree. And there are so many moments, and a few players have like talked back to him and be like, Jeff, please, like, give me a moment. But like the way that he is like terrible job, I'd be like, up yours. That is so mean. I feel like I would talk back in like in a way that is not appropriate to talk to the head of a game. I loved seeing that moment. Like, I think obviously Jeff is such a complicated figure. And I I saw a spoiler that he was gonna be in the challenge, and I was like, oh my god, he wants to be the star of this television show so bad. But I can't lie, honestly, to see I don't know, everything that Jeff has been, he's been their adversary and also like their friend, like, and kind of see that in like just a couple of minutes. I was honestly personally kind of really endeared by this. I thought it was like to watch like a gym teacher play tug of war with like a group of kindergartners, and then like for them all to cheer when they get the the gym teacher to fall over. Like, I was like, oh wait, why am I gonna cry? I thought that was I honestly thought it was really sweet.

SPEAKER_00

I'm glad to hear that from somebody who is like has so much more context for Jeff as a figure in the game and has seen a lot of this trash talk prior. I really enjoyed it, but it's also something where like I have I have almost no context for it.

SPEAKER_03

It would I guess though isn't that so beautiful though? Like it still like has the like you know, that fun and emotional impact even on like your first watch of Survivor ever. Like, I thought that is so sweet. I'm glad to hear.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, I enjoyed it, and I loved seeing he loses and he's like, I bowed down to you. This is so much harder. He's like, Who invented this challenge? What is this? And that is how I've been feeling every episode. Yeah, and so for him to be like, wait, this is we're making you guys do some really difficult stuff.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

It's so funny. Like, dude, it's Survivor 50. You're just now realizing that this is he's like, How many minutes are we at? Six. Like seven. Yeah. He made it seven and a half minutes, and Joe made it to an hour in his last season, they said. Oh, this challenge. I mean, to be fair, Joe does kind of seem like he's chilling. He's like, he's like changing hands, he's like leaning back and forth.

SPEAKER_03

That's the thing, is like this is grip strength. Like you either like are training grip strength or you're not. And I think especially with him being a firefighter, this is probably something that he's like sliding down f fire poles all the time. Like, I think he like and like holding big fire hose. I think this is something he's uniquely like um equipped for. I that's a good thing. Even Charlie in his season, he did really well on a challenge like this. And he is like, honestly, like when I was training, I was training grip strength alone. Like, and he was training other things, but he was like doing his like yeah, squeezing his yes, whatever those like yes, so yeah, I think he like Joe is uniquely um uh good at something like this.

SPEAKER_00

Aubrey, she doesn't win, but I love the moment where she starts like cranking it back, and Jeff is like, how are you doing that? And she says, Because I'm a psycho, and she you can see it in her eyes. She is like determined. Unfortunately, it doesn't last, but I really enjoyed that moment from Aubrey.

SPEAKER_03

I do too. This challenge was super fun. I really was enjoying, like, honestly, the entire attitude around the challenge was I think pretty exciting. I think they all had a lot on the line, but they're all also being kind of really silly.

SPEAKER_00

I think to your point about like even on my first watch through Survivor, this was one of my favorite challenges of the season. I think, yes, it has that like special air around it because Jeff was participating, but because it's just one task and endurance, yes, you can like focus on the characters and what's happening. Whereas so often those big elaborate multifaceted challenges, you were I'm just kind of waiting for it to get to the end and be like, okay, who won?

SPEAKER_03

Like I so agree. I like care about the challenges like the least amount. Like, of course, there are some that are like kind of exciting, but especially those like three-part balance beam to throw something in the air to doing a puzzle. Like, we're kind of, I don't know. I'm like, I'm I'm like checking my phone. I and I hate that. I would much rather see them sit there for an hour holding uh like a bucket up in the air. I think that that, like to your point, has so much more room for their character and like their emotional beats to come up. I think that that's way more exciting to me than a puzzle, frankly.

SPEAKER_00

For sure. Well, and it's just when there are so many phases or stages to it. It's like, okay, we're just waiting until they get to the last stage, and then that's what you're watching. Whereas like this is the one and only stage, so yeah. It's easier to to kind of track.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly. Because that's the thing, is I think it's only until the puzzle, like we always call me and my friends, we always call the puzzle the great equalizer. Like it like so much of that challenge, like those challenges are meant to just like stress you out and like make you exhausted. But like I'm chilling as a watcher until they get to the puzzle and it's a photo finish because it's yeah, it's tough. It's uh the challenges are are tough for me as a watcher. Not all the time, but I I wouldn't I much prefer prefer these endurance ones.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, this this was a good one. They Joe has to then pick since he won somebody to go on a journey, and instead a bunch of people volunteer, and I don't know why they decided to volunteer. I mean yes, I kind of get it. You have the opportunity to win an advantage, but we see here Christian wins the rock, paper, scissors match of doom. Like he is yeah, this is the third piece of like his fatal flaw. This is the the final like straw that breaks the camel's back for him in this episode, and it's a gamble, I guess, is really all you can say about it is like you volunteer for the journey, you could win an advantage, or you could really not. And yeah, unfortunately. Speaking of puzzles, like, and he's a puzzle guy, he gets out to this raft and there's a puzzle, and I'm like, oh great, easy.

SPEAKER_03

Like this would be easy, yeah. Well, unfortunately, I think this coming on the heels of Sari coming back with immunity and like like she didn't even have to participate in the challenge and she has immunity for the evening. I think I can't say that I wouldn't also volunteer to go on a journey. Um, but if my name was at the forefront of everyone's mind, which I don't know that Christian kind of understands how, which I think maybe he does a little bit, but I think not to the severity of how it turns out. If my name was being floated around that much, I would hope that I would stay home and keep eyes on everyone so they're not planning my demise.

SPEAKER_00

That's I that is such a big part of the journey, is that you are removing yourself from the social game for that time. And that is when you need to be making rounds. Even if you don't think that you're a target, you know that Devon's is a target, you know that your number one is a target. Why are you leaving?

SPEAKER_03

That is such a good point. Like, why on earth would you leave when your number one alliance member is on the chopping block? I'd be like, I have to save my bestie. Yes. So I literally didn't even think about that. That's oh my god, so wild.

SPEAKER_00

No, but I think that you have also cracked the code. I wonder how much of this is a setup with Suri's journey in the last, and then being like, oh look, the last time Suri went on a journey, like she just had to find a coconut and she got immunity and got to come back and vote. Like, and so they wanted it to be like, oh yeah, journeys are a great thing, journeys are a positive. Yeah. Just this one has this huge slap in the face if you lose. So I wonder to your point, if they it was more of a setup. They wanted to make people eager for this.

SPEAKER_03

I wonder, I wonder. Because I mean, thinking back to the rest of the journeys, so far they've just been lose your vote, right? Like Cerese was either get to come back and vote or lose your vote and stay the night. Like, yeah. Oh. That is so chill. Oh my goodness. Still doesn't have to go to tribal. Oh my gosh. But and also like Rizzo and Dazzle, they were gone. They were safe. I think Scott.

SPEAKER_00

Could have lost a vote, or she won like a steal a vote, I think.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, yes, I think a steal a vote.

SPEAKER_00

This one though, Jimmy Fallon. This is the Jimmy Fallon episode. He on my list invented the one in the urn, which is a terrible name for an advantage. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_03

Jimmy Fallon, my arch nemesis.

SPEAKER_00

I I kind of like the idea of this where you get to cast a vote now, put it in the urn, nobody knows about it, you have an extra vote. The thing is, everybody's gonna assume you come back with some sort of advantage. So you're gonna need to come up with some sort of a lie.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_00

But then the alternative, I guess we'll get to the alternative. I just want to say, poor Christian, his puzzle skills do not see him through.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, frankly, this is a horror movie to me. Like, if I was in Christian's position, I think I'd be screaming. Like, and maybe it's just like the foley is so loud, but I think it must have been loud. Like to hear those weights hit the water, the running of the rope, like I I'd be I think I wouldn't be able to focus because I was honestly, it was frightening. It was really, really, really scary.

SPEAKER_00

And the fact that the puzzle actually gets pulled out to sea when the final anchor drops is so dramatic.

SPEAKER_03

Honestly, I bet the crew underneath the water with the camera was like, oh my god, we've got the shot of the show. When they get the shot, that is absolute cinema.

SPEAKER_00

I wondered if they went back and rebuilt the puzzle to exactly the stage that Christian had got it to and then filmed that just because it was such a perfect shot, and you can see the logo is like just incomplete, but none of the pieces had disconnected. So in my mind, I like had imagined that they maybe I could see that being the key the footage, but if that was a genuine shot, like give them their Emmys. That is an incredible shot.

SPEAKER_03

Even still, they pulled a fast one on me and it was gorgeous.

SPEAKER_00

It yes, it was amazing. And then similar to what you're saying, I would have been crying so much more than Christian was. He just kind of sits there and I mean he's sad. I do, I was touched by his sentiment as I was tracking originally, and then they kind of went away how many times that Christian references his secret son that is his superpower. But we get another one here, and he says, like, you will fail. It's important to get back up. You are not defined by the moments where you fell short, you're defined by what you do after.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that is really sweet. I know it was really touching.

SPEAKER_00

That is such a sweet sentiment for his son to be like, and he says, like, he is going to fail in his life, and I do I want him to see this as like a reminder of what you do after that. That is very sweet. I'm tearing up. Good for you, Christian.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I agree. And especially like, I think it um, like, I think Christian is such a wonderful player, and I'm certain like a like a wonderful man as well. Like, and to leave your newborn son is such a a huge gamble, a gamble for a million dollars, of course. Um, but um, and then to literally dedicate his entire time, I think is very, very, very sweet. And even if it went poorly, that it still was a good experience, and that I'm you know, I I think that that's a beautiful sentiment. I wish I wish he would have got further. I'm getting ahead of myself.

SPEAKER_00

I just while we before Christian comes back from his journey, we have a little bit of rice drama from Siri and Emily. Oh my gosh, yes. Which I love to see the kind of like domestic squabbles that come from living on a beach with all these other and she's like, I have been cooking rice since before Emily was a twinkle in her mother's eyes. Like, I don't know why. She and again, I love Emily, but I was like, girl, leave it. What's the problem? You have too much rice, your lobster is too buttery, like, girl.

SPEAKER_03

I know, and that's the thing is to see all of them with way too much rice.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But then Emily to be like, this is the best day of my life. Like, she wants the rice. Your lobster is your buttery. Yes, you're gonna eat it. Like, and that was Emily, that was a problem with Emily on her first season, is like as soon as she dropped down on the beach, she was like ready to squabble with people, and she had to learn to kind of take a step back and to like you know, soften her heart to the people around her. I love a financial analyst Emily Flippin. This is a diva, this is an icon. I love her dearly. Um, and to see those moments where she's like, this I because I think that I would be acting the same way because it was way too much rice. I would be like, no, we cannot. Actually, this is this is just like me for real. That was way too much rice. To see R-I-Z-G-O-D with an entire clam full of piled high with steaming hot rice. I'm sure, you know, and I I do understand it healed them, but I would be the same way. I'd be like, this is way too much rice.

SPEAKER_00

Y'all, we have not been eating for three weeks. This is gonna hurt your stomach if you like overeating to be the that's the thing.

SPEAKER_03

I was there the night that Ian, it was Ian's birthday, and we went, we went to a bar in New York. I was there when we met all the survivor people. And when they were talking about, they were like, you it was it's so hard to win a challenge because then you get the reward, and then you're like sick, like for for hours and maybe even days after. And they were like, but you don't want to hear about that. I was like, no, you don't understand. I do want to hear about that. Yes, and that's the thing is I think that your stomach is so like shrunk and like thrown off that too big of a pile of rice is gonna hurt you. Not to those like bamboo cups they were using, those were not half-I mean, I don't really know.

SPEAKER_00

They called them, they were like two of those is a cup, and I was like, girl.

SPEAKER_03

I was like, I think that might even be like two cups. I'm like, I'm no, I'm no expert, but I think that they that like 17 like things of w yeah, like 18 cups. I was so confused by that. Uh I mean the rice looks good, but yeah, and it healed them. They all talked a lot about how they feel so much better after eating.

SPEAKER_00

The rice turned the tide, but that is the first inkling. Sari was ready to have a passion kick. She was like, I don't care about the strategy. Emily's about to get on my list just for the rice of it all.

SPEAKER_03

For her to say I was gonna write her name down if she said one more thing. That's that's my diva. I love you, Sari Fields. I would lay my life on the line for you. Gosh, he's so funny.

SPEAKER_00

I'm curious, especially knowing where this episode goes, Tiff and Devons. Tiff says you have to play the idol tonight. And he's like, of course, I don't go home with idols in my pocket. Of course. How far do you think that Devons is gonna make it on this line? Like, how is this gonna end?

SPEAKER_03

Oh gosh. Oh my gosh, that is such a good question. Honestly, this episode, and especially for him to promise that he's going to use it and then for no word about it to like I I couldn't tell if Tiff was like actually like I don't know, trying to like you know, give him good advice. Yeah, I couldn't tell, or if she was just trying to get the idol out. I feel like this, you know, this cast's attitude towards idols is a little um like let's just get him out of here. I mean, I'm not sure. So I can't tell. I don't see him making it very far. I do not see him making it more than I think I bet I bet two weeks from now he won't be around.

SPEAKER_00

That feels that feels right.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe it's not next week, but it will definitely be like the next week. I'm not sure though.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if he will just go home not playing the idol, if he'll tell people that it's not real. Like I'm I'm curious to see if the lie will be exposed or not. Emily, normally a blabbermouth, has not told anybody that the idol is fake. I hope she does blabber about it. Yeah, that is my bet, actually, now that I think about it. I want to see Emily tell.

SPEAKER_03

That would be so honestly. There was a moment like watching Devons talk about his idol and then cutting to Christian, just like so upset. I was like, shoot, I just had the thought that if I was Christian, I would have I would have said, Well, Devons is lying.

SPEAKER_00

That is honestly such a great point because there's it's probably here where Christian comes back. I think I know what shot you're talking about. Where Christian comes back, he has a public humiliation ritual where he has to read out the losing envelope to everybody, and they he announces that you have to vote for yourself, and then it cuts to a confessional of him just silently staring at the camera and looking so dead inside. And that is the moment where if I were Christian, I would be like, I'm throwing Devon's under the bus. Like they all consider him a very cutthroat player, but he's extremely loyal to his people. If he was less loyal, he could have survived this night potentially by telling everybody, like, Devin's idol is fake. Don't let him know that you know that.

SPEAKER_03

Like, yeah. I would, if I was Christian, I would much rather give up the the Devon stuff rather than my shot in the dark. Then I would be like, I have some I have some piping hot tea for you if you keep me around.

SPEAKER_00

Like that's a real gesture of actually exchanging information, not just your. I know. That you can't use. It's also a pointless gesture because you can't play your shot in the dark because everybody knows you have to cast a vote tonight.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh. I would Christian, you are silly, silly, silly for that. That poor, poor, poor man. This sucks. This sucks.

SPEAKER_00

This is a rough episode for him. I like his moment of like when you fail, you get back up. What doesn't kill you make you sh makes you stronger. But overall, I just I think he he had avenues to save himself that he didn't take.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Just before Tribal, and you've mentioned this, like the the target is really moving. It is flying around. Because Emily wants to target Ozzie as well.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And they have a dun dun dun like edit where they jump cut into her face lying in the hammock, which was I love that.

SPEAKER_03

Iconic. So funny. Honestly, I feel really sad about Emily targeting Ozzie. Because I feel like Emily, like most of her blabbing came from really wanting to curry favor with Ozzie and caring about like playing the game with him. And same with Ozzie, I feel like they were really starting something strong. And of course, I don't think we've seen much of them since the merge, but I can totally imagine how Ozzie would feel really, really, really upset by this.

SPEAKER_00

That is such a good point. I think I hadn't thought back to that time pre-merge, but their whole relationship this season has really been Emily being like, I am not just playing Christian's game. I'm not just being a part of the nerd herd. I am fostering my own relationship with Ozzie for my own game. Yeah. And so it's kind of a shame that she does kind of throw that under the bus for the sake of maybe Christian and Devin. Like, because the first half of the game, she's saying, like, I'm here to play my own game. This is actually a time, like Aubrey does, to differentiate yourself from them and cut your loss and like choose Ozzy over them.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's a good point. And that's the hard thing about I mean, I cannot imagine like no food, no rest, no nothing. And like like how like I feel like it's I I'm like these avenues are so clear, but I can't imagine. I don't know, is oh my gosh. To turn Emily turning on Ozzie is deeply devastating to me. I think it's just totally the wrong choice. And her too. I think she has, and maybe this will come back to bite her in the butt, bite Devon's in the butt. Because Emily knows. Emily Flippin knows about that's such a good point.

SPEAKER_00

Christian, yeah, Christian and Rick have told her. And so, like no, I do think I as we're talking about this. I think Emily's gonna tell the beach that I hope so. Oh, I would love that.

SPEAKER_03

I smell draw. See, I I love every time she spills the beans. I think that is such a a silly thing. Every time she does it, I'm like, tell more stuff.

SPEAKER_00

She I love her. She was kind of as Ian and I were talking last week. She was like my winner pick of the nerd herd. So as soon as attention started turning her away, I was like, please no. Like Chrissy just went out. I'm trying, I feel like I'm casting a death knell on each of these women as soon as I pick them as my winner picked.

SPEAKER_03

As soon as you say that you like them. I definitely see her going much further. I mean, heaven knows, I do not see Devon's going very far after this. I think he is playing really loud, really fast, really loose. And obviously, I think I'm nervous for Emily, but I definitely see her going farther than Devin's.

SPEAKER_00

I really hope so. She just needs to, and actually, we'll get there in tribal. She needs to realize, first of all, stop going for Ozzy for your own sake, but second of all, stop going for Ozzie because of Siri and his relationship. I know there's there's a moment in this tribal where Siri says, we can take the easy way out, we can follow the easy route because Christian has to vote for himself, or we can play Survivor. And then Ozzy says, you know, we can go for the low-hanging fruit, as some of my alliance members have said. And there's a shot of Devons and of Emily reacting to him saying that. But there's more repeating what Cerie was saying, and he's like, as some of my alliance members have said. I wonder. I don't know how people perceive those two's relationship, but it felt like maybe planting some seeds of Emily realizing like these two are closer than I thought. I would love for that to happen, specifically for her. I want her to get in on the thruple. Like, I because that is the that is the safe, that is the shelter right now, is being near Siri.

SPEAKER_03

That's the hard part about watching any show with Sari is and I was watching when I was watching Big Brother, my two favorite players were her and a girl who was like totally not playing on her side at all. And I was like, I need my two, I need my girlies to team up, team up already. And so I totally get that feeling about Emily Flippin and Sari, where it's like, I honestly do not foresee them do like getting together, especially Sari talking their squabble with the rice. I don't see like, but I can't help but pray. Gosh, I want them. I know. I any season there's not an all-girls alliance, I'm like, we're we're messing around here. We are not playing the game right. That's the thing is if I was on Survivor, I'd make it known. I'm like, I'm only playing with girls. Right. Because I mean, some of my favorite moments of all of Survivor are the all-girl alliances that really take over.

SPEAKER_00

They were working on one, and Jonathan took out Camilla and he always ruins my fun. Girl. Speaking of Dee, I have to say, she looks so hot. I love her.

SPEAKER_03

I seriously, I know. I was like fanning myself, I was like, oh my gosh, Dee, hello. Looking gorgeous. Honestly, kind of a killer spot to be number one jury pick and then to like show all your outfits. I would honestly, I think this is obviously I want a million, I would want a million dollars over that, but I think this is a good second place.

SPEAKER_00

She's getting her runway package in, she's getting to do the walk every week.

SPEAKER_03

Like I I would put a supercut of all these together and like send it to agencies. I'd be like, look how look how gorgeous I am. Because she is so gorgeous.

SPEAKER_00

And Chrissy is stunning. I was like, oh, so good to see my girl. She looks so good, well rested, at peace.

SPEAKER_03

Like, I there has to be a moment in a white dress like an angel.

SPEAKER_00

There just has to be a moment after you're eliminated and you're like, okay, it's not happening anymore that you're like, oh, I get to relax now. Like, I don't have to.

SPEAKER_03

I know. I bet it's like equal parts, relax, and also like tossing and turning. Like, where did I go wrong? But like the true, like, eat a burger and like like lay down in a bed. Oh my gosh, in peace.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, swim in a pool, like just enjoy like the resort.

SPEAKER_03

You know, back in the day, they used to have like vlogs or like behind the scenes of Ponderosa, like of the resort that they're all staying at. And there would be drama. There would be people yelling at each other. There would be people like, I mean, there is definitely, I think there's always drama at Ponderosa. I mean, these are people who like are voting each other out and then seeing each other like the next day. Yeah. And I wish we could get that. I want to see Coach like really crash out. I want to see Chrissy relax for for one second.

SPEAKER_00

I would love that. I would love to see like Dee and Chrissy both just giving coach like this.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, coach is also here, unfortunately. He made it to the jury, but um, I don't need to.

SPEAKER_03

There's this moment where Jonathan like passes him and like coach puts his hand on his heart, and I'm like, you guys make me sick.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, yep. When Jonathan goes to cast his vote, I was like, excuse me.

SPEAKER_03

No, thank you. No, thank you. No, thank you.

SPEAKER_00

When Christian goes to give his vote, I was really getting like, this is for Rachel. Why'd you take me off the schedule? Like he.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. Oh my gosh, very this is for Rachel. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_01

This is Jimmy Fallon's number one enemy.

SPEAKER_03

Honestly, Jimmy, Jimmy Fallon was getting a lot of reference. Like he was getting a lot of screen time this episode. And honestly, at a certain point, I I had to laugh. Like to dedicate his rage. This is for Jimmy, you ugly ass. Like, I love that. I think that's fun.

SPEAKER_00

Jimmy is casting a larger shadow than Billy Eilish has this whole season. Like for being in name only.

SPEAKER_03

Like, I know. I couldn't help but wonder. I was like, are we gonna see any of these idols boomerang at all? That's the question. Honestly, at this point, I don't think so. Not if Sari is taking these two to the end. No, which I mean, I certainly see at least two of them, if not, you know, maybe even three, heaven knows.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And that's really interesting. Would either of them play their idol? I don't I don't think Sari's even gonna let it get to a point where either of them have to play their idol. Like every time there is a bud of attention on either of them, she shuts it down so quickly.

SPEAKER_03

She shuts it down. Gosh, she is so wonderful. There will probably be a moment if they both make it to like I think top five or top six, that if they both have their idols, they can play them because they can only use them like up to five or six, right? So, I mean, we'll see though. But God knows Cree is like putting blinders on these people like they are horses, and like, nope, what are you talking about?

SPEAKER_00

We're going over here, and so of course, poor Christian, he gets eliminated, and Jonathan's self-satisfied smug little grin as Christian's votes are getting read out. This is when I was like, Okay, dude, we're I'm done with you. Like, I'm and he walks over to Christian as he's getting his torch and gives him his shot in the dark back. What was that?

SPEAKER_03

I you know what? I hated that so much, but I can't lie. These are two drama queens who have met each who have met their match in each other. Met their match. That's true. Like, I hate to watch it, but I love to watch them walk away. Like, they're like Christian looks up at him and he he's like grabbing the dice and he's like, And Jonathan's like, see, look how honorable I am. I give you your thing back. Look how like and it's like Jonathan, you are so driving me crazy because this means nothing. This means nothing. He's gone. He can't use it. It's now it's just a souvenir that he could probably get back anyway.

SPEAKER_00

Salt in the wound.

SPEAKER_03

Like, this is unlike awful, awful.

SPEAKER_00

Christian does go out with one last exit interview all about his son, which is very sweet. And he never told anybody. I wonder. Is that a fourth avenue that he could have taken this episode where he could have been like, oh, I'm just like, I'm really sad because my son's gonna see me lose the puzzle, and everyone's gonna be like, oh Christian, you have a son. Like, I would have been pulling out all the stops.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I would have done especially the Devons stuff, and that's such a gamble. I don't know how far that would have gotten Christian to like really like throw Devons under the bus like that, but it at least would have gotten him another week.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, and people already have a perception of Christian as one of the most dangerous players in the game. So him throwing his number one under the bus, I think would not have worked that, but I it might have saved him for a week.

SPEAKER_03

I certainly probably would have tried, God knows. I I and I mean I think he probably was. I assume I think a lot of people come into the game and like have something that they want to reveal. Like a lot of people will like hide their jobs or hide their, you know, maybe just something about their life and then reveal it at Final Tribal. And I bet that he wouldn't have given that up until Final Tribal.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But also, I got that avenue.

SPEAKER_00

I think that would have been shady, shadier than the Devon stuff to like use his new his newborn son as a guilt trip.

SPEAKER_03

Which I mean, it probably I mean, I'm sure I don't know. We'll Christian, such a huge player in this game, so sad to see him go.

SPEAKER_00

The the star of season 50, the narrator, like we are entering a new era of this season.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Without our our reliable confessional man.

SPEAKER_03

I I know. I wonder who's gonna take their play, like take his place.

SPEAKER_00

Like he's gonna be. I just wanna review my original notes on Christian's uh promo photo, press photo.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, yes, yes, yes.

SPEAKER_00

So he's from Tallahassee, and I I said, a Florida man, I don't think so. No, thank you.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I don't think so.

SPEAKER_00

And why is he wearing a blazer in his promo photo? Like you're on an island. So I had a pretty strong distrust of most of these men throughout my initial um. I think you're only right to feel that way. But I take it back. Christian was one that took me a while to warm to. I know Mirjana too loves him and she's been rooting for him from the beginning, but it took me a little bit longer. But he did win me over. I think unfortunately, as we discussed, he made some errors in his last hurdle. But um I I have I have some respect and some sympathy for the Florida man, and I am satisfied.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh. Yeah. I'm glad that you came around to him. I think he is such a, and I mean, I think this show you can tell he definitely has like a in this in this season, you can definitely tell he has a a real hero at it. And I think, you know, Jeff is trying to like dub him as hibicky, and I mean this is his second time playing. I you know, and I don't know. Maybe I mean Jeff seems so charmed with him.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I think if anyone comes back from this group, I could totally see it being Christian, but we will Jeff will definitely see.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know what you're saying right now. He's like, you seem so funny, but your words and the stakes are so high. And Christian was like, Yes, I am rageful. I yeah. Oh yeah, please. I have one more thought that I forgot to mention when Christian is on the boat reading the note from Jimmy Fallon. Is he not doing a Jimmy Fallon impression? Because I felt like he's trying to give Jimmy Fallon vibes.

SPEAKER_03

I can totally get. I mean, I don't think I know Jimmy Fallon well enough to know what an impression of his would sound like, but he certainly was acting for the gods and like gesturing like he was on television. It was it was really funny.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Oh, well, I'm sad to see him go. Definitely of the nerd herd. Like, I think I like him a little bit more than Devin's, so I I would have rather seen Devons go first, but I agree.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, even like I've never been a huge Devons fan. I think he's like I would love to see what season you go to after watching this. Devons' season seasons are fun, but I've never been like the biggest Devons fan. I've always been like, get this guy out of here. Like I was like, um, but I would love has Marjone talked to you about like what you would want to watch after this season?

SPEAKER_00

We have not yet discussed. I don't know where where we will go after season 50. It might depend on maybe who wins.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe we'll like Oh my gosh, that's such a good idea.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe like a little retrospective on on the winner.

SPEAKER_03

But that is such a good idea. I like that. Well, hopefully it's uh Sari, so you can go back and watch Yes. Um either, well, of course, her first season, Exile Island, or um you can watch the best season of this entire show.

SPEAKER_00

Which one is that?

SPEAKER_03

Fans versus favorites. Oh which is a returning season, but it's literally the best. Okay. Um and it's my favorite season of this entire show. So maybe if Sarie wins, I don't know. Just a thought, Lucas and Mirjana too, I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

I I say that. I'm like, oh, maybe we'll, depending on the winner, I say that only with a mind towards Sari winning. I'm like, yeah, I would want to go back and watch Sari's season. So maybe if she loses, we'll still go back and do a Surrey Venture season.

SPEAKER_03

I like that too. I like that too. Honestly, I would listen in. Like, honestly, looking at this cast right now, and I'm no like survivor expert, I think there are some people who can really like catch the vibe really quickly and be like, oh, Sari is winning. Um and like they're like accurate, so I can't say it with assurity, but honestly, I cannot other than Sari, uh I think I'm I fear it's like Jonathan, and I can't I would go, I would go into the past to undo anything if that's the case. But I definitely see Sari kind of being the winner, especially in this episode.

SPEAKER_00

It really she definitely feels like she's in the best position.

SPEAKER_03

Honestly, the last one as well, yeah, since the merge, and this is that's Sari's like she's not like a huge asset to like an individual team. Because like, you know, and of course, like I would be this way too. Like, I'm not the one who's gonna like help in challenges that much.

SPEAKER_00

But girl, when she was throwing that ball and trying to get it into the like.

SPEAKER_03

I was devastated and thank god she survived that night. Thank God. Oh my gosh. And even who was it, Savannah? Like, that was the worst thing I've ever seen in Survivor.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, Savannah, please, and she did it twice because that was when Kyle got injured, so she had to like go, they had to reach it.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my gosh, yeah, what a nightmare. Let's see, oh my gosh, yeah, but she's once she makes it past the group challenges, she's she's golden, and unless there is like an act of God, I don't see her not getting like to the end, just personally, that's what I think.

SPEAKER_00

I love it.

SPEAKER_03

Is she your winner pick still as well?

SPEAKER_00

She's definitely my winner pick. I I remain rooting for Emily of the Nerdherd and like Tiff otherwise. Tiff is kind of an unknown quantity. I feel like she's currently kind of getting carried by Siri as a vote. And she she has brought her game back from the brink after D's elimination. And I'm enjoying her gameplay, so running for her, but I love Tiff. I do think Siri's probably the most likely of the especially with Christian gone.

SPEAKER_03

Because I mean he was the star of the show up until like two, three weeks ago. I'm like, make way, and now he's gone.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. Well, I cannot wait to see where I'm gonna go. Now I'm excited. This was this was a big episode. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for coming on to join and literally share your beautiful thoughts and insights. Huge shout out to Slay. Let us know where can the people hear more about your amazing takes on on TV.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, well, thank you for asking. And seriously, thank you so much for having me. I love this project you're doing. Love you, Lucas. Love you, Marjona too. So happy to be here. Thank you for having me. Um, you can find me. Uh, I host a podcast with my good friend Ian called, and he was just here last week. I'm sure you heard him. Ever heard of Rahani? Um, and we do a podcast called Slay, a queer buffy podcast, where we are re-watching um Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but in a gay way, and we're having fun. And we've also done uh glee if you like glee. And if you want to follow me personally, you can do that too. I'm at Lena Lee Blonde on Instagram.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that always puts the remix from the musical in my head.

SPEAKER_03

Lena Lee Blonde. Sometimes I forget that that's what it's that and that's literally what it's referencing. Um, is my love of the movie and also the musical. And I just last night I remembered. I was like, oh my gosh, that's a reference. Like, and so I love that. Thanks for bringing that up. Oh my gosh. Thank you so much for having me. I love to yap about Survivor. Hopefully we had fun.

SPEAKER_00

This was the best. I love you so much. I'm so glad you joined. Um, well, we will see you next time on Mist the Moat.
