#57 - Establish Your Heart | James 5:8 | Built To Last
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Life gets unstable when your heart isn’t steady.
In this episode of The Daily Rebel, we walk through James 5:8 and unpack what it means to establish your heart in seasons of pressure, waiting, and uncertainty. James writes to people under stress—and instead of telling them to change their situation, he tells them to strengthen their hearts.
Because if your heart isn’t steady…
your life won’t be either.
We unpack three truths:
- Set your heart
- Set your focus
- Set your anchor
You’ll hear why stability is intentional, how focus shapes endurance, and why the promise of Christ’s return gives believers strength to keep going.
What you fix your heart on determines how you endure.
Get your heart right…
and you’ll last

Welcome \\ Daily Rebel Mission
SPEAKER_00This podcast is for the ones who know that we're rescued, but also know that we're resent. Save by grace. Sent to live differently. We're not rebelling against God, we're rebelling against everything that keeps us free. Every day, we don't swing our opinions, we sharpen our lives on the word of God, the sword of the Spirit, guiding us, cutting through lives, and leading us one step at a time. We'll talk faith, identity, purpose, leadership, and what it really looks like to follow Jesus in a distracted world. Welcome to the Daily Rebel. Yo, what's good, Daily Rebels? Welcome back, day two. Um, here we go, James chapter five, verse eight. We're in our series Built to Last, and here's what
Today's Text: James 5:8
SPEAKER_00the text says You also must be patient. He says, Strengthen your hearts because the Lord's coming is near. You ever notice how when life
When Life Feels Unstable
SPEAKER_00feels unstable, everything else starts to shake with it? Like your emotions are up and down, then your decisions they start getting reactive, and then your faith feels inconsistent. Not because life changed, but because something inside you isn't steady. I know for me, like uh my anxiety is like a meteor uh shower of thoughts. And so once I'm anticipating one bad thing, then it seems like something else pops in my brain, and then it turns into this domino effect where I just feel like now I can't control my thoughts, and that's where panic attacks happen in me. Um, and it feels like you're not steady. We try to fix our life externally when the issue is actually internal.
Why Everything Shakes Internally
SPEAKER_00We want better circumstances, but God is after a stronger heart. Because if your heart isn't steady, your life won't be either. So in the text, look at this text, it says, strengthen your hearts. That word
What “Strengthen Your Hearts” Means
SPEAKER_00strengthen, it means to establish or to set firmly, to make stable and immovable. It's not emotional, it's this, it's intentional. So James is writing to people under pressure, right? Waiting and suffering and being stretched. And he doesn't say, hey, hey, just change your situation, make your circumstances go away. He says, strengthen your heart. Why? Because the Lord's coming is near. That's not just comfort, that's perspective. You endure now because you know what's coming later. So here's uh so here's the uh a core idea of really this message is it if you're out if your heart isn't steady, your life is not gonna
The Three Points
SPEAKER_00be either. So, number one, the first thing we need to do
Point 1: Set Your Heart
SPEAKER_00is this is we need to set our hearts. We're gonna set a few things. The first thing we need to set is our hearts. Set your heart. This is a decision. You don't drift into stability, you you choose it. To fix your heart, you have to to to anchor
Stability Doesn’t Happen by Accident
SPEAKER_00your thinking, to refuse to be moved by everything around you, you have to choose it. So if your heart isn't steady, again, your life won't be either. So, what is your heart currently attached to? What are you setting your heart on? Because whatever it's tied to will determine how stable you really are. You can't strengthen your heart by a self-help means. You can't strengthen your heart by giving it to social media all the time and allowing the information overload to constantly fill it. You can't set your heart on another person. You can't go after codependency. Why? Because it's gonna determine how stable you are. Once those things are shaky, you're gonna be shaky too. So you need to set your heart, strengthen it. Number two, you
Point 2: Set Your Focus
SPEAKER_00need to set your focus because vision determines endurance. I'm gonna say it again. You need to set your focus because vision determines endurance.
What You Focus On Shapes Endurance
SPEAKER_00Your endurance is based on what you're looking at. If you focus on your situation, check this out, you're gonna get discouraged. If you focus on your struggle, you're gonna get overwhelmed. But if you focus on what God is doing and what he has promised, you're gonna stay steady. That's what faith is. So what you fix your heart on determines how you endure. So what you set your focus on as well is and what you feed your focus, it's going to shape what you're gonna become. So listen, what whatever you're feeding your focus right now, it's gonna shape either shakiness or it's gonna shape your endurance. So we set our hearts, we set our focus, why? Because vision determines endurance. And number
Point 3: Set Your Anchor
SPEAKER_00three, we set our anchor. Set your anchor, why? Because the Lord is near. This is the foundation. The Lord's coming is
The Lord Is Near
SPEAKER_00near. That means the season you're in is not forever. The pressure you're in is not final. Your failure is not final. This moment has an end. The trial eventually ends. This isn't just Jesus is coming someday. It's live ready, stay grounded, and endure with urgency.
Future Promise Fuels Present Endurance
SPEAKER_00The future promise could fuel present endurance if we let it. If you lose sight of what's coming, you'll lose strength in what you're facing. I'm gonna say it again. If you lose sight of what's coming, you'll lose strength in what you're facing. Set your heart, set your focus, set your anchor. Jesus
Gospel Shift: Jesus Stayed Steady Under Pressure
SPEAKER_00didn't waver even under pressure. And because of him, you don't have to live unstable, you can live anchored. So ask yourself is my heart steady or easily shaken? What am I focused on? What am I anchored to? Because stability doesn't happen by accident, it happens by alignment with the Lord. So get your heart right and you'll last. Set it, fix it, and anchor it. Because listen,
Final Application: What Is Your Heart Anchored To?
SPEAKER_00we don't live unstable, we live established. Amen. Thank you for
