#93 | If God is For Us | Romans 8:31 | The Great 8

Have you ever walked into a room knowing someone had your back?

It changes the way you carry yourself. You stand taller. You speak with confidence. You don't panic as easily because you know you're not standing alone.

Now multiply that infinitely.

Romans 8:31 contains one of the most confidence-building questions in all of Scripture: "If God is for us, who is against us?" But Paul isn't expressing uncertainty. In the original Greek, this is a first-class conditional statement that could be translated, "Since God is for us..." He's not asking if God is on your side. He's declaring that He is. 

That doesn't mean opposition disappears. Paul knew better than anyone that Christians face persecution, suffering, temptation, and spiritual warfare. His point isn't that you'll never have enemies. His point is that none of your enemies are greater than your God. When the Creator of the universe stands with you, opposition loses its ultimate power.

In this episode, we unpack three powerful truths from Romans 8:31:

1. God's Presence Changes Everything — God's greatest promise has never been an easy life. It's His presence. You never stand alone.

2. God's Power Outweighs Your Problems — Fear grows when your problems become bigger than your view of God. Faith grows when God becomes bigger than your problems.

3. God's Victory Is Your Confidence — We don't fight for acceptance. We fight from acceptance. We don't fight for victory. We fight from Christ's finished victory.

Ultimately, how do you know God is for you? Because He gave you His Son. Before Paul reminds us of what God provides, he reminds us of what God already gave. The cross forever settled the question of God's heart toward His children.

• What opposition feels overwhelming today?
• What fear keeps shouting?
• What circumstance keeps intimidating you?
• Preach Romans 8:31 to yourself: "Since God is for me... who can ultimately stand against me?"

Because when the Creator of the universe is in your corner...

8.31. If God is for us, who is against us? If you're reading the Bible right now, circle that, bracket it, highlight it. If God, if God is for us, who is against us? Have you ever walked into a room knowing somebody had your back? Like it changes everything. You stand a little taller, you walk with your chest out, you speak with confidence, you don't panic easily. Why? Because you know you're not standing alone. Now multiply that infinitely. Paul asked one of the greatest questions in all of scripture. Man, if God is really for us, who is against us? Notice he doesn't say if no one is against us. Because people will be against you. The enemy is going to oppose you. Trials, thorns, thistles, uh, you know, uh tests are gonna come. Paul knows that force hand. He's been beaten, shipwrecked, and rejected, persecuted. And he still asks, hey, if God is for us. Listen, the question isn't whether opposition exists. The question is whether opposition is greater than God. The little word

"If" = Since God Is For Us

if can sound uncertain in English, but in Greek, Paul is using what's called first class conditional statement. And so what he's saying here is it literally could be translated, since God is for us. Paul isn't wondering, he's declaring that's settled. God is for his children. Your circumstances may question God's goodness. The cross has already answered it. And Paul asks, Who's against us? He's not saying believers won't have enemies. Paul had plenty. He's saying, who can ultimately defeat the people of God that he's chosen to defend? Who has greater authority, greater power, wisdom, and sovereignty? And the answer is obvious: nobody. When Jesus said, All authority has been given to me, it means nobody, not even Satan, has authority over you. The God who stands beside you is greater than whatever stands against you. And if God is for you, nothing ultimately has the power to defeat you.

Point 1: God's Presence Changes Everything

So let me get y'all three points. Number one, God's presence changes everything. Amen. You never stand alone.

You Never Stand Alone

Throughout scripture, God's greatest promise wasn't, I'll make life easy. I still, I'm still looking, and email me if you if you if you find it. I'm still looking for the verse that says, all things are gonna go your way. I don't, I don't literally do not see that in scripture. That it's gonna be easy, comfortable, kick back. Listen, he says, I'm gonna be with you. To Moses, Joshua, David, the disciples, Paul, this this promise never changed. It's his presence. Sometimes we're asking God to remove the battle, and God reminds us he entered it with us. Peace isn't found in the absence of problems, peace is found in the presence of Jesus. So where are you acting like you're fighting alone?

Point 2: God's Power Outweighs Your Problems

Number two, God's power outweighs your problems. Perspective. It changes everything. You see, Paul doesn't minimize suffering. He's he's already spent Romans 8 talking about it. Instead,

Whatever You Magnify Becomes What You Fear Or Trust

he magnifies God. So listen, fear grows when your problems become bigger than your view of God. Fear grows when your problems become bigger than your view of God, but faith grows when God becomes bigger than your problems. You see, David didn't defeat Goliath because the giant was small. David defeated Goliath because his God was big. So whatever you magnify becomes what you fear or what you trust. Listen, hear this. I'm gonna list this out for you. Cancer isn't bigger than God. Depression isn't bigger than God. Your past isn't bigger than God, your addiction isn't bigger than God, your failure isn't bigger than God, death isn't bigger than God, nothing is bigger than God. Amen. Your battle may be real, but God is greater. So what have you been magnifying more than God lately? And here's number

Point 3: God's Victory Is Your Confidence

three God's victory is your confidence. We've been saying it for a long time that we fight from victory. God is for us. We we don't fight for acceptance, we fight from acceptance. So listen, the cross settled the greatest battle, sin, which separates us, death, which destroys us, hell, which is eternal damnation and punishment, Satan, the accuser of the brethren, they've already been defeated. This doesn't mean every day feels victorious. It doesn't. It means every day is lived from Christ's victory. That's a massive difference. You don't have to wonder whose side God is on. The cross already settled that. And when Jesus stretched out his arms on the cross, he wasn't just defeating sin, he was proving once and for all God is for you. The empty tomb is God's eternal declaration that he has not abandoned his people. He didn't die and stay dead like all the other gods. Buddha's dead, Muhammad is dead, Joseph Prince dead. Like, understand, like all other religions, their God, their leader is dead. Our God is not. He's up, he's moving. If God gave his greatest gift, why would he withhold what his children truly need? Listen, what opposition feels overwhelming today? What fear keeps shouting? What circumstances keep intimidating you? Preach Romans 8 31 to yourself. Since God is for me, who can ultimately stand against me? Listen, people may oppose you, the enemy may accuse you, life may wound you, but none of them get the final word.
