#108 | God Is Bigger Than Your Tomorrow | Romans 8:38 | The Great 8

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to live in tomorrow instead of today? Your body may be sitting at the dinner table, but your mind is already replaying tomorrow's meeting, next week's diagnosis, or next month's uncertainty. Anxiety has a way of dragging us into a future that hasn't even happened yet, whispering two dangerous words: "What if?" But in Romans 8:38, Paul reminds us that neither "things present nor things to come" can separate us from the love of God. The future may be unknown to us, but it has never been unknown to Him. 

Paul isn't promising that tomorrow will be easy. Romans 8 has already made it clear that suffering, weakness, persecution, and hardship are realities of the Christian life. His promise is even greater: whatever tomorrow holds, it will never be strong enough to remove you from the hands of God. The God who has been faithful yesterday is already reigning over tomorrow.

In this episode, we unpack three truths that silence anxiety and strengthen faith:

• God Is Lord Over Today — Your present pain, unanswered prayers, and current struggles cannot push you outside the love of God. 
• God Is Already Lord Over Tomorrow — Every unknown, every transition, every opportunity, and every hardship is already under His sovereign care. 
• Hope Outruns Fear — Fear imagines tomorrow without God. Faith refuses to. Because Jesus lives, we can face the future knowing He'll already be there. 

The Gospel reminds us that if God did not abandon us at the cross, He certainly won't abandon us tomorrow. The empty tomb is God's declaration that our future is secure—not because we know what's coming, but because we know the One who does.

Ask Yourself

•  What future am I carrying today that God never asked me to carry? 
•  Am I borrowing tomorrow's burdens instead of receiving today's grace? 
•  What would change if I truly believed God is already waiting for me in tomorrow? 

You may not know tomorrow.

But the God who loves you already does.

We're in Romans chapter 8, verse 38. We're gonna continue in that verse. He says, This Paul says, I for I am persuaded that neither death nor life, and then he says, Nor angels nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers.

Why We Worry About the Future

So listen, have you ever been physically present in one place but mentally living somewhere else? Like your body is sitting at the dinner table, but your mind is already in tomorrow's meeting. You're lying in bed tonight, but your thoughts are wrestling with next week. You're trying to enjoy today, but anxiety keeps dragging you into a future that hasn't even happened yet. You know who I'm describing? Myself. Your body, listen, like what like what if what if the diagnosis is bad? What if the relationship doesn't work out? What if I lose my job? What if my children make the wrong decisions? What if the prayer isn't answered the way I want it to be? What if everything falls apart? Anxiety loves two words. What if? It takes tomorrow's possibilities and turns them, turns them into today's panic. I'm gonna say that again. It takes tomorrow's possibilities and turns them into today's panic. But Paul says

Things Present & Things to Come

neither things present nor things to come can separate us from the love of God. Whatever you are facing today and whatever may be waiting tomorrow, I want you to know God's love is greater. Anxiety tries to make you carry tomorrow without giving you tomorrow's grace. I'm gonna say that again. Anxiety tries to make you carry tomorrow without giving you tomorrow's grace. See, Paul is systematically eliminating every possible threat to the believer's security, neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor to come. He moves from the physical realm to the spiritual realm and now to the realm of time. See, Paul is not promising that difficult things won't happen. You know, Romans 8 um it has already spoken of suffering and weakness and persecution and danger and death. His promise is even better. Hard things may happen, but none of them can remove, none of them can remove you from the hands of the Lord. The text says, nor things present nor things to come. Things present refers to today's sufferings, temptations, uncertainty, unanswered question. Things to come refers to what whatever future may contain, whatever the future may contain. Paul doesn't tell us exactly what tomorrow holds. He tells us whatever comes will never be strong enough to separate us from God's love. Faith does not say nothing bad will happen. Faith says whatever happens, God remains faithful. And the future may be unknown to you, but it has never been unknown to God. Your future is already held by the God who holds you. Point 1: God Is Lord Over Today

points. Number one, God is Lord over today. Today. Present trouble cannot separate you. Sometimes your greatest battle isn't what might happen tomorrow, it's what's happening today. Today's pressure, temptation, grief, today's unanswered prayer, pain convinces us it will last forever. Anxiety whispers, this is your life now. But your present suffering is not your permanent identity. You you may be hurting, but you are still loved. You may be confused, but you are still held. You may be exhausted, but you are still sustained. You may be you may not understand what God is doing right now, but you can trust that God will never stop working. You see, God never promised a pain-free present.

God's Presence in Present Pain

He promised his presence. The absence of trouble is not the evidence of God's love. It's the presence uh the presence of Christ is. That's the evidence of God's love. And Romans 8 reminds us the Spirit is praying for us, the Son is interceding for us, the Father is working all things for our good. So listen, what is pressing on you today cannot push you outside the love of God. It can't. So quit measuring God's love by today's circumstances. Measure today's circumstances, but again, by God's unchanging love.

Point 2: God Is Already Lord Over Tomorrow

And here's number two God is already Lord over tomorrow. Hey, the future cannot surprise him. The text literally says, nor things to come. Every interview, every diagnosis, every transition, every opportunity, every loss, every unknown. We we waste so much time and energy trying to solve problems God hasn't asked us to solve yet, or if ever. So listen, we we rehearse conversations that haven't happened, and we fight battles that haven't arrived, and we carry burdens that don't belong to today. While you're worrying about tomorrow, listen, God is already there. Nothing has ever surprised him. So listen, God doesn't discover the future. He rules it. Tomorrow isn't a mystery to him, it's already under his authority. That doesn't mean tomorrow won't hurt. It means tomorrow will never be outside of his sovereign care. God is already standing in tomorrow that you're worried about today. God is already standing

Stop Borrowing Tomorrow's Burdens

in the tomorrow you're worried about today. So stop borrowing tomorrow's burdens. Receive today's grace. Tomorrow's grace will arrive exactly when tomorrow does. And here's number

Point 3: Hope Outruns Fear

three hope outruns fear. Faith looks farther than anxiety. Fear imagines tomorrow without God. Faith refuses to. Fear says, what if everything falls apart? Faith answers, even if it does, God will not let me go. Grace always arrives with the trial. God gives daily bread, daily mercy, daily grace. Hope is not pretending tomorrow. Uh pretending tomorrow will be easy. Hope is knowing Jesus will be there when tomorrow arrives. The believer does not face tomorrow alone. The Spirit lives within us. Christ intercedes for us. The Father works for our good. Nothing ahead of us can separate us from his love. See, fear imagines tomorrow without God. Faith refuses to. Once again, faith refuses to imagine tomorrow without God. And if God did not abandon you at the cross, he will not abandon

Gospel Shift — The Cross Secures Your Future

you tomorrow. The empty tomb declares your future is secure because Jesus is alive. You may not know tomorrow, but the God who loves you already does. The future, listen, what future are you carrying today that God never asked you to carry? Lay it down. Lay it down. Trust the one who is already waiting for you in tomorrow.

Walk Into Tomorrow With Confidence

Listen, rebels, don't walk into tomorrow with certainty about circumstances. Listen, we don't do that. We walk into tomorrow with confidence in Christ. The God who held you yesterday, holds you today, and is already reigning over tomorrow. Nothing can separate you from his love. Amen. Thank you for listening
