He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Hello, my name is Martin Marquez, and this is Dive into Scripture, a weekly devotional teaching life lessons through the eyes of a disabled veteran with the Word of God. This week's devotional will be the resurrection story. Let us pray before we start. Lord Jesus, I pray that you are honored with this devotional. It's not a life lesson, but the story of hope and joy. This week for Resurrection Sunday, or Easter Sunday, as some may call it, I will share how you were betrayed, crucified, and rose again on the third day. I pray that the listeners will glean how you are the light of the world and will take up hope and belief in you. I pray the listeners will have patience with me as this will contain a ton of scripture reading. I pray we open our hearts and minds to you and your word. In your name, Jesus I pray, amen. Matthew twenty six forty seven through fifty six. And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomever I shall kiss is the same as he. Hold him fast. And forthwith he came to Jesus and said, Hail Master, and kissed him. And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they and laid hands on Jesus and took him. And behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priests, and smote off his ear. Then Jesus said unto him, put up again thy sword into its place, for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled? That thus it must be. In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, how ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves, for to take me? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. Ball this was done that the scripture of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him and fled. Jesus was betrayed by one of his own disciples. Jesus knew already this would happen. In Matthew twenty six twenty one it says And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you that one of you shall betray me. He had the ability to stop it if he wanted to. Well, it was not meant to be. He was meant to die. Did he want to? No, but he was willing to because he loved us. Matthew twenty six thirty nine says and he went a little further and fell on his face and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass for me, nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. So why did Jesus not run or why did he not stop this? After all, during his ministry he performed many miracles and can have the angels stop this if he truly wanted. But like he said, this must happen to fulfill the scriptures. Psalm ninety two, eleven and twelve says, For he shall give his angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways, they shall bear up thee with their hands lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. He mentioned he could have had angels come stop this madness, but again it had to happen. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers, and they stripped him and put on him a scarlet robe, and when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head and a reed in his right hand, and they bowed to the knee before him and mocked him, saying Hill, King of Jews, and they spit upon him and took the reed and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. And as they came out they found a man of serene, Simon by name, him they compelled to bear his cross, and when they were come unto a place called Gulgutha, that is to say a place of a skull, they gave him vinegar to drink, mingled with gall, and when he tasted thereof he would not drink, and they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet. They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down they watched him there, and set up over his head his accusation written this is Jesus the King of Jews? Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand and another on the left. And they that passed by revelled him, wagging their heads and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days, save thyself, if thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests mocking him with the scribes and the elders, said, He saved others, himself he cannot save. If he be the king of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God, let him deliver him now, if he will have him, for he said I am the Son of God. The thieves also which were crucified with him cast the same in his teeth. Now from the sixth hour there were darkness all over all the land until the ninth hour, and about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice saying, Eli, Eli, Lama, Sabathani, that is to say, My God, my God, where hast thou forsaken me? Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias, and straightway one of them ran and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed and gave him to drink. The rest said, Let me, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. Jesus, when he had cried with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. Matthew twenty seven fifty. Jesus didn't need to die. He did absolutely nothing wrong. He was a sinless lamb. Jesus being one hundred percent God and one hundred percent man, he was tempted as we were, but yet without sin. He had to die to take the punishment for the sins of the world. Romans three hundred twenty three says for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans six twenty three says for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. We needed a sacrifice, we needed someone to pay for our sins, because we could not do it, and Jesus was that sacrifice. He was the only one that could take on the sins of the world and become the appropriation of sins. The second he took on the sins of the world, God the Father separated himself from Jesus, as we saw in Matthew twenty seven forty six. When he died, he paid for our sins, but there is good news. Matthew twenty eight says In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre, and behold, there was a great earthquake, for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow, and for the fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye, for I know that ye seek Jesus which was crucified. He is not here, for he is risen, and he said, Come see the place where the Lord lay, and go quickly and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead, and behold he goeth before you into Galilee. There shall ye see him. Lo, I have told you, and they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy, and did run to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold Jesus met them, saying all hail, and they came and held him by the feet and worshipped him. Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid, go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there they shall see me. When Scripture refers to Jesus saying, Thou that destroys the temple and buildest it in three days, he did not mean the brick and mortar building. Jesus rose again, Jesus conquered death, beating the devil. One thing people tend to miss though is that Matthew twenty seven fifty one says, and behold, the veil of the temple was rant in twain from the top to the bottom, and the earth did quake and the rocks rent. When Jesus died, he tore the veil that was the separation of God and man. This was not just the physical veil or the curtain in the temple. You see, what know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own Corinthians six nineteen. When we trust Jesus Christ, we have the Holy Spirit living in us. We are the temple. Without the torn veil, we have no access to God. Before this, the only way to the Father was through the priest who was the only one allowed behind the veil and able to speak with God. Now we have direct access to the Father through Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit as our mediator. See, Jesus had to allow his betrayal, he had to allow his crucifixion, he had to allow his death, so he could raise again from the dead on the third day. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, we were separated from God, but with the veil torn, with faith in Jesus we now have access to God once again. Corinthians fifteen three through eight says, For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, that how Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he rose again on the third day according to the scriptures, and that he was seen of Siphius, then of the twelve, after that he was seen of about five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep, after that he was seen of James, then of all the apostles, and last of all he was seen of me also, as one of the born out of due time. The Old Testament refers to Jesus and his ministry and death and resurrection. There are too many references, so I'll leave that up to you to research. Just know that there is a blessed hope. Know that you are a sinner and need a savior. We cannot do it on our own. Ephesians two, eight and nine says, For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. All we have to do is believe and ask. Romans ten nine and ten says that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans ten thirteen says, For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. It's not that hard. It's very simple, yet complicated. Complicated because it takes true faith. It takes a risk. Most people are not willing to believe, but I challenge you today to just believe. If this is all a farce and you believe, you lose nothing. But if it's real, and I honestly believe that it's all real, and you don't believe, then you are doomed to hell upon death. I personally believe and I don't want to go to hell, so I trust Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I pray that you all think on this, and if you are not saved, you take care of that today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, and this very second can be your last. It could be my last. Trust and take care of your eternal salvation with hope in Christ. Remember, I am Martin Marquez, and this is Dive into Scripture. The Romans Road can guide you in helping someone choose salvation. Romans three twenty three for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans six twenty three for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. But God commendeth his love toward us, that in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans ten nine and ten That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans ten thirteen for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Amen.
