Trusting Trump’s Iran Peace Deal: Why Conservatives Should Cool Their Heels - June 15, 2026
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
President Trump’s surprise Iran peace MOU has the right fired up, with even loyal conservatives demanding to see the fine print. In this Daily Update, I walk through what we actually know so far, why the deal halted hostilities and reopened the Strait of Hormuz, and how it is already hitting gas prices here in Wilmington and across North Carolina. I also dig into Mark Levin’s criticism, the pressure on Republicans who backed the war, and why a constitutional republic sometimes requires leaders to move before the public sees every detail. In the end, this comes down to a simple question for the right: do you trust Trump to close this deal and bring Iran to heel, or not?
What you’ll learn / Key moments
- 00:00 – Opening hook and overview of Trump’s Iran MOU and the reported end of hostilities.
- 00:10 – How the deal stops attacks, reopens the Strait of Hormuz, and signals a push to bring Iran into the civilized world.
- 00:29 – Mark Levin’s challenge to the White House and why many conservatives want the text of the MOU released now.
- 01:13 – War length, gas prices, and why conservatives argue the Iran campaign still beat Biden-era pain at the pump.
- 01:40 – Why a republic can’t function by instant plebiscite, and the core question: do Republicans trust Trump to seal a strong deal with Iran.
What you can do
If you care about America’s security, energy prices, and the future of conservative foreign policy, this is the moment to lean in. Share this Daily Update with friends who are skeptical of the Iran MOU so they can hear a clear, local, constitutional conservative take on what’s happening. Then, make your voice heard: call your representatives, show up at local GOP meetings, and demand that Republicans support both transparency and the president’s ability to negotiate from strength without consulting citizens on every detail.

You either trust him or you don't. This is the Wilmington Standard Daily Update for Monday, June 15th, 2026. Multiple news outlets are reporting the Iranians have agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding, or MOU, which stops all hostilities across all fronts, opens the Strait of Hormuz for passage without the imposition of tolls, and moves the talks into making sure Iran finds ways to be a partner in the civilized world. Two things happened at once after the announcement by President Trump. The far right started questioning the president's ability to make good deals, and oil prices tumbled. Mark Levin, a staunch supporter of the president, put it this way, I have asked for days why can't we, the people, see the MOU? Not through people briefed by an anonymous person? Honestly, I've never seen anything like this. If it is a great outcome for peace, then release it. On one hand, Mr. Levin's frustrations are valid. Supporters of the president, including those who are up for election in critical states, have gone out on multiple limbs defending his decision to take down one of the most evil regimes in the world today. What was supposed to be a quick war, done and gone, in just a couple of weeks, it still was amazingly swift, actually comes to an end after 15 weeks. In that time period, prices across the board have gone up, but conservatives have been quick to point out that the price of gas at the peak of the war was far below the price of gas under President Biden. Conservatives have also pointed out, quite correctly, that Iran poses a huge national security threat in its pursuit of nuclear weapons, and needed to be stopped. But that is where the populist movement of the GOP, and many on the right, need to cool their heels. We live in a republic where our leaders are not, and should not be, immediately accountable to the voters who put them in office. Our leaders, including President Trump, must govern, must make peace treaties, must make foreign policies, and sometimes must do so without giving immediate details to the public. Otherwise, it would be impossible to govern, if the president and others were forced to wait for public opinion to come to some sort of consensus, before doing anything at all. The formal memorandum will be signed on Friday. Until that time, Republicans need to ask, do you trust President Trump to get it right, to make sure a good deal is signed, and that Iran will be brought to heel? In terms of gas prices, the average price in Wilmington, North Carolina, as of this morning, hovers around three dollars fifty cents. Across the state, prices are around three dollars sixty seven cents. For the Wilmington Standard, I'm Reuel Sample. Thanks for listening.
