In this fable The Sun and the North Wind compete to see who can have a traveller from his coat. The harder the North Wind blows, the more the traveller clings to his coat. The sun takes a slower, gentler approach but soon the force of his heat makes the traveller take off his coat and seek shade.
Welcome back to Echoing Fables with Gramps, where timeless stories travel across cultures and generations, carrying wisdom for every heart that listens. I'm Gramps, and each time we gather, we share a tale full of lessons that stay with us long after the story is told. Today's story reminds us that kindness and gentleness can be more powerful than force. So settle in, open up your ears, and enjoy today's fable called The Wind and the Sun. One day the wind and the sun were arguing about which of them was stronger. I'm the strongest, boasted the wind. When I blow, trees bend and clouds race across the sky. The sun replied calmly, strength is not always about force. Sometimes gentleness is more powerful. Just then they noticed a traveler walking along the road wearing a warm coat. The wind had no idea. Let's have a contest, he said. Whoever can make the traveler remove his coat will prove who is stronger. The son agreed and said the wind could go first. The wind began to blow. At first the breeze was light, but soon it got stronger and it grew stronger. The wind howled across the road and pushed against the traveler with great force. But the harder the wind blew, the tighter the traveler held his coat around him. Finally the wind grew tired and stopped. Then it was the sun's turn. The sun began to shine softly. Its warm rage gently touched the traveler. Slowly the day grew warmer. The traveler smiled at the pleasant warmth. Before long he loosened his coat. Soon he began to just feel warmer, and he decided to just take his coat off. He took it off completely and carried it over his arm. The sun had won the contest, and the wind learned that gentle warmth can sometimes accomplish more than great force. So echoing Fables family, today's lesson is this. Kindness and gentleness often achieve more than anger or force. When we approach others with patience, warmth, and understanding, we are more likely to win hearts and solve problems peacefully. True strength is not always loud or powerful. It's often quiet and kind. And so my friends, the story may end, but its wisdom lives on. Thank you for joining me on Echoing Fables with Gramps, where every story shared carries a lesson worth remembering. Until next time, keep listening, keep learning, and let these stories echo in your heart.
