Long ago the sky was so close to the earth that people could reach it and touch it. So settle in, open your listening ears, and let's enjoy today's fable called Why the Sky is Far Away. Long ago the sky lived very close to Earth. It was so low that people could touch it with their hands. In those days when people were hungry, they would take pieces of the sky and cook them for food. The sky was kind and allowed this, but it asked the people to take only what they needed. Now at first the people were thankful. They took small pieces and shared with their families. But after a while, some people became greedy. They took large pieces of the sky. They grabbed more than they needed and wasted food. They argued and complained instead of giving thanks. The sky grew sad and tired of being treated with disrespect. One day the sky said, I will no longer stay so close to people who do not appreciate what they are given. Slowly the sky began to rise higher and higher. The people reached up and they could no longer touch it. They cried out Sky, please come back. But the sky was already far above them, watching quietly from a distance. From that day on, the sky stayed high in the heavens, reminding people to be grateful for what they have and to treat all gifts with respect. And that's why to this day the sky is far away from the earth. So I want you to think about that. Think about today's lesson, which is be thankful for what you're given. When we take more than we need and forget to show gratitude, we can lose precious gifts. Respect the blessings in your life, those big and small, and they will stay close to your heart.
