Hello everyone, and welcome to Echoing Fables with Gramps, where stories from around the world bring wisdom into our lives today. From Africa to Asia, all over the globe, stories from long ago to right now. These are stories whose lessons still echo in every heart. Now let's begin. Long ago in China, there was an old emperor who loved plants and flowers. As he grew older, he knew it was time to choose someone to take his place. But instead of choosing from his family, he decided to test the children of the kingdom. He gave each child a single seed and said plant this seed, care for it, and return in one year with what you have grown. The one who grows the best plant will become the next emperor. Among the children was a boy named Ping. Ping loved plants and worked very hard. He planted the seed in rich soil, watered it every day, and made sure it had plenty of sunlight. But days passed, then weeks, then months. Nothing grew. Pink tried everything. He changed the soil, adjusted the water, and moved the pot to different places, but still nothing came from the seed. As the year came to an end, the other children returned to the palace with beautiful flowers, tall plants, and colorful arrangements. Ping was ashamed. His pot was empty. But he was honest. So he carried his empty pot to the emperor. When the emperor saw all the children, he walked slowly past the beautiful plants. Then he stopped when he saw Ping. Why is your pot empty? The Emperor asked. Ping bowed his head and said I tried my best, but the seed would not grow. The Emperor smiled. My child, he said, I gave each of you a boiled seed. It was impossible for anything to grow. The crowd gasped. You are the only one who was honest. And for that reason, you will be the next emperor. This story reminds us that honesty and integrity matter more than success gained the wrong way. Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching, will always lead you exactly where you are meant to be.
