Brewers win over the Giants 16-2 and improve their lead in the NL Central to 5.5 games over the Cardinals, Cubs and Pirates, 7-games ahead of the Red.

Hey, it's Brew Daily, our second episode. The Brewers win handily in this one on a Monday night at American Family Field in Milwaukee. 16-2 was the final. You need a laugher every now and then, and in this one, that's what the Brewers got. They improved to 36 and 21 now. The Cardinals lost. The Cubs were off. So the Brewers now lead Chicago, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis by 5.5 in the NL Central and the Reds by 7. So this one got off to a pretty rousing start because San Francisco scored the first two on a home run just over the outstretched glove of Jackson Churio, who was playing in center field today. Ball went over the right center field wall, a little confusion on the base pads. Didn't know if Churio made a fantastic catcher. The ball was out. It was indeed out. But then the Brewers had a really good answer. Behind Shane Drowen, who gave up that home run, Drowan would give up nothing else. But the Brewers had an answer in the bottom of the second inning, trailing 2-0. It's not often that one of the plays of the game is going to be a challenge in the second inning by the leadoff hitter on a 3-2 pitch. But that's what the Brewers did. Jake Bowers challenged the 3-2 pitch, which was a called strike, and he won the challenge. And the Brewers then exploded in the inning for seven runs off of the leadoff called challenge by Jake Bowers. So they overturned that for a walk. Freelook had an RBI double, Renhifo RBI single, bunt single by Hamilton, two-run double by Churio, and a two-run triple by Bryce Tarang, sack fly from Contreras. Five Brewers had an RBI in the inning, seven runs scored, second most in an inning this season for the Brewers. So Shane Drone then just kind of took over. Just his second major league start. He goes four innings, four hits, two runs, a couple of walks, five strikeouts, 74 pitches. And I talked to Pat Murphy in the post-game press conference and asked him about the relievers in this game. Because after that, they go Chad Patt, Patrick, D. L. Hall, Grant Anderson, and Jake Woodford. They cover the final five innings and only allow one hit in a game that's out of hand, and they stayed focused. And Murph said afterwards, well, they know that if they don't stay focused, that their nameplate can be taken off their locker. So they which is another reason why we kind of love Murph. Seven of the nine starters in the game had RBIs in this one. Uh Bowers is one of them who didn't. He had four walks and two strikeouts. Hamilton didn't have an RBI, but he had three hits, 16 hits in the game, or 16 runs rather, 18 hits and 11 walks. So let's run through what I consider in this regard the player of the game. By the way, James says Brewer's blowout, uh, bring him into the screen. There we go, James, uh, weighs in a Brewer's blowout in this one. So when we give some consideration to the player of the game, I'm gonna go Bryce Tarang. He snapped an 0 for 21 slump uh in his first at bat in this game with an RBI double down the left field line, and then in his second at bat, hit a two-run triple off the wall, off the jutted out wall in left center. Ball banged away and had a chance maybe for a moment to be an inside the park home run opportunity, ends up being a two-run triple. So my player of the game is Bryce Tarang in this one. So this one will be a little goofy for some of you. Uh, but my play of the game, when you win 16-2, it's hard to come up with an individual play of the game. I'm gonna go to the leadoff challenge by Jake Bowers in the bottom of the second inning, down to nothing, on a 3-2 pitch leading off the inning. It was a called strike three, and Jake Bowers challenged. He wins the challenge, and the Brewers jump out in a game that you score 16 runs and have 18 hits. Hard to come up with a specific play in the game. And by the way, the Brewers with the 16 runs do it without the benefit of the long ball in this one. So no home runs. I'll go Jake Bowers with the play of the game in challenging that second inning strike three call on a 3-2 pitch with nobody on, nobody out to lead off the inning. That's my play of the game. Things that need improvement. There wouldn't be any in this. The Brewers didn't commit any errors. The bullpen did fantastic work on in relief with Shane Drowen. So I don't know what I would say would need improvement on a night like tonight. I would say this baseball's the only sport that I can think of in which a team totally gives up and you keep playing. I mean, they don't put a tight end in at quarterback in a 57 to nothing football game. But here a position player comes in. Kennedy came in for the Giants to pitch in the uh in the eighth inning with the Brewers at the at the plate. He walked four, gave up four hits, four runs. I don't know. You're getting kind of nitpicky on that front if uh if that's what things need improvement. And I that's the only thing I could think of. So I'm gonna recap here a little bit. The Brews, with this win here tonight, improved their overall record to 36 and 21. And because the Cardinals lost 2-1 at home to the Texas Rangers, the Cubs are off, the Brewers now lead Chicago, St. Louis, and Pittsburgh all by five and a half games, and the Reds by seven. The Brewers are gonna wake up on June the 2nd with that significant lead. And I made a note, I wanted to make sure that I referred to it, that when the Brewers woke up on the morning of April 28th, they were in last place, they were 14 and 13 and in last place. Since then, they have gone 22 and 8 and lead the division by five and a half games. How about that for being impressive off of uh a not very impressive start? Hey, it's a couple of uh uh of brewed daily by Heller, I had to think of what the name was. Brewed daily by Heller, and we're 2-0 on this. Uh, the Brewers will go in uh game two of this set, and it is Kyle Harrison for the Brewers tomorrow against Trevor McDonald. There is no um decision on who's gonna get the start on Wednesday night or Thursday afternoon. They will face Logan Webb and Adrian Hauser. Big Brewers win. We'll talk about it on I Love Mondays. That goes on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. It's a super fan Tuesday, and Treadmill is back with me. Hope you enjoy the rest of your Monday night. Hey, the Brewers win again. Let's stay hot as we begin the month of June. We'll talk to you tomorrow morning. Thanks for tuning in to Brew Daily with Heller.
