Brewers lose 1-0 to San Francisco.  Well pitched and defended, just no offense and late failures to execute with opportunities.  Milwaukee falls to 37-22

SPEAKER_00

I love Mondays with my health. Okay, um, a brewed daily, but for the first time with the loss. Listen, I'm all dressed up and no place to go. I came from the Madison Sports Hall of Fame banquet where I was a presenter tonight. And uh so uh a little late to the party on the Brewers, but a little recap uh nonetheless. Look, I got all boutineered up for this deal, and it didn't quite still work out. The Brewers lose one to nothing after scoring 24 runs in the previous 16 innings of hitting. They didn't get any runs on Wednesday night. Logan Webb was really good. Uh the Brewers dropped to 37-22 in a one-nothing loss. There were a lot of good things in this one, but let's kind of break it down. What happened tonight as we do our brood daily uh episode number four? They dropped to 37-22. Brewers lose one-nothing. Logan Webb was really good. If I gave player of the game to the opposing team, he was the man. Uh, and I said he hadn't been a very good pitcher coming in. His ERA was just under five, his record was two and four, but tonight he was pretty good. Uh better than pretty good. He was really good. He's their ace. Tells you a little bit about who they are because he hadn't had a very good year, but he was really good tonight. Seven innings pitched, just the one hit allowed. Bryce Tarang broke up the no-hitter in the seventh with a single to left. Logan Webb struck out for had one walk, threw 95 pitches in the win. So uh so that's the yeah, sometimes you get beat, but the Brewers will we'll get to how they failed in this one in a minute. Let's talk about Robert Gasser. Really good. Wasn't scheduled to start, but he did um in this game. Five innings pitched, five hits, one run, five strikeouts, and a walk. It's just his third game started this year, and he was really good in the game. So I want to make sure that we credit what he did because I thought he was he was outstanding and certainly gave the Brewers, and that's what they have done in spot starts this year. They gave themselves a chance to win in this one, and it just didn't get done, and that kind of happens uh from time to time. So, and it happened against the Brewers tonight in this one without a question. So we'll we'll get to uh the rest of the goings on. Milwaukee just had three hits in the game, one from Tarang, as I mentioned, to break up the no-hitter in the seventh. Churio in the eighth, Yelicha double to lead the ninth. We'll get to that because that'll be one of the features of the game and one of the takeaways of this game without a question. So how you failed in this one, and uh let's let's get to the other things. Play of the game. It is uh Keaton Wynne striking out Bryce Tarang with a runner at third and one out in the ninth. That's the play of the game. The game hangs into balance right there. Brewers score, I think they're gonna win. Uh they and they certainly were in a position to steal this one. You know, they've given up eight hits, just the one run, and they go to the bottom of the ninth, down one-nothing, and you get a leadoff double. So uh that to me was the play of the game. It went against the Brewers, but Tarang, I would have bet against this, striking out with a runner at third and less than two outs was to me the play of the game. Player of the game, Chad Patrick. So I thought he was brilliant again. And Chad Patrick, since going to the bullpen, has been that guy. Uh, I like him as a bulldog starting pitcher anyway. And he certainly was that tonight, not as a starter, but coming out of the pen in this one and doing what he did tonight. I thought he was brilliant. He's my Brewer's player of the game. You can't give it to anybody offensively. The defense was really good. How about the strike him out, throw him out with uh Contreras getting a runner at second on a strikeout throw out earlier in the game? But I'll give player of the game to Chad Patrick. Here's what you need to do better a feature that we talk about on this every night when we're doing brewed daily. So execution. The Brewers have a runner on in the eighth inning, and you pinch it. Now you can question this pinch hitting for Sal Freelick, who you would think would be an adept bunter. You pinch hit with Blake Perkins trying to bunt. And Blake, who has really struggled in all ways this year, is hitting 091. Uh, got picked off second base the other night. We talked about as something that can't happen. He pops up a bunt to first base. Then you get, you still have an opportunity in the inning. Runners are first and second and one out. And Gary Sanchez comes on and he hits into a 5'3, 5 unassisted to three double play to end the eighth. Okay, so again, what you need to do better. How about this? Kristen Jelich doubles to right to lead off the bottom of the ninth, and I think you're gonna tie it and win the game. So Andrew Vaughn gives himself up by hitting a little ground at a first. That play is applauded by guys like Ted Simmons and the old school Brewers. And I don't mind that you moved him to third, but it's set up for the biggest failure of the night, and that is with a runner at third in less than two outs, and Bryce Tarang, your hitter against a right-handed pitcher, Keaton Wynn, who doesn't have a save in his career. And Bryce Tarang strikes out. When you talk about failing to execute, the Brewers could have stolen this as a win and their failure to execute on getting a bunt down in the eighth, hitting into a double play to end the eighth, and then having a runner at third and less than two outs, runner at third, one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Bryce Durang strikes out. He puts it in play with Yellich at third base. Unless he hits a comeback or to first or third, uh, you're gonna tie the game. And you couldn't do it because you didn't put the ball in play and you strike out. And that's the ball game. The Brewers fall to 37 and 22. Now, uh, I'm gonna double check here because at the time that I'm doing this, the Pirates are winning, uh, but the game is not done. Let's see if it uh finished yet on uh Wednesday. Pirates are leading in their game. So here's what I'm gonna do on the standings. The Cubs lost in extras. I love that. They lost in 10 innings. They are still six and a half back. The Cardinals won. They are five and a half back. They beat Texas. And the Reds lost, so they stay seven back. The Brewers at 37-22. They're gonna wake up with a lead of uh let's call it four and a half. If the Pirates hold on and win, they'll be four and a half back. And the Brewers will uh will do that to enter the series finale against San Francisco. They'll do it at 110 on Thursday. Adrian Hauser against Coleman Crow for the Brewers series finale. Then they go to Colorado and Miz goes Friday night uh in mile high conditions in Denver for that one. So the storyline is pretty simple. Sometimes you get beat. Tonight the Brewers had a chance to steal a win from a loss. They didn't do it. They lose 1-0. Brewed Daily goes tomorrow, right after the Brewers finish in a matinee against San Francisco. Don't forget about I Love Mondays. It goes live tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. Vinny Rettino will join me and we'll talk a little Am Fam championship just across the street at TPC. Brood Daily. I love doing it. Brewers lose for the first time since we started this one to nothing. They'll try and write the ship, win the series on Thursday against San Francisco.
