This team, I'm telling you what, there is there are smiles every day. The Brewers win again. Welcome into Brew Daily. I'm your host, Mike Heller. Brewers win 4-3. So they win back to back 4-3 games in St. Louis. Today's game one of a doubleheader. They'll play game two tonight. We got a lot of. Let's see how quickly we can get through this. So game one of the doubleheader. Brewers improved to 57 and 33, 24 games over 500. They're high water mark of the year. This is they've not been any better. Roster moves made before the game. David Hamilton placed on the 10-day IL. Luis Lara called up. He'll make his major league debut, we think, in the nightcap. Did not play in the opener. Robert Gasser was added to the roster as the 27th player, which you're allowed on a doubleheader. He'll pitch in the night game. Blake Perkins was optioned down to Nashville Triple A. Rick Sweet will try and keep him happy and get him productive. Greg Jones was called from AAA. He wasn't the most popular fan brewer earlier this year. Matt Svanson, he was the opener for St. Louis. His first start of the year. He had a 6'6 nine ERA, but he worked a clean first. And then he was replaced in the second inning by Bruce Zimmerman, who made his first Major League appearance of the year. He last pitched for the Brewers last year, today, pitching against them. And he was pretty good. Let's go through it. Miz opened the game. He was 9-4 with a 1.47 ERA. First in Major League Baseball in average allowed, 150. Whip 0.78. Strikeouts, 156. Strikeout percentage 39.3. And first in hits per nine innings at 4.67. Also, obviously first in most uh fastballs above 100 miles per hour. So Yelich leads off the day, and he was one for his last 23. He doubled. It was one of his three hits on the day, but he was stranded, a recurring theme. Bottom of the first, Jordan Walker, a two out, two run home run. First pitch he saw, and it was a cutter. Ms. didn't throw many cutters, if any, the rest of the way. Top of the second, Bruce Zimmerman took the Brewers one, two, three. Top of the third, a weak leadoff walk to Pratt. Ortiz double to left center. RBI single by Yelich. Second hit of the day for Christian, and the Brewers were on the board. Bottom of the third, Yvonne Herrera, solo home run against Miz. Second straight game that Miz allowed two home runs. And this one was on a fastball at 102. And it's three to two St. Louis in the game. Now, onto the play of the game for me. Top of the sixth, Jake Bowers hits a two-out double, and he scores on a flare to center by Garrett Mitchell. The play of the game is the slide by Bowers into home plate. It's a perfect throw by Nathan Church. And I mean perfect, but Bowers head first, left hand, caught the plate. It is a great turn at third base. Bowers is a good base runner. He's not exceptionally fast, but he's a good base runner, and it was a tremendous slide. Honestly, if I'm giving an MVP on the Brewers from a position player, because Miz is that guy, if I'm giving an MVP not to Miz, it's Jake Bowers. Dude's been ridiculous in a great way. And he's going to be my other story of the day here. We'll get to that in a moment. Top of the seventh, first and second, nobody out. Pratt walks, Ortiz bunts, and there's a huge collision at first base. Everybody gets up and I guess sort of okay. Yelich hit an RBI double to left after he failed on two bunt attempts, and the Brewers led 4-3, but still second and third, nobody out. Churio had a bad day. He was 0 for five. Tarang strikes out. Contreras intentionally walked. This again is one of those moments. I get the numbers. Your base is loaded, two outs, and Jake Bowers is your hitter, lefty on lefty. He's already got two doubles today, left on left, and you pinch hit with Andrew Vaughn. I I in real time I said no, I wouldn't do it. And I know Levering and Tim Dillard both backed it up because Vaughn's hitting 405 against lefties. He eats them up. I let Jake Bowers eat there. He's my best hitter. And rather than cold off the bench, and I know Vaughn's been good as a pinch hitter, and I know he's fantastic against left-handers. Bowers already got two doubles against lefties today. He's hitting the smoking the ball everywhere. I don't pinch hit for Jake Bowers. Period. I don't pinch hit for Jake Bowers. And it didn't work. He grounded out to short. Uh Vaughn did to end the inning. Bottom of the seventh, Miz stayed in. Brewer's up 4-3, but they failed to add on. Second and third, nobody out, and they failed to add on. Miz stays in at 88 pitches. He had allowed three hits, struck out nine to that point, stays in. Strikeout, strikeout, and a ground to third, finishing with this final line. Seven innings, three hits, three runs, 11 strikeouts, no walks. Crazy time. 103 pitches, final 14 batters. He faced, he retired. Ashby came in, back to back two out singles, but got out on four unassisted to Tarang. And in the ninth inning, you rebay on to close. He got Walker on a pop to third. Nookbar walked. Ryan Torres struck out Nate Church. Three unassisted game over. Player of the game for me, Christian Yelich. He entered one for his last 23, went three for five with two RBIs in the game. Needs improvement. This is the rinse and repeat every day. And we're picking, but you can't accept in victory what you wouldn't accept in defeat. Four for 16 with runners in scoring position, and I believe nine runners left on base. So uh that's a big win. Robert Gasser will go tonight. The Brewers, by the way, I'm going to recap. In that 27-game stretch that was going to take them to the All-Star game in 27 days, they're now 14-7. In the 15 games that I would have been happy at 8-7, I'm raising my hand in error. They're already 3-1, 5-2, 7-2. Pretty good. Final line for the Brewers. Four runs, 10 hits, no errors. Four of 16 runners in scoring position, nine runners left on base. St. Louis, they didn't have much. Three runs, two-run homer and a solo home run, five hits, no errors, one of four with runners in scoring position and three left on base. Game two, Robert Gasser tonight for the Brewers. Likely the debut of Luis Lara in this one is the Brewers. Now season high, 24 games over 500. We'll do this again late tonight edition.
