Brewers win 10-2 and sweep the DoubleHeader over the St. Louis Cardinals.  Robert Gasser went 7.2 innings...and Luis Lara collected his 1st MLB hit and rbi's with a r-run single.  Milwaukee scored 7-runs in the 7th to put it away and improve to 24-games over .500 at 57-23.

Hey, welcome into Brew Daily. This is a pretty good day for the Milwaukee Brewers. They sweep a doubleheader in St. Louis. And again, the high water mark of the season has hit 58 and 33. The Brewers 25 games over 500. There were a lot of roster moves today, and the Brewers benefited in a couple of those. Let me get to some details. So if you tuned in late and didn't see what the Brewers did today, David Hamilton put on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring. Luis Lara was promoted from AAA Nashville, and he's one of the top 100 prospects in all of baseball. The Brewers uh very high on their prospect list. He made his major league debut tonight in the second game of the doubleheader. Robert Gasser, not a very well-kept secret. After his start a week ago, he was sent to Arizona, and he was slated to come back and be the 27th man in this doubleheader today, which is allowed by big league rules. Blake Perkins option to AAA. Greg Jones recalled from triple A. So the Brewers win the first game. And when they did that, they improved to 47 and 7 in games that they score four runs or more. So then they win the nightcap by scoring four runs or four runs or more, scored 10. 48 and 7 is the record when they score four runs or more. All right, so let's get to some of the details. Luis Lara batted second and played center field in the nightcap. Garrett Mitchell got the back half of the doubleheader off. And Lara was 0 for 2 on a ground out and a line drive, hard hit to the right fielder. When he batted in the fifth inning, already up 1-0 and the bases loaded. Luis Lara delivered on a two-run single. It made it 3-0. His first night in the major leagues, and he contributed with a two hard hit balls, and the second one being a two-run basis loaded single, three-nothing. Bottom of the sixth, the game flips a little bit. Nelson Velazquez hits a two-run homer offer Robert Gasser. I'm going to get to more about Gasser in a moment. And it makes it 3-2. But this is something the Brewers have been great at all year long. A, they lead Major League Baseball in innings with three or more runs. So the Brewers are number one in all of baseball in kind of tacking on and having uh crooked numbers. So what they did with that is they did it in the seventh after the Cardinals draw within a run. And maybe there's some life for St. Louis, who went with a call-up Dobbins as their starter, and he pitched them well enough to be in the game. But in the seventh, the Brewers score seven times. Joey Ortiz led it off with a solo home run. They got a uh RBI double into the gap by Bryce Tarang. The inning was capped off by a Cooper Pratt two-run double. He had a triple and a double, two runs, two RBIs in the game. And the Brewers took all doubt out of it. They score seven times in the seventh inning. So they're up 10-2, and that's where the game would finish. Player of the game for me is Robert Gasser. So Gasser, just think of this. The Brewers are in a scenario where they're playing in the midst of 18 games in 17 days. Gasser is roster spot number 27 for the game. And he goes seven and two-thirds, gives up four hits, two runs, four strikeouts, a walk on 92 pitches. In game one, you get seven full innings out of Mizorowski. In game two, you get seven and two-thirds out of Gasser. I mean, if you're Pat Murphy, Chris Hook, Jim Henderson, the Brain Trust, when it comes to this team and how they go about pitching, you could not ask for better than what they've gotten from all of their rotation. Shane Drowen last night, Miz today, Gasser tonight. It's just been so impressive what they've done. So my player of the game, Robert Gasser. A little honorable mention to Cooper Pratt. Two for four, a triple, a double, two runs, two RBIs for the Brewer shortstop, who's playing like he belongs after he had really certainly struggled. So I have a needs improvement here. I should have turned my other camera on so I could have gone to camera two. I hate the uh I hate position. I shouldn't hate, I don't hate it. I don't like when position players come into the game. So Torres comes in to pitch for St. Louis in the eighth. It's a 10-2 game in the eighth, and he's throwing fastballs. He he's throwing 38 mile an hour pitches. Jackson Churio might have had the moment of the night. He batted left-handed when he faced Torres in his spot. And he hit a bullet at 98 miles per hour. He hit it just short of the warning track caught in right center. And the Brewers benched when Sophia Minert asked, they said they've never seen him even step into the box in the cage left-handed. Not even just goofing around. And he hit one 98 miles an hour. Okay, but that's not the point. The point is if you're going to put, if you're giving up, if you're waving the white flag, this is what I think needs improvement. In baseball, if you're gonna wave the white flag, just end the game. Mercy rule it. I'm in the minority on this opinion, but uh it's where I sit on it. So that's what I think needs improvement. It was 10-2, and the Cardinals went to a position player. Game four of the series is tomorrow at 6 45. The the Brewers on this, you know, this 27 games in 27 days. So far, they're 15 and 7. 15 and 7. They got five games left in five days before the All-Star break. A little update of the standings at 58-33. And uh the line score tonight, the Brewers 10 runs of 16 with runners in scoring position, eight left on base for St. Louis, two runs on four hits, no errors in the game. Cubs won 5-2 in Baltimore. Pittsburgh wins 12-4 at home against the Braves. The Reds lose 4-1 against the Phillies. The Brewers lead the Cubs by 7. The Brewers lead the Cardinals by 10.5, 11.5 over the over the Pirates, who they'll see this weekend, and 17 over Cincinnati. I've been saying, I said it a week ago, that it this was now a two-team race. The Brew have essentially made it a two-team race. They have knocked the Cardinals out. Now they're not out when you're not to the All-Star break yet, but the Brewers lead the Cardinals by 10 and a half. They're 7-1 against St. Louis this year. That means they've already won the season series because you play them 13 times. So really impressive. A couple of notes coming in. Uh Jay says, Gasser, what a performance. Saved the bullpen. He's starting to look like his pre-injury self. I agree. And he added to it, we hope for five to six wins on the 11-game roadie. They already have five. Let's get greedy. Michael weighs in feeling good with Harrison on the bump tomorrow. Kyle Harrison in game four, the five-game set. This is really good. I'm not uh I'm not partial to hyperbole, but this Brewers team is so impressive in so many ways. And I think Luis Lara is gonna stick. And the big question mark is gonna be how do they put him in their lineup? Where do they have him? Because when they're healthy, their lineup is Churio, Mitchell, and Freelick in the outfield. And Luis Lara is gonna show my view, he's gonna show that he's ready and he belongs at 21. And Churio is 22. Your corner outfielders or center and left field for the next number of years are gonna be essentially the same age, and they're stars, I think. I think Churio's already a star, and I think Lara is gonna be a star. Couple other notes, then we'll check out. Mike Hanson starting pitching, magnificent the last two days. Yeah, all three starts from Drowan last night to Ms. Today and Gaster tonight, and then Rick, there have been rumors about getting Chapman from the Red Sox. What do you hear about this? I I don't I don't see it, and this is why. Chapman is a bona fide closer, and there's a market for the closer. And if he comes to Milwaukee, he's one of four guys, and he might be your closer, but you upset that Apple cart with Ashby and Yuribe and McGill. And I don't know that I'm a fan of that as it rolls forward. We'll see what happens in the coming days. Special edition of I Love Mondays tomorrow morning.
