Brewers win 8-4 in St. Louis to take 4-of-5 over the Cardinals in the series, and improve their lead over the Cubs to 7-games.

Hey, I'm back. Here I am. I didn't do this last night. And let me be honest, uh, the reason I didn't do it last night is I had too much bourbon. So uh I didn't want to do that. I had less today, but what I had was really good. Um, we were at Buffalo Trace this morning in uh Frankfurt, and what a tremendous, amazing operation that is. And then we went to Woodford Reserve this afternoon, which is like the polar opposite from where the setting is. It's in horse country, it's gorgeous. Uh, they were both great. I love their their uh their bourbons. Um, and we we had a great day. And then we went on a little paddle boat uh on the Ohio River. So but I was watching the entirety of the Brewer game, and this has been such an amazing series for the Brewers to take four or five in St. Louis to do so, despite getting the bad news on Brandon Woodruff when they were arriving. Um, Luis Lara, who didn't play tonight, played a key role in the series. This is just a really, really good baseball team right now who had a tremendous night. So uh I loved everything about it. And let me get into some of the details uh as we roll through it. The Brewers win 8-4. They are now 59 and 34. 59 wins before the all-star break is the most in franchise history, and it's not close. Next high ex was 56, and you still have three games left before you get to the break. So the Brew get eight runs, 11 hits, no errors, four of 12 with runners in scoring position, eight runners left on base. Cardinals, just five hits, four runs in the game, no errors. They were two of nine with runners in scoring position and straight at four because the Brewers pitched really well. The lead in the division, the Cubs lost today. Lead in the division is seven over the Cubs, now ten and a half over the Cardinals. And into this series, I mean, if I had the second camera right now, I'd look into it uh on a close shot. Into this series, the Cardinals are thinking if we take this series, if we win four of five, we're in it. I don't think they thought they would lose four or five. And are they out of it? No, but come on, they're out of it. They're 10 and a half games back, and I just don't think there's enough there in St. Louis right now to make this run. Uh, they're a better team than most people thought. They're 48 and 44, but I don't think they're a playoff team. Logan Henderson made the start for the Brewers tonight. It's his first since May 22nd. He's been dealing with a back issue. He was back tonight, had a very good night. Andre Pallante was on the other side. He was 10 and 5 with a 3.6 ERA going in. Bottom of the first, like I pick out little things. Bottom of the first, Logan Henderson gives up a leadoff double. He then gets a ground ball and two strikeouts. Doesn't give up the run. That's that's so impressive what he did even there. Top of the second, I think one of the like if I had the play of the game, it's from Jake Bowers. It could have been this play, but there's a reason it wasn't. Jake Bowers is at second, and there's a ground ball hit back to the mound, and Bowers is going to be dead to rights at third base. The Cardinals don't play it incredibly well, and Bowers has just a great slide into third base that he hesitates, deques, and slides high and wide and gets the bag. And he's safe on a play that he's out easily. But he's safe because he is creative on the bases. His slide that scored the run the other night at home plate was my one of my plays of the game when he gets his left hand in on a tag that was reviewed, and he's safe because it's a great slide. That was a great slide. Uh and what happens afterwards? Well, Freelick and Pratt both had RBI hits, and the Brewers lead two to nothing at that point. Top of the third, back to back to back singles, Brewers baseball there. Mitchell, Turio, Tarang, and it's 3-0. Then the play of the game in that inning, Jake Bowers steps up and hits his 17th home run. Dude's not going to the all-star game. Kind of silly that he's not. When I was talking to Vinny Rettino the other day, of the Brewers who aren't going to the All-Star game that should, Bowers would be the best. Just because he hasn't been there before and he's kind of earned this. He's really earned this. And I think it's unfortunate that he's not. By the way, his seven three-run homers are the most in all of Major League Baseball this year. And really at that point, the game was put away until it wasn't. Bottom of the sixth, uh, Henderson leaves with two on after a hit by pitch and a walk. Chad Patrick faces Jordan Walker, who does what Walker does. He hit a three-run homer. That's that's what this dude does. Patrick made a bad pitch. And with Walker, when somebody makes a bad pitch, he hits it over the wall. That's what he did. It made it 6'4. Now the game's a game again. And the game within the game is how Bryce Tarang leads off the next inning. He sees six pitches. How? Because he's good at the plate. He's got great plate discipline. He fouls off pitches that are tough, doesn't swing at pitches out of the zone, and then he hits a leadoff home run on the sixth pitch of the at-bat to straightaway center field. Didn't think he got it, but he got it. It's 404 to center field in St. Louis. It wasn't going by a lot, but it was gone by enough. And that's a big answer back after St. Louis cut it to two. To make it three was a big deal. So I love that moment. And then in the ninth, Churio on speed. He doubles to open. He goes to third on a fly ball that's not really deep enough to go to third, but he does it. And then he scores on a fly ball that's not really deep enough to score, but he does it again with speed and a great slide into home. And that really was the insurance run that the Brewers needed. Made it 8-4. And that's what they do. The Brewers win by that margin. Against teams over 500, the stat behind the stat, the Brewers are now 33 and 19. So they are 14 games over 500 against teams that are over 500. There are so many things impressive about who this team is right now. Player of the game, Jake Bowers, two for four, three RBIs on that three-run home run and the slide. Honorable mention, Bryce Tarang, two for five, two RBIs, two runs scored, and great defense. Doesn't show up in the box score, but if you watch the game and the plays he made at second tonight, just fantastic. So the Brewers have three games left before the all-star break. And by the way, in that series, Sproat, Drone, and Ms. against Paul Skeens on Sunday. How good is that? All right, special edition of I Love Monday coming up, Monday's uh coming up tomorrow. KB, the stuff from the sports and stuff guy from the game, 97-3, when they used to have that. Remember? I used to do that. Uh KB is going to join me. I guess that's the point. All right, we're done. Uh a little bit more than eight minutes. Oh, I got some notes. Oh, some people uh in. I was looking at a different screen, so I didn't see it. Uh Jay said, we hope for six wins on this 11-game road trip now, eight and three. Yeah, crazy. Uh he added to that. Uh the more they win, I hope they make a big trade and really go for it. A top pitcher would make me so excited. Yeah, um, I've been talking about that a lot with friends today. I don't think they're gonna make the big move, but I do think it's interesting. Vinny uh joined me on I Love Mondays, and I do think it's interesting. He would like for them to go for the big deal. Uh I think that is gonna be a really interesting storyline over the next couple of weeks. Neil says Matt Arnold needs to make a big trade for another stud pitcher. Let's go for it this year. Uh, talk more about that. Uh, Dustin says, awesome win, Mike. Always great to beat the Cardinals. Even better to take four or five, have a great time on the tour down south. We are. We're having a blast. Uh, Jeffrey says Bryce Tarang is another snub. Jake, I agree with snub too. Yeah, for not going to the all-star break.
