The Brewers limp into the All-Star break after being swpt inb a 3-game sereis in Pittsburgh.  14-5 was the final on Sunday as the Pirates beat up on Robert Gasser including 10-runs in the 4th inning.

Hey, welcome in. Uh fresh back from a bourbon trail trip. That's why you didn't hear much me with the microphone, sorry. Um fresh back from our bourbon trail trip. Just got off the bus a little bit ago. That's why you didn't hear from me by good choice Saturday, and then today we were just on the bus when that game went final. So we welcome you in. And you know what this is. It is the uh going into the all-star break edition. It's also something that we've gotten a little accustomed to as fans of the Milwaukee Brewers. They have many times limped into the break, not always, but it seems like when they played Pittsburgh going to the break, it's not been so good. All right, so kind of an all-star break addition, but uh a couple of things I wanted to cover uh the bases on over this weekend. I'm gonna go back to uh uh something that I don't like, and that was yesterday game one of the double header. And yeah, I don't like that Aaron Ashby gave up a grand slam. Uh and Ashby is doing right now, and Murph talked about a post-game yesterday. He's doing right now. A little bit of what Euribe ran into some trouble, and McGill ran into some trouble, and Aspie is doing that now. And they asked about is he hitting a fatigue wall? Well, numbers don't show it in stuff, numbers show it in what he's given up. So he it's just more of an execution standpoint for him right now. Certainly, uh, this is gonna be a good break. That wasn't what bothered me on Saturday. Twice now in a week, twice in four days. Jake Bowers, who is gonna be my first half most valuable player out that that is not Ms. Jake Bowers has come to the plate twice in four days with the bases loaded, and he's pinch hit for him twice Pat Murphy has. This I do. I I can't pinch hit for Jake Bowers. I don't pinch hit for Kristen Yellich. Maybe sometimes you should. I don't pinch hit for Jackson Churio. I'm not pinch hitting for Jake Bowers. Can we stop that nonsense? Even if Andrew Vaughn is your pinch hitter. I'm not pinching for uh pinch hitting for Jake Bowers. Period. End of discussion. Didn't like it. And I know it's a result-driven thing, and Vaughn grounded into a game-ending double play. That's not my issue. My issue was before Vaughn stepped into the box. He shouldn't be in the box. That should be without any question, any hesitation. That should be Jake Bowers. A pinch hit for him makes no sense, period. So I'm kind of raging on that. I don't like it. Today the Brewers got hammered. They got beat 14 to 5. They they got what I got on the Bourbon Trail, drunk. That's how they played today. They they just they weren't in it, and they weren't in it from the beginning. Some of it I get Miz was a scratch. They decided uh yesterday to not pitch him today. Robert Gasser was not good. And Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh offensively is one of the better teams in all of baseball. Statistically, across the board, they're among the league leaders in a lot of numbers. They just don't pitch very well. Uh, but man, they can hit and they hit Gasser all over the yard today. 15 hits, 14 runs uh on those. They were seven of 13 with runners in scoring position, only left six on the bases. The Brew were five runs on eight hits, two for seven with runners in scoring position, six left on base, never in this one. So let me get to the final numbers of the first half. The Brewers are 59 and 34, and they lead the Cubs by five. So the division lead is by five. The Brewers still have the second best record in the National League, second best record in baseball. Um, it that would matter, certainly. You want to be one of the top two teams in the National League, and in doing so, you get the uh the first round bye. So if you're just looking at standings, and this is a good time to do it if you don't do it on the regular. I think now's a good time to do it. In the National League, the Dodgers are a game and a half better than the Brewers. The Brewers have a three and a half game lead over the Atlanta Braves, right? So five over the Cubs in the division, three over three and a half over the Braves for the second best record, and those things matter. So uh so we'll pay attention to that. Today was uh well, I think yesterday was the disappointment. Uh, you know, that first game, and then the second game, it was just kind of listless. But the first game, having it kind of in your hands, you got a 6-3 lead and you got your three best pitchers on in relief, and Ashby didn't have it. And one dude did uh with a grand slam and three home runs in two games. So that was a problem. Um, so let me give you a couple of ideas into the all-star break. We'll we'll do this a few times this week, but not every day because there is no game. So let me give you my all-star break most valuable player, not a pitcher, Jake Bowers, the guy I won't pinch hit for. The guy I won't pinch hit for. Jake Bowers, 18 homers, 59 runs batted in, career highs, 881 OPS. I'm not pinch hitting for him. I'm done. I I can't, I don't, I won't say it again today. Uh, but Jake Bowers is my MVP. All-star break MV pitcher, most valuable pitcher, Cy Young on your team. Uh, any doubt? But there's some numbers I want to dive into with the Miz. He's 10 and 4, 111 innings pitched. Um if you look at what he did a year ago, total innings pitch, he pitched 66 with the Brewers, 63 and a third in the minors. So last year he went 129 and a third innings pitched. He's gone 111 now. There's a reason I would think why he didn't bounce back and pitch today, and likely why they won't skip him, but they'll back end him in the rotation, essentially give him two full turns through. So my guess is he pitches early next week, Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, game four, five, or six out of the break. That will have given him a full two-week. It's not that he's not throwing in that time, but not pitching in a game in that time. And they might have to find a way to go about that a little bit more in the second half. Other Ms. numbers, he's got a 1.62 earned run average. That's first in all of baseball. His walks and hits per innings pitched whip is 0.76. That's first in baseball, and it's not close. He is uh 167 strikeouts, that's first. 27 walks is an amazing number. Juxtapose those two. Opponent batting average, 188 old gen stat. He's first. 17 games started. He's given up 20 earned runs. Uh there are big surprises on this team, too, not specifically individual, but just in a team uh statistics category. They're among all of baseball's leaders in runs scored. Now, you might not think so by looking at what they've done in the last 10 days into the break, but let me do one more thing before we kind of uh bow out of this one. When they had 27 games in 27 days to get you into the all-star break, they went 16 and 11 in those. And that's in losing the last three. I I had put a benchmark out there when they had 15 games left in 14 days that I thought, man, if they could go eight and seven in this, and I said this uh on the here and on I Love Mondays. I said, if they could go, if you told me they could go eight and seven in those 15, I'd have cast it in and said, I'll take the eight and seven. They went nine and whatever, nine and six. Hello, math. They went nine and six, and they lost the last three to do it. So it was a really good road trip in Arizona. They take two out of three in St. Louis, they take four out of five. But the Pirates are a problem. They've been a problem for the Brewers. I don't think they're a problem in the standings. Vinny Rettino keeps saying, hey, this is the team you got to pay some attention to. They're 50 and 47 at the break. They're nine and a half games out, and they have a little bit of life. A little bit of life. Keep this in mind. The Brewers are 19 and 10 against the NL Central. They're one and five against the Pirates. Half of their NL Central losses are against Pittsburgh. They've lost five out of the six against the Pirates so far. So uh I just want to jump back in. Uh, sorry I missed a couple. It was a wise decision to not do it. We were also, it's it's a vacation, also second business um with us with red and white wine and bourbon bar and and having friends and uh family and customers down there. So we we were in and out on this a little bit. Wasn't sure if I could do it. We did both morning shows the I Love Mondays on Thursday and Friday. Uh, and I did, I think, uh one or two of these brood dailies. One was rained out, so I guess maybe we just did one. Anyway, so here's the other. Uh I Love Mondays tomorrow. Aaron Nagler, Cheese Head TV, is going to be on with me about 10:15. If you watch it live, we'll go live at 10 a.m. Aaron Nagler will join me. Uh, and I've got a couple of these brood dailies sprinkled in this week uh to talk about where they are at the all-star break, uh, what they might need to do before the trade deadline, what's disappointing, what's next. We'll do that um probably Thursday. Um I think that's that's the plan. We'll do one Thursday and then they play on Friday and we'll get right back into it. All right, that's it.
