Hey, be honest with me now as we enter into Brood Daily on game number 99. Be honest. That was a boring game for eight innings and one out in the bottom of the ninth. I mean, neither team had a whole lot of offense. If you did great pitching, uh you got great pitching. I didn't even think there was extraordinary defense in the game. It was just really good pitching, which can be boring unless you're a pitcher. Uh, and it was the Brewers uh managed nothing in this game against really good pitching. And the Marlins managed almost nothing against really good pitching until the very end when the Brewers managed a lot on one swing. So let me welcome you in to Brew Daily on this Sunday. And another come from behind win for the Brewers. They're tied for the most in all of Major League Baseball. Final score was 3-1 Milwaukee. They get some stuff done today without the bats really obviously getting it going. So Milwaukee entered in. It was Yuri Perez for Miami. If you haven't seen him two outings ago, he went seven innings and didn't allow a hit. Then this outing, uh, by the time it's all said and done, and he's through, he finished the game, six innings pitched, one hit, nine strikeouts, three walks. Robert Gasser, his last time out, three innings pitched, eight hits, seven runs. That was a week ago in Pittsburgh. Not good. His record is two and four, 5.38 ERA, and he was very good in this one. Brewers entered the day with a six-game lead over Chicago. A little spoiler alert, Cubs win easily in their game over Minnesota 10-1. They took two of three, but the Brewers took three of four. So their lead in the division started the weekend post-all-star break at five. It's now at six. So uh that is also good news. Top of the third, uh Esturi Urez, uh Esturi Ruiz, who used to be a Brewer just for a short time. He had a solo home run his fifth of the year, a long blast to the corner and left, 420 feet. And that was all that Miami would get. They didn't really have much going at any point during the day. Other than that, they didn't have a lot of traffic. Gathser goes five innings, three hits, a run, five strikeouts, and that home run. Top of the sixth, Chad Patrick was great. The Brewers relievers, and I'll get to them in a minute, did a great job. What I thought was going to be the moment and the play of the game happened in the sixth. Yelits challenged a called strike three and won the challenge and ended up walking. He stole second. Turio got hit by a pitch. An error by Perez, the pitcher, put runners at second and third and nobody out for Bryce Tarang. He had a good at bat, but he struck out. So I guess it's not a good at bat. But at that point, it was a he had a long at-bat, fouled off a bunch of pitches, but ended up striking out. And at that point, the Brewers were six of 31 with runners in scoring position in the series. 10th pitch at bat. He struck out on a 101 mile an hour fastball. That was followed by Andrew Vaughan hitting a line drive with the infield in at the shortstop at 101 miles an hour, and it was caught right at him. And Yelich on the contact plate doubled off third. And the inning was over. I thought what that was going to be the play of the game. Perez finishes. I mentioned sixth innings, just the one hit. The bullpen for the Brewers today, Chad Patrick, Aaron Ashby, and Grant Anderson covered four innings, allowed three hits and no runs. Significant. You thought maybe, shoot, they're going to waste such a great pitching outing today. Bottom of the ninth inning. Brewers entered the bottom of the ninth, which is two hits. And they're going against Pete Fairbanks, who has good save numbers, but not good statistics. Churio led off with a line drive single into the gap in right center. I mean, it was a bullet. Tarang walked, but Vaughn struck out looking against Fairbanks, big at bat in the moment, but it led to the player of the game and the play of the game in the inning of the game, which I don't have. William Contreras did not start the game, but he came in. He was down on the count, 0-2, worked it to a 1-2, hit the cutter in a no-doubter. The bat flip, by the way, as high as I've ever seen a bat flip. And he had to wait for it to come down the original camera angle. Didn't show it uh coming down, but it did. And uh safely didn't land on anybody, but it was up in the air. And the Brewers win on one swing of the bat. They score their three runs on William Contreras home run. He came in off the bench. That wasn't a pinch it, it was his second at bat of the day. 29 comeback wins tied for first in all of Major League Baseball for the Brewers. And what a significant win. Their overall record, as I mentioned off the top, 62-37. That is 99 games in the books, and their lead over the second place Cubs is six. I'm not going to mention, I said yesterday, uh, I'm taking the Cardinals and the Pirates and the Reds out of the daily standings update. Because for now, and to the Brewers, they won't matter unless you're playing against them. Now, that might matter for them, certainly, in a wild card race, but for me to update you on their standings doesn't matter. Cubs did win 10-1. Let me get a couple of uh mentions here on the day. Mitch says Yellett needs to shorten his stance. Yeah, I don't know. I I don't know, Mitch. I don't even know what to say to that. I I don't know. I mean, they got pretty capable guys looking at that stuff. I don't know what he needs to do on his stance. Uh 62 and 37, Darren. Yes. Did I say that wrong earlier, or are you just re-emphasizing? Uh and then Neil, fantastic recap. Let's push all the chips in for another stud starting pitcher. Um, one and a half games behind the Dodgers for the top spot in all the baseball, but also, you know, continuing to cement their spot. It's it's uh that cement is not ready to uh to form yet. It's it's just you know, we're mixing it to get into the top two so you get that first round bye, which I think is significant. Um it's just it's a big win. You know, how much fun is tomorrow night, by the way? The Mets are coming to town, and it is Freddie Peralta and Jacob Mizerowski on the mound tomorrow night at American Family Field 640, is the first pitch. I would also add this. I I think it's probably, if it's not, it's one of the last starts for Freddie as a New York Met. He's going to be traded. Now, the really interesting thing, we'll talk about this with Vinny Rettino. He'll join me on I Love Mondays, Monday morning at 10 a.m. Right here, you see it on X or on YouTube. Uh Freddie could be ticketed to the Chicago Cubs. Wouldn't that be an interesting development? I don't think the Mets, and Vinny and I talked about this last Thursday. I don't think the Mets and David Stearns are going to entertain that conversation with the Brewers. He would be a good Brewers target, but I don't think the Mets and David Stearns, imagine the fallout there if he traded Freddie back to Milwaukee for lesser than what he got when he traded for or sent away to get him.
