Brewers win their 4th straight out of the AllStar break... 8-3 over the NY Mets.  The Miz got the start...went just 4-innings allowing an unearned run.  Milwaukee got 3 Home Runs in the game, including Cooper Pratt's 1st in the Big Leagues...also HR's from Andrew Vaughn and Joey Ortiz. Milwaukee owns MLB's best record at 63-37

So the Brewers get it done again tonight. Welcome into Brew Daily. I'm your host, Mike Heller. This one had all the makings because it was Mizarowski and fastball Freddie. Freddie coming back to Milwaukee. He was well, he was greeted very well by his former hometown crowd in Milwaukee and then greeted very well by Brewers Bats tonight, who had seven extra base hits and three home runs, four doubles in the game. The Brewers do it with the bats tonight and a little bit of pitching, but we'll get into some of that because I think that's part of the interesting story of what tonight was for the Brewers. So they do win 8-3. Miz went tonight for Milwaukee. His last outing was July 7th. And he pitched well against St. Louis in that one. So do the math now. That's 13 days since he last pitched. Freddie Peralta in the month of July had gone 13 innings going into tonight, giving up 16 hits, 10 runs, and had an ERA of 5.5 in the month of July. He's certainly a trade candidate, but he's not a high-level trade candidate, not with the way he's pitched for the New York Mets, who came in at 42 and 58 on the year. The Brewers do get the win and improved to 63 and 37. Let's take you through this one. Milwaukee did all of the right things, even in the early going, the Brewers in the first. Miz got off to a decent start, gave up two singles in the first, but did strike out the side. Bottom of the first, Jackson Churio walked, scored on a double by Tarang into right field. Garrett Mitchell continues to be ridiculous in the month of July. And that ridiculous is a very good metaphor for him or very good description for how Garrett Mitchell has played this month. He added an RBI single in the inning, and the Brewers led it two to nothing. Miz struck out two more in the second, but we'll get to more on that in a minute. Bottom of the second, and this moment happened, the first of his career. It's my player of the game and my play in the game of the game, Cooper Pratt. First career home run over the wall in left center field, bounced in the bullpen and then up into the stands. But the the Brewers bullpen negotiated the ball right back. Cooper Pratt gets his first home run. He got the ball, and then he got the silent treatment in the dugout. One of my favorite moments. The Brewers kind of ignored him when he got back to the dugout. And after first or second pitch of the next at bat, then they let him all have it. And that that's one of the ways I think ball players know that they're accepted and loved, is that they get a hard time like that. That was, to me, the player of the game. Cooper Pratt had a couple of hits uh in his first career home run. When I say a couple of hits, I want to make sure I have that right. Uh I knew he had two, but he might have had three. Now he's three for four. So he has his first three-hit game and his first big league home run in that. So that's the obvious reason why he's the player of the game and the play of the game. Top of the third, a single and an error on Vaughn, who played first base tonight. And then Miz does a really good job. First and third, and nobody out. He got a double play that gave up a run, but that's an unearned run. And then he got out of the inning. Uh Murph said after the game that Miz did not throw a commanded fastball after the second inning. So they it was a short night. Again, I'll have more on that in the minute. Top of the third, a single, uh, and that error, and the Brewers get out of it with just the one run given up. And then they answer. And that's what good teams do. Garrett Mitchell, hot again, ground rule double, and that's followed by a Vaughn two-run home run. Just his third, by the way. And his first in Milwaukee since last year. He hadn't had one there this year. Uh, and that was important. And it was a bullet, line drive bullet. Miz is done then for the night after the fourth inning. Here's his final line: four innings pitched, four hits, one run unearned, six strikeouts, and a walk. But I'm gonna skip a little bit of the game and get to some of the post-game. I'll come back to uh what Joey Ortiz uh did later. Uh, I'm gonna go to what needs to be better, and the Brewers are doing it. They're protecting Miz right now, very aware of him at all times. Uh, they monitored. Murph didn't like how Miz was working. He was not right, stuff wasn't great. He was out of it. Long layoff affected his delivery. His VLO dropped, couldn't find the rhythm, didn't throw a commanded heater past the second inning. And Murphy's used this word at the end of that statement. He said, concerning. So again, when they scratched him from the start in Pittsburgh, I said this is something to keep an eye on. It's not a red flag, but it is a bit of a warning flair. Keep an eye on what they're doing. Last year he went 129 innings over minor and major league baseball. This year, going into tonight, 111. So four innings tonight, 115. They're not going to keep him below that number. However, in a game like this, so important that the Brewers had those add-on runs because they were able to take care of it. That's the storyline, I think, of this game. Yes, the Brewers get their fourth straight win. Yes, they now have Major League Baseball's best record. Hello. How about that on July 20th? Um, the rest of the game, the Brewers did get tag on runs, tag on runs. Bottom of the sixth, Jory Ortiz, his fifth home run, a three-run homer from Joey. And then the other encouraging part of tonight, Lance McCullers Jr. went three innings in this game, gave up two hits and two runs in three innings of work. He hadn't worked much. His last outings have been rehab outings. So that was very good. And the Brewers ultimately get the win. Uh tomorrow they'll go with Sproat against Zach Thornton. By the way, how about Billy Aaron on the broadcast tonight? The Brewers celebrating the 755th and final home run for Hank Aaron in July of 1975. And Billy Aaron, his wife, in the booth tonight with Brian Anderson and Rock. That was such a cool moment. All right, final line for the Brewers tonight. They win eight runs, 10 hits, one error, three of nine with runners in scoring position, five runners left on base for the Mets, three runs, six hits, no errors, one of five with runners in scoring position, seven left on base. Brewers are now 63 and 37. Double checking to see if there are any other uh final scores. 63 and 37. Cubs trail in Chicago, top of the eighth, five-three against Detroit. If that final held, the Brewers lead in the division would grow to seven. Right now it's at six and a half. Cubs come back and win. It'll be six. It'll be seven if they don't. But the Brewers do have Major League Baseball's best record on July 20th. They'll do it again tomorrow night. Thanks for being with us on Brood Daily tonight.
