Brewers lose 4-0 to the New York Mets.. Milwaukee only managed 4-hits in the game and has their 4-game winnings steak come to an end

Well, that's the look of disgust. Not a whole lot to give you on the good news front tonight for the Brewers. Welcome to Brew Daily. Maybe a touch later than what we normally go. I was at uh a Madison Mallard's Northwoods League game, doubleheader tonight with uh a bunch of friends uh that we do this uh one time a year. Usually it's a brewers game, but it's been a Beloit Skycarp game in the past. Tonight it was a Mallard's game. So home um and back in front of uh this to do brew daily a little bit later, and not much to go from on this one. So we welcome you in, and it was a 4-0 shutout. The Mets had four runs on 13 hits, no errors, one of nine with runners in scoring position, and they left 11 on base. They had a lot of traffic, like it should have been, could have been an 11-0 kind of a game. The Brewers, no runs, four hits, no errors, 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position, and three left on base. Let me tell you a little bit about this one because Zach Thornton, Zach Thornton, I think he extended his uh his scoreless streak now to almost 20 innings, and he's pretty good. And the Brewers found that out uh in this one tonight. So the lead in the central division drops to six. Chicago uh gets an 11-2 win in 10 innings, or 11-2 win in against Detroit, not in 10 innings, 11-2. Uh so they get a win and improved to 57 and 44, six games back of the Brewers. So we'll see how that goes. Top of the second in this one, Brandon Sproke got the start, gave up uh solo home run there, and then they got another solo home run. The Mets did in the eighth inning from Lewis Robert uh Jr. And that one made it 3-0 in between. Carson Bengi a double, and that was an RBI double. That made it 2-0. Spro wasn't great tonight, but the, you know, by last check, and I'll look this up if you need the ultimate proof on it. If you don't score a run, you can't win the game. And the Brewers didn't score a run tonight. Devin Williams, by the way, pitched the ninth. It was his first time pitching at American Family Field since pitching against the Mets in the final game of that wild card series that Pete Alonso homered on him. Uh, and he was clean in the ninth. He gave up a hit, but that was it. Player of the game. Turns out that Zach Thornton's pretty good. Uh pretty good pitcher. A final line tonight, six innings pitch, three hits, no runs, two strikeouts, lowers his ERA to sub-two. He now has a 1.93 earned run average. So Mets are onto something with him. Uh really tough left-hander. Play of the game. I I suppose if the Brewers had a chance in this one, it was um in the sixth. They got runners at first and second, and then had one out, and a pitch got away. Ortiz is the runner at first, Pratt's the runner at second. Uh I'd be interested in what other people thought of this, but I looked at it and I thought, Pratt's got to go, and Ortiz can't run him off. So two things are true at the same time. Pratt's got to get a better read on it from second base, he's the runner at second, because it was certainly hopped away far enough for both runners to advance. That's a game-changing moment. But if you're gonna charge the error, and there is no error, but if you were gonna give an error on the play, it would be that Ortiz went. Because when Ortiz goes and Pratt doesn't, then Pratt's done. And the Mets got the out and then a fly ball to the left to end the inning. So I'm gonna put it on Ortiz. He simply can't go if he doesn't see the runner from second going. And then I would give a little secondary, a little uh hockey assist error to Pratt because the ball got away far enough, he's got to read that and go. But it's it simply put, Ortiz has no choice. He can't go until or unless Pratt does. And to me, that was the uh the moment of the game. If you're looking at it and trying to figure out what the play of the game is, to me, it's that it was your really your only scoring chance in the game tonight was that moment, and Ortiz can't run him off. And then I've got another stat that I want to share with you. Uh Jay says Spro needs to find efficiency with his pitches. Yeah, very high pitch count, a lot of pitches to get through where he got in the game and felt it was a bad read by Pratt at second. Yeah, it was. Ortiz, I mean, the initial concept there, there are two things. Pratt's got to read it better because he's gotta go. But Ortiz can only go if Pratt goes. So I'm really gonna give a double base running error in that moment just because of those things. Uh, what needs to be better? Top seven hitters for the Brewers. How about this? And then we'll cut this one um on the short end tonight. How about this? Top seven hitters in the lineup for the Brewers went one for 23. That's it. Put it away. They're gonna play again tomorrow, and the whole deal here is take two out of three in the series. You've already got a hell of a homestand going by winning your first four. You lost tonight, you're four and one on the homestand, win tomorrow, get a day off on Thursday, and then see how you handle the weekend against another bad team in Colorado that comes in. So, wipe it, get rid of it, flush it. It wasn't any good. There's not much from this game that you look at. If you were there, I'm sorry, it was boring. Uh, what's next? Next, Logan Henderson tomorrow against Christian Scott day game, then an off day on Thursday, and Friday's a matinee as well, and followed by the Legends reunion game for the Brewers. So go Logan Henderson and get a win on Wednesday afternoon and make this a really good start to a homestand that has a chance to be fantastic. You're four and one now, get to five and one tomorrow.
