Brewers beat the Mets 4-3 to improve theirr record to 64-38.  Joey Ortiz went 3-3 with 2rbi, 2 runs scored, a stolen base, and a walk.  Milwaukee has Thursday off and plays host to Colorado Friday at 3:10

Anybody getting tired of this yet? The Brewers continue to do what they do. Really impressive again today. I don't want to get too hyperbolic. Hyperbolic. It is an impressive run that the Brewers are continuing to stay on. They win again today. 4-3 is the final. So the Brewers improve to 64 and 38. 64 and 38. It's uh it that is uh really impressive. 102 games in and sitting at 64 wins. They do this one four to three. We welcome you aboard to brew daily. Tomorrow will be an off day, but today they'll take this into an off day. There are only six of them remaining this year. So tomorrow's one of the six remaining off days for the Brewers. Big win today. Let me take you through this one, top of the second. Logan Henderson is on the mound today for the Brewers, coming off a five-inning, three hit, one run outing his last timeout against Miami. And he's pretty good today. Uh, he gives up a couple of solo home runs, top of the second, maybe the play of the day until the end. Happened defensively in the second from Joey Ortiz, and he kind of foreshadowed what the day was going to be like for him on a bunt attempt from Jared Young, who's a left-handed hitter, and he's very fast down the line. And just an incredible defensive play by Joey Ortiz, who knew he couldn't barehand it, had to glove it. Really quick transition, great throw, gets the out. Why is that such a big deal? Nobody's on base. Well, part of it is that the next hitter, Marcus Simeon, hit a solo home run. So he kept it a solo home run if you believe in those things. Bottom of the second, this is what the Brewers have done so often this year. They answer a run with their own. And they do that today. Bottom of the second, first and third, nobody out. Bowers pops up, Pratt strikes out, but Joey Ortiz, who later on will be your player of the day, two run triple assist to Brett Beatty in right field, who's an infielder by trade, and he misplayed the ball. But because he misplayed it so badly and he doesn't get a glove on it, it bangs off the wall and it should have been caught, but it ends up being a triple. That's followed by Kristen Yelich, who goes the other way on a bullet line drive single, and the Brewers get two back. They lead it two to one at the end of two. Top of the fifth, Beatty atoned offensively for his mistake earlier, hit a long solo home run, and we're right back in a game. Bottom of the fifth, single by Churio and by Tarang. Back-to-back singles. Tarang's 110 miles an hour. Contreras with a fielder's choice to third, but it ends up being a hit because Tarang beat the throw to second. So they were just going to get the force play at second, but Bryce Tarang had such a great secondary lead and a really good jump. And the Mets are not very good on defense. The throw wasn't there quick enough. Tarang beat it. So bases loaded, nobody out, and I scratched my head here. Mitchell struck out looking, and Vaughn hit into a 6'4-3 double play. Andrew Vaughn is not fast. So that came back to haunt him in that moment. Let me see. I got comments coming in. I want to make sure I get them. Eric says Joey O is on fire. Yeah, Eric, Joey O is on fire. Yeah. Really impressive what he continues to do. All right, let's go to the top of the sixth. Aaron Asby comes in. Worth a one, two, three. So Logan Henderson's final line today, five innings pitched, five hits, two runs, nine strikeouts, tied a career high in that. Not dominating, not as deep as you'd like to be, but really good. And a wide open, rested bullpen with a day off tomorrow. Ashby went two innings. So he gets a one, two, three in the sixth. And then for the second inning, he allowed a walk, but ended up with four strikeouts, no hits in his two innings pitched. Bottom of the sixth, two out, double play, uh followed by a Yelich triple off the wall in center. Right? So big play, Joey Ortiz doubles, and then you get the, and it was a he kept running, but the ball got caught underneath the tarp down the left field line. All all stadiums have to have all big league fields have to have a tarp. Um they got a roof, but whatever. Got caught under the tarp, and then uh Yelich hit one off the wall in center, 403 feet away. So Yelich had a really good day with a RBI single and an RBI triple off the wall in center. Uh for me, we go to the top of the eighth now. Brewers are in a good spot in the game with their lead. Play of the game, though. Jorge Polanco hits one to the right of Tarang. It's first and second and two outs. And then Tarang off balance couldn't flip the second. I don't know if he had a good grip on the ball initially, then makes a great throw, strong throw, a little up the line, but Bowers, it's a rock called it a two circles, two defensive circles on the play. One for Tarang and one for Bowers. He's dead on with that. Top of the ninth, Brewers lead 4-2. McGill comes on, gives up his first run since June the 5th. Runner at first and two outs, and why not? Line drive, uh a bullet hit at Joey Ortiz, and he makes the play to end the game. Really great diving play on the hop, and the Brewers end it. Player of the game, pretty simple. There were options. Yelich with two hits, two RBIs, Aspie, two great innings, but Ortiz, brilliant defense, early and late, three for three, two runs, two RBIs, a stolen base, and a walk. And by the way, he was a home run shy of the cycle. The walk comes in in his last at bat. When he didn't expand the zone, players, you know, they want to hit in that spot, but he did not expand the zone, and he's our player of the game. What needs to be better? Well, I went a little old school and new school on what needs to be better. Old school is the game took too long. Average time a game this year is two hours and 45 minutes, up a tick from last year because of the ABS challenge system. And I'll get to that in a moment. So what did we finish at? Maybe three hours and 10 minutes-ish, really close to that. I don't have the official game time, but game was a little bit too long. And Andy Fletcher, let's go new school on this with the ABC, ABS challenge system. He wasn't very good today. He's the home plate umpire, a lot of challenges, and almost all of them ended up being overturned ball strike calls. So those are my what needs to be better. What's next? And off day for the Brewers. They'll have a three-game series against Colorado, Drowan, Gasser, and Miz. So Miz goes Monday and now Sunday. You're going to see a little bit of this as we roll forward. Uh, a couple of notes here. Yeah. Uh I get it, Darren. Uh boy, you got to get Jake Bowers back on track. His bat is really needed, and right now it's not that good. Uh, true enough. Jay says, good to see Aspie bounce back. Yeah, he was sharp today. Uh, Jay, also, Brewers really have their challenge system down so much better than under counsel. Yeah, you're talking about the challenge in the field. Uh, yeah, really good on that. And the ABS for that matter. And then Jay Tough Ump. Uh, yeah, he was not good today behind Own Plate. So that takes care of our brew daily. Brewers get the win today. The final is 4-3. A little update on the standings. Cubs don't play until tonight. Brewers at 64 and 38. Lead the Cubs by 6.5. Pittsburgh won today in extra innings in New York. Pittsburgh's a team to watch for the wild card. And they're 11 games back of the Brewers, so maybe not in the division, but they're now 53 and 49. St. Louis was scoreless in their game that started late this afternoon, so I don't have their final result in Cincinnati. Uh, doesn't matter, unless you're a Reds fan.
