SPEAKER_02

Hello, and welcome to the Scooby-Zone, the podcast where two and two are five as we watch an episode of Scooby-Doo Media. I'm Rob. And I'm Katie. And today we'll be watching Hassel in the Castle, episode three of Scooby-Doo Where Are You?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, the lucky number three.

SPEAKER_02

Well, we've got two episodes down. Time to get a third one in.

SPEAKER_01

Let's do it.

SPEAKER_02

You know. It's only going. Are we going uphill or downhill yet? I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

We'll have to wait and see what happens with that one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But hey. You know, we're on three episodes of 25, so.

SPEAKER_01

Doing pretty good so far.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Um, you know, um, if you want to get in touch with us, our email is ScoobyZonepodcast at gmail.com. Um as of right now, with recording, we have yet to set up any social media pages. Um obviously those will be up by the time you are hearing this. Um, as we mentioned in our previous episode, we are pre-recording a lot of episodes to get uh handle on just how much we have for some wiggle room. We're both, you know, 33-year-old adults with you know our own full-time jobs and other adult responsibilities.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, so it timing for us to get together to record can be a little sparse, you know. Life gets in the way of things, you know. It happens.

SPEAKER_00

It does. It definitely happens.

SPEAKER_02

So before we post our first episode, just want to get a little bit of a buffer in case, you know, something goes wrong and you know we want to put an episode out on a week where we haven't been able to record, well, then we'll at least have something for you guys.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

So if you've already have written to us and have wondered, hey, why haven't they addressed my stuff on the podcast yet? You know, that's why. Promise, we will. Okay. You know, and you know, if you have written to us, you know, there's a good chance by the time you are hearing this, we've at least responded to you by email, you know, thanking you for your posts, like trying to get a little more of a one-on-one with the fans, with the fans. Um, but um, so you know, thank you for being patient. Love to hear from you guys. So if you haven't sent us anything, feel free to, you know, whatever you guys want to talk about. Scooby, just whatever. You know, what other shows you think we should, you know, talk about. Um, I know in our last episode we talked how, you know, we've discussed um ideas of what we could do if we wanted to try to monetize the podcast. Um one possibility that we've thought of. Um, I think I've put a little bit more thought into it than you have. I'm not a hundred percent sure though. Um the the idea of starting a Patreon or something where we cover stuff that's not necessarily Scooby.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

You know, letting you guys decide, you know, what we might, you know, watch an episode of, or you know, have some sort of say, and then, you know, use that as a testing ground. Like, hey, would you guys be interested in listening to us watch all what how many episodes are in the original Teen Titans run?

SPEAKER_01

I have no idea. Um like five seasons or something. It's five seasons. I don't know. Plus one movie.

SPEAKER_02

Um that's what, 13 episode seasons. Um trying to do math. That's what 65 episodes.

SPEAKER_00

It might be. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Um well we'll get back to you.

SPEAKER_00

We'll get back to you.

SPEAKER_02

I know we talked about Teen Titans the other day.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, we do.

SPEAKER_02

You know, the the the original 2003 series specifically. Um you know, but you know, that's always a possibility, you know. Because, you know, as much as it does sound like we have a lot of Scooby to cover, and again, yes, we do have a lot of Scooby to cover. Of course, you know, it's eventually it's gonna get to the point where it's like we'll run out of Scooby.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, we will, eventually.

SPEAKER_02

You know, that's like while I would love to cover everything, there's certain parts of Scooby-Doo medium that we won't, like we're not gonna go into the comics or anything. So if you came here, you know, wanting to listen to us talk about Scooby Apocalypse or um I think it's a Scooby-Doo mystery team up. There's a set of comics where he he's teamed up with a bunch of different um characters. Um, I think a lot of it's specifically DC heroes or other Hanna Barbera characters. But uh, you know, that's not as engaging as watching a show or a movie. So specifically would love to watch all of the shows.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

All of the movies, all the movies, um, special guest appearances and other shows um that aren't necessarily just limited to a quick cameo appearance. Um because Scooby-Doo has cameoed and a lot of different things.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, he has.

SPEAKER_02

Um and even then some of the things that aren't necessarily just quick cameos might not necessarily be grabbing to our attention. Like, there's a I know there's a episode of Teen Titans Go. Um, I believe it's called Cartoon Feud, where it's the Teen Titans on Family Feud against the mystery age.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. I remember that episode that you talk about it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Um don't quite know if we will cover that on the podcast. Um you know, but a lot of the more, in my opinion, memorable ones I want to cover. Um, you know, the crossover with Johnny Bravo.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Um, the very much loved Scooby Natural.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, that will definitely have to be covered. You know that as well as I do.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, I know. And fans you will be in a delight for that.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, definitely.

SPEAKER_02

It will not be a night of fright.

SPEAKER_01

It will not be a night of fright. You got that one.

SPEAKER_02

Um, you know, or like um, possibly, you know, even like um, you know, just because of its sheer simplicity and yet ridiculousness. Um, for those of you who know of the adult swim show Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, there is an episode with Shaggy and Scooby heavily involved with it. Um we will be covering that episode, but not Shaggy's second appearance in the series.

SPEAKER_01

Nope, just that one.

SPEAKER_02

Um again, you know, just for some clarity's sake, um, I do know that I don't think it'll be uh the first Halloween special we might do, but possibly the second one for a second Halloween special that we'll do um that um we for the second Halloween special, we will not be covering the Scooby-Doo project. Um don't worry, we will be covering that. Yeah, we will be. Um that will honestly that will probably be a first Halloween project.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the first one because we need to cover that one.

SPEAKER_02

That or we'll we will just fit it in once we finish a you know one of the two series that we will be uh covering within our first year of podcasting.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Um but we get timing down better, um, and we have a better shot of knowing what's going on with the podcast, um I would like to run our own Scooby-Doo and Courage the Cowardly Dog Scarathon.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yes.

SPEAKER_02

Um for those of you who don't know, back in the year 2000, um, so yeah, 26 years ago, um Cartoon Network, they had a cartoon called Courage of the Cowardly Dog, which was uh I've heard Scooby-Doo described as being like a kid's horror property. Um in which it's like I could see where you you can get that description from, you know, Scooby involves monsters and everything.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

But uh Scooby-Doo is very much not very horror-esque. Um Courage of the Cowardly Dog, however, is um there are just a lot of disturbing, creepy episodes of that series.

SPEAKER_01

There definitely is.

SPEAKER_02

But back in the year 2000, Cartoon Network for one week in the around the middle of October, um, I believe it was the middle of middle of October, they ran a kind of cross-promotional contest. Um, that for one whole week they had a programming block for an hour of which they would play an episode of Scooby-Doo and an episode of Courage of the Cowardly Dog. And it was bookend by all new scenes of the mystery machine breaking down in the middle of nowhere in front of the farmhouse that Courage lives in with, you know, his caretakers. And, you know, it was essentially established that they were trying to determine on which dog was the most scared. And so it was framed as them retelling, you know, for the you know, for Mr. Inc., they were retelling mysteries, which would be the Scooby-Doo episode. And, you know, for courage, it'd be the retelling of, you know, an episode of Courage. Yep. And throughout that week, I believe that there was a special number you could call where you could vote on who you thought was the most scared. And at the end of it, um, the winner who was the most scared would be the one who would get a 24-hour marathon on Halloween. And I believe that your courage won. Uh, which again, not surprising. Um, courage is a very there are some episodes of Courage of the Cowardly Dog that can be very disturbing that even as a 33-year-old adult, like there are just some episodes I I just I cannot watch. Like, I think that might have to do with you know, growing up with that and a lot of that nostalgic fear. Yep. Um, but you know, you know, you know, we'd love for your guys' suggestions on which episodes we should take into consideration on to the you know, determining who we think is really takes the crown.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Um you know, especially now that Scooby has so many more years of episodes.

SPEAKER_01

Right, yeah, he has so many more now than we do back then.

SPEAKER_02

Because yeah, back then, like that only went from where are you to a pup named Scooby-Doo.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

You know, now we have you know, we have you know what's new, Scooby-Doo and Mystery Incorporated to take into consideration.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Um I don't think the movies were because if the movies were considered, I mean Zombie Island would have just won that for Scooby hands down.

SPEAKER_01

No, that would definitely have won.

SPEAKER_02

Um yeah, maybe keep it fair to the 22-minute episodes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I suppose.

SPEAKER_02

But you know, but yeah, with that, like I think what's new, Scooby-Doo and Mystery Incorporated for sure, like really help balance things out. Um I don't think be cool, Scooby-Doo or Scooby-Doo and Guess Who will help with the creep factor for Scooby.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think they it will.

SPEAKER_02

Um but so going back to the episode for today, Hassle in the Castle. This is an episode I've got feelings about. I you know, this is honestly one of the probably the most seen episode of Scooby-Doo for me. Um, at least as a kid, um, as an adult having more control of what episodes I'm really watching.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, but like, you know, this episode was on two VHS tapes I had growing up. The first one being Scooby-Doo's Greatest Mysteries, uh, which has a clue for Scooby-Doo, which was our previous episode. Yep. Deeper's It's the Creeper and The Backstage Rage. Yep. But this was also included on uh Scooby-Doo's Creepiest Capers, which had Go Away Ghost Ship, Haunted House Haynup, and A Night A Fright Is No Delight. Which, you know, again, when we get to that episode, you guys are in for a delight.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, you definitely are in for a delight.

SPEAKER_02

I believe this episode is also on the VHS tape of Scooby-Doo's original mysteries. Because that I believed was the first five episodes of Scooby-Doo. Um so, yeah, this episode really had a lot of push back in the day. If any of you listeners want to look up what was on Scooby-Doo's spookiest tales, um, you know, go right ahead, because I think that was like the last VHS compilation tape that I know of. Um that I did not have that one, so I don't know what the um actual episode list on that is. Um but anyways, so yeah, I've got some feelings about this. Um but again, that's not necessarily a good thing, that's not necessarily a bad thing. No, it's not you know, you know, it's a that's a almost 60-year-old show.

SPEAKER_01

It's like oh, did you just pull up the I did, I just found I just ended up finding it.

SPEAKER_02

So what episodes are on?

SPEAKER_01

Vampires, bats, and scaredy cats, a gaggle of galloping ghosts, that snow ghost, and which is which.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, that's a actually pretty solid list of episodes. It is one, a little surprised, a little surprise that they don't have Hassel in the castle.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, because it's on all the other ones I wanted to put on this case.

SPEAKER_02

I wish I would have had that. I wish I would have had that VHS tape now, because I mean, okay, that's no goes, like that's an okay episode.

SPEAKER_01

Like that's a pretty good episode.

SPEAKER_02

I I know that one is on the Scooby-Doo Winter Wonder Dog uh winter collection. Oh, yeah, that is um that has the Nutcracker Scoob and two other episodes I can't think of off the top of my head. Yep. Um but like Witch Witches Which is a great episode. Um A Gagle of Galloping Ghosts is one that's just a fun word to say.

SPEAKER_01

It is definitely.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and that's one of the more ridiculous episodes, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, more ridiculous.

SPEAKER_02

Um, but like vampire bats and scaredy cats, like that's got Scooby-Dumb.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it does have Scooby-Dumb. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like, it's one of the very few episodes of Scooby-Dumb.

SPEAKER_01

It is.

SPEAKER_02

Which is weird to think that Scooby-Dumb is only in four episodes.

SPEAKER_01

It is.

SPEAKER_02

But he's part of that show's theme.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

But okay. Yeah. We're gonna go ahead and get to the episode now. So let's split up games, search for clues, and we will be back. And we're back. That was Hassel in the Castle.

SPEAKER_01

Episode three.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. So let's not beat around the bush. Let's go straight up from the top.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, straight from the top.

SPEAKER_02

Now, we open with a spooky castle with a spooky ghost looking out of it. And honestly, I think the castle's a lot more spookier than the ghost.

SPEAKER_01

I definitely agree with that one.

SPEAKER_02

Um, just for a visual idea of what the ghost looks like. If you didn't watch the episode, think of somebody wearing a white bed sheet as a ghost.

SPEAKER_01

Um can't get any more simpler than that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, but we'll talk more about that in a bit.

SPEAKER_01

We'll talk more about that later.

SPEAKER_02

Um, we then pan over some water to find the gain is boating. And, you know, Daphne comments that it's a spooky day for a boat ride. Fred says that, you know, it started out nice and clear, wonders what happens, and Velma proceeds with some nerd talk.

SPEAKER_01

Speak English, Velma. Not all of us are nerds like you.

SPEAKER_02

Um, yeah. Sh you know, could have written down the exact thing she says, but it was all just gibberish. It was all um it basically translates into they were lost in a fog.

SPEAKER_01

Could have said that. That would have made a lot more sense versus whatever stuff she was rambling that we didn't really understand because, like we said, we're not nerds in that level.

SPEAKER_02

Um they end up running their boat into the island. They get off and they see the castle and figure that, hey, that must be old Vasquez Castle, which means we're on Haunted Isle. You know, they're standing around talking. Scooby goes off sniffing. As he usually does. Yep. Finds a piece of paper that is over a crab. So Scooby gets into a fight with said crab, so take a drink. Take a drink, yep. Um, he ends up running away, covering everyone else in sand, and gives Fred the piece of paper, which on one side is a map, but on the other side there's a warning message. Which I've gotta say, a lot of the printing for some of the for these episodes so far has been pretty consistently legible.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. That's good.

SPEAKER_02

At least that part is showing. Um which, you know, it's so easy with animation. Like, granted, you know, we got the couple of the newspapers in the previous episode where it's like it's just lines to show that there's writing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But when we had a close-up on the newspaper in that episode, like you could make out words of what it was actually saying.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and here, like, yeah, you can read the message of danger.

SPEAKER_01

Leave haunted aisle.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

In which Scooby, you know, points, you know, sees the message first, takes the map from Fred, and shows him the message.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Well You know, Fred says that they've got a mystery. So they're gonna go look inside the castle. As they're walking along in the castle, Daphne, being a danger-prone damsel that she is, we go here falls down a trapdoor.

SPEAKER_01

So that only happens in movies.

SPEAKER_02

So take a drink, guys.

SPEAKER_01

Take another drink, guys.

SPEAKER_02

Um, you know, they remark that Daphne's gone. Uh Daphne fall, you know, comes out of the slide under the trapdoor. Says that her intuition is telling her to go a certain way, walks off that way, missing the ghostly hand that comes out of the wall trying to grab her.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Not quite sure how that would have worked, but okay.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, it's Scooby logic. It doesn't have to make sense.

SPEAKER_02

Um, as the game is walking around looking for Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby fall a little behind and get lost at uh talking skullhead that responds to Shaggy when he asks which way Fred and Velma went. Shaggy's scared, runs off, mentions he needs a ham sandwich to calm his nerves. And what happens? A ham sandwich appears. A ghost hand sandwich. It's just floating there. It's gotta be a ghost. It's gotta be a ghost. I want to know who I want to know who murdered that sandwich. To turn it into a ghost. Um Shaggy asks for some mustard. Mustard. And comments that it's gotta be his imagination, because otherwise even he would be scared.

SPEAKER_01

He'd be scared to death.

SPEAKER_02

Wants his imagination to cut it in half while the sandwich is laying on a table in front of a suit of armor. At that precise moment, the suit of armor's hand holding the axe comes down and cuts the sandwich in half. You know, Shady and Scoob run off scared. But Shay goes back for the sandwich.

SPEAKER_01

I mean he's gotta eat the sandwich. They're hungry.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

He didn't eat anything before. He's gonna eat something now.

SPEAKER_02

With all the cardio he does running away from monsters, like he's gotta eat something.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly.

SPEAKER_02

As they're running, um runs past Daphne, who hears them and is holding a vase ready to defend herself, just smack Shaggy right on the head.

SPEAKER_01

Right on the head.

SPEAKER_02

In which, you know, that garners the attention of Fred and Velma. And at that moment is when they first see the ghost. Just standing there laughing, you know, says that, you know, they leave Haunted Isle. And never return. Fred, Shaggy, and Scooby run at the ghost and they jump towards it, trying to grab him, but they go right through. Like, even freaking out the normally stoic Fred. Um, and even Velma suggests the idea that the place is haunted.

SPEAKER_01

Like, thanks, man.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Um, Shaggy says that you know maybe they should just listen to the ghost and leave. And Fred tells them that there's three good reasons why they can't. Number one, no phantom is gonna scare them off this island. Number two, why does he want them off the island so bad? And number three, they're marooned. Honestly, only that last one makes any sort of sense.

SPEAKER_01

Well, Shaggy said he'll buy that last one. Well, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, because it's like I mean, look we can touch on this more when we get to the end of the episode, but like kind of those first two points are unnecessary.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know, point is like they're kind of stuck.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Um, you know, while Shaggy and Fred are talking, Daphne finds a giant key with the inscription Um Second Passage of the Old Bell. In which, knowing what they know about Cast this this specific castle is that there's no old bell. So it's gotta be talking about a book. So they go to the castle's library, find a book called The Old Bell, that has the word catacombs underlined in red. So they're like, well, catacombs are in the basement. So let's go down to the basement.

SPEAKER_01

Of course.

SPEAKER_02

Um you go down there, the giant key opens it, um, and they decide to send Scooby in first to make sure it's okay.

SPEAKER_01

Of course.

SPEAKER_02

Scooby. His excuse this time is that he's got a stomach ache. Oh yeah, stomach ache. And to get him in, they bribe him with three Scooby snacks. So Scooby goes in, finds a magician top hat, pulls a rabbit out, puts it back in before realizing, hey, that was weird.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Taps it with a magic wand that was laying on there, in which a flower comes up and squirts him in the eye, goes back down, and Scooby's like, yeah, seems fine to me. Let's the others in.

SPEAKER_01

Yep, nothing wrong with that.

SPEAKER_02

So, you know, they're looking around, in which they hear some footsteps, they run into a closet, and inside the closet is the ghost that, you know, t warns them again that they were told to leave, and then proceeds to chase them around this room, which is weirdly full of a bunch of magic stuff. You know, they've got some vanishing, disappearing cabinets, and we get a shot of Shaggy being sawn in half, which freaks Velma out until she finds out that the Shaggy head she was talking to is just the dummy head.

SPEAKER_01

Well.

SPEAKER_02

And then we find the real Shaggy scrunched up in the other half.

SPEAKER_01

Did someone mention me?

SPEAKER_02

Fred and Daphne find a magic carpet that levitates for them. And after a bunch of just needless running around, you know, they come up with a plan in which Fred builds this, like the you know, he really does build a better mouse trap.

SPEAKER_01

He does, doesn't he? Pretty good.

SPEAKER_02

Um, it is like it is, you know, when you think of Scooby-Doo traps, like, you're usually thinking of a Rube Goldberg contraption of just pure ridiculousness. And that's what this is, you know. Basically, they use the magic carpet to as a slide to where that goes on to an old-fashioned bellows that will trigger a suit of armor to smack them in the head with a uh mace to blow some air that will push uh cannonball and a crossbow that's tied to a plunger and shoots uh basket to capture the Phantom Phantom and then hoist them up into the air. Well, they have their trap built, but they need the bait.

SPEAKER_01

Hmm, I wonder who that could be.

SPEAKER_02

And of course, it's Scooby.

SPEAKER_01

Who else would it be?

SPEAKER_02

But the Scooby's not gonna chase but the Phantom's not gonna chase Scooby because he's he's a dog.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So what do they do? They disguise Scooby as a human. And instead of bribing him with Scooby snacks to get him to do it, you know, he's told uh, you know, just think of John Wayne.

SPEAKER_01

Ron Wayne.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, John Wayne. Which so that Scooby walks off like he's in a western. Little weird for a castle environment, but we'll go with it.

SPEAKER_01

We'll go with it. Yeah, we'll go with it.

SPEAKER_02

So Scooby's off looking for the ghost, looks under a painting in which we see a chunk of wall gone with the phantom leaning there.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

And then when Scooby lifts the painting back up to double check what he saw, like it's a solid wall.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Which, uh guys, for the record, is completely different from eyes that watch you in paintings.

SPEAKER_01

It is different. You know?

SPEAKER_02

Yep. If you're wondering why that's important, an important distinction to make now, we will get there.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, we will definitely get there. Yep.

SPEAKER_02

But be prepared for that to be referenced every time they are in a castle.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, be prepared.

SPEAKER_02

Um, you know, Scooby squares off with the Phantom, kind of mocking him, getting him to chase them. They run around a bit.

SPEAKER_01

They do.

SPEAKER_02

Scooby runs him back to the trap, and Scooby, not paying attention, triggers the trap on himself.

SPEAKER_01

Yep, he trips over the wire.

SPEAKER_02

So Scooby's caught in the trap. Phantom's there kind of just watching. Kind of threatening, watching the rest of the game. When Scooby falls out of the trap, right on top of the Phantom.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

You know, they, you know, they tie up the Phantom, and at that point, the local law enforcement police have spotted the game's boat on the shore of Haunted Isle because the fog had lifted. And they find out that the ghost is the magician Bluestone the Great.

SPEAKER_00

Ooh, Bluestone the Great.

SPEAKER_02

An ex-magician that's wanted in six states.

SPEAKER_01

Ah, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Um then they, you know, they talk about how they discover all the floating tricks were just done by wires, but they don't know how the walking through walls was done, which turns out to be a special mirror, uh trick mirror, and a special projector. Yep. Um, that, you know, the he would be reflected in the mirror, and the projector would cast that image, and that when you would step away from the mirror, it would look like he walked through walls. And he was specifically on Vasquez Isle looking for Vasquez's treasure, which was supposedly buried there.

SPEAKER_01

Everybody knows that.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. Uh Scooby is digging in the ground and gets into a fight with a gopher. So that's another drink.

SPEAKER_01

Yep, that's another drink.

SPEAKER_02

Scooby's just picking fight with animals today.

SPEAKER_01

Noticing this big time. Oh man.

SPEAKER_02

Everybody laughs, and the episode ends. This is a very kind of cookie-cutter Scooby episode. Like, um It is. It you know, there's you know stuff that helps pad out, you know, to the 22-minute runtime, but the you know, main parts of it can actually be very quickly summarized as we've just discovered.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Um and here's the thing, you know, if the ghost would have just let them be, like, he would have gotten away with it.

SPEAKER_01

He would have gotten away with it.

SPEAKER_02

You know, because again, like, honestly, like Fred's points of like no phantoms are gonna scare him off, and why does he want them off now? Like, you know, if you would have just let him be, there would have been no problem.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, there would have been no problem. You could have continued doing whatever you were doing, and you know, they were left.

SPEAKER_02

They were led to the castle because of the note telling them to get off. Yeah. Um, so yeah, it was, you know, kind of the ghosts on own doing that caused his downfall. Um, so we have some responsibilities for this. So, what do you think we should start with?

SPEAKER_01

That's a good question. Um, it depends what you have in your fancy little notebook over there.

SPEAKER_02

Well, we could start with um our trap list. Alright, why don't we start with that? Okay, um, as of yet, we do not have a title fancy, dancy title for Fred's list of traps.

SPEAKER_01

Not yet, yes.

SPEAKER_02

Which might not necessarily all be Fred's traps. I I know in a lot of later series Fred is shown to be very trap obsessed.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, that is very trap.

SPEAKER_02

Um and as of so far, Fred has been the one making the traps.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But I'm not a hundred percent positive off the top of my head if that is a consistent trait of his. Um I know in the first live-action movie, one of the things that lead to the breakup of Mystery Inc. is Fred's always taking credit for Velma's plans. Which kind of implies Velma's the one setting up the traps in a sense. Yeah. Um but so far, just in these first three episodes, it's been Fred who's set what actual traps are there. Um you know, I'm not counting anything that came after that first live action movie. Right. Because that was after the live action movie. Right. Um so again, you know, if you guys have any name suggestions, we are open to them. Um so is the better mouse trap better or worse than Insta Sud's?

SPEAKER_01

Mmm, that's a tough one.

SPEAKER_02

I mean Personally, I think it's better because uh it's a lot more complex and just over the top ridiculous.

SPEAKER_01

It is ridiculous.

SPEAKER_02

Instant suds was just, you know, soap and a fire hose.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was just more of a basic trap. Still a good trap, but more of a basic one. So then you get the mouse trap, which is a little has a little bit more to it than instant suds.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. So so number one is better mouse trap, and number two is Insta suds.

SPEAKER_01

Alright.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so we've got the trap done.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Going on to the Manifest of Monsters.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yes, Manifest of Monsters.

SPEAKER_02

Is this one just ghost?

SPEAKER_01

I would assume so.

SPEAKER_02

Uh because yeah, he's not like a specific ghost. Like, he's not the ghost of the pirate Vasquez. He's just a ghost.

SPEAKER_00

He's just a ghost. Yeah, and doing nothing special.

SPEAKER_02

Um as of right now, the current manifest of monsters rankings are number one is Captain Cutler.

SPEAKER_01

Captain Cutler.

SPEAKER_02

And number two is the Black Knight ghost. So, Ghost.

SPEAKER_01

I would honestly place him at number three.

SPEAKER_02

I would have to agree. Like, like we said at the beginning, um you know, going at from the start of the episode, like he it looks like a very lacy design. It does. Like just a person wearing a bed sheet. Yep.

SPEAKER_01

With eyes cut out so you can see.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, then even when Scooby falls on him, like it literally looks like he's just a guy in a sheet. Which I think we do get later on in Scooby-Doo, where are you?

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That is a good good number of weeks away, yes. That is a while, yeah. We still got a little bit on that. Um, so yeah, I'm very comfortable placing him down at three.

SPEAKER_01

I think so. Yeah, that's we can both agree on that. We'll place him at number three.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and now that leaves us with the table of snacks.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, the table of snacks.

SPEAKER_02

So, how many Scooby snacks do you give this episode?

SPEAKER_01

I would probably give it two.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. See, I would give it a three.

SPEAKER_01

Give it a three. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Um, it's not a terrible episode. It's just a it's a very cookie-cutter by the book. I think if I think because this is the third episode, yeah. Um, that saves it from being lower.

SPEAKER_01

True.

SPEAKER_02

But they had this been like the episode like right after um Redbeard the Pirate.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like that would have just been a drag.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's true.

SPEAKER_02

You know, being like this being this early into the show's run.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, I can forgive it for being just straightforward and not necessarily boring.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

But like, you know, just straightforward, you know, all the way through. Whereas that had it been later, like, yeah, it would have felt like a kind of a drag.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

So nice solid three Scooby Snacks from me.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Three sounds good. All right.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. And speaking of three Scooby Snacks, we had another three Scooby Snacks in this episode.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Which brings our current total of Scooby Snacks eaten in Scooby-Doo Where Are You? to six. So yeah.

SPEAKER_01

We're getting up there, guys. What happens?

SPEAKER_02

We are now at an average of two per episode.

SPEAKER_01

That is true.

SPEAKER_02

Um little random fun fact for you all. Um back in the early 90s, Cartoon Network, when they were doing a 25-hour Scooby-Doo marathon. Intercut it with um what they claimed were behind-the-scenes looks of Scooby-Doo. We will eventually be covering that specific thing on the podcast. Um not a hundred percent sure when that will most likely be after we wrap up one of the Scooby-Doo series. I don't know specifically which one.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Um so um you can look forward to us covering that. But besides those specific shorts that were a part of it, um, during the marathon, random fun fact, ridiculous trivia bits would pop up in the episode.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

One of which had mentioned that apparently it's an average of six Scooby-Snacks per episode. Um so right now we're at an average of two.

SPEAKER_00

We're at an average of two. Yep.

SPEAKER_02

It's gonna be interesting to see how many are eaten throughout all of Scooby-Doo. Where are you?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, we'll have to see where that goes.

SPEAKER_02

Then we will see on we'll determine then on whether or not we want to continue this count for the rest of the show.

SPEAKER_01

We will see different series.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but anyways, I think that is everything that we needed to get done.

SPEAKER_01

I think so too.

SPEAKER_02

Um, so you know, next episode that is the Minor 49er.

SPEAKER_01

Mind your own business. One of my favorite episodes. Definitely is one of my favorites.

SPEAKER_02

When it's another, like, we didn't talk about this in the last episode.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

But um, you know, the Black Knight Ghost, Captain Cutler, uh, next episode's Minor 49er.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

You know, all of those were like big major ghosts shown in the second live-action Scooby-Doo movie.

SPEAKER_01

That is very true.

SPEAKER_02

Um we didn't necessarily just get ghost in that movie. I think he was on a banner. Outside the Cools the is it like Coulsonian.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, Coolsonian. Yeah, something like that. That museum.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, the museum that was doing like a big mystery ink exhibit. It had a couple of banners on the front of it. I think just generic ghosts was on it.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Um But um But no, like, yeah, these first like three of these first five episodes like had their ghosts as like major ghosts in that movie.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Um is very interesting on the and telling on like how good a lot of this designs are.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Um but that is we will be covering more on the minor 49er next week.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

You know, you know, personal warning for you all, you guys. Don't lose your head when being sawn in half.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely do not do it.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Preferably don't get sawn in half.

SPEAKER_01

No, but don't do that either. No.

SPEAKER_02

You know, just don't lose your head. Don't lose your head.

SPEAKER_01

Don't do it.

SPEAKER_02

You know. So until next time, remember, they would have gotten away with it too.

SPEAKER_01

If it weren't for those meddling kids.
