Why Separation of Church and State Makes the Church Stronger

In this first episode of A Better Allegiance, Robert Uribe explores why separation of church and state is not a threat to Christianity — but a protection.

Starting with the words of Jesus, “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God,” we examine the distinction Christ made between spiritual authority and political power. What did He mean when He said His Kingdom is not of this world? And what happens when the church forgets that distinction?

Looking at the early church, we reflect on how Christianity grew and thrived for centuries without political influence. Then we consider what shifted when faith became intertwined with empire under Constantine. Protection was a blessing — but history shows that when the church grows comfortable with power, something can slowly drift.

Is the church strongest when it holds influence, or when it remains distinct? Do we trust laws to transform behavior, or the Spirit of God to transform hearts?

This episode invites believers and skeptics alike to wrestle with a deeper question: where does our ultimate allegiance belong?

Be formed by Christ, not culture… and keep your allegiance where it belongs.
