And one of the most common questions I get, especially when people first hear the name of the business, is why SCVI? Where does that name come from? And what does it actually mean? In South Africa, a SVI refers to someone who does the small behind-the-scenes tasks, the work that most people either don't want to do or simply don't have the time to do. It's not glamorous work, it's humble, practical, and often invisible. And when I first started my business, that was exactly what I was doing. I was the person behind the scenes, taking care of the unglamorous tasks that allowed other people to move their business forward. But over time, something interesting happened. What began as simply getting tasks done evolved into something much deeper, a genuine partnership with clients built on trust, alignment, and shared purpose. In today's episode, I want to unpack the story behind the name SCV and how a word that once symbolized simple service has grown to represent collaboration, empowerment, and leadership. When I first started my business, that word resonated with me deeply. It represented humility, service, and a willingness to do what others avoided. Back then, I was literally the skivvy. The behind the screen, completely admin tasks that business owners didn't have time for. Data entry, emails, spreadsheets, scheduling, you name it, I did it. At first, it was purely functional, just getting things done. But I never imagined that humble beginning would become the foundation of something so much bigger. As the months went by and I worked with more clients, something became clear. They didn't just need help with their to-do list. They needed someone to understand their business. They needed someone who could anticipate their needs, see the bigger picture, and help them move forward strategically, not just administratively. That realization for me changed everything. We evolved from being taskdoers to becoming trusted partners. And honestly, that shift changed the way I saw everything. My clients, my work, and even myself as a business owner. It's easy to underestimate what we do as virtual assistants or service providers. On the surface, it looks like managing emails or updating spreadsheets. But what we really provide is peace of mind. We carry the details that allow business owners to breathe again. We create space for them to lead, dream, and build. Over time, my clients stopped saying, Can you do this for me? And started asking, What do you think we should do next? And that's when I knew the meaning of skivvy had shifted from simply serving to strengthening. Today, when I think of the word skivvy, I don't think of servitude, I think of partnership. I think of how my team shows up every day, not just to tick boxes, but to build trust. I think of our clients who share their dreams, their fears, and their next big goals with us, and how we get to walk alongside them to make those dreams possible. I think of the countless businesses we've helped grow, not by taking over, but by coming alongside, by listening, supporting, and leading from within. That's what we do at SCIVI. That's the new meaning of SCVI, and it's one I couldn't be prouder of.
