In this episode of The Aligned Entrepreneur with Jenni Petersen, after more than a decade of running a virtual assistant business, Jenni has worked with every type of client imaginable. From the last-minute launcher making changes hours before a launch, to the calm planner who always seems one step ahead, every client has taught her something valuable about leadership, support, and the realities of running a business.
In this episode, Jenni takes a light-hearted but deeply compassionate look at five common business owner personalities and reminds listeners that there is no "perfect" way to lead a business. Whether you're highly organised, constantly overwhelmed, a visionary who forgets passwords, or someone who simply struggles to ask for help, this conversation is an invitation to embrace who you are and build the support you need around you.
Because aligned businesses aren't built by perfect entrepreneurs. They're built by supported ones.

After running a virtual assistant business for more than 10 years, I can tell you one thing with absolute certainty. No two clients are the same. Some clients have everything beautifully organized, their launches are planned months in advance, their emails are scheduled, their webinars run like clockwork, and working with them feels calm and steady. Then you have the clients who are making changes to the landing page the night before their workshop goes live, while simultaneously trying to upload slides, write emails, and remember where they save their login details. And somewhere in between, you have the visionary who forgets how the email works, the client who takes three weeks to reply with a password, and the incredibly high-powered leader speaking to Fortune 500 companies who still need someone behind the scenes keeping everything moving. Over the years I've realized that the different kinds of clients we work with aren't just amusing stories. They actually reveal a lot about how businesses operate, how leaders think, and what support really looks like behind the scenes. So in today's episode, we're talking about the many faces of a client, what each type teaches us about running a business, and why, no matter which one you might recognize yourself in, there's space for you. Let's dive in. Hey there, I'm Janie Peterson and welcome to the Aligned Entrepreneur, a business podcast for purpose-led leaders. If you've ever felt stretched too thin, unsure if your business will make it, or just plain tired of holding it all together, you're in the right place. I know exactly how that feels. Over the last 10 years, I've built a virtual assistant business from just me sitting behind a laptop at my kitchen table to leading a global team serving clients around the world. But it hasn't been a smooth road. There were moments I wanted to quit when clients left, team members resigned, and the weight of leadership felt heavy. But every single time God showed up, sometimes through a new client, a new teammate, or just a quiet nudge that reminded me, keep going, you're not done yet. Here on the Aligned Entrepreneur, we'll talk about those moments, the real, messy middle of business ownership, and how to keep moving forward with faith, integrity, and purpose. I believe you can build a thriving, even six-figure business without compromising your values or losing sight of what truly matters. Together we'll unpack what it means to run a business that honors both excellence and faith and how to listen for God's still small voice along the way. So grab your coffee, get comfortable, and let's take the next purposeful step together. Okay, I need to say this up front. Not all clients are the same. And if you've ever worked with more than one business owner, you already know exactly what I'm talking about. Some clients are calm, some are chaotic, some are wildly successful but can't find their inbox. And some disappear for three weeks and then suddenly reappear asking why nothing has been done. Today's episode is a little cheeky, very honest, and deeply compassionate. Because after 10 years of running a VA business, I've learned this. There was no right way to be a business owner, and there was space for every personality type. So let's talk about the many faces of a client and why you're welcome here, no matter which one sounds like you. Client type number one, the frazzled last-minute launcher. You know this client. She's overwhelmed, her nervous system is fried, and somehow the day before her workshop goes live, she's still making changes to the landing page. Can we just tweak the headline? Oh, wait, let's change the button color. Actually, can we redo the whole thing? Now, here's what I want to be really clear about. This client isn't bad, she's not failing, she's not doing business wrong. She's usually carrying too much alone, deeply invested in what she's building, operating from pressure instead of support. And yes, last-minute chaos often leads to average results. But that doesn't mean she is the problem. It means she needs steadiness, structure, and someone to help regulate the process with her, and there is space for her. Client type number two, the calm, consistent operator. Then there's this client, the one who's calm, prepared, and steady. She plans ahead, she trusts the process, she knows what's happening and when. Her launches aren't dramatic and they work. She often gets hundreds of registrations, not because she's smarter or better, but because she's consistent and grounded. But here's the thing: she didn't wake up like this. She built this rhythm over time, often with the right support behind her. And there was space for her too. Client type number three, the three-week email responder. This is the client we're still waiting on. Logins, access, confirmations. Weeks go by, and then suddenly, hey, just checking in. Why hasn't anything moved forward? This client often feels embarrassed about their delays, overwhelmed by decisions, or unsure where to start, so they avoid. And again, not bad, not lazy, just human. Support can't move faster than readiness. But with patience, clarity, and the right expectations, this client can absolutely move forward. There is space for her too. Client type number four, the tech amnesiac visionary. This client forgets passwords, platforms, where things live. But she's brilliant. She's often the visionary, the thought leader, the one with big ideas and deep impact. Her strength isn't systems, it's people, ideas, and influence. She doesn't need judgment, she needs partnership, and there is absolutely space for her too. Client type number five, the high-powered executive. Then there's this client who speaks to the C-suite, Fortune 500 companies, boardrooms, big decisions. She's decisive, she's sharp, but even she needs support. Power doesn't remove the need for help, it makes it essential. And often these clients are the most respectful of boundaries and expertise because they understand the value of partnership. There is space for her too. Here's what I really want you to hear. There is no hierarchy of worth in how organized, calm, tech-savvy, or together you are. There is no preferred client personality. There is only alignment. At SCV and in aligned entrepreneurship in general, we don't expect you to show up polished, calm, or sorted. You're allowed to be super organized, completely disorganized, calm, frantic, confident, figuring it out as you go. Support isn't a reward for having it all together. It's something you're allowed to receive exactly as you are. Alignment doesn't mean perfection. It means honesty. It means knowing yourself well enough to say, This is where I struggle and I need help. And that's not weakness, that's wisdom. There is room in business and in support for every personality, every pace, every season. So whether you heard yourself in the calm planner, the last-minute launcher, the tech confused visionary, or the disappearing emailer, know this. There is space for you. You don't have to be organized to deserve support. You don't have to be less overwhelmed to ask for help. Aligned businesses aren't built by perfect people, they're built by supported ones. And wherever you are right now, you are welcome here. Thank you for tuning in to this episode of the Aligned Entrepreneur, a business podcast for purpose-led leaders.
