Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the Campy Tales podcast, where we talk about fun camp stories, play fun games, and we have special guests. Today, we have some really noisy guests and some very cute guests. We brought our daughters to work today. Look at this. Isn't it fun? And we brought one son. Sorry, Everett, but you get to be a part of it too, in some way, shape, or form.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So without further ado, we're gonna have our daughters introduce themselves, starting with this one right here. Who are you? Who are you?

SPEAKER_01

I'm Claire. My dad is Moose. My favorite camp activity is the pool.

SPEAKER_03

The pool, nice. Anne. How old are you?

SPEAKER_01

I'm six.

SPEAKER_03

She's six years old. Her dad is moose. And her favorite camp activity is the pool. Up next, we got this little girl over here.

SPEAKER_01

My name is Kaylee. I'm nine years old. My dad is goose. And my favorite camp activity is rips.

SPEAKER_03

Ooh. Have you done it?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Which ones?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Zip line, flying squirrel.

SPEAKER_03

You did the flying squirrel?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Did you pee your pants?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my goodness. Good for you.

SPEAKER_01

Good for you.

SPEAKER_03

I still haven't done it yet.

SPEAKER_00

What? I haven't done that.

SPEAKER_03

But I think I'm gonna pee my pants if I do. She did it during staff training. No. So she had all the buff guys from summer's day? Yeah. Who were just blurring it out?

SPEAKER_00

It's scary.

SPEAKER_03

Did you touch the tree? Did you get that high?

SPEAKER_01

I don't think so. Well-de-loop.

SPEAKER_03

I would have loved to see that.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_03

Alright.

SPEAKER_01

I did not do a loop-de-loop.

SPEAKER_03

Next, we have another daughter in the house. Dolly, go ahead, introduce yourself.

SPEAKER_01

Dolly, you got this.

unknown

I believe in you.

SPEAKER_01

She's had a dish.

SPEAKER_03

What's your name? Say, I'm Dolly. Very good. I like that. You're doing a good job. How old are you? She's melting. Oh no, she's melting. We're losing her. We're losing her. Okay. Dolly is 21 years old. She drives a Corvette. And what? You're not answering. I gotta make up the question. I gotta make up the answers. And her favorite color is black.

SPEAKER_00

Hey!

SPEAKER_03

You must be related or something. Your favorite color is black and you love broccoli. Is that right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And your favorite camp activity is probably just hanging out with moose, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. What's your favorite thing to do at camp, Dolly?

SPEAKER_01

Around in the um field.

SPEAKER_03

Ooh, good idea. That's a good one. Now we're talking. Yeah. I like to do that too sometimes. Dolly, you have come to Family Camp all three years, right? That we've hosted it. All three years. You've have you she's been you've been to summer camp.

SPEAKER_01

In the first time we've been here, mommy broke her ankle.

SPEAKER_04

That's right. That was a bummer, wasn't it? And now she's here, and then what happened? Yeah, what?

SPEAKER_01

And then she broke her arms. Not here, but not at camp.

SPEAKER_03

That thing happened at camp, okay? You guys hear that? Uh that's a bummer. Yeah. But I'm so glad you guys get to be here. This is so special for me. I am really excited. And I want to play a little game. You guys want to play a game with me? Sure. It's very simple. This is a fun campfire game. And it goes like this. It's called Fortunately, Unfortunately. And so we played this. We tested this around the campfire the other day when we were camping. And it's really simple. It goes like this. We might have to mute Claire's mic throughout. Do you want me to keep those in, or do you want me to cut cut those out? Yeah, we may we couldn't. You might just leave them in. It's fun to hear your own voice. That's why I talk so much. So game goes like this. I'm gonna start it, and I'm gonna say, I'm going to camp. And fortunately, I brought a sleeping bag. Then Claire will continue it, but she has to say, I'm going to camp. And unfortunately, my sleeping bag has a rip in it. And then Goose will go and he says, I'm going to camp. And fortunately, I brought an extra sleeping bag. And Kaylee will go and then Dolly will go. And it's always fortunately, unfortunately. Fortunately, unfortunately. You got that? I got it. You digging for gold? I got it. Oh, I love it. You guys ready? You ready? You understand? You understand? You understand? Do you understand? No. That's okay. We'll get it. Alright. I understand. I'm going to camp. And fortunately, I brought a pair of brand new running shoes.

SPEAKER_01

Unfortunately, I feed on them.

SPEAKER_02

Gros. Fortunately, I don't run.

SPEAKER_01

Wait, it's unfortunately. Unfortunately.

SPEAKER_03

You gotta be great. You gotta think outside the box.

SPEAKER_01

But I wanted to run.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, unfortunately, he wanted to run. She we wanted to run. Fortunately. Do you want help? How about this? Unfortunately, nobody wanted to run with you.

SPEAKER_01

I always have Everett and Juni who love running.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, there we go. That's perfect. Fortunately, what did you say?

SPEAKER_01

I always have Everett and Juniper to have to run with. Or I just run on my own.

SPEAKER_04

This is great. Unfortunately, Everett and Juniper slept in.

SPEAKER_03

Oh fortunately, there were hundreds of other kids at camp who wanted to go running.

SPEAKER_01

Unfortunately, the branch was closed and all the kids walked home.

SPEAKER_02

There's no more kids. What are you gonna do? I don't know. Fortunately, there was BBS back home. Oh, good.

SPEAKER_01

Unfortunately, I was sick.

SPEAKER_03

I'm so sorry. Fortunately. Um fortunately.

SPEAKER_01

Unfortunately, I fell over, but I was okay, and I just kept running faster and faster and faster.

SPEAKER_04

And and unfortunately, I just got too tired to run.

SPEAKER_03

Um you needed some coffee. And we'll go down there together. That was great, you guys. I'm so proud of you. Way to way to think on your feet. That was beautiful. And now it's time for our intro song. Are you ready, you guys? Kaylee, are you ready for this?

SPEAKER_02

You're leading it. You're leading it.

SPEAKER_03

Here we go. Three, two, two, one, do-do-do-do! Campy tail.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Campy tails. Alright, let me try. Let me try. I'll try to be fancy this time. You try to beatboxed. I'll try to beatbox. And uh you can do it. Yeah. Okay, Claire, you beatboxed. There we go. Okay, ready? Three, two, one, campy tails. Campy tails. Campy tails. That's pretty good, dude. How are we gonna beat that? How are we gonna beat that? Okay. You gotta be on the podcast every day. I think she actually likes it. Uh today we have a very special question for our very special guests. It is, what is it like being a camp kid?

SPEAKER_01

Um, it's very nice being a camp kid. I live at camp. It's wonderful.

SPEAKER_03

What's the best part about living at camp?

SPEAKER_01

It's being with my family.

SPEAKER_03

Awww. What do you do? What give walk me through a day in the life of Claire living at camp?

SPEAKER_01

Well, first I wake up in the cabin. Then we go to have breakfast.

SPEAKER_03

Where?

SPEAKER_01

The dining hall. Then we go to the chapel. And then we have one. Then more chapel. Then it's a break. Kids. Grown-up. They come with grown-ups. And I normally swim in the pool and buy drinks from the branch. Then we get ready for more chapel. Then lunch. I mean dinner.

SPEAKER_03

That's beautiful. That sounds like a blast.

SPEAKER_01

Then we have another day.

SPEAKER_03

And then another day. Another day. And then another.

SPEAKER_01

Ever. It only does it at summer.

SPEAKER_03

That oh yeah, that's right. And uh when it's not summertime, it looks a little bit differently. Kaylee, do you want to tell us what it's like being a camp kid?

SPEAKER_01

It's amazing.

SPEAKER_03

What's okay, that's great. I love that. What what's your walk me through the day in the life of Kaylee living at camp? Okay. Let's do like like a staff lunch day, maybe. Or maybe you're helping your mom in the branch or something.

SPEAKER_01

I don't do that anymore. Um did it. Um There's not really anything. Will we go to lunch?

SPEAKER_03

That sounds awesome. I love lunch. Yeah, lunch is great.

SPEAKER_02

And and then clear comes. What's your favorite part about living in camp? Favorite part. The best thing about it. Can't get this anywhere else.

SPEAKER_03

Um you have lived in the city before, so do you do you remember that?

SPEAKER_01

A little bit. Um, my favorite part of being a camp kid is getting to do all the stuff when other kids don't get to do it.

SPEAKER_02

Then rub it in their faces, like, oh, you don't get to do that? Yeah. What do you mean? What do you mean getting to do all the stuff?

SPEAKER_01

Like like all the camp um stuff, like swimming in the pool in summer.

SPEAKER_02

We let our kids we let our camper kids do that. Yeah, but just getting to do it all the time. Go in the pool, go do the flying squirrel, go to lunch.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Anything else? Did we miss anything?

SPEAKER_01

The field.

SPEAKER_02

Go into the field.

SPEAKER_03

Getting to be uh camp kitchen, getting to be a tester for the high ropes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Not a lot of kids get that.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_03

What's your favorite part about being a staff kid?

SPEAKER_01

Um well, hanging out with all the other staff kids.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that's pretty cool. I love it. Good job, Kaylee. That was very good. All right, Dolly. What was what is your favorite part about being a camp kid?

SPEAKER_01

Always being able to be with Daddy.

SPEAKER_03

That is so cool. Good job.

SPEAKER_01

And um sometime Daddy goes and plays the games.

SPEAKER_03

That's right, he does. And he always helps us with worship. So you get to see him up there dancing and singing and playing. That's a blast. I love it. And I my follow-up question for the daddies in the room is what's your favorite part about having kids as a camp staffer? You did your homework.

SPEAKER_02

Anyone? Anyone, yeah, open board. David's favorite part about having kids. Favorite part about having kids and working at camp. And working at camp. For my wife, it would be that I come home and I could reset the law a little bit in the middle of the day. Yeah. Yeah. Um, that's not my favorite part though. Is coming home and discipline? Yeah. I think my favorite part right now, the last couple years, probably I'll I'll go home for little things. Um, like I go take my vitamins at 10. Maybe I'll go have an espresso at 11. Maybe I'll take home breakfast. I'll take home lunch. Just drop it off. I'll show up at my house five times a day. And every time I go through the front door, it's like the first time that my littlest kids have seen me.

SPEAKER_00

Dad! The chewy!

SPEAKER_02

What are you doing? They're never wearing clothes and they always sprint to the door, and they'll do that five, six times. Kaylee, Kaylee wears clothes now. She doesn't do that. But but she'll still come to the door, give me a hug. Gabe will give me a hug. But yeah, the littlest ones. It's like uh it's like they haven't seen me. I just got back from the Artemis mission. He's been gone for years. Where have you been? That's probably my favorite part. Getting to see him multiple times and the same response every time. Do you have one, Michael? I have a lot.

SPEAKER_04

I don't I don't live on site, but um what? But yeah. News flash. But during the program programs, we we bring the family and we stay in one of the cabins and stuff. Um, and those are always fun just because it's almost like work and life just like mix. It's like you're living at camp. Um yeah, it's just fun.

SPEAKER_03

Wow. Well said. Yeah. Uh I think man, I so I've been thinking about this a lot actually. And the the privilege as a dad getting to have my kids here. And I was talking to a youth pastor the other day about this, and he he doesn't live at his ministry, but he's like, at every opportunity I can, I try to blend ministry and family together. And he says, a lot of times people get it where it's like I have to find a way to balance my ministry life and my and my uh family life. And he was like, But I think the best way to do that is to just blend them. So he said, Whenever there's an opportunity to include my family in something that I do, I do that. And he said, Whenever we have our leadership meetings, we do it at my house. Um, if there's a cleanup day at church, I'll bring my kids. And I'm like, Yeah, that's really cool. And then I started thinking, like, how can I blend my work life and my family life better? I'm like, well, my kids live here, and so they get to come to staff meetings for lunch, they get to, for our staff lunches, we do staff meetings, they get to see us there, they get to see us playing games with the kids, they get to be on podcasts with us. I'm like, what a special opportunity for them to see me inside and outside the home all the time, and trying to be the same person inside and outside the home as much as possible is just a special blessing. But then, but then thinking about like camp being kind of like this this Disneyland effect where you like Disneyland? Yeah, where you go into it and it just feels like this special place, you're away from trouble and outside of or like it's inside Anaheim, but you walk into this safe bubble, and so many people come up to camp and they feel that safety bubble at camp, and our kids just get to live in that safety bubble all the time. It's really cool. So there's a lot I could say about being a dad at camp. You like it, Claire? Yeah. Good. Oh, it's beautiful. And do you guys know what time it is? No. Do you know what time it is? No. It's time for the question of the day! The question of the day! Alright, Kaylee, you gotta give that board a big old spin, and hopefully it lands on a would you rather? Because that would make Hey, that was pretty good. And it's like pre-flood. What does it say? Describe the dispens dispensationalist view of no.

SPEAKER_04

Which animal from the Bible would you interview?

SPEAKER_03

So there's a lot of animals in the Bible.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Which one would you want to interview? Like, actually talk to this animal could speak English. Uh. You could understand it. Uh and it could tell you all about the events that it's witnessing. Go for it. Oh, first. You got it.

SPEAKER_04

I would interview the the big fish that swallowed Noah. Oh. Because I want to know what what was going on there. Why don't you do that? Did I say Noah? Yeah. The big fish that swallowed Noah's art. My brain is fried right now. Yeah, that swallowed Jonah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Like what was like what made it want to swallow Jonah? And why did it hold why did he hold him in a stomach for three days? You know? Yeah. Like was that just God t telling him to do that, or was it just normal doing what it its body was supposed to? He's just like some food. Just curiosity. That's interesting. What did it feel like? Yeah. What did it feel like? Did it taste good?

SPEAKER_01

Does a fish even have taste buds?

SPEAKER_03

They do. Ooh, that's a good question. Yeah. I think you should ask the fish. You should ask the fish. Yeah. You should ask Jonah's whale. Do you have one, Dolly? An animal from the Bible that you would want to interview?

SPEAKER_01

I like all the animals.

SPEAKER_03

Pick one. Which one? Anyone like it. We'll come back to you. Oh. Wow, you made me change my answer. That's what we're like. She's going for the Leviathan straight up.

unknown

I wanna ride one.

SPEAKER_03

You wanna ride one while you're interviewing it? That would be awesome.

SPEAKER_04

That would be so awesome. Like, did they did Adam and Eve like ride the raptors in the Garden of Eden? Oh, I'm sure, right?

SPEAKER_03

Just like an ostrich. Just hopping around the back, riding around on a dinosaur. That was a really good answer, Dolly. What do you got, Kaylee?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, good, good.

SPEAKER_01

Uh any I mean, all the animals are cool.

SPEAKER_03

That's true. They are. Do you have one, G?

unknown

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Dinosaur is the best.

SPEAKER_02

You can be like, were you real? Yeah, were you real?

SPEAKER_03

Did this really happen?

SPEAKER_02

Um yeah, I don't know, dude. I don't know. Do I because I'm gonna uh uh cherubim or something be like, does that count? Because they have like five heads or something.

SPEAKER_03

They're a creature. They're creatures.

SPEAKER_02

Don't they have like just a bunch of heads? Like a little lion. That's the one yeah, that's right.

SPEAKER_03

A lion, an ox.

SPEAKER_02

I would specifically do the the lion head one though. Yeah. And be like, tell me, tell me some dirt about the other heads.

SPEAKER_03

I I think I you just gossip spill the T D. Tell me what to do. I want to know one of the animals that got sacrificed before it got sacrificed. Like, hey, what are you feeling right now? Do you know what's about to happen?

SPEAKER_01

And then it's just like that was too loud.

SPEAKER_02

When it speaks English, this yeah, they speak English.

SPEAKER_03

It's just a goat just screaming like a goat. Yeah, just be like I was thinking though, probably one of the animals in Garden of Eden. Like any of them. Just the serpent, maybe. Like, why did you do that, man? I don't know. And they could talk, right? They can all talk. That one could just fully talk. Yeah, he could fully talk. That might be kind of scary, actually.

SPEAKER_02

And didn't it say like he got banished to his belly after that, too?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so he must have had some sort of feet. Like he was probably walking around. Yeah, he was crawling. Or what yeah, just standing. Did he have a loincloth? Ooh. Something to cover. And did all the animals were they all able to talk? Or just the serpent? Now we're getting deep. What are you thinking? Like questions for the serpent. That's on. Hey, are you the only one that can talk right now? You're gonna hurt yourself, Dolly. Oh well, ladies and gentlemen, this was very fun. I want to open up the floor and give you guys an opportunity to. Oh, yeah, what's your animal? Do you have one?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. A giraffe.

SPEAKER_03

Ooh, which one? Like one of the giraffes on the ark?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

What would you ask it?

SPEAKER_01

I would ask him, where are we going?

SPEAKER_03

Just like, where where are you going right now? Your guess is as good as mine. I don't know what's going on. Oh, well, that was a good answer. I'm very proud of you. Beautiful. Alright, you guys want to try again? We're gonna try to close off the podcast with our camp song again. You ready? You wanna try it again? Do you want to try to sing it this time, Kaylee?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_03

Alright, ready? Yeah. Are you? Uh sure. Three. Wait, are you are you singing it? I'll sing it again. Or do you want to sing it? No. Okay. How about we all sing it? How about we all sing it at the same time? Ready? Sing it differently. Three, two, one. Campy tails. Campy tails. We're on Campytails. We're gonna talk about Campy Tails.

SPEAKER_02

Woo!

SPEAKER_03

Pretty, that was good. That was actually way better than the first one. Alright, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for watching today's special podcast.
