1.     What is TimeLine?

A Timeline is a visual, linear experience of how someone codes and stores time. In NLP timeline is a term used to describe how we internally represent time. We internally represent the past, present, and future differently. The concept was originally laid out in the TimeLine Therapy and the Basis of Personality by Tad James and Wyatt Woodsmall. It was a project given to them by Richard Bandler. Timeline can be used to create goal representations as well as heal past traumas.

2.     How can TL be used to establish goals and make them more real and likely to be achieved?

Since the timeline is a visual linear representation of time, putting pictures of goals on the TL can create spatial representations of what and when something might happen.

 3.     Before using TL for goals establish clear goals and outcomes.

Remember that goal setting and reaching is a process. It is more complex than just creating an image inside your head and saying this is what I want.

The first step is to verbalize your goal in active language (versus passive language). E.g. Make $100,000 in revenue by Dec. 31, 2025. As compared to I want to be able to make …. Or I want to be better at sales. (This is not specific and uses a comparative deletion “better” which makes it difficult for the brain to figure out exactly what you mean.)

Make the statement crisp and clean

Establish what you want using the NLP outcome frame. This helps define details, set a direction, specify contexts, handle ecology, and create a sensory-based representation using all three primary senses. Answer all of the questions in the outcome frame.

Now you are ready to create a timeline representation of the goal.

 4.     What is the specific process?

Remember that goals usually have action steps. Divide the goal into 3 action steps with time frames.  Now you are ready to place on the timeline. This process works best if you walk the timeline and use spatial anchors.

Future pacing:

What is the overall time frame for accomplishing this outcome or goal?

Select a concrete goal or project to be accomplished in 12 months; create 3-time chunks between the present and the achievement. Now use the time line to place pictures in sequence. Notice the difference in your feeling of achieving the goal.

This is the brain podcast. This is the brain language podcast. This is the brain language podcast. This is the brain language podcast. This is the Brain Language Podcast. Welcome to the Brain Language Podcast, where we discuss NLP concepts to use in your business and your life. I'm Susan Stageman, and we have our wonderful co-host back, Justin Peters. Justin, how is the new year treating you?

SPEAKER_03

The new year's doing great, Susan. I um have been off to a good start. There's been a lot going on, and I am happy to get back in our cadence of podcast and talking about one of my favorite subjects in the world, NLP.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, good, good, good, good. Well, we're excited to start out the new year with a concept that Justin had asked me if we could discuss. And we may have done this already, but this is going to be a little bit different. He talks about timeline. And so I thought we'd do a little backstory on timeline and answer some questions. And then I thought there's a process that I've used for years in this course, application course called the Bullseye, which literally puts your goals on a timeline in a goal-reaching process. So I'm going to take Justin through the process so you can get an idea of what to do. So, any questions so far, Justin?

SPEAKER_03

No, I'm excited to dive into this and to get more clarity and specifications on some goals that I've had planned out for this year.

SPEAKER_01

Good. Excellent. All right. So I thought we'd talk about what is timeline, because if you just Google it generally, you'll see it used in a variety of ways. There isn't a whole lot of difference between, say, a business talking about a timeline where they're going to order a particular process in a number of steps and put those steps in order in a sequence so that they can achieve something that they want to achieve. Timeline in NLP is very similar, but we use timeline as a visual linear experience to understand how people code and store time. So it's actually a term in NLP that's come to describe the way we internally represent time. When I teach timeline in the practitioner level course, what I have people do is just close their eyes and tell me point to where their past is and point to where their future is. And what do you think happens, Justin? If you do that, what happens? Where do you where's your future? Where's your past?

SPEAKER_03

Well, whenever we've done this in the past and actually worked on it, my future is in one direction. My past is usually behind me. My future's ahead of me, my past was behind me. Yeah. Whenever I did the timeline work.

SPEAKER_01

Excellent, excellent.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's very typical, especially of people in the United States, that Americans, they generally have the future in front of them and the past behind them. However, that's not always true in all cultures. And it does have to do with the structure of our language, by the way. In Russia, their future is behind them because if they've done things the way they've done in the past, they'll stay alive. So if you think about how how different the Russian culture is from the US culture, then that starts to make a little bit of sense that they don't really have a future in front of them. Their future is behind them simply because what they've been doing has kept them alive. It's um very, very interesting. And if this is something that has great interest to you, you might want to do a little bit more research, timelines, and uh language structure. This concept was originally laid out in a book called years ago, called Timeline Therapy and the Basis of Personality by Tad James and Wyatt Woodsmall. It was actually a project that was given to them by Richard Bandler because these two just essentially did not get along. And so he he told them to go and produce this book. They had to learn how to work together. What I want to look at timeline today, though, is how to create goal representations as well as healing past traumas. I I know that Justin, you had asked about timeline. What was your interest in it?

SPEAKER_03

So I would say a little bit of both, Susan. I I remember whenever I went through your NLP course, we did a timeline to where we went back to a time where something significant had happened in my life, some type of trauma as a child where there was an impression and an imprint. And I was able to give my little me tools that I now have, which was super powerful. But then I remember something really, really cool that we did too was I was able to bring tools from that little kid into my adult life as well. And to be able to have both of those really made me understand that, like even though we're one, we're also a team. That that little child and me and this timeline can be used in such a powerful way. One, to bring tools back to when we needed it as a child, but then also to remember that like that child can also bring us more than we probably imagine too. And so I think both of those, Susan, I think being able to talk about timeline from a perspective of healing. I know a lot of people, especially younger, whenever these things happen and we didn't know how to control them, we didn't have these outlets or these resources to heal or to know how to release energy. And when it really stuck with us, how can we go back and use timeline to help with that? And then the second piece, I would love to learn more about timeline with setting goals and getting really clear on that, the specifications to ensure that if we have something on our mind that we're wanting to accomplish in the next year, especially being at the first of the year right now, uh we know how to go out there and tackle it in the most efficient way.

SPEAKER_01

Excellent. Excellent. Okay, so let's go ahead because I I want to spend the time today looking at how to establish goals and make them more real and more likely that they're going to be achieved. And I think earlier we did James and I did something on timeline, and we will certainly visit this again because there's timeline is woven through the fabric of NLP just so completely. It's a it's a wonderful tool to help not only goal setting but healing and a lot of other things. So we will certainly look at that. Remember that timeline is that visual linear representation of time. And when you can create pictures of goals that you're achieving or that you want to achieve, you can create spatial representations of what and when something might happen. You know, you've never been able to predict the future without a crystal ball. But in some regards, if you go ahead and create pictures and put them on the timeline, you have a higher probability of making that happen. Just make sure that there's ecology in place that allows for everything to happen the way it's supposed to happen and not have any surprises come up along the way. All right. So remember, goal reaching is a process, right? Goal setting and reaching is a process. And it's more complex than just creating an image inside your head and saying what you want. I mean, we can all do that, can't we? I mean, have you ever gotten a goal and when you did, it wasn't the right size or right color?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

So what happens is that through the outcome process, we're creating a blueprint of what we want. And there's some things that have to be met in that outcome in order for things to be achievable. One of those things is the language of the outcome. I know we don't talk about that a whole lot, but I'm going to start talking because it's so, so important. And that's using active language. So there's a difference between saying this year I'm launching a new class, you know, by this date, and the class teaches this, as opposed to I want to be able to develop a class and have it start on this particular day, which is passive language. So one of the keys to languaging a goal is to make sure that it's active language. So goal, make$100,000 in revenue by December 31st, 2025. And a goal, by the way, is very measurable and time-driven, as compared to saying, well, I want to be able to make$100,000 in revenue or I want to be better at sales. This this word better is a comparative deletion, and it's not specific enough for the brain to figure out exactly what you mean. You may think that's true, but remember that the outcome is twofold. Not only make sure that you get clear about what you want, but if you're going to talk to somebody about the goal, then your communication is crisp and clean, and they understand what you want. All right. So that's that's the first step, verbalizing in active language. So let's go ahead and do that. You had mentioned about launching a course. Let's let's talk about that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

So I have a course, a a men's course called Awakening the Inner King.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, wow.

SPEAKER_03

That I want to launch no later than March 31st, 2025. And within the first six months of launch, I want to be making at least fifty thousand dollars per month from my launch.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. So let's let's kind of break that down a little bit and go to the first step. All right. So it's launching the class, awakening the inner king by March 31st, 2025. Is that correct?

SPEAKER_03

That's correct.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Clearly understood. Now, then part of that goal, that's the achievement of part of it. And then the other part is by what time making that? So tell me a little bit about the 50,000.

SPEAKER_03

Well, so the 50,000 is just a byproduct of the amount of people that I want to have in there. So I'll be charging, it'll be$3,000 per person. And so if we break that down, that's gonna be about just 16, 17 people inside the course. So within the first month of launching it, I want to be able to have 17 people signed up in the community and starting the modules and then joining the weekly QA's that we're gonna have each week.

SPEAKER_01

Excellent. All right. So at the launch, you're gonna have 17 people, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yes, yes. That's my goal is to have 17 people upon launch. Like once I launch the course, because I'm gonna be doing some marketing before that. I want to have within the first 30 days 17 people minimum signed up for my course.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, all right. So let me just say something about this. This is excellent, by the way. Let me just say something about minimums and ranges. Your brain doesn't do minimum and ranges. So if you say 17 people, Justin, it's gonna be 17 people. Okay, it wouldn't be any different than if you said, well, I want between 17 and 25 people. Once you get to 17, your brain goes, okay, we have it.

SPEAKER_03

So interesting.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, ranges don't work in goal setting. Okay, it might work in temperatures. You know, we're gonna have a range of temperatures today, but it doesn't necessarily work in in goal setting and outcome specification because your brain is I wouldn't say it's lazy, but it once it gets to that number, because your brain likes numbers, it understands numbers, right? 17 people, then seven. That makes sense.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So let me ask you this, Susan. As you bring that up, a question that that came about was let's go in like the sales industry, right? And let's say that there's someone who he's got this number in his mind,$10,000 a month. I'm okay, I'm fine, that's what I want to make. But this guy is capable of making$30,000 or$40,000 a month. Since he has that$10,000 a month in his mind ingrained in there, it's kind of like the lid on the jar, so to speak, right? Will that person, even though he's capable of making an extra$20 or$30,000, will he usually just settle and do enough to make the$10K? As long as he's capable of making so much more.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, as long as that I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you there. As long as that mental image of$10,000 is is his mind, he probably won't be motivated to do more than that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Unless remember, we talked about comfort zones, what a comfort zone is. And a comfort zone is that area that we work in that we feel really comfortable, obviously. And if we perform below that, say for instance, that you know, one he goes through a period of time where he just does seven, well, that's not me. You see, comfort zone is me, and that's how I define myself. So if a person is doing does seven, but their mental picture is 10, they'll automatically adjust up. But say, for instance, that$30,000, which they're perfectly capable of, they do 30, but they automatically adjust down because remember, that comfort zone is me. That's how I define myself. And in order to bump that up, that's what NLP is so great at, changing the beliefs about what I'm capable of. You know, there's beliefs about identity and there's beliefs about capability, which we've talked about in previous podcasts, that those fundamentally have to shift in order for a person to be comfortable at a higher level. So it's a concept that I think bears paying attention to because you know you'll find if you go for something and you fall short of it, doesn't necessarily mean that you failed. It just means that something in your strategy, something in a belief system doesn't quite fit the goal. And so you start looking at, well, what is that? And how can I get beyond it? One of the reasons in the bullseye course, I have people take a goal and do an alignment, a neurological levels alignment, a DILS process, which gives you the environment, the behaviors you're doing, the capabilities you're using, and the beliefs you need or have in order to accomplish what it is that you accomplish. And then, of course, who are you and what's your vision? All of that becomes part of a package, if you will, that will help you carry forward what it is that you say you want. And then if beliefs come up that don't support what it is that you say you want, then you can go about changing those. So very, very good question. All right. So now once we have our statement in mind, then our second step is to do the outcome frame. And we that defines details, sets a direction, specifies context, handles ecology, and creates a sensory-based representation using all three senses, primary senses. And you want to be able to answer all of the questions in the outcome frame. And once you've done that, now you're ready to do a timeline representation. So I'm not going to take you through an outcome. Let's just go through this briefly, though. Any context that is included in this or excluded from achieving this launch and the corresponding money that you're going to make from it?

SPEAKER_03

Any context. So the who, what, where, when.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I see. Yeah. So would this apply in most contexts of your business? Is there any situation in which you would not want this?

SPEAKER_03

Uh no, the only situation would be I would fear aiming too low. So when you brought that up, like if I have 17 in my mind, I fear that I could naturally be magnetized at that 17 number whenever there could be a lot more people that could uh be getting a lot of value from the course because of me being stuck on a smaller number.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. So you have to start somewhere, right? And well, how did you arrive at 17?

SPEAKER_03

So 17, I just did for$50,000 a month. Okay. Broken that down by$3,000 of the course price, and that gave me right around 16.6. So I just rounded up to 17.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, very good. So that sounds reasonable to me.

SPEAKER_03

I agree. I I agree. Me too. It feels right.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, then go with that.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So here's the other thing, Justin, to be aware of, and I want to point this out to our audience is that you use math to figure this out. You know, sometimes people just pull, you know, it's a oh, I want to make$25 million this next year. Okay, that's just a number inside their head. They have no idea what that really means, what has to happen in order for that to happen, and the kind of work that they may have to put out or the kind of restructuring of their business. There's all kinds of things that are involved in numbers that you got to break down the numbers.

SPEAKER_02

Right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The one time I had somebody who was in her infancy and doing coaching, and she comes to me and she's she says, Well, I want to make$150,000 a year in her coaching business. And I said, Okay, so let's let's find out what that means. So I said, How much are you making now? And I think it was, I don't know, 30. All right. So that's a pretty big stretch for most people. I'm not going to say it can't happen, but if a person's doing$30,000 worth of work, something significant is going to have to change to do$150. I'm not sure what that is because I wasn't familiar enough with what she was doing at the time. So I said, okay, so how many people do you work with a week? And uh she said, I don't know, five people, 10 people, I don't remember. How much are you charging? And I just ran the numbers and I said, okay, so that's making you$30,000 a month. If you want to make$150, here's what you're gonna have to do. And I just, you know, at that price that you're charging them, you're gonna have to work with 30 people a week.

SPEAKER_03

And she's five exit.

SPEAKER_01

That's right. And she looked at me and she goes, I don't really want to work that hard, which was being completely honest. Yeah, I respect it, fine. This is this isn't about you know, shooting for the moon in one felled swoop. You know, she had two boys in high school. There was a lot going on in her life at the time that she wanted her time was pulled away from you know her business. And then I'll bet you today, and this has been a long time, probably 15 years, she probably is making that today. Yeah, however, you know, back then the leap that she was going to have to make. Now, there's some things that you can do. Business is by the numbers, you've got to do numbers. It's just not gosh, I wish you know I could make this. It's this isn't how business works.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you brought up a good point here, too, Susan. As I think about this, it's like I also want to make sure, let's say, you know, oh, making X amount per month sounds great, but then at what cost, right? What's the cost benefit analysis of that with my life and my time and my hobbies and me having fun and me not having stress and taking care of my nervous system? So all those things also. factor into this as well for sure. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, exactly. I mean, I wouldn't second guess what you think feels right to you. I mean, just I happen to know you're highly intuitive. Just go with what feels right. That's right. Always adjust it. And yeah, you can always adjust that. So that's the second step. We've we've got that. We've got the context. Oh one other is is this representative of you of um who and what you want to be it is totally.

SPEAKER_03

It's me being able to help men and then eventually women with other courses I'll have as well and it it's right aligned with my highest purpose.

SPEAKER_01

Excellent. All right. So and when you have this what are you going to see and hear and how is it going to feel so this is your primary sense representation from the outcome frame.

SPEAKER_03

I'm going to see a a group full of people who are excited about coming and changing their lives and becoming the best they can possibly be. I'm going to hear praise with how amazing the course is I'm going to hear how people are so excited and just getting so much growth and progress from it. And I'm going to feel very rewarded. I'm going to feel very much aligned on track with my purpose with who I am and I'll feel very proud and excited about taking this to even a a next level like with retreats and with other avenues and other ticket items of working with you know more uh intimate VIP sessions. And so sure yeah those would be the three taste and smell uh I see my smell being much more vital like I can I can smell things much easier. The alignment brings much better taste and better smell into my life as well if that makes sense.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Yeah those are they're not necessarily secondary processes but you want to make sure secondary senses but you want to make sure you have the three primary so there's a exactly yeah questions I want to ask you.

SPEAKER_03

You said you see people being excited all right what do you see that lets you know that they're excited so I see it a lot of it has to do with on their face and their their uh excitement on their face and their curiosity of wanting to learn and their fascination with these new tools these new methods of learning that stuff they didn't realize that they know that they can bring back to their work to their families to their kids to their communities to implement and become the man that they know they're they're destined and meant to be excellent.

SPEAKER_01

Okay that's that's excellent. All right now uh now we can create a timeline representation of the goal so this specific process is that remember that goals have action steps and I've talked about this when we talk about goals there's a difference between tasks and goals tasks are those things that when you finish you feel relieved they're they're action steps they're not really goals and they're stepping stones. Yeah they're like stepping stones and sometimes people set goals as that that are really tasks like one of my goals this week is to clean up the yard that's not a goal that's a task the goal may be to have a beautifully presented yard that yes I see I see so chunking up from that yes so the overall goal is to have a beautiful yard one of the tasks or action steps is to clean it up and then there's that makes sense information that you can put in there to to make it more real. And once you we have the three action steps and with the time frames then we can use timeline and use spatial anchors. Okay so what's the overall time frame you've established for having already accomplished this goal so the overall time frame I would say well I'd like to to keep this consistent okay with the way the marketing is going to be working and the process I would like to have it consistent 17 people joining per month uh ongoing okay and so the timeline of that would be for six months straight okay so all right so I like this it's I I like this I like how you think Justin you're already three quarters of the way there because goals don't usually exist in a vacuum if this is an ongoing process I mean it doesn't sound to me like you want to launch this class and by March 31st you have 17 people and then what what are you going to do? You know for the space program, go back to school you know is this is this going to be an ongoing process well then you have to take that into consideration when you're establishing this in some respects a future pace that it is going to be an ongoing process. And so there's not necessarily a finish line there is for this but that it's going to continue on into the future and a lot of times people because that is this is a through time process talked about this before through time versus in time if you have a start time chunk one time chunk two time chunk three and then a finish what goes after the finish you've got this in in time and if this is an ongoing process you want to make sure that it's going to go beyond March 31st this is just your initial launch as you that's right that's right and then from there hiring team members delegation to where I can see you know keeping my way of life primary and building around that.

SPEAKER_03

And so like if I feel like I'm sacrificing my happiness or I'm not you know I'm stressed out and I'm not giving myself time well then I know I need to find some type of filler in that to bring someone on to make sure that my lifestyle is still staying consistent with how I want to live.

SPEAKER_01

All right very good now so here's what we're gonna do we're gonna set this up if you can visualize this we have a start we're there where we're starting right and then you have your finish for this particular section is going to be March 1st is that correct yes yeah March 1st would be me fully having the course launched ready to go and then from there each month bringing on 17 people to join the course and then building out the team and everything as I go and depending on the the capacity. Okay so we're just gonna do this for the sake of the diagram we're gonna say March 1st is that correct yes yes march first okay so that's gonna be the finish for this particular section so what I want you to do is you want this goal for March 1st and you have between now and March 1st you have three time chunks in between these time chunks do not necessarily have to be even you know in other words evenly spaced you may have a time chunk that happens next week and then a time chunk that happens in six weeks and then another time chunk that happens just right before you launch the program. Correct all right so let's picture yourself and I'm do saying this very specific see yourself in the picture achieving your goal. So I want you to just spend half a minute or so getting a good idea of what that looks like on the launch day to see what you see around you when you're achieving it hear what you'll hear feel the feelings as you step into it as you experience that you know that you know that you know that it's gonna happen that it is happening okay good now I want you to create a code word for this goal what's a code word just one word that represents that particular map we'll call it king because it's it's awakening inner king king will be able to I love it anchor me do it okay good now I want you to just look at the action steps of the goal what are the three action steps what's what are you gonna do first what's follows next and then uh what follows next before you've actually launch the program so what's and all you do yeah all you have to do is create a code word for each of those action steps so the first one's gonna be to nail down all the modules and the sub videos and all of the talking points for the entire course okay so what could you call that oh I can call that progress okay progress okay or you know what let's let's change that Susan let's call that foundation foundation okay I like that okay so that's gonna be your first time chunk and when yes when will that be completed?

SPEAKER_03

That will be completed no later than February 10th okay so so it's gotta be completed on or before February 10th right yes okay good all right now what's your second time chunk my second time chunk is going to be recording the oh you know what my second time chunk is going to be finishing the mastermind that I'm in and I'll be able to finish that no later than February 20th.

SPEAKER_01

Okay February 20th okay good and then your third time chunk which will be do I need to give the second one a name Susan oh yeah I'm sorry yes we'll call that mastermind mass okay so mass and then my third one will be recording the videos and getting all the marketing in place to start the launch.

SPEAKER_03

Okay so record video and when are you gonna finish that I'm glad we're doing this because now that I'm seeing the time frame I may have to move my date up a little bit Susan based on the amount of time I have to film and stuff. I mean I I'm I'm seeing this and I'm like well if I'm gonna be filming X amount of videos I that would be it'd be a quick turnaround I may have to give myself a little cushion on this with my my my starting date in March instead of March 1st March 15th isn't this wow and isn't this so important to understand that you may not have given yourself enough time. Okay good good good and then you know if I didn't have done this Susan I would have okay March 1st and then without planning it getting there and then feeling like I I let myself down or I failed and no one wants that energy when it comes to doing anything in life right so I I'm really glad I did this to make it much more realistic and attainable.

SPEAKER_01

Good good good good okay so what is our new finish date?

SPEAKER_03

So our new finish date I want to do you know what I want to do the end of March. I want that to be let's just go March let's do April 1st is when it's gonna be April 1st all right yeah so that may be more realistic. All right very good now I want to ask you all right your third time frame when's that going to be finished that's gonna be finished by February 28th okay into February and then that'll give me a full month to prepare marketing finish all the videos that's perfect that that makes me feel much much lighter in my body as I think about this.

SPEAKER_01

Okay good good good good pay attention to you know pay attention to what's going on in your body a lot of people just ignore that or aren't even aware of it and what happens is then they wonder why they you know shoot themselves in the foot and they don't make their time frames. Okay I want to ask you one thing about marketing and this is only because I've been in the human potential business for 35 years. Do you think and I'm just asking you this I don't know what your situation is that going to be enough time to market something at that level that amount I mean if you were marketing a 495 class right that would be one thing but you're marketing a class is going to um the tuition is$3,000 so do you think people need more time in order to make a decision like that and to get it on their calendar I'm just asking I don't it's a good question.

SPEAKER_03

I do feel based on just my experience with my real estate company and just sales in general there needs to be you know five to ten touches and 10 yeah visits to something to really get curious to dive more into it to see it to let it really come into their world and then let them too feel it in their own body and if it feels right then starting to dive more into it. So as you say that I do feel giving myself more time on that front the marketing piece is critical. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. So here is a suggestion is to start the marketing a lot earlier and I agree then finish then finish your program. It's all right not to have the program finished by the time you start as long as you have the concepts and the marketing basically delineates what the program is about giving people I know from my own experience that for a lot of what I do it's a 90 day business which means that if I put something out there it takes 90 days for it to seep in to people yeah and there'll be people that make decisions right away but in order to get the amount of people that I say I want I need to have that three month time frame in order for people to get it on their calendar or decide what it is that they're going to do or talk to me, ask questions that's personal to my business. I don't know this is a little bit different than a real estate business because you're moving into the human potential business and just as a little coaching you may want to give yourself a little bit more time and a little bit more interaction with people so I agree they um you can build excitement for what it is that people are going to be getting I I totally agree with that. That feels really right Susan okay so let's go ahead where could we put the marketing so that you could you're gonna do this right yeah I yeah I would say that was not quite congruent.

SPEAKER_03

Okay you're gonna do it right yeah no okay you're gonna do it right you know maybe it's even like I would say starting the marketing right after I get done with that first piece which is February 10th okay start marketing at that point okay so you want to do the foundation February 10th when do you want to start the marketing? Like right after that so February 11th.

SPEAKER_01

Okay I'm gonna put marketing in here and February 11th and you guys out there thought that this was going to be easy right it is easy once you get everything aligned and it makes sense and it's ecological I mean if you do this yeah you could probably do it just and I I know that you're capable of it but what are you what are you going to give up in order to do that the way you had it set up before would been quite a push and I'm just wondering if if you need to have more time to do it justice and to get to get your numbers that you want.

SPEAKER_03

So yeah totally and I'm in a season right now Susan where I'm not trying to overstress my nervous system and not rush into things good advice of a a better life and so I I'm all for making sure I get uh the specifics nailed down so I can still have what I need with my relationships and my life and with fun and balance while still working towards this goal. That's very important to me.

SPEAKER_01

Okay good all right so now we have the foundation piece you're gonna work on between now and February 10th right so you're gonna finish that and then the marketing piece right after that the 11th and the mastermind is that still February 20th you still want that in there uh completing the mastermind yeah no i i said that beginning of march let's let's make completing it by the by march first march first okay and then your next piece recording the videos where do you want that or is that you're gonna be your natural next that's gonna be starting beginning of March so like March 1st through uh the end of March like March 31st and then that'll give me a month and a half of like really solid marketing okay getting on my stories doing other marketing avenues with with uh paid marketing on Instagram and then okay ready to roll it out by April 1st okay great all right so now we've got our foundation what's your second piece marketing do you want that as what's your code word there let's call it ninja okay I think about a ninja marketer that's what okay and then you have another piece you have two more pieces I mean we certainly could put four steps in there but just for the sake of maybe making it a little bit less complex let's go ahead where these last two the ending the mastermind finishing the mastermind and the recording uh record the videos how could you combine those in one step or could you yeah yeah recording the videos and finishing the mastermind is that what you're asking yeah so and if you wanted to put that in I could totally do those those will be I'll be chunking those so those can definitely be in one step. Okay and what are you gonna call that step uh let's call it stack okay stack okay and what's the time do you want to do that have that on the first because then you'll have time between the first and the 31st when there's the launch yeah yeah starting on the first yes ma'am okay all right so here's what we're gonna do we have three code words foundation ninja and stack all right now if we were actually if I was actually taking through this you would take those three action step code words and write them on a card all right and so once they're on the card you're gonna stand stand at the beginning of the timeline and grab a hold of that picture of you achieving that goal seeing yourself in the picture and the code word you got that yes okay and you're gonna step onto the timeline and walk out to the future place and place the card at the place on the timeline you see yourself at the point of achievement so that's gonna be April 1st do I have that correct for foundation no this is oh the full achievement yes this is the full achievement we're all we're gonna walk all the way out into the time here okay all right so imagine that you're walking out into the future place all the way to April first examine that picture carefully seeing yourself achieve it hearing the words step into it and then leave the picture and the card at that April 1st slot now I want you to step back into place number three action step which is stack see yourself doing that hear the words feel the feelings and at the place of March first you're going to put that picture and the card at March first okay good now you're gonna step back into place number two and that is going to be I think March 11th it's ninja is that March 11th yes okay it's all right so step back with the picture of you doing ninja with the code word ninja and place that on the timeline on February 11th okay good now we're gonna go back to step one which is not the beginning step one is February 10th and that's foundation okay and make sure that you put that on February 10th and make sure all three steps are in place and look and feel good and are ecological okay okay good now you can even go come back to the present for which is the star today and look forward to make sure that those three steps are in place and look and feel good and are ecological. And what do you mean by ecological Susan it just means that that you're not paying too high of a price that it ecology means a balance in the system and you've talked about that it's very important to you that that while you're doing this and maintaining this particular process through time that you're also taking care of yourself that you're having fun that your life is balanced.

SPEAKER_03

Okay that makes sense yeah yes it feels very ecological okay good now I want you to go back out to the future goal card the point of achievement and I want you to look back to the present and ask yourself if this goal feels right and it is good for you and your significant others and fits into your life as a whole okay now just notice how the goal achievement produces changes in your timeline as you look back okay good now go ahead and walk back go ahead and return to the present and look forward see all the changes happening along the way as it fits into your timeline notice all the events on your timeline rearranging themselves to take into account this new goal and you can even you can even see beyond the new goal to see this process repeating itself you know as far as marketing putting uh additional people into each program each month you can even go into third position off the timeline and look at how it continues on into the future this is powerful okay and then go ahead and open your eyes what seems different oh just a lot more clarity is is the word that's really coming in is is clarity much more certainty good evidence and I really love how we named each one of the phases of accomplishing this goal it makes it much more realistic and then being able to anchor into the feelings behind that what I'm going to be able to bring into it what that consists of uh it just yeah it brings a lot of clarity a lot of times whenever I don't have a structure like this my brain it's just you know it's it's think of being in outer space and you've just got stars everywhere right all around you and all those stars are the things I know I need to do and I'm kind of just like all right well let's I don't really know how to bring these together but now all the stars are aligned. Yeah good excellent yeah yeah it just brings a lot of a lot of clarity here.

SPEAKER_01

Good excellent okay so let's go ahead and kind of break this down a little bit because people say most people will go even if they do this process where they have the three action steps they're going to start in the present and look forward and place it that way I've learned over the years that if you go with the end in mind and then back up you're less likely to forget something a major piece that what you know that you didn't you forgot to put in and you're less likely to get caught in a move away from situation where you have a goal and the closer you get to it the less work you do because you're moving away from where you were see you can't I see you can't really do that if you go to the end in mind. And then sometimes I'll ask people well what happened right before that once they have that they are so close to achieving that goal it's almost like it cannot not happen.

SPEAKER_03

Interesting. I was curious about that and that makes a lot of sense as I went backwards and felt as if I had already completed the goal that was towards the end of this right goal it it it made it seem much more realistic versus seeing it way far off in the distance. Yeah that makes a lot of sense excellent excellent I was going to ask you that I was going to ask you what's the significance of doing that of going into the future first but the now it it really just clicked to me.

SPEAKER_01

Right. So when you're going backwards then or back towards the present I want to say you're going backwards but you're going back towards the present you're less likely to drop out significant pieces of the goal achievement and of course there may be other steps in here but these are the major steps and then these steps can be broken down into sub you know subtasks and that sort of thing that have to be achieved. However by going backwards you have a much better understanding of how it's going to play out what the timeline is you know how that's going to happen and uh how the bubble is going to be achieved. All right so any questions about that?

SPEAKER_03

No I'm uh I'm you know I'm really glad I did this I I've felt like you know and I've I've had it there but bringing this structure into place it's like man I need to be doing this with everything you know and learning this it's so powerful because you really can like if you you have something big like this it really comes down to how we can manage the steps that get us to the destination and exactly with this I just feel like the steps are so clear they're all relatable they're attainable they're timely and yeah I'm just I'm super thankful for for this and to be able to start using this on a lot more things you know to be honest.

SPEAKER_01

Good good good good well I I trust that people who are listening to this today will glean some valuable information and how to set up and be successful at achieving the things that they want to achieve. Now I do want to say as part of the recap that we spent quite a bit of time in the beginning getting what it was down that you said that you wanted to get you know getting the language clear about what it was that that you wanted and doing a quick a little quick outcome frame although if you're doing this for yourself or if you're doing it for someone else you want to make sure that that outcome frame is complete. When I teach the bullseye class I always have them do a complete outcome on the particular goal that they're that they're going for. And then then when they're doing it they have a complete map of where they're going and how they're going to get there. You know sometimes you know it's all well and good to shoot from the hip but business is a procedure all experience has structure so in order to be successful especially with a big launch like this but getting in the habit of you know backing up and how you're going to accomplish it instead of moving forward all the time can really give you a significant not only significant motivation but significant insight as to what you're actually doing and when you're going to do it and how you're gonna do it. So anyway let's go ahead and recap. In the beginning we talked about what's timeline and and a little bit of about how it came about in NLP using the concepts written by Tad James and why it was small. And of course it took on a life of its own timeline when you think about all the different processes in in NLP timeline is part of that as well as anchoring those two those two experiences are always involved in all of NLP experience. And then how we can use timeline to establish a visual linear representation of time which we just did we took Justin through with his permission and his graciousness to go through this for for you all so that you could get a real clear understanding of how it works. And so it's just not me talking about what to do we actually Justin actually went through it for us so that and gave us his results so that you can see how this all works. And then we spent time understanding that of course setting goals and is and research reaching goals is a process and it's more complex than just creating an image inside your head and saying that this is what I want. One of the key key elements of course is understanding the purpose of what you're going for. And Justin inadvertently I didn't ask him that specifically but inadvertently explained that in his when we were getting clear about what he wanted. And then it's just putting the goal on the timeline with three action steps and giving them code words visualize them and this works extremely well if you actually walk the timeline and not do it inside your head and get up create a physical timeline and then take the cards with the code word visualize it go out to the end step back step back step back and then look at everything to make sure that it's okay on that end go to the end look back right and make sure that it's okay on that end because there are things that you can see from the finish line that you don't always see you know hindsight is 2020 so you're putting in your own hindsight sight by doing that and looking back and going oh well maybe I should have done this. And the other thing that we did which I thought was important Justin was for you to be realistic about your time frames and uh make sure that that you maintain the ecology of what you're doing and in your you know your life and keeping it in balance while you're doing this big launch for your uh your new course which sounds very interesting. I know you've done a lot of work in this area on yourself. So it makes perfect sense that you would go ahead and develop something on your own. So very good.

SPEAKER_03

Well this is why I love NLP it's always just a a subtle reminder of why it's such a foundation for the modeling of what actually works and as human beings and how our brains work and how language plays a part and how we can constantly find these new tools that work for us implement them in our lives and have really beautiful profound results from it. So this was awesome for me Susan I always enjoyed this and uh thank you again for for having me on such a joy such a treat.

SPEAKER_01

Okay well great it was excellent you're you're a great student so anyway thank you before before we close I just want to mention a few things to people right now over the next few months I'm going to be running application courses so I developed a number of application courses in NLP you know using NLP to create or attract the ideal client or mate so to speak relationship or job you know all of these things that sometimes elude us and most of these are day courses and uh you can either take them in person if you're in the Dallas Fort Worth area or on Zoom of course as usual. And another one that I do is understanding beliefs and finding a belief uh this is just a day course doing a little belief work also a couple of two-day courses something called mind masters which takes NLP and weaves it into a meditation process and um that's a two-day course and there's another two-day course that I have scheduled called the Gold Mind and the Goldmind that's M-I-N-D is a course that helps you discover change limiting beliefs around money so if you look at the website nlptrainingconcepts.com you'll find a list of the courses and each month I will post a you know poster of the actual course description also I do want to mention this because it's extremely important that I'm going to be doing the brain language academy which is like a PhD in NLP most of NLP of course is you know you're learning practitioner information and then master's information and a lot of it you're applying to yourself and obviously people who are coaches apply it to other people but what do you do what if you want to teach something how do you organize material how do people learn how do you do an infinity loop what are some of the huge learning patterns that you have to recognize in people in order for your teaching to be effective one of the things that I've noticed that over the years and my trainers noticed also is that when people left my class they were doing what I was teaching them how to do and that's a very specific process of organizing and putting into place certain things that will guarantee a person will use them after they leave the classroom. So if that's of interest to you you must have a master's certification in NLP to take it it's a five month course one weekend a month and if you're interested just email me Susanette nlptrainingconcepts dot com and I'll be happy to fill you in on the details of that. I didn't run it last year so this will be the first time in a couple of years class size is small you'll get a lot of individual attention and practice regardless of whether you're in the classroom or on Zoom. So I thank you all for hanging in there with us and the podcast let me know if there's anything that you'd like Justin and I or Morgan and I to discuss. I'm happy to do it. This is the love of my life it's my mission and I appreciate every one of you have a wonderful wonderful new year.
